yes I made a quintet in iambic pentameter for this and yes it was worth it. break down below for anyone curious :)

To chase the light of the emerging dawn,

you can always be sure the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. in other words, the sun as a guiding star - for the people Rapunzel helped guide to a brighter path.

Be scorched as it was with Daedalus's son,

Daedalus's son being Icarus. we all know the story. the sun as a source of pain - for those Rapunzel failed to do right by.

Or bathed in gold, from which new life will spawn,

nothing would exist as it is without the sun. the sun as the bringer of life - for those Rapunzel saved in their most dire hour.

The sunkissed daughter's gilded hands spare none.

the impact Rapunzel has on the people she crosses paths with is undeniable. as for whether that impact is good or bad, well, who can say?

I like to imagine that while the majority of people in Varian’s life dislike Hugo, the only one that actually scares Hugo is Quirin, who thinks he’s great.

Also Adira is here too, but she’s just like that.

cassandra makes: herself queen, Rapunzel a lady in waiting, and Varian a prince. everone learns to see things from eachothers point of view.

depending on how much varian knows about cass, and depending on how people interpret her arc, he would either see himself in her or see andrew in her.

if he learns about her rotted hand and the extra entities in her head, he’d see himself— frightened, going mad, fighting back as much as possible, fighting for someone who’s as good as gone.

if he just knew about her and rapunzel’s conflict, he’d see andrew— someone with valid points, someone trying to make change, but going about things in the most wrong of ways.

and if he knew almost nothing about what went wrong— was never told anything about this aside from what he needed to know— he’d reach for her before being blocked by rapunzel. he’d spend the remainder of the following fight watching with a confused/scared expression. he’d hastily hide the incantation and make a bad call.

the third one is the only option the writers went with, because the other two would lead to them actually having to think about varian. and, especially in chris sonnenburg’s case, they wanted him to stay as a plot device in season three.

which is bad. obviously. not just in varian’s case, but also for cass! they gave her a lot of reasons to turn evil, but chris point-blank told them to forget about her recently disabled hand. he had so many routes to go to make cass sympathetic yet in need of redemption, but he muddled things so much that the fans still don’t know if the moonstone was actively corrupting her or not. if they’d even tried to look back on any of their past antagonists, they could have found some sort of blueprint to follow.

but no. catsuit and repetitive arguments it is.
