This is in my carrd but I'll say it rn too, I consume all my media very critically. I do not financially support immoral creators, I acknowledge the problematic aspects of everything I consume. While I do interact with media that has problematic elements/creators, I'll refuse to engage with it all together if it's fully founded and centered on harmful/hateful elements down to its core (H*rry P*tter, aot, etc). That's the best way to go about things imo. You'll know all of this already if you followed me during my rvb fixation lmao

Update: Blue Box Spanish-style 1:24 dollhouse

Since it has a base date of 1980, it was probably released in 1981 or 1982. While Blue Box was known for copying other manufacturers, they seem to have had an original idea here. Mom found this dollhouse at a yard sale, not quite complete, many years ago. She furnished it with Marx and Marx-adjacent furniture. I did some updating in 2024, but I didn't really have a vision. Since I try to refresh dollhouses at least annually, it was time!

I finally got around to replacing the missing porch light with a painted bit of wood that was hanging around. The plant on the porch presumably loves low light.

The balcony previously had yellow Marx lawn chairs, which looked downscale no matter what I did. It now has the rusted chairs from AC Moore, with a fancy paper floor from the final days of Joann. The little garden tables are Joann beads with old buttons glued to the top. So I guess the patio is kind of an homage to lost craft stores.

Everything is a titch more colorful now. This is the home of Ashley and Greg (she's a well-regarded voice actor, he's a cartoonist).

The foyer is unchanged. I tried hanging the 1960s-style Beatles album-cover magnet that Dad brought me from a vendor in New Orleans, but it was too big for the space. The piano is Blue Box -- I had one like this in the Modern Abode when I was a tot. The porcelain clock was cherished by Mom; I don't know why. It looks like there's a second door because there's a mirror on the "hidden" wall.

There are still lots more pics, so let's put a cut.

The big change here was to a more dramatic piece of art. That's a segment of a postcard showing J Street and the State Theater, original art by Anise Burns (I would link to her site, but I can't find one!). The table originally had a more realistic elephant as the centerpiece, but the owl seems more Ashley and Greg's style. I could have sworn I had tiny plastic toy soldiers somewhere, but maybe not.

This end of the living room looks bland in the photos, but busy in person, so IDK. The art is another slice of the same postcard as in the dining area. The little bead tables were Mom's thing, as is the fancy flower arrangement. I like the switch to a larger, more textural but not patterned area rug (it's super-suede), but I feel like we need a lamp or something. Maybe next year.

The kitchen is my favorite update. The poster from an old cookbook cover is much more dramatic than whatever I had there before.

Switching to the red wallpaper brought the room into focus. It's so reminiscent of the mid-century Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook cover that I'd originally intended to use that as the poster. But The Magic of Leftovers had the same color scheme and was funnier. The shelf is a laser-cut wooden key, probably from Dollar Tree, with a craft stick shelf added.

The bathroom got a more serious wallpaper, from a Tim Holtz pack I got at Joann in the last days before liquidation started. The washer and dryer are Town Square. I decided Ashley and Greg would appreciate a more sensuous tub and also moved the too-small bedroom rug into the bath.

Having two dressing tables in the bathroom seemed excessive, so I brought in a Marx-adjacent hutch that I particularly like.

The spot with the plates used to have a Mucha print, but it kept looking muddy in half-scale. These are almost certainly Dollar Tree stickers. I brought in a more colorful highboy and a real rug. The armchairs were Mom's idea. They're a little beige for the room, but I haven't seen them in pink.

The wallpaper was from last year, and I'm still pleased with it. This year, I remembered to add wall lamps. Ashley and Greg have a very large cat, Woody, who jumps on them at night.
