'Hope of the Hopeless' new Ukraine icon
Fr. Jules Chevalier was a French priest who accomplished many good works. In 1854, he and colleauges laid the groundwork for the foundation of the congregation of the 'Missionaries of the Sacred Heart.' In addition to the well-known Sacred Heart of Jesus, Madonna Mary was given a title, 'Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.' She was also given the title "Hope of the Hopeless." https://m-jpic.tripod.com/raysabio/index-203a-5.htm
This background leads us to this new stunning icon from an artist in Ukraine, Uliana Krekhovets.

The words at the bottom refer to a brutal Russian missile attack on the city of Poltava (in central Ukraine) on September 3. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c1m0ylnkylko
She wrote this caption:
Господи, прийми до себе душі невинно вбитих сьогодні українців. Нехай твій суд буде справедливим для їхніх катів. "Lord, accept the innocent Ukrainians killed today unto yourself. May your judgment be just for their executioners."

Born in 1987 in Lviv, Ukraine. Uliana Krekhovets is an artist, icon painter, designer, art manager, coordinator of art projects of the development department of the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU), teacher of the Icon Painting School "Radruzh" of the UCU. She graduated from the Lviv National Academy of Arts with a degree in "Design" (2011) and the "Radruzh" Icon Painting School at the Ukrainian Catholic University (2013).
In her works, she uses natural wood, levkas, yolk tempera, organic and mineral pigments, as well as gilding and silvering techniques. By combining these traditional materials with modern ones, she imitates and at the same time interprets the synthesis of ancient and modern Ukrainian iconography. A special place in her work is dedicated to the Ukrainian folk icon on glass, which is for the artist an object of research, a means of continuing the tradition and a field for her own interpretation. Also she is the author of the series of gift icons on glass - "My_Dear_God".  https://iconart-gallery.com/en/artists/uliana-krekhovets/ (This link has more of her biography and exhibitions.) In December 2023, some church leaders prayed before a different icon of the "Hope of the Hopeless" and spoke about the importance right now of this icon type to the people of Ukraine. Read what they said at https://ugcc.ua/en/data/mother-of-god-we-entrust-our-hope-in-your-hands-today-head-of-the-ugcc-before-the-icon-hope-of-the-hopeless-809/
Here is a prayer from that occasion: “Mother of God, the hope of the hopeless, save us! When we find ourselves on the verge of human strength, with no one else to turn, we come to You. We place our hope in Your hands. O Mother of God, the hope of the hopeless, embrace and warm us; grant us the one you hold in your arms, in whom the entire earth and all humanity place their hopes. Most Holy Mother of God, the hope of the hopeless, save us!” His Beatitude Sviatoslav addressed the Mother of God.

Born March 29, 1944, in Swalaba, Accra, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was raised in Accra, Ghana’s capital. His father’s residence in Accra was effectively the headquarters of the country’s first political party, the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), after it was formed at Saltpond on August 4, 1947. Three of the Big Six (founding fathers of Ghana) were Nana’s blood relatives: J.B Danquah (grand uncle), William Ofori Atta (uncle), and Edward Akufo-Addo, who became the third Chief Justice and later ceremonial President of the Republic from 1970-72, was his father.
Akufo-Addo had his primary education at the Government Boys School and later Rowe Road School both in Accra Central. Nana went on to England to study for his O- Level and A- Level examinations. He returned to Ghana in 1962 to teach at the Accra Academy before going to the University of Ghana in 1964 to read Economics. After graduating as an economist, he went on to read law in the UK and was called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in July 1971 and the Ghana Bar in 1975.
He is married to Rebecca, daughter of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Third Republic of Ghana, the late Mr. Justice Griffiths-Randolph. They have five children, with five grandchildren, and are both devout Christians.

"Founders' Day" The late President John Evans Atta Mills made September 21st a Public holiday to celebrate Ghana's first democratically elected president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. In 2012, President John Dramani Mahama directed the Ministry of Interrior to send an amendment bill to parliament to make the day statutory holiday when passed by Parliament. This day was named "Founder's Day." This amendment was met with serious opposition by members of the NPP (now in government). Their argument is that Kwame Nkrumah should not be the only person celebrated on "founder's day," but the other founding members of United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) like Ako -Adjei, Edward Akufo-Addo, J. B Danquah, Obetsebi-Lamptey and William Ofori-Atta should all be celebrated and the day should be know as "Founders' Day." And this is because the fight for independence from colonial rule began with the formation of UGCC. Recently, President Akufo-Addo's government has suggested "Founders' Day" be moved to August 13 (date of the formation of UGCC) and Nkrumah's birthday be celebrated on September 21. Yesterday, these arguments popped up again on almost all our media channels. Historians, academicians and many other intellectuals were called on to share their opinion on the matter. Today, I asked some people their opinions about the issue. . . Alfred Mordedzi is an electrician and he thinks everyone who was involved in the fight for independence be celebrated. But he thinks making the day a holiday is unnecessary. "We get chaw holidays for Ghana so this one no dey hia. We go fit rec am without making am a holiday." . . #Kpone #katamanso #Accra #Ghana #Africa #politics #history #statutory #kwamenkrumah #UGCC #independence #colonialrule #johndramanimahama #evansattamills #president #akufoaddo #media #streetstyle #streetphotography #accrawedey #everydayafrica (at Ashaiman - Zenu)

Let’s ask the intercession of the saints of Ukraine — men and women who know the hearts of the Ukrainian people (and some of whom know the dangers of Russian aggression, having themselves fallen victim to it). Priest and Martyr Father Ivan Ziatyk was born on December 26, 1899, in the village of Odrekhiv, near Sianok. After finishing his theology studies in Przemysl (Peremyshl) seminary in 1923, he was ordained to the priesthood. In 1935 he entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists). He was a teacher of dogmatic theology and holy scripture and was also known as a good administrator. During the Nazi occupation, he was acting superior of the monastery in Ternopil and later in Zboiski near Lviv. After the official liquidation of the UGCC and the exile of Protohegumen Yosyf de Vokhta, Father Ivan took on his duties. On January 5, 1950, he was arrested and found guilty of “preaching the ideas of the pope of Rome regarding the spread of the Catholic faith among nations of the whole world.” At first, he was imprisoned in Zolochiv and later was sent to Ozerlah, Irkhutsk region, Russia. In all, he lived through 72 interrogations. On Good Friday in 1952, he was severely beaten, drenched with water, and left to lie in the cold. He died in the prison infirmary on May 17, 1952, a martyr for the faith. “He stood and prayed the whole day; for whole days he prayed every moment. He was such a pleasant person to talk to. You could hear many wise and instructive words from him; this was especially so in my case, as at that time I was a youngster.” – From an interview with fellow prisoner Anatolii Medelian. https://www.instagram.com/p/CbnDZBEr1BT/?utm_medium=tumblr
