Aiste Ginaityte: Seven Deadly Sin Photographer

Aiste Ginaityte is one of the biggest photography inspirations I had during my college course work; with my theme on the Seven Deadly Sins. In her work, she has used a range of techniques including a series of mid-shot portraits, which were later edited to exaggerate the theme.

Despite keeping her personal life rather secret, Aiste Ginaityte is originally from Ukmerge, Lithuania but moved to Vilnius, Lithuania. There are no records of the schools she has attended and what influenced her to follow a career in photography, but does have a business account on Facebook and a website: https://www.bescouted.com/photo/85230451/Aiste-Ginaityte/93376113/

Ginaityte’s representation of the sins show women dressed in high-end clothing; usually dresses of a sort that gives the sins their individuality. One of my favorites is her representation of Wrath, showing red climbing up the model's arm; the colour giving connotations of anger, blood and danger, linking back to the sin. The context behind this photograph is that the anger is plaguing the character and is taking over her control as well as her body. The imagery used is very surreal as it uses editing techniques to manipulate the image into something that isn’t real to help tell a story. The model is central in the frame and has a leading line as you follow the colour down the models are or up towards her face. The camera itself is very much level with the model as they stare directly into it, with an intimidating expression to concern the viewer. The harsh studio lighting helps to create lots of positive space on the model's skin and shirt but also casts darker negative space along the cheekbones, black clothing and hair. The balance of high and low key tones throughout the image helps sharpen the photo between the tones it uses to create jagged shape. Ginaityte has used more of an editing technique rather than focusing on loads of colour and camera technique; she has captured the viewer with effects that dominate her images.

I believe that Aiste Ginaityte’s work has helped me to come up with more adventurous edits to try out on my own photography work; examples like having a duplicate the model or adding SFX. I think the overall series shows a line of professional images that sum up the Seven Deadly Sins with both camera skills and editing, which I think photography is all about; being able to combine both skills together to create one all-round skilled piece.
