Shall we step into today's recording? Unknown Mortal Orchestra (UMO) is a psychedelic rock band originally from Auckland, New Zealand, now based in Portland, Oregon. The band was founded in 2009 by multi-instrumentalist Ruban Nielson, who initially started it as a solo project after leaving his previous band, The Mint Chicks. UMO blends elements of lo-fi, indie rock, garage rock, and R&B, creating a unique sound that has earned them critical acclaim.

This song is part of UMO’s upcoming EP CURSE, set to release on June 18, 2025. The EP takes inspiration from Italian horror films of the 1970s and 1980s, reflecting dark and cathartic themes. Boys with the Characteristics of Wolves features abrasive, Black Sabbath-inspired riffs, contrasting with the intricate guitar work that UMO is known for.

Stereolab has some new singles out, too, and they sound great. I'm very excited to hear this new album once it drops. Fans had some things to say in the comments of a recent Instagram post because they used AI in their new music video for Aerial Troubles. Hopefully they understand that their fans are socialists and don't want to see that shit coming from a band that seemed to share the same politics on their previous releases.

Back in like high school I had "principles" about shipping, like, specific dynamics I'd figured I just wasn't and wouldn't be into, and it's been SEVERAL years now since I was able to say I'd betrayed all of those principles except incest well GUESS WHAT FINALLY HAPPENED.

I love how he just swaps over to Amatus without any explanation, like, he knows he's fucked but he's not ready to tell the Inquisitor he's falling for him so out comes an endearment the Inquisitor probably doesn't know the exact meaning for. He can call him that, and not let all his walls down just yet.

I wonder if it's also a reclamation thing, like, he says in his homeland, two men together isn't 'forbidden' per say but it's just seen as fun, not a commitment. So he's calling the Inquisitor a pet name out of a bit of spite, bit of pride. He's claiming this word for them, because despite what others think, this is the person he wants to call that, and yes, he's another man.
