Greetings

Meeting people has fundamentally changed my life. The idea of something growing out of my meetings with other people is the theme underlying all of my photography. I am looking forward to meeting many more people. I cannot really say that my photos have a single definitive style, because the “meetings” that give life to them are each unique, generating subtle variations. That is why, if someone asks me what kind of a photographer I am, I call myself a “meeting-people” photographer.

人との出会いが僕を変えて来た。 人との出会いによって生まれるアイディアは、僕が撮る写真のテーマの根底に流れている。 これからも、僕はいろいろな事を通じてもっとたくさんの人々に会いたい。 僕の写真のスタイルを一つに定義するのは難しいかもしれない。なぜなら出会いとはそれぞれすべて違うから。 だから人から「あなたはどんなカメラマンなのか？」と聞かれたら僕はいつも「出会いのカメラマン」と答える。

Haruo Matsuya

Born 1964, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.                     Dropped out of local high school in the first year.

1983 Moved to Tokyo.

1986 Went to England alone to study photography without any connections                 Lived in an empty house in Brixton, London, for about six months.

1987 Returned to Japan.

1989 Worked as a helper employee of Kyocera Corporation at the Shinjuku                    main store of Yodobashi Camera.

1991 Introduced to photographer Akira Gomi by a Canadian NHK journalist                 who was a regular customer at Yodobashi Camera.

1991 Studied photography as an assistant to photographer Akira Gomi.

1994 Becomes independent from photographer Akira Gomi. Started working as           a freelance photographer.

2004 Appointed lecturer at Tokyo Visual Arts College, Department of Photography Taught at own seminar 'Matsuya Seminar'.

2018 Resigned as lecturer at Tokyo Visual Arts College.

2018 Assigned to the Philippines as a 'NIHONGO PARTNERS' member of the             Japan Foundation Taught Japanese at a public high school.

2019 Returns to Japan.

2020 Starts working as a Japanese language teacher.

2022 The private work 'MIYUKI FIFTY FOUR DAYS LOVE', produced in 1999,               will be adapted for the stage in collaboration with the theatre company               univalize. The work is called '54 Days Love'.

2023  Undergo surgery to remove colon cancer and liver cancer. 2024 Cancer is found in the liver again, but I refuse surgery and chooses                        alternative treatment.

2025 Currently living with my Mother Fusae for six years.            Lives in Anjo City, Aichi JAPAN

松谷椿土（まつやはるお）

1964年 愛知県生まれ 地元の高校を一年で中退。 1983年 上京。 1986年 単身何の伝もなくイギリスへ写真を撮るために武者修行。ロンドンの                 空き家で約半年間生活。 1987年 帰国。 1989年 株式会社ヨドバシカメラ新宿本店に京セラ株式会社のヘルパー社員と                 して勤務。 1991年 常連客であったカナダ人のNHKジャーナリストより写真家五味彬氏を

             紹介される。 1991年 写真家五味彬氏に師事。 1994年 写真家五味彬氏から独立。フリーランスとして活動開始。 2004年 専門学校 東京ビジュアルアーツ 写真学科講師就任。自己のゼミ

            「松谷ゼミ」を受け持��。 2018年 専門学校 東京ビジュアルアーツ 写真学科講師退任。 2018年 独立行政法人国際交流基金「NIHONGO PARTNERS」として                               フィリピンへ赴任。 2019年 帰国。 2020年 日本語教師として活動を始める。 2022年 1999年制作の作品「MIYUKI FIFTY FOUR DAYS LOVE」                                       が劇団univalizeとのコラボレーションにより舞台化される。                                作品名「54Days Love」。 2023年 大腸ガン、���臓ガンの摘出手術を受ける。 2024年 肝臓に再度ガンが見つかるが、摘出手術を拒否し、代替え治療を選ぶ。 2025年 現在、母との生活8年目を迎える 。 愛知県安城市在住。

依頼された仕事の写真を撮る傍ら、プライベート作品の制作にも勤しむ。 テーマは、韓国、出張写真館、トランスパーティー、出会い（自称 出会いのカメラマン）東日本大地震、ZINE制作、恋愛写真等。
