Chimera Constantine breakdown, refs & nods mega-post
Tumblr media
Welcome to the master post of behind the scenes for the Chimera Constantine comics. In the style of the Sons of Mars ones I made, this post archives our research and process. So here we go! This will be a mix of showing references and personal anecdotes for how we cobbled this project together.
I'll be repeating some things I've mentioned across blog posts because I like having all this info in one place.
So! There's a lot of ways to go about re-interpretation and re-imagining a story, and one of my techniques is to not get overly attached to research. While it's good to be informed about a character, sometimes knowing every little thing about them can make one hesitant to innovate and try something different with them. So I'm purposely mindful about how much material I research.
But how does something like that work when the character in question has only 2-3 total appearances, one arc, and a quick revisit several years later? We play twin telephone.
Tumblr media
For this project, Cin read the Hellblazer Golden Boy arc and vaguely retold it to Jes, who would then write a story based on assumptions and half-remembered memories of the story. Letting personal experience, influences and bias fill the blanks. We're inspired by how Naoki Urusawa wrote Pluto based on his mis-remembered memories of reading Astro Boy. Also when I was a kid I used to look at book covers and summaries and make up a story based on the limited information I was given. It's fun for me. Part of why I love obscure characters so much is that the lack of content about them lets the reader fill in the blanks about their lives and try telling new stories about them that aren't constrained by a saturated canon.
The original Golden Boy arc written by Jamie Delano (#39-40) is about John Constantine coming to the realization that he strangled his twin in the womb. After taking some 'shrooms, John...manifests into another reality, it's very surreal. There, John meets his twin from a universe where John had died, and his brother gets to live. The twin (taking on the name John Constantine, we'll call him Golden Mage to keep it simple) is John's opposite in every better way. They decide to merge their souls to restore...the universe. You kind of had to be there.
John's twin returns many issues later (#249) to wrap up a different arc, there he and the story are written by Andy Diggle.
Tumblr media
The first panel of our full comic references the tarot cards John gets from his reading with Zed.
Tumblr media
This panel is a direct reference to this scene where John sees his own shadow on a curtain after his reading with Zed. I like the imagery of this arc, even when the dialogue describing twins is really cringe. We changed it to a mirror to reinforce the mirror imagery throughout the comic. Speaking of which...!
Tumblr media
Through Jes' reworking of the story, mirrors were streamlined to be the main way alternate universes were portrayed in the story. They'd be the main motif that paralleled the twins too. In issue #249 of Hellblazer, John uses the mirror to confront his twin who resides within himself after their soul-merge years ago.
Tumblr media
The line "He's so beautiful, he frightens me." is spoken by a doctor witnessing the Golden Boy's birth in his universe. We repurposed it to be John's dialogue for when he's describing the man he sees in the mirror.
Tumblr media
John's twin uses a sacrifice involving these candles to summon his sickly twin. Jes repurposed the use of candles to a magic salt circle that contains spirits like the Golden Boy (he's nicknamed "Goldie" in our take).
Tumblr media
The Golden Boy! Even though he died in the womb, he's portrayed as a boy. Probably because a floating fetus wasn't what they were going for. We wanted to give him a distinct look that foreshadows how much he would grow his hair out. I like that his mouth isn't visible! We use the shape of his eyes and posing to get across how he's feeling. It gives him a vacant-toddler-stare I find really endearing.
Tumblr media
We made some minor adjustments to the Golden Mage's design. Initially, we followed his canonical pulled back long hair. But since he was a challenging character to emote when we had one less arm to work with, we decided to part his hair so that it could carry how he's feeling. I like when I can get it to cover a part of his face for intense moments! If it was animated, it would 100% be expressive Ghibli hair.
Our main goal for Golden Mage's characterization is to make him feel like his own person. In the original arc, he's less of a sibling and more of an au of John Constantine himself. He doesn't get his own name. Despite gloating about having a better and more fulfilling love life than John, he also shared the exact same love interests John does. Being a twin is less about a family story and more a vehicle to talk about self hatred and potential here. Which isn't fair to the individuality of the characters!
Tumblr media
(note, this is not how the panels look in the og comic, I've rearranged them so that they display on this post better)
So we characterized the Golden Mage to still have his canon charisma (albeit with the dialogue toned way down from his original appearance), but to have a thinly veiled temper under all that bravado to foil his con-man trickster brother. The Golden Mage was vaguely described as not being particularly attached to the love he receives. Golden Mage is also dismissive of his womb twin's death, saying it's something he shouldn't grieve since he never really knew him. We reinterpreted these lines as him being in denial over his brother's death, thinking himself as above his own feelings of grief.
Also as a tiny note, we kept the Golden Mage's name ambiguous to keep with the vibe of the original comic, but in my mind I headcanon his full name to be Marigold "Goldie" Constantine. The yellow flower is culturally associated with prosperity, but also grief and jealousy. It's perfect for him! So we made references to the flower in the cover and first panels of the comic. I also headcanon that as a kid he called John Constantine's ghost "Johnny".
Tumblr media
My influences for how this whole beginning meeting scene is staged and played out is E.M Carroll's When I Arrived At The Castle. The "animated" panels of Golden Mage looking back at John and breaking through the mirror is a direct call back to the keyhole sequence in that comic! The premise of daydreaming about how your life could have been and not realizing that you're staring at an alternate universe is loosely inspired by Junji Ito's Hellstar Remina. I really like the concept of staring into the unknown and then something sentient staring back from that. "What if our day dreams are just other realities we're dreaming of" kind of deal. I don't see that sort of thing in the saturation of multiverse stories these days.
Tumblr media
Next reference is the Dead Boy's Heart! While I like that this story's its own thing, I was surprised it wasn't linked to John's dead brother in any way. It felt thematically relevant, so we brought it over as a device to trap Goldie while the brothers merge souls.
Tumblr media
Twins can be positioned in a bunch of ways in the womb. I think canonically, John and Golden Mage were positioned like they are in the cover for Hellblazer #39, ideal for strangling I guess! We changed it to echo the motion of yin and yang. I do think the inclusion of yin and yang is a little cringey in the original comic even though I get what it's going for (balance and all that, it's just kind of simplistic to the philosophy). But I do like it as a way to echo card imagery we established in this comic. We combined the imagery of the tarot cards featured in the Golden Boy arc and King/Queen/Joker playing cards. So it felt right to bring back that whole upside down twins in the womb thing. Special fact, this is how my twin and I were vibing in the womb.
Tumblr media
The scene where the twins hit Ctrl + E to merge layers! It's a pretty iconic pose! I like how their heads peaked out of the panels so I brought it back for our comic too. In our version, the twins fail to merge their souls entirely. In the revisit to the Golden Boy character in the comics in issue #249, it's revealed that the merging "failed" in some way, trapping the Golden Mage within John's soul.
Tumblr media
For John's ghost counterpart from Golden Mage's universe we took Dave McKean's portrayal of him very literally haha. I know he doesn't literally have one eye, but we thought it gave him a really distinct look for us to stylize. We decided to keep the ghost kids consistent with no mouth and vacant pupil-less stares. We gave ghost kid!John a sort of bedsheet ghost form to contrast against Goldie.
Speaking of one eye! That's another motif we decided to emphasize throughout the comic. It's not in the source material at all, but we liked it as a way to both hint at chimerism and visualize how the two brothers serve as incomplete halves of each other. Special fact! Heterochromia can show up in chimera twins. Of course in the case of identical twins like the Constantines, their chimerism isn't as detectable since they have identical sets of DNA. But! It's still fun to stylize in a supernatural way. For our take we show the glowing golden eye as the soul of the Golden Boy manifesting in his brother. I like to think that John takes advantage of how undetectable his chimerism is to have an upper hand in any soul-related deals he makes.
This stylized heterochromia is inspired by @ratblazer 's Constantine design! I made a subtle nod to it with young punk John's make up echoing the scar in her design too.
Tumblr media
For John's dynamic with Goldie the Golden Boy, we built the conflict of the story around making him doubt his attachment to his dead brother. There's a line of dialogue in the revisited Golden Boy arc about John needing to "let go", so we repurposed it into the Golden Mage assuring him that his attachments make him weak.
Even though the Golden Boy doesn't show up nearly as much as I think he should in canon, John has been shown to be really sentimental about him. John wants to be the Golden Boy's friend because he's so beautiful John mistook him for Jesus as a kid. Canonically, the Golden Boy ghost rejects John's friendship, likely still not over the whole strangulation in the womb thing. It still breaks John's heart though, he's a sobbing mess about being owned by a dead kid.
We changed this whole dynamic! The twin murder in the womb felt very X-men Xavier vs Cassandra Nova, and it's hard to get behind babies having that much motivation before they're even born. In our version, Goldie is a vanishing twin absorbed by John, the sickly twin. Infants being accidentally strangled by umbilical cords does occur in reality. However, we changed their origin to being that of Vanishing Twin syndrome because it was more specific for the ideas we were going for.
I feel this crucial change is more in tune with the overall themes of Hellblazer. John always cheats death at a cost. People are constantly sacrificed for John's continued survival. But the Golden Boy's case would be special, because he sacrificed himself out of love before he even knew what it means to love. Unlike the other ghosts that haunt John Constantine, Goldie isn't resentful of John. I think it makes more sense for the Golden Boy to be attached to John because he's all the Golden Boy's ever known. As a chimera twin, John is like a horcrux holding his brother's soul in his body. This reaffirms survivor's guilt to be something John experiences since his birth.
Tumblr media
Canonically, although the Golden Mage initially feels sorry for the ghost of John that haunts him, he rejects John as well. John's ghost in canon is like a nuisance that keeps bothering Golden Mage. There's an instance mentioned of Golden Mage trying to recreate his murder in the womb? It's cryptically written. But Golden Mage does keep using the phrase "banished" to describe his brother.
We took this and made it so that he performed an exorcism on himself to remove his supernatural chimera-bond to John's ghost. The Golden Boy arc is pretty unique when compared with how saturated multiverse stories are nowadays since it doesn't share the science fiction sensibilities. Grief comes up a lot in multiverse stuff, in these stories characters use parallel universes to save a loved one as they're bargaining with their loss. For our take, we wanted a character to use the alternate universes to hurt and lash out at the loved one they're grieving. I pulled influence from Everything Everywhere All At Once's concept of a self destructive character on a search for the one familial connection who could understand what they're feeling.
Tumblr media
References! The first panel is a nod to issue #36 where John is sleeping with Marj. We changed her to Kit. The second panel is a direct callback to issue #67, an iconic visual for his break up angst era.
Tumblr media
Trivia; this page was added at the last minute! I needed something to bridge the birthday cupcake page and the final panel of Golden Mage's breakdown, so I linked them through candles! In this weird case, I reference my own work! This is a callback to Birthdays, a short comic we made for John Constantine's canonical birthday. It sets the premise for his relationship with Goldie based on the habits and experiences of survivor twins. The pages referencing this comic are meant to re-establish that John shares meals with his twin.
I wanted this page to feel like John's lighting an incense for his dead brother, and to contrast it with the snuffed out candles from Golden Mage's flashback. The candle has a yellow and blue intertwined spiral pattern that calls back to the color of John and Golden mage's dialogue boxes and speech bubbles, along with how twisted they look when they merged. Implying that in this universe, they're together in some way. I really wish I did this intentionally but it was by complete coincidence of making the cupcake pink and balancing it out with pastel primaries. But I sure can acknowledge how cool it looks symbolically okay???
Tumblr media
The dialogue here is a nod to John's monologue in issue #19 where John is comforting Simon Hughes. It's re-contextualized a bit to be about sharing grief together in our comic.
Tumblr media
This is a really goofy one but- since Golden Mage is supposed to be the fully realized potential of John, we thought that he would have a successful career as a musician and singer where John didn't. I don't think Golden Mage would be a punk singer though, he probably does something he'd consider more elevated.
BUT-! In the 30th Anniversary edition of Hellblazer, Sting (the guy John's appearance is based on) wrote an introduction for the edition while roleplaying as the Golden Boy. Which is nuts. The Anniversary edition basically canonized Sting as being a Constantine variant in our universe with the soul of Golden Boy. Sting, as Golden Boy, describes himself as a musician and singer too. Absolutely bonkers for Sting to throw me a bone this late in the game since no one's touched this character in ages.
Tumblr media
Another E.M Carroll influenced panel sequence. This is from the digital comic Out of Skin.
So that brings us to the end of the comic! We've had the ideas for this comic cooking for some time, and it's people's continued interest in our takes on these characters that gave us the chance to finally bring the story together.
I'm very fascinated by the Golden Boy story, not because it's particularly strong compared to other stories in Hellblazer's run, but because its intriguing premise is bogged down by its surreal take on typical Evil Twin tropes. og Hellblazer's strength was always in its raw humanity. John Constantine's character countered the sensational spectacle of his superhero contemporaries. He may be able to outwit a vampire but he's can't fight back against being brutalized by the police. In one of his most iconic arcs, he finds out he has cancer- not because of any supernatural shenanigans, but because he literally smokes too much. In another arc, John's long time girlfriend breaks up with him, and he lashes out by saying the cruelest things to her. When he hears that his abusive dad is murdered, John still cries about it.
Tumblr media
I think the Golden Boy arc and the retcon that followed his brief return actively undermines what makes Hellblazer special. Suddenly John's having X-Men-level evil twin escapades in the womb. Suddenly, merging with his twin will help save the universe. Suddenly, it's not smoking that caused John to have cancer! It was actually because he merged with his twin and his twin became the cancer from inside him! Suddenly it wasn't a moment of lashing out that caused John to say all those cruel things to his ex upon their break up, that was actually the Golden Boy controlling him from within, so you see it's not really his fault! Also what followed the break up was extra devastating because of the Golden Boy, somehow.
Often I hear in fandom that when you change a character too much from their canon counterpart it's basically "just an oc" at that point, but in the case of characters who get to be re-imagined and passed through many creative teams, I think that kind of mindset is deeply limiting for transformative work. The line I draw between "just an oc" and an interpretation is if the changes involved engage with their source material in any way or if they're just superficial. Big changes and 180 flips can work because they still respond to the history of said character. It's why we see that kind of thing in canon a lot. These characters are inherently built to be passed through many hands in meaningful ways to varying degrees of success. So I hope that by showing all this process that goes behind big changes to a canon character, people better understand what can go into transformative creativity.
Tumblr media
Our thesis for this re-imagining is to take what makes Hellblazer special and re-examine the arc that we felt undermined that. Despite the grief John has for many characters in his cast, mourning isn't brought up at all in the Golden Boy arc. It's dismissed by the characters in narration, and the Golden Mage himself isn't even recognized as a sibling by the narrative, no matter how many times John calls him "bro".
Survivor twin grief over dead womb twins especially is a real thing that's often dismissed because in the words of canon Golden Mage himself "I couldn't mourn for those I'd never known". This is not true to the experience of twins. They play with and remember each other from spending 9 months growing in a tight space together. So when one of them doesn't make it out with the other, that survivor feels a grief they can't comprehend. It can manifest in unresolved trauma, commitment issues, and survivor's guilt. All things that feel so relevant to the themes of John Constantine's character. I think that by integrating the real lived experiences of survivor twins, the Golden Boy arc could've been one the most human and personal parts of the original Hellblazer run. It's could've been a story that helped a community of people so rarely validated in their grief feel seen.

Absolutely massive lore drops from Shadow Generations
Gerald Robotnik had 2 sons (which we have a picture of!!) whom he loved very much. One of them had Gerald's love of archaeology, the other his love of robotics.
The archaeology son is the one who initially discovered Emerl.
Gerald had found Angel Island and the altar of the Master Emerald but left things alone because he wanted to be respectful to the land.
^This explains why the Eclipse Cannon's core has a structure shaped like the shrine in SA2.
SPEAKING OF SA2... you know those cameos of Big the Cat in (the Dreamcast version of) SA2? Yeah, those are canon. Apparently he loses Froggy a lot which causes him to go on a ton of adventures. He even tells Shadow that he saw him running past a few times on the ARK.
Gerald was absolutely adamant about his research being used to help people, not develop weapons. He seems to have been constantly clashing heads with GUN who would not fund his research (which was to try and cure Maria) unless he was making weapons.
^Because of this, any weapons he developed (or in Emerl's case, studied) had some sort of counterbalance that Gerald would add in order to make the weapon suck less (see following couple of points).
He hoped that the technology that he developed to make Artificial Chaos (AI that can be added to any body of water to shape it as needed) would be used to help save flood victims by scooping them up out of the debris.
While studying Emerl he established a link and noted that since Emerl wouldn't listen to anybody else that at least he wouldn't be used for evil. He also attempted to change Emerl's AI to become "free-willed and emotions-based."
He didn't want to develop the Eclipse Cannon so it was purposely made to be too destructive to be useful. He figured he'd also use it to deal with Black Doom.
Project Shadow was named as such because Gerald thought the goverment were idiots for trying to make him pursue something as impossible as immortality. He saw it "as intangible as a shadow" and described the project as impossible as "chasing a shadow."
But when Maria saw Shadow she said "shadows let you know which way the light is" and Gerald remarked that she turned his bitter naming convention into something hopeful and pure.
Speaking of Project Shadow... we have a picture of Maria holding the little baby Biolizard!
Gerald developed the Chaos Drives (those things that come out of GUN robots that you feed your Chao in SA2) to try and apply Chaos Emerald energy to living tissue without damaging it. He used them on the Biolizard.
Gerald reluctantly provided GUN Chaos Drives so that he could continue researching a cure for Maria.
Maria loved the Biolizard.
The Biolizard grew large because of the experiments... which its body couldn't support. Thus the life-support apparatus on its back, though it seemed to be in great physical pain. It was hidden away in the area you fight it in SA2.
^These failures are why Gerald struck up a deal with Black Doom. Without Doom's DNA Shadow would have gone the same way as the Biolizard.
Maria has a little sister!!!
Maria was born on Earth and sent to the ARK because the low-gravity environment makes her condition more manageable. Gerald's journal makes it sound like Maria's sister was born after she got up there but in-game Maria mentions how she misses her sister so maybe not?
@nagichi-boop (I hope it's okay to tag you) has a nice post talking about the excellent "invisible disability" representation. Both Gerald's journal and Maria discuss aspects of her disability, including Gerald's anger the over ARK researchers who talk about Maria behind her back.
Maria helped develop Shadow's air shoes and inhibitor rings, her insight valuable as these are framed as disability aids.
If Shadow takes off the inhibitor rings, he'd probably explode.
Maria and Shadow were taught by a lady teacher aboard the ARK. Shadow never turned in his homework.
The only thing Maria ever saw Shadow consume was coffee.
Maria met Big in the white space and instantly loved him. Big asked Maria and Gerald if they wanted to go fishing.
Omega is not powered by Animals, Chaos Drives, or any Emerald-based mechanism. He mentions something about absorbing environmental energy or something? The takeaway is that he's probably not destined to end up like most robots in the series (dead) because he doesn't have a power source that's going to screw him over.
E-123 "I don't have emotions" Omega was worried about Rogue and values Shadow and Rogue's friendship. Just don't call it friendship.
Maria being up on the ARK for so long was causing strain and division between Gerald and his sons. Gerald was desperate to cure Maria and get his family back.
Big has met Elise.
Commander Tower was the only other kid aboard the ARK.
Gerald gave Shadow some pre-set memories so that his awakening would go smoothly. Maria and him became friends instantly.
According to Maria, Shadow is more confident now than when she knew him.
Gerald called Shadow son. I'm not crying you are.
Both in the journal and in-game Gerald mentions how he is sorry for the trouble and weight that he has placed on Shadow (because of needing to strike a deal with Black Doom).
Emerl was handed over to GUN to try and buy more time for Maria's research. GUN reestablished a link by showing him an increasingly dangerous amount of weapons until Emerl started to freak out and destroy stuff. One of his rampages caused an automatic SOS ping to be sent out...
...It was that ping that summoned the soldiers who killed Maria.

I received a very thoughtful anon ask about Qi Rong and in the process of doing research for the ask, I came across a meta about Qi Rong on the Chinese website Zhihu that I absolutely loved, so I translated the meta into English - anon I will answer your ask ASAP, in the meantime I hope you're interested in this excellent meta:
I think Qi Rong's feelings for Xie Lian isn't that of a fan for his idol, but that of a child for an imaginary "father". So he wouldn't try to understand and study XL's character like Hua Cheng; he's only looking up to this "father figure".
This isn't a baseless conjecture - the relationship between father and son has always been a topic that can't be averted when it comes to Qi Rong. I'm guessing that when he was bullied and excluded by other kids in his childhood, it didn't occur to Qi Rong to hate the circumstances of his family; instead he wished for his father to stand up for him and help him teach those nasty kids a lesson. This wish had always existed in Qi Rong's heart and became a traumatising shadow of his childhood.
Whereas his cousin, the prince Xie Lian, who suddenly appeared in his life to help him, was unconsciously used by Qi Rong to fit his expectation of the "father". XL did what he expected a father to do, so he placed XL in his fantasies about a father. Since his abusive and useless father doesn't cut it, then someone as gentle and strong as XL must be the standard for what a "father" is like. Subconsciously Qi Rong had this idea.
Therefore I think a lot of the dumb and horrible things that Qi Rong did for XL is only due to the anxiety that a son feels towards the indifference of the "father", so he tried to do something compensatory to win the father's attention and approval; but this didn't work out at all.
This is also why he's good to Gu Zi, because Gu Zi is just another Qi Rong - he's abused by the father but still begs for the father's love and doesn't allow others to hurt his father. It's probably because Qi Rong understands what this feels like that he'd pretend to be a seemingly decent "father" for Gu Zi.
(Here the author also points out the connection between Qi Rong and Gu Zi based on their names, which needs to be explained to English readers in more detail - Qi Rong's name "Rong," in Chinese "容", is comprised of two parts: 宀 and 谷. The latter part is "Gu" (谷) as in Gu Zi's name, and the former part 宀 stands for a house or a home - in this sense the character "Rong 容" (Qi Rong) incorprates the character "Gu 谷" (Gi Zi) and provides a "home" or "shelter" for "Gu".)
Qi Rong shows off all kinds of places to the kid that he's never been to, deliberately bigs himself up, and protects the kid at the dire moment, because all of these are what Qi Rong hoped his father would do for him. However, Xie Lian was only a kid himself; how could he answer Qi Rong's expectations for a father?
Qi Rong undoubtedly loathes his biological father, because when Qi Rong was a kid, his father was useless and crass, made a laughing stock of Qi Rong and his mother and became the reason Qi Rong was mocked by other kids. But when Qi Rong needed his father and needed him to scold those kids, his father didn't care about him at all (probably only the father could accomplish this sort of task since Qi Rong's mother was depressed and sickly; this plot is repeated later on in Feng Xin and his son).
When the entire country was being destroyed, his other "father," Xie Lian, became a laughing stock too. XL didn't manage to help him before and after his death. For Qi Rong, this is a replay of the events that happened when he was five years old; this perfect "father" proves no different from his biological father.
So fundementally Qi Rong hates Xie Lian for the same reason that he hates his biological father. He indeed projected too many wishful fantasies on XL, but I think it's more about the son's disappointment towards a "father" instead of a believer's disappointment for a "god". In fact, whether XL activated the human face disease or whether he managed to saved Xianle is of secondary importance to Qi Rong; the complaints someone could voice out loud usually aren't what he actually cares about.
Of course, Qi Rong is possessed by the idea of avenging Xianle to some degree, otherwise he wouldn't have plotted revenge with other Xianle descendants. But what Qi Rong really cared about, he only managed to speak when his soul dissipated - it's what he always wanted to say to Xie Lian and his biological father but never could: "I worship and need you so much, but you don't care about me at all". This is more the case of a son who craves the father's love and complains about it. The relationship between Qi Rong and Gu Zi is comparable to the relationship between Jun Wu and Xie Lian. At least Gu Zi received some paternal love and won't grow up to be like Qi Rong, which is nice.
(For anyone interested in reading the original Chinese, here's the link: https://www.zhihu.com/question/372905885/answer/1735047946?utm_psn=1754070720630493184&fbclid=IwAR0eSI0gya5ERovl1C1Fphv2ZjnXGuKUalA378VWcZjoCj4NiUD7Pw6BDS0)

The Deep Dive on Shadow Magic that you 🫵 asked for
I'm gonna try not to make this post too long so check out the ALT Image Descriptions for more insight.
Tumblr media
I based my research on the principle that magic is integral to science and nature. So first of all, we should break down what a shadow is literally:
A shadow is a tear in the projection of a light caused by an Object (or individual).
1 shadow is always bound to 1 object. One object can produce several shadows at the same time (from several lights), but one shadow can't belong to two separate objects.
Shadows are 2D, but they exist in several planes.
Now let's break down each of these.
A shadow represents a soul. Belonging to a person, or something that's just real. That's why, sometimes, all a picture needs to look unsettling or dreamy is a shadow that either doesn't match the light's intensity or direction, or just isn't there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That goes to say a shadow can't exist without its Object, but the human brain finds a shadowless body weirder than a bodyless shadow. Check it out:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This happens because a shadow is and always has been a sign that Someone Is There. A bodyless shadow still feels like somebody's, but a shadowless person doesn't even feel real. Old tales described faefolk and vampires as shadowless creatures for that reason.
If your shadow represents your soul, does that mean you're your shadow, and not your body?
Uh, no. Your shadow is an indicative that you have a soul, but you are not your shadow. Your shadow isn't a separate individual either. Let's look at the “Jungian Shadow”.
Tumblr media
Literally speaking, from the perspective of the light, your shadow will always be hidden behind you, invisible, like in the first pictures of this post. The “Jungian Shadow”, named after psychologist Carl Jung (1875-1961), is the concept that your shadow is everything you hate and fear the most about yourself - it's the part of you that's so dark you don't let anyone see. Even the Bible nods to that on John 3:19-20 and Ephesians 5:11-13. Your shadow is all of your immoral urges, vulnerability and intrusive, dark thoughts combined.
Which makes these two interactions very interesting:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It makes you wonder what's up with Lena. It'd make perfect sense if Magica was Lena's shadow - which she is, for a while - because Magica is everything Lena hates and fears to become. But Lena is Magica's shadow.
If shadows aren't their own individuals, how did Magica create a person with their own thoughts and desires from her shadow? How come Lena isn't a walking amalgamation of the worst aspects of Magica?
Tumblr media
We see Magica was able to jump into her shadow while her body got sucked into the dime, then she used her powers to form a temporary body she could cling to.
But what we see isn't necessarily true. It doesn't even make sense:
You can't just CREATE life with magic alone, and even if you could, it'd with much darker arts than just Shadow Manipulation and Transmutation.
↑ It would take a lot longer and a lot more power and materials than shown in the “flashback” anyways
Why is Lena a teenager? You trynna tell me Magica created a past version of herself, without her memories, just body and maybe personality?
This scene isn't even a flashback. It's the guys' imagination illustrating the poem Lena wrote. So not only is this scene not what Lena remembers, it also isn't necessarily true as something that Lena thinks she knows. Only Magica really witnessed what happened there.
Here's what probably happened: Magica was stuck in her quickly dissipating shadow and cast a desperate spell to latch onto somebody else's shadow just like Lena did to Webby.

Lena used the power of Webby's friendship bracelet to pull herself out of the Shadow Realm by latching onto Magica's shadow and even becoming physical WITHOUT A BODY. Even if Magica's magic isn't as strong as the magic of friendship, she could've just as easily latched onto somebody's shadow, especially Scrooge's, if she just needed a body to grab his dime.
Tumblr media
I'm saying creating a teenager is overkill. It's even impractical, given her circumstances.
And I think the way Magica insists she's Lena's family - aunt, to be more precise - until she wants Lena gone for good... points us towards a very obvious solution:
Tumblr media
Lena was Magica's actual biological niece like in the original Ducktales, as Poe De Spell's daughter.
The exact time passed between Scrooge's raid on Mount Vesuvius and Magica's first attempt to trap him inside the dime isn't clear, but if it was thirteen years, it would explain why Lena is a teenager. Though that would imply taking over someone's shadow would erase their memory and freeze their age...
If you scroll back to the first GIF on this post you'll notice Lena is the only shadow who didn't have red eyes. Even Magica had red eyes. That means she wasn't a regular shadow, not even a person-shadow.
And notice that even though it looks like Lena was turned back into Magica's shadow, the next time Lena shows up (GIF 7), she does not emerge from Magica's shadow. That implies Lena was dragged into the Shadow Realm through Magica's shadow, not turned back into a it.
Another nod that Lena was never a shadow to begin with is the way she's alone in the Shadow Realm. Nobody else's shadows are following their Objects around, and when other shadow spirits do appear, they are:
Shadowy shapes, unlike Lena, who was still bodily while in the Shadow Realm
Made from Lena's feelings of fear and jealousy. Which means they were her “Jungian Shadows”, and a shadow can't have its own shadows, can it?
Tumblr media
By the way, did you notice the sunlight from that window is purple in the Shadow Realm? I think everybody knows the color of Shadow Magic is purple because it's black light - or ultraviolet light - the only light that won't light up a room, but will highlight namely “dirty” bodily fluids in fluorescent blue the way “dirty” feelings are hightlighted here.
It's interesting that Lena chose a blue light for her room, too. Just saying. I'm not going too deep into this particular detail.
Tumblr media
Back on track, the Shadow Realm is something like nisses' Nowhere Space from Hilda.
Tumblr media
It's a pocket dimension you can enter and leave through every shadow (unclear if it's only every person's shadow or any Object's shadow). The way it most differs from the Nowhere Space, is that the Nowhere Space is a space separate from a house, while the Shadow Realm seems to envelop the physical world.
Tumblr media
The reason I believe it's a pocket dimension is because Lena was afraid about what would happen to Webby if her tulpas took her outside, as if the Shadow Realm is only inside buildings. That could be because the inside of a building is a shadow in on itself. See how Lena only steps out of Webby's shadow once she's inside of the library? She also opens her eyes like she's just waking up.
Tumblr media
This explains why Magica waited until the eclipse to make her move. Duckburg was under the moon's shadow, extending the Shadow Realm into the streets.
I wasn't sure Shadow Magic could be considered Dark Magic at first, but if it allows you to bring people's evil dark sides to life and ban someone into the Shadow Realm, I guess it can be pretty harmful. Tbf it's a magic completely based on lies, omission and your Evil Dark Side. It can also just be shadow-transportation or the power to turn yourself into a shadow though.
Anyways, one thing I haven't figured out is what could be the downside to Shadow Magic. Every Dark Magic comes with a price, be it something that directly affects the user (e.g. illness, curses, losses, etc) or a setback with the spell itself, (e.g. the “came back wrong” trope). Based on the inconvenience of shadows irl, the drawbacks could be:
Feeling cold all the time
Phosphenes
Sensitivity to light and/or poor eyesight
Becoming green (???)
Tumblr media
Thanks for reading, this was.. Something. I'm getting too autistic about this show.

Hidden In The Shadows
Tumblr media
Part 2 Here
Pairing: Matt Sturniolo X Female Reader
Synopsis: Following a lesson about this town that seemed to suddenly vanish, Y/N is intrigued to figure out what truly happened. However she might’ve bitten off more than she can chew….
Warnings⚠️: Nothing crazy, talks of/explanations of a cult, creepy rural town. This was from a Drabble about matt based on a type of horror movie he’d be done by @gamermattsgf she’s wifey and I had to adapt this into an imagine😫 @st7rnioiossblog
Song for imagine: Oblivion- Grimes
I never walk about after dark
It’s my point of view
Cause someone could break your neck
Coming up behind you
Always coming and you’d never have a clue
Moving out of my hometown wasn’t on my bingo cards for this year and moving out of my hometown for a research project was 1000 percent not on my bingo cards. Yet somehow I was packed up and on the road within three months of starting my project.
I’ve always had a weird niche for all things history, but especially history that just seems to vanish into thin air. I began to become extremely interested in towns that are no longer on the map due to poverty, weather change or even these people becoming hunters and gathers. Packing up and moving out in an instant. It all started in my senior year of college. I was studying geography at my local four year college in my hometown of Nevada.
Honestly I hated college all the long hours, all the homework and also having a full time job on top of that, but I had a full ride so I decided to suck it up. My very last year I had some space for a filler class that got me extra credits so I landed on the study of United States Lands focusing on increase and decrease of population throughout the recent centuries.
Personally I thought the class was going to suck, but to my surprise my professor was amazing. Towards the end of my final semester we began to learn about Pleasant Town Oklahoma. A once booming town immediately vanished off the face of the earth.
“Now class you may be asking yourself why was this town so rich? And I’m here to tell you it’s because the mayor at the time in the year 1915 had connections with our president. They hid money, fabrics, food and all types of expensive items within this small town” Mr Wayne stated
“I mean with hiding all this stuff how did they become so wealthy?” One guy had asked, my eyes darting to him
“They were being paid off for hiding these things, however the money was dirty money, so they created many businesses to get the cash flow moving. From one store to one man’s pocket to the next and then next thing you know that dirty money is in George's hand who lives in Virginia! It was all an amazing scheme, very smart. But as you can see it didn’t last long nor did it end well” He had stated as he clicked the laptop to show the next slide shown on the board
“Within three years of this operation this small town alone was bringing in about $100,000 a month which is over $2 million dollars in today's money. So then you ask yourself how does such a rich state with so much money just disappear? And all the money too?” He states scratching his chin
“So Professor Wayne….what exactly happened to them?” I asked after raising my hand
“No one really knows” he states uncrossing his arms and leaning off the desk
“I mean there has to be a reason right? That’s a lot of money to just disappear” I state as I jot down notes
“Well here’s the other thing, there are many rumors dating back to the creation of Oklahoma which was 1907. Sources have stated that Pleasant Town is evil and I’m talking demonic evil. People have said the reason the cash flow never stopped was because they were all a cult and seemingly used one another as sacrifice.” He stated clearing his throat
“Sacrifice?” I questioned raising my eyebrow
“Well yes! In many cultures it is stated if you do a blood sacrifice for the devil and/or sell your soul then your wishes shall come true. Their wishes were to stay wealthy. This came with problems however” he says as he sits down at his desk
The whole class was on the edge of their seats waiting for him to go on.
“Many of these men had short arms and deep pockets. Making it very easy for one man to kill the next out of greed” Wayne goes on
“And didn’t they get caught? I mean the president wouldn’t allow that” one classmate states
“Very true! The town was very small, only about 80 people now if 10 people suddenly die many eyebrows are raised. For a while they covered up the stories claiming a sickness like smallpox. The mayor decided to bring animals claiming this would make them richer since they produce meat, eggs and milk. Now he wasn’t wrong, but the animals were used in these blood sacrifices to hide their tracks” he says nodding his head
“God these people were ahead of their time” I blurt out and crossed my arms over their chest
“Oh they were, but that might’ve costed them their fortunes and their town” Professor Wayne states
“So that’s it? They just left? And what now?” I asked him
“It’s stated that they just separated, leaving most of the money to the whole state of Oklahoma. Afraid the president was after them or maybe they danced with the devil for too long and ended up paying the price” he states bluntly
“And the price is?” I asked him
“Death” he says frowning a bit which caused a chill to run up my spine
“But this is all speculation. About 30 years later Pleasant Town was rebuilt and supposedly none of that cult stuff was brought to that town. And till this day it’s still up and running. I believe the population is only about 200-250 people max?” He says rubbing his chin in thought
“I mean that’s just sad… we’ll never know the truth” I said to him shutting my notebook
“I mean you could always go and visit, spend the summer there. See what it’s like……anybody up for a challenge” he says laughing as the class shudders in fear and averts their eyes to the floor
I mean I was super interested in this lost town with such a dark history that suddenly reappeared 30 years after weird cult shit was happening. I could always take the summer off from work since I graduate in May….. take a road trip to Pleasant Town Oklahoma. Find the real history and report back to Professor Wayne.
My thoughts were interrupted when the bell rang and he bid his goodbyes to the class. Everyone was quick on their feet out of the door, but I stood back very interested in talking to him.
I trotted over to his desk as he shut his laptop, stuffing it into his book bag. His eyes darting up once he felt my presence
“Ahh Ms. Y/L/N…. You seemed very intrigued with today's lesson, planning a weekend getaway?” He asked me playfully
“Funny that you mention it because I was thinking more of a whole summer get away” I stated
“A whole summer?” He says brows lifting immediately
“I’m really interested in this town. I mean a mayor in on cult rituals to bring tons of cash in and the president not having a clue? And then they just vanished? This is like a movie sir” I state as I ramble on
“I mean it’s all just speculations Y/N” he says smiling at me
“I know sir, but is there any way I can get your research on this town so I can study it a bit more? I plan on building a whole case for this and figuring it out” I pleaded
“You’re really interested in this aren’t you?” He asks opening his bag up
“I really am Professor Wayne” I say back
“Here, but listen this is a tight knit community. Don’t go digging your nose where it doesn’t belong. Tread lightly this isn’t your turf, okay? In a town like that with such a small population and a dark history, you don’t want any enemies” he says handing me the folder titled “Pleasant Town”
“Yes, and thank you sir” I stated nodding my head
After that I finished my final semester two months later in May. Between work and classes I built up more of a file on this town jumping from a folder to two binders stacked with information.
Two days after my graduation I did some research on the town. This place had no hotels, no motels and for sure no air bnbs. That’s where I ran into my first problem, attempting to find a place to stay.
Searching on Zillow I had found a house for rent. In the middle of nowhere. One gravel road and corn fields. From the pictures it did seem there were few houses across and next to it, so I figured that was perfect. I'd make friends with neighbors.
I mean the house was decent for the area. Seemed to be a two bedroom two bathroom house. The bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom down stairs and one upstairs. Had a pretty average sized kitchen in the back of the house, a dining room to the right of the front door, a living room to the left of the front door, the stairs faced the front door, and then there were small hallways that lead to the kitchen. And there was a basement that seemed small, well kept and empty. It sucks to say I actually liked the place
My second problem began when I called the realtor a very old southern man by the name of Beaufort Smithson. I dialed him that morning and from the moment he heard my accent he seemed to turn a cold shoulder.
“Please sir” I pleaded with him
“Listen ma’am you sound young and not from these parts. What bring someone like you around this small town” he states deeply
“Well I’m from Nevada and it’s just so crazy here and I’ve been looking to stay somewhere a few states away that’s quiet and small” I state
“But you’re looking to rent from June 1st to August 31st…. We do 7 month rentals” he says bluntly
“Well I want to see it I like it first” I say lying through my teeth
“Can’t you see from the pictures if you like it or not” he says sucking on his tobacco tucked in his lip
“I can have the full rent for those three months ready for you in cash” I state desperately
“In cash you say” he says as I hear his chair squeak from underneath him
God these people really were money hungry till this day…
“Yes sir $800 a month for 3 months I can get you that $2,400 in cash June 1st” I state
“Well little lady you have yourself a deal. Now get yourself a pen and paper and jot this down. June 1st 12 in the afternoon we’re going to meet at the gas station in Pleasant Town” he states spitting his tobacco into a styrofoam cup
“Uhhh what gas station is that sir?” I ask as the pen dangled in my hand
“Sweetie we only got one gas station down yonder….you can’t miss it” he says chuckling
“Right…. Well thank you Mr. Smithson, my names Y/N Y/L/N, and I’ll be seeing you on June 1st” I state
“Well alright darling see you then” he says chuckling
“Oh by the way I look like-“ but I was cut off
“Oh trust me I’ll know what you look like…..safe travels” he whispers before hanging the phone up on me
That phone call made me slightly regret my choices of spending my summer with some shit kickers than on the Las Vegas strip…..
I spent the last two and a half weeks packing, purchasing what I know I won’t find in Oklahoma and doing more research.
I think I was on page 4,000 on google before I found a new article with information I hadn’t seen before. I placed my plate of pizza down as my eyes scanned the laptop screen quickly.
It was a newspaper clipping dating back to the year 1953. Only 70 years ago…. Interesting. The title stated “Farm owner questioned in the massive slaying of all his animals” my brows furrowed.
There’s no possible way that 70 years ago these cult killings continued? But my fingers scrolled down further as I began to whisper
“Confused and angry farm owner, Thomas Sturniolo was seen today yelling at cops as he was taken out of his small Pleasant Town home. After all his farm animals died and weird things happened around town he was suspected of killing his animals in a weird cult-like way. Demanding he be let loose, and that the town was crazy and out to get him because he is the wealthiest farmer. Insisting his competition killed his livestock and not him.”
My eyes couldn’t believe what I was reading…this was pretty recent honestly. This was happening around the time my grandparents were young children… I printed those news clippings out along with many other clippings of his arrest, his release and his disappearance…..
Adding them to my binder as I finished my pizza. This was so insane to me, and this would make a great conversation with professor Wayne after my studies.
I opened up my email and decided to email my professor.
Hello Professor Wayne! I hope your summer treats you well. In about three days I am off to study the lost town of Pleasant Town Oklahoma. That folder of information you gave me has grown into two large binders, and I found more information today. Down below you’ll find links to news articles dating back to the 50’s about weird cult animal killings! I think you’d find it fascinating! I’d like to update you here and there through my three month stay, and then maybe when I get back we can discuss all my findings over lunch! Thank you for your time! Hope to talk to you soon. -Sincerely, Y/N Y/L/N
Two days later I was all packed up into my car. About four large luggage and two duffel bags…. I was well prepared to say the least. Saying bye to my family and friends I began my venture to Pleasant Town.
My venture was a full day, and I made sure I counted for gas breaks, nap breaks and food breaks to make sure I got to Mr. Smithson at 12 on the dot.
June 1st 11:25 am- 35 min ETA Pleasant Town Gas Station
I was coming across the entrance to the town. I was jamming out to SZA, bobbing my head I looked over to my right smiling as I read the sign
“Welcome to Helltown….once you get in you’ll never get out!” It read
My smiled dropped, I snatched my sunglasses off my face and turned the radio down….. a cold sweat began to form on my back as I looked in the rear view mirror
What the fuck was that? I was becoming increasingly anxious and wondered if I just made the worst mistake of my life. I rubbed my lips together in anxiety as I gripped onto the steering wheel harder.
I chose to shake it off, there has to be a logical explanation for this I thought to myself. Putting my sunglasses back on, I turned my music up a little bit and continued down the silent road.
My map told me 1 minute, and slowly I pulled up to a very old and very dusty gas station. Coming to a stop as the gravel left a smoke trail ahead of my car.
I put the car in park and hopped out, stretching my back and cracking my neck. Suddenly an old man hopped out of his large red truck. Spitting tobacco on the ground as he waddled over
“You, young lady must be Y/N?” He asks as he sucks the tobacco
“Yes sir I am” I state as I smile and place my hand out to shake his
Looking down as he smacks his lips, he firmly shakes my hands.
“Good to met ya, welcome to Pleasant Town” he states coughing
“Thank you Mr. Smithson” I state smiling once again
“Well uhh” he states smiling at me
“Oh right” I say, eyes going wide as I walk over to the passenger side. Grabbing the envelope with all the money in it.
“Here you go, $2,400 cash” I state handing the envelope over to him
He grabs the envelope and takes the money out, beginning to count it
“300,400,500-“ he says flying through the money
“Uhh what’s with the welcome sign saying welcome to Helltown? Once you get in you’ll never get out?” I ask pointing over my shoulder
He immediately stops counting, sucks his teeth and looks up at me through his lashes
“Idiot teenagers who have nothing better to do than destroy property that isn’t theirs” he states as he goes back to counting
“Oh…” I state rocking back and forth on my heels
“Alright it’s all here! Thank you sweetheart. I’ll drive you to your house just follow behind me” he states stuffing the money back in the envelope
“Thank you sir” I state as he turns and walks back to his truck
I hop in mine and wait for him to go, following closely behind him I take in the surroundings. Trees, dirty roads, corn fields, farm houses, large stacks of hay and pretty decent sized homes. They were just super outdated.
It was only about a 15 minute drive, but man it felt like forever. I’d hate to get stuck with no gas on a road like this.
Pulling up to the house he pulls onto the gravel driveway as I do too. We both hop out and we walk towards the house. We walk up the steps and wait on the front porch as he digs around for the keys.
Looking around I take in the surroundings, there’s quite a bit of farms around here…. My thoughts are interrupted when he finds the keys and opens the door. Allowing me to walk in first
“I had my crew clean up the place for you” he states shutting the door
“Oh, do you own a cleaning company?” I ask looking at him
“No.. I get these young boys out here to do what needs to be done around these parts” he states bluntly
“Oh the young teenagers who mess around” I say laughing
“No, I send those boys to work the corn fields…. The older men do the hard work round here. The cleaning, the lifting, the shootin” he says sucking the tobacco
“Shooting?” I ask as I turn to face him
“Yup they shoot the ones for my man down under” he states looking me dead in my eyes
“What?” I ask as I began to get nervous
“Oh I’m sorry sweetheart I must be confusing you, you see my dad loved to hunt but he’s too old now and lives in my basement. He has me send out the young men to shoot for him and bring him back some animals” he states chuckling
“Ohhhh yeah” I say laughing awkwardly
“Well young lady this is your home now” he says handing me the keys.
“Thank you” I say meekly
“You got your dining room, living room, and kitchen all down here fully furnished as you can see. Bathroom down here one upstairs and both bedrooms upstairs. Oh uhh I’d suggest food shopping early in the day, you don’t want to be out late at night around here….that is due to the wild animals of course like bears and coyotes” he states looking at me
“Of course” I say nodding politely
“Make sure you lock your doors at night. Especially the back door….. animals in the kitchen are never a good thing” he says turning around to head to the front door
“Got it” I state
“And uhhh we’re a family here….youre house is my home….or whatever the saying is….my house is your house….ah you know what I mean” he says shaking his head
We bid our goodbye and I watched him drive off. My hairs on the back of my neck are standing up. This whole conversation was making me nervous and uneasy. One other thing I realized was I’d be having no WiFi here. However my phone had 5G and the service wasn’t awful here shockingly….. I immediately sent an email back to Professor Wayne
“Just got here! The house is actually super nice. It's very historical and artsy. The realtor is a total creep though. His name is Beaufort so that explains a lot! He said some weird things and made weird analogies. Making it seem like beyond the naked eye there’s more to this town…. I’ll keep you posted”
I hit send and slid my phone back into my pocket. I placed the keys in my front pocket and walked outside. The warm sun kissed my skin as I squinted. Walking over to my car I popped the trunk and began to take my luggage’s out.
Suddenly I felt like there were eyes on me. The way the area got super quiet. So quiet you could hear a pin drop. I looked over my shoulder in the least scared way possible. There was nobody there. I rubbed my forehead and let out a breath.
“Y/N relax” I whispered to myself as I took my last luggage out
However unbeknownst to Y/N, she was in fact being watched. A young man on the second floor of his parents house. He stood in his room peering at the young woman through his sheer curtains.
His gaze was dull as he stared out the window, sweat trickled down his forehead, his mouth hung open slightly and his breathing became deep. His fingers swirled and tugged at his red flannel.
She was like out of a movie. He had never seen a woman like that down here. Those are the ones his mom warned him about. The type who didn’t like boys like him, the type he should….hate. However when he looked at her he couldn’t hate her….she seemed precious….precious just like his horse Bertha.
“Young Man! What did I tell you about standing at that window” he heard from behind him, he jilted and turned around
“I’m sorry mama…I wasn’t doin nuffin” he states as he looks at her
“It is not polite to stare at people you aren’t a child anymore. You don’t do that” she says to him
“I wasn’t looking I swear” he says with pleading eyes
“Well you go on now. Your father and I are leaving for the afternoon” she says to the boy
After his mom leaves he pears out his window again. The young woman had stopped to talk on the phone. He was so fascinated by her he simply couldn’t look away.
I hung up the phone after saying bye to my mom and pulled out my second luggage. Rolling it into my house and coming back out to get my third luggage. I huffed out a breath of air and wiped the sweat off my forehead
I leaned over to get the third luggage but it was stuck on something. I sucked my teeth and began to tug on the handle harder.
“Need a hand ma’am?” I heard from behind me
“OH SHIT” I yelled turning around and grabbing my heart
“Oh im sorry darling I didn’t mean to scare you” the young man states backing up a bit
“No it’s okay, I’m new to town so I’m a bit jumpy” I state shaking my head
“My apologies for sneaking up behind you, may I help you?” He asks looking at my trunk
“Yeah please that would be great” I say smiling as I tried to control my breathing
The young man grabs both of my luggages for me and I grab my duffel bags. We walk to the house and he leads the way to my other two luggage’s.
“Thank you so much” I say placing my bags on the couch
“My pleasure sweetheart” he says nodding his head
“I’m Y/N” I say sticking my hand out
“I’m Matthew, but I go by Matt” he says wiping his forehead with the inside of his shirt. The shirt lifted just enough for me to get a perfect view of his lower stomach.
Damn…why were the shit kickers in a creepy town always so hot…. I guess the movies aren’t wrong..
“Well Matt thank you once again, can I offer you some water?” I ask him
“Water would be nice” he says smiling a bright smile
We walked to the kitchen and I found some old glasses left behind. I rinsed it with water and then gave him some water from the sink.
He drank the full cup, allowing the water to dribble down his chin and to his neck. My gaze ever so slightly following the head of water.
“So, what brings you to this part of town darling?” He asks, his accent so thick I couldn’t even focus
“I come from a busy town and I’ve always wanted to move to a small rural area. Pleasant Town seemed just right” I state licking my lips
“Once you see what this towns like you’ll go running for the hills” he says smirking darkly
“What do you mean by that?” I asked clearing my throat
“Well we hunt, we drink beer til we’re piss drunk and race in old cars for fun, we sneak into farms at night and tip over the sleeping cows…. Amongst many other things” he states handing the glass back over to me
“Oh that’s nothing compared to where I’m from” I say placing the glass in the sink
“And that is?” He asks crossing his legs as he leaned against the wall
“Las Vegas Nevada” I state nodding
“Never been” he states
“You should visit one day” I say
“If I ever leave this town” he states swallowing thickly
“If you ever leave?” I question once again
“Well you know this place is home I don’t know how I’d do in a big place like that” he says smiling at me
“I suppose you guys are pretty far behind on a lot” I say giggling
“Oh trust me aren’t we all” he says kicking himself off the wall
“Well uh thank you so much Matt I don’t mean to keep you” I say to him as I begin to walk out the kitchen
“Oh no worries darlin” he says as he follows behind me his thick cowboy boots hitting the wood in all the right places
He opened my front door and began to head out
“I’ll see you around neighbor” I state to him
“See you around, oh and if you ever feel like there’s eyes on you….that's because there is….you know small town haha we can’t escape each other” he says coldly before adding a laugh at the end
“Right…right” I state smiling at him and blinking quickly
I watch him walk across the street and head into the home. I lock my car doors and shut my front door. Locking the door before walking to the kitchen back door, locking that one as well.
I spent the rest of the day sweeping up, cleaning and setting up my room. I hadn’t realized how late it gotten or how hungry I was till my stomach growling woke me up from a small Power Nap.
I got up and realized it was 8pm, I wasn’t sure what food stores would be open, but it was worth the try. Ignoring the warning not to go out at night I grabbed my house keys and car keys.
Locking the front door, I got into my car. Turning it on I put it in reverse. I looked over my right shoulder and when I went to look over my left Matt was there and had banged on my window.
I jumped out of my skin and hit the breaks. Rolling my window down I was breathing heavy
“Sorry sweetie” he says as he looks down at me
“Is there something I can do for you?” I asked him genuinely curious
“Oh me? No no, but you, you shouldn’t be out at this hour” he states
“It’s 8pm though?” I say furrowing my brows
“Yeah well the bears and coyotes come out this time” he says tapping the hood of my car
“I’m just running to the local store” I say
“You shouldn’t be out at this hour” he says again a bit firmer
“Umm okay” I say to him, remember what Professor Wayne said “no enemies this isn’t my turf”
I placed the car back in park and got out. Shutting the door and locking it I looked at Matt, a shot gun in his right hand as my eyes darted up.
“Don’t worry darling this ain’t nothing special. I use this to hunt” he says to me as he moves the gun back a bit
“For uhh Mr. Smithson’s dad?” I ask as my eyes slowly track up to his
“Oh no I do a different type of hunting for him” he says clearing his throat
“Do you now” I say rocking on my heels
“I get the animals causing issues for us here, the ones eating up all our crops. We can’t have those round these parts” he states chuckling
“Yeah…yeah bad for business. I’m going to head in for the night then” I say pointing behind myself
“Well alright now! You have a great night” he says in a whisper while offering me a smile
I smile back before turning in my heels and heading back into the house. Locking the door immediately as I run up the stairs.
I decided to shower and eat some leftover snacks. By this point it was midnight and I decided to brush my teeth so I could lay down for the night.
Shutting the bathroom light off I walk into my dark room using the brightness of my screen to lead me to my bed. Shutting my bedroom door behind me I trot over to my bed. However something in my peripheral view catches my eye.
Through the little dent in the Venetian blinds I see a light on in the house across the street from me. Slowly walking over to the window I peak out the small dent and look across the street.
All I can see is the silhouette of a skinny man with a shotgun in hand standing at the window. Almost like he’s staring out the window….
Suddenly he slides out of view and the light goes out, but I stay looking and I get an uneasy feeling. It’s like he’s still by the window…hiding in the shadows…watching….waiting….
I scared myself by doing this, so I backed away from the window and decided to lay down. Listening to my heart thump in my ears as I focused on controlling my breathing. My mind was racing because I was so nervous about this town and whether or not I made the right decision…..
I attempted to clear my mind and doze off to sleep. I knew I had a full day of adventures the following day especially since I needed to find a supermarket of some sort here!
The End…. For now
Alright guys I know I’ve been GONE, but it feels good to be back! I hope you enjoyed this part. Can’t wait to start working on part 2 shortly 🤭🖤 we’re at 2,009 followers! I love yall soooo much 🥺

sonic movie 3 review
okay let’s discuss the major changes they made in this movie
gerald is alive and well: instead of execution, gerald was simply imprisoned for the past 50 years. he’s 110 and they don’t explain why he’s still alive. assumingly it’s because of shadow’s quill but they don’t actually explain it. he manages to vie for freedom by completeing the eclipse canon schematics for GUN to build. but gerald is very much alive and a very large, active player in this movie
Maria’s death: a GUN soldier does not shoot her. an accident during the shut down of the project shadow causes chaos energy to explode. maria is killed in the explosion. gerald, who was in the blast and roughly the same distance as maria, inexplicably lives. they don’t explain that. but the takeaway is 1) maria dies from an accident 2) she doesn’t even die trying to save shadow. worth noting there’s also no “sayonara shadow the hedgehog”
shadows backstory: shadow was NOT created by Gerald robotnik. a meteor crashed into earth and he was inside. the scientists were researching him as a power source. he is again 1) not created by Gerald 2) NOT a cure for maria. maria probably isn’t even sick they make no reference to it gerald just likes having her around apparently
the final story: ok where to start. 1) there is no space colony ark. shadow and maria and gerald are in some sort of underground military base and that’s where every thing happened- no ark. 2) there is NO biolizard/final hazard. he’s referenced one time as a Godzilla rip off and that’s it since gerald don’t make shadow. 3) the big final issue is that gerald set the eclipse cannon to destroy earth. Sonic and shadow manage to divert the cannon fire. however, the eclipse cannon’s power core becomes destabilized and if it blows, it’ll decimate the atmosphere of earth. Sonic fell from space during them pushing the laser away from the earth so shadow is the one who pushes the eclipse cannon far away from earth while eggman stabilized it long enough for shadow to do that. the cannon blows up and eggman and shadow are presumed dead.
there is no chaos control: shadow uses it like a handful of times during the initial team sonic fight and then it’s not really used ever again. they don’t chaos control the eclipse cannon they just push it around. no fake emerald either.
the moon being destroyed: is an accident. while they’re trying to divert the laser from hitting the earth they accidentally hit the moon. it is not an intentional show of power from eggman, it’s just an accident.
i think those are maybe the BIGGEST changes. obviously no rouge either. they also treat the GUN commander as a good guy who dies Heroically.
one of the other big differences is that there’s a super sonic & shadow fight. shadow critically injured tom by accident and sonic uses the chaos emeralds to turn super to fight shadow over it. sonic eventually decides to not get his revenge, and his resolve in his own character inspires shadow to help him stop Gerald’s plan of destroying the earth.
i think I’ll just break this into pros and cons
pros:
this was definitely better paced than the previous two movies. it felt a lot more like a sonic adventure
tails and knuckles have a meaningful role to play and aren’t completely shoved aside
i think they handled shadow vs sonic fights relatively well? im still not impressed by them not entirely being seen as equals but he’s not ridiculously overpowered, sonic manages to do a good job against him.
cons:
WAY TOO DIVERGENT FROM THE GAMES. they made so many unnecessary changes. shadow’s backstory is just an entirely different character
the gerald/eggman b-plot was actually unbearable. firstly i despise jim carrey as eggman so he was also never going to be good as gerald. it’s just slapstick everytime they’re on screen together and it’s SO dissonant to the shadow & sonic storyline it’s actually unbearable to watch.
incredibly stupid how they tied eggman to the major plot they very easily could have kept him releasing shadow
they just made no effort to explain anything about gerald. why is he still alive. how did he survive when maria didn’t. like if you’re going to change up your adapation you need to explain WHY and HOW this happened.
honestly im not super impressed with sonic’s revenge plot because shadow and sonic could have easily been tied together by the fact they both lost someone (maria and longclaw). i think it probably doesn’t help that i don’t like tom. also im not usually interested in revenge when the person isn’t even killed? tom still lives and isn’t even like…. permanently injured or something from shadow. so it looses its value to me in that way. i think sonic’s inability to work with a team also doesn’t make a whole lot of sense given sonic 2 and him working with maddie and Tom before. like i understand he has isolation issues but it’s been expressed that these movies have taken place over YEARS so this doesn’t feel like an entirely reasonable arc
all in all i think this is a 5/10. if i didn’t have any knowledge of sonic it could maybe be passable. but the gerald and eggman routine is genuinely unbearable when the movies tried to hit on some deeper levels and themes.

From Blood births Life and Death - Chapter 8
Failure? I hardly know her.
Word count: 3,015
MASTERPOST
Failure. It was something Sadie ‘Junior’ Howard had never tried, but its taste was bitter and awful to her senses. That’s a far too poetic way to describe what she was feeling at that moment. Let’s say the immediate thought was something more like “HOLY SHIT, I FUCKED UP MORE THAT I THOUGHT WAS ACTUALLY POSSIBLE”
How full of yourself must you have to be to think failure is something impossible? It’s something weird for a common person, but Sadie Howard was raised like this. the perfect child of the perfect mother, the perfect student, straight A’s, the first ranked in the military academy for five years straight, and now, perfect protegè of the second most important official in one of the most important projects in the whole USA.
That’s a lot of stuff. If we say it like that, Junior could be utterly enviable, but reality is often painfully different from what appears to our eyes. Only because you appear as immune to failure, it doesn't mean you actually are. And Sadie Howard had to feel such realization like lightning striking directly on the top of her head.
She often moved from one base to another, following General Higgs like a shadow, having her hands in every special mission, and this time it wasn’t any different, she believed. She remembered the General’s words.
“It’s no different from a mission I would assign to the research squad.” Higgs said, putting out the cigarette on some spare papers and brushing away the ash with his fingers. “I’m not asking to interrogate that kid. Just bring those files back and his DNA to keep him under track.” He continued, his tone strangely calm, despite Sadie could feel it hid something deeper. “Safety measures. As I said, nothing more than a research unit couldn’t do.”
“Then why not give it to them - Sadie retorted, feeling her pride sting a bit. - Erickson unit, maybe? They’re good.”
He raised his eyebrows, looking at her from his thin sunglasses, as if she asked the most obvious question in the world.
“Junior, - he began, his tone sharpening - Have you got any idea of who Maya Strauss is?” He asked, leaning forward, resting his elbows on the table as his icy gaze never left the young soldier.
“Yes, sir.”
“Those fanatics would do anything—anything—to keep from accepting his replacement.” His words came fast, rising in both pitch and volume as he raked a hand through his hair. “And the last thing we need is some little girl running around, committing crimes against her own kind just to prove her stupid conspiracies are true!”
Higgs spun toward her abruptly, the sunglasses in his hand now gripped so tightly his knuckles turned white. Sadie swallowed hard. The sting of pride that had initially risen in her chest was now being overtaken by a growing knot of anxiety.
“So, sir,” she tried to interject, “You’re saying the giant… isn’t the main problem?”
Her attempt to summarize his point only seemed to reignite his anger.
“He will be if Maya Strauss decides he is!” Higgs barked, “And the only way to find out is to keep him under track—that’s what I’m saying!”
Sadie opened her mouth to interject, but he wasn’t done.
“So, Junior,” he snarled, leaning closer, “if I were you, I wouldn’t waste another second questioning why this apparently simple but critically important operation is being assigned to the best of my soldiers.” He slammed his fist against the table. “We need this problem solved now so it doesn’t come back to bother us later. Got it?”
Sadie nodded, looking at her side, now fidgeting with her hands nervously. She’d be surprised, maybe taken aback by his reaction if he wasn’t… well, if he wasn’t Scott Higgs. After nine years of being under his wing, she learnt to accept every small piece of his attitude, whether she liked it or not.
“Fuck Strauss - Higgs muttered, rubbing the bridge of his nose and adjusting back his glasses, his tone lowering to a sharp whisper, laced with something close to exasperation, yet with a tip of pure disdain. - “Him and his messed up crap. Assigning this whole project to him was a mistake from the start. Look what I have to deal with now…” He continued, his words rushing as his tone was now almost above a whisper, as if he was talking to himself. He indeed almost forgot about Sadie’s presence.
She tilted his head, staring at the General while he kept on with his speech.
“Go, Junior. You are dismissed. - he said, gesturing vaguely at her and pointing towards the door. - Get prepared for the mission, and don’t fuck anything up.”
Sadie stood up immediately, nodded, bowed slightly and walked stiffly out of the meeting room, which despite its name, was being used by only them two.
As she reached the hallway, she exhaled a sigh of relief. She adjusted a strand of hair and dried some of the dripping sweat from her forehead. Even if she wasn’t surprised by the General’s reactions, they still definitely left some impact on her every time.
The way he dismissed her, replied harshly… It wasn’t really the way a mentor would teach to his perfect apprentice. She didn’t care, anyways. The important thing was that Scott managed to give her the success her mother wanted. And fuck yeah, it was working. Screw the methods he used. After all, the end justifies the means.
-
The evening breeze was slightly ruffling her neatly tied hair as she made her way out of the jeep, stepping right before the border. The sun was about to dip below the horizon, yet the rustling of distant voices and life from the village was still audible. She adjusted her uniform, double checking the grappling hook and the systems attached to her belt. It wasn’t her first solo mission, and it wasn’t the first time she entered the village, but it was the first time she entered the village alone, by herself.
If the giant Maya interacted with knew something about humans, it was crucial to limit the number of men acting in the mission. She understood that but she wasn’t particularly scared about the matter. For what it meant, even if he was a giant, he was simply a kid, who was probably clueless about most things, even if Maya decided to talk. She would have ended the situation by bringing back those darn documents.
“See you tomorrow at the headquarters, Junior.” The man who sat in the driver’s seat said, setting the jeep’s engine on again.
Sadie just nodded, as usual, and after she adjusted the rifle slung over her shoulder. Luckily, the place she needed to head to wasn’t far. She checked the map again as she made her way out of the quiet forest, her small frame almost invisible through the dense underbrush.
-
Her eyes widened for a brief moment as she tilted her head back, scanning the towering structure before her. It might have been an ordinary home by giant standards, but to her, it was more than immense. She quickly narrowed her gaze, brushing aside her initial shock. She couldn’t afford distractions. Taking a deep breath, she steadied her focus and swung her grappling hook upward. The metal anchor caught onto the lip of a windowsill, and she lifted herself up, her boots landing silently on the narrow ledge.
The glass was faintly fogged. Sadie leaned forward, careful to keep herself hidden behind the leafy ferns in the planter that lined the sill. Peering through a gap in the foliage, she peeked inside. The room was quite modest—simple furnishings, no obvious signs of wealth or luxury. More importantly, it was quiet. Still. Empty. Her lips curved into a faint grin. This might turn out to be easier than she expected, she thought.
Wasting no time, Sadie secured her grappling hook and climbed down to the base of the door. The gap beneath it was just wide enough for her to slip through. Flattening herself against the floor, she slid under the door and rolled onto her feet on the other side. She surveyed her surroundings, her trained eyes taking in every detail of the room.
The faint crackling of the fireplace broke the silence. A few cushions were scattered near the hearth, accompanied by a few books that lay scattered on the ground. On a chair nearby, some shirts were tossed carelessly, as if someone had changed in a hurry. The table stood not far away. It was mostly empty, save for a quill, and a sheet of paper with frayed edges, some of the ink from the inkwell dripping on the wooden surface.
Sadie’s eyes narrowed as she approached the table. Her grappling hook made short work of the climb, and she perched on the edge. The piece of paper was her first target. If the boy who lived here was connected to Maya Strauss, there might be something incriminating written on it. Her fingers brushed the paper as she quickly read the text, the faint smudges of ink forcing her to focus harder.
She was slightly disappointed when she realized it was just a record from the local library. It mentioned book titles, due dates, and fines but revealed nothing that could help her cause. She sighed softly, looking around as to think where to continue investigating. Still, it wasn’t a complete loss. Even if it wasn’t Maya-related, it gave her a hint into the life of her target—his habits, his routines. That might have been valuable intel.
She stepped away from the paper and paced to the table’s edge, her mind turning over a new question. She had to connect some DNA, but if he wasn’t here, how was she supposed to do it? Her gaze swept the room below, searching for anything that could serve her purpose. Then, her eyes landed on the pile of shirts draped over the chair. She remembered some notions from her forensic studies - DNA can be extracted from fibers of a piece of clothing, but still, she had no certainty it could work. The shirt should have been recently worn for her plan to work. As she looked towards them, still searching for a solution, she noticed a faint blood stain on one of the sleeves. A small grin tugged again at the corners of her lips. The answer was obvious.
All she needed was a single piece of the cloth smudged with blood, nothing fancy, it would have been enough, and most of all, she could leave without any risk of being spotted.
DNA? She collected it.
The stolen documents were the next step.
Of course it wasn’t a matter of fact that Maya had left them there, so more than retrieving them it was checking if they were actually there in the first place.
She looked around, trying to find something - anything - that could lead her to an actual result. Bringing them back would have satisfied Higgs more, and the problem would have been solved. Not bringing them back, however, would have meant a way more complex outcome, multiple operations, and further delay for the whole project. And it was the last time she wanted, especially given the fact it was her who was leading this operation.
She scanned the room, her gaze landing on the nightstand standing before the bed. There was an unlit candle placed on it next to some other books, and right beneath, a drawer was left open. Her eyes narrowed, and she launched her grappling hook landing on the drawer’s edge. She knelt down to steady her already precarious position, her heels wobbling on the edge, and peeked inside. At first, nothing special. Some trinkets, a handful of coins, a few more folded papers and…
Her eyes landed on a small bump near the folded sheets, and she slid inside the drawer swiftly, her boots landing firmly on its bottom. She moved one of the coins and lifted the paper, revealing a bag. A small bag. Too small to be possessed by anyone who lived there.
Bingo.
Sadie quickly picked up the unmistakably human bag, examining it from end to end. She opened it frantically, her hands ravaging inside it. She felt adrenaline surge through her - if she found the documents, the mission was already over. Quick, precise, perfect. Just like her. Just like Higgs wanted. Just like her mother wanted.
She flipped the bag’s contents on the bottom of the drawer, each one of them falling with a soft thud on the wooden surface. She scrambled to her knees, analyzing each one. The young soldier’s eyes widened as she scanned the objects beneath, her eyes glimmering with both surprise and defiance. An old looking camera, a stolen gun, - Maya really managed to steal a weapon? Even Sadie was surprised by that kid. - a small knife, spare parts for a grappling hook, and, last but not least, a suspiciously wrinkled but still recognisable folder. Fuck yes, the documents.
She grabbed the folder, opening it to examine its content. She ran her fingers through the wrinkled sheets, and as soon as she caught a glimpse of the name “Dr. Friedrich Strauss” on one of the pages, she knew she had the treasure in her hands. She grinned, holding the folder close to her chest as she inhaled deeply, then quickly took her backpack off her shoulders and neatly shoved the folder inside, making sure it was well protected. Looking back at the rest of the objects, she thought that maybe whoever interacted with Maya may have known about the bag’s presence - almost certainly - so she thought that leaving it where she found it would have been the most reasonable thing to do. She had to leave no trace of her unknown little visit. She knelt down, double checking the objects left on the ground before putting them back into the yellow bag. As she was about to put the camera, the last object, in, something startled her.
She heard a faint noise. A click. More precisely, the click of a door being opened by a key.
Her stomach dropped at the sudden realization. She quickly hopped back onto the nightstand, hiding herself between the thick stack of books. She looked up at the nearest window, already trying to make up an escape plan. She was fairly hidden, she thought, he wouldn’t have seen her sneaking out. Still, despite her trying to convince herself, her heart hammered in her chest furiously. Entering the village was one thing, but being this close to being seen by a giant- hell fucking no.
She tightened her grip around her rifle, clutching it like a lifeline. She pressed her back against the makeshift wall of books, her ragged breathing increasing in frequency as she heard the sound of footsteps echoing in the room, and the fact that uneased her the most was that they sounded eerily close. She wanted to peek out, but her senses kept her clutched behind her hiding spot. She wouldn’t dare. Even if she kept looking up at the window as it was the only gateway to safety, she couldn’t escape if she didn’t know what he was doing first. He needed to be distracted, or else, he would certainly spot her. She gulped, trying to ease her ragged breaths, now slapping away the hesitation.
Fuck, Sadie Howard, you’re a soldier. - she reminded herself. - The best soldier. Pull it together. You’re supposed to kill giants if it’s necessary, damn, not to be a scaredy cat. And if this overgrown bastard catches you, you'll kill him too.
She got up slowly, her gaze narrowing as she slowly raised to a crouch. Step by step, she edged closer to the gap between the books, her boots silent against the wood. She turned her head, not much, just enough to catch the slightest glimpse of what the boy was doing.
He was facing away, adjusting his tangled dark blonde hair. She could hear a faint yawn, and a few more footsteps as he walked closer to the table. He looked down, his shoulders slightly hunched as he stared right at the paper and quill she examined later. His gaze remained fixed there for a few seconds, scanning the document again. Was he reading it again, checking it? Sadie couldn’t care less. She just wanted him to be distracted so she could escape.
Her gaze remained fixed on his figure, not hinting to move or do anything soon, lost in concentration. She slowly got up, now standing in a straight posture but still hidden by the thick stack of books.
She made a few slow, cautious steps towards the edge, each one making her feel closer to freedom, her gaze never leaving him.
Suddenly, the boy’s head snapped up, and Sadie’s heart skipped a beat. She hid herself behind the books again, as she heard the creaking of a chair sliding against the wooden floor.
“Hmm?”
The sudden voice sent a chill down her spine. Had he noticed something? What was he doing now? Oh fuck, this isn’t going to end well.
She cursed under her breath, trying to stay as still as possible, despite her body was desperate to flinch.
What had he seen? Was it her? Or was she imagining his suspicion?
Footsteps again, the sound now close as hell.
She could feel her own heart beating so hard she was afraid even the giant was able to hear it, and she ducked her head further.
Not long passed before she heard the footsteps stop. Sadie barely allowed herself to breathe, a single shallow gasp slipping through her lips. Maybe he had turned away.
Maybe—
She realized it was too early to be relieved.
She felt the firm wall of books that shielded her being pulled away from her.
She was sure as hell her heart had stopped beating. She craned her neck slowly, painfully slowly as time seemed to stretch, her body trembling as she forced herself to look up.
And then, her gaze met his.

SONIC 3 THEORY; SHADOW WAS MADE ON EARTH
After rewatching the trailer over and over and overanalyzing every screenshot. I think I have a fair assumption that Shadow was not made on the Ark. In fact, I doubt the Ark existed in the Movie universe until Sonic's time.
Crazy theory time is a go,
Why do I think Shadow was made on Earth?
1. Trailer backgrounds.
We see three scenes with Shadow's test tube. One where it stands intact, and two where it is seen broken. In the scene where its intact, its harder to tell where its located, with just machinery and darkness as a backdrop. Which easily could have mislead us to thinking this is the Ark.
Tumblr media
But when its the broken one scenes, we can see first in its reflection what looks like an old railing. Its is very faint in my screenshots but if you give it a look on bigger screens its a bit more visible.
Tumblr media
The railing is more fitting of a 70s house railing than a space station's. Unless Gerald made his quarters look like a house, a possibility.
But. In the second scene where Shadow punches forward, this very same broken test tube is seen, and the lightsource is now clear to us. Its a hole in the background wall. This hole is clearly either damage from a fight, or a natural collapse. But whats for sure is that the location is on earth, as overgrowth can be seen through the debris and around the broken wall.
Tumblr media
Now this can be bounced back as maybe a secondary location to hold Shadow to have further testing when Gerald was contained and brought back to earth. But. We also have to think of another detail.
2. The Era
Gerald's story is set 50 years ago on our earth, our world. Gerald was not a roboticist, but more a biological scientist, and in that era, they had very rudimental space exploration shuttles, like the Apollo missions. I highly doubt a ship the size of the Ark was made during that time, and that the military had advanced enough ships to raid said Ark and return to earth without a risk. We could say the same with the technology used to create Shadow being way too advanved for its era, which honestly is true.
To me the interesting part is the Ark seems to have been contained in a G.U.N stronghold, as we see what I assume is the Ark emerge from the waters in London.
Tumblr media
As far as we know, G.U.N was only created recently, as the second movie indicates, so they couldn't have been in possession of such a gigantic asset for a long time. Unless the military was the one in possession of it and transfered to G.U.N when they were wipping their database from Robotnik's info. Maybe it was found after? Maybe Eggman made it? Wtf's it doing in LONDON? Changing its location alone would be impossible for how big it is... Many ideas could explain this but my theories have nothing solid for the small bits of content shown...
But either or, the last piece of proof I have is.
3. Maria's death scene
Not much is seen in that one shot, but it speaks for a lot.
Tumblr media
In this scene, clearly the area has been raided, there is military, but the background also has hint details for us. We can see a flipped over car in the corner. There is also possibly a military car/jeep seen in the other corner burning. They may be in an underground area long enough to use cars, like a tunnel? Part of a military base? Sadly the amount of smoke doesnt make it easy to figure out whats behind them, and even whats on the ground. Though i just feel like it doesnt really look like the Ark to me.
With that in mind we also have to remember that this is not a note for note retelling of SA 2. Clearly something like the Ark will appear as seen behind Tails in that one shot.
Tumblr media
But I theorize it was made later. Gerald, if alive or not, is seen with Eggman tech in his old home, probably for research purposes to better understand his grandson's mechanical genius, and maybe to recruit him to build or perfect the Ark project? Clearly in this scene Eggman seems surprised to see his tech there...
Tumblr media
About Gerald, its hard to know if he is truly alive or not. To me two options are possible. Either Eggman is hallucinating tf out after either being knocked out or something of the like, meeting his grandfather and it goes into a spiral of insanity.
Or.
Gerald completed his research that he had first aimed for with the existence of Project Shadow. Immortality. the detail that makes me wonder if we will go that path, is during Maria's death scene, Gerald looks the same age as when he's seen interacting with Eggman. His white mustache and body stance is exactly the same, and we would have expected a lot more wrinkles and showing bones if the man was almost 130 years old.
Another detail into question;
If Shadow was made on Earth, what kind of sickness does Maria have? An interesting detail I did notice from all the shots that clearly belong to Gerald's home, is that its absolutely dark. No windows are seen, and the type of debris and breaks seen on the walls feel like it was made of concrete. Which makes me think that possibly, his home was a bunker. Hidden in the alps somewhere, so he could work on his research in secret, but also keep Maria safe.
An interesting twist for her character to not have experienced earth, would be if she had a type of illness that renders her Immuno-compromised to the point of it being fatal, or maybe a reaction so intense to the sun or even simply the air up on the surface being dangerous for her. She could only dream of the world outside as she is not allowed to leave the bunker to see it. It would bring a similar narrative to her and Shadow watching the earth from space!
Anyways I digress, I don't claim anything I've said to be solid truth. Ive just been digging the trailer and turning it in my brain in every possible direction that I had to post my ramblings somewhere, or else I would have gone insane. This will eat at me for the next months until the release, or a more detailed preview is posted. Enjoy the brainworms yippeeeee ♡♡♡
Also please if you have seen bits and pieces of the leaked unfinished cut please dont tell me about it Ive ran into 4 different mini spoilers and I'm still mad about it :)))

Could you write a little bit more about hierarchy in wolf pack in your universe? How it works? I'm more familiar with calling wolves as 'alfa', 'beta' etc. What does it mean, being 'second' in pack? It's like vice-leader? Does second have to...you know, dominate another members of the pack, or it's more... hm, fluent? There are another functions, too?
Heh, of course i'm wondering because of possible new dynamics with Rip on the board 🧐
But also because I simply love exploring your created universe. c:
And of course you dont have to answer, if you wanted to clarify it in forthcoming chapters ;)
That is a very good question, nonny :D
Typically packs don't have that many set-up positions. There is the leader, his second, the leading witch and the executioner (executes the leader's will). Then there are their partners. Factions in big packs are usually build the same way.
Otherwise the positions are a lot more fluid and usually work as gatherings of alliances/factions (eg. when a larger pack takes in a smaller one) and groupings by specialiazed tasks (people that like/are experts on a similar thing). Like a trios/quartets with a mix of wolves/witches/humans that focus on protection, healing, finances, socialisation with other packs, tracking,...
It largly depends on what the pack specialty is. Some focus on human based professions for wolves like healers/trainers, some on getting money from their human members' professions, some manage property gathered over generations. Some are small and diverse. Some are large and traditional. Some focus more on favours/services for the shadow wolf community like tracking and information gathering. Some more on the human community aspect like dealing with the police, lawyers, laws, medicine, rights etc.
These usually come up in larger packs, that's why our small Sonder pack of three doesn't really have it. There is leader, leading witch (that is usually the leader's partner, so that fits) and leader's second. There is no executioner and no focused subgroups for anything. They also don't have a united purpose as a pack for the community. Like no one comes to them for specific tasks or services they specialize in, since their strengths are so diverse. Isaiah has the most build diplomatic/negotiator role, contacts with human authorities and research and as trainer of shadows because of his great control. Seline avoids wolf and witch communities like a plague and focuses on her research career.
Matthew doesn't have a specialty aside fighting and provoking fights, has kind of a reputation with the street strays and unofficial fighting rings. Lately, he had been tagging along with Isaiah on his "missions" though.
Our little pack doesn't have a specific purpose. It would be easier to gather new wolves and get a place in the community if they did - but it would also be easier for them to focus on a common project. The positions and subgroups would depend on that.
Anyway, hierarchically, the closer you are to the leader, the higher you are. Different subgroups or alliances of similar power can rise and sink according to their usefulness and success rate.
Btw, one more thing that's important here is the distinction between executioner and Executioner. Every pack usually has an executioner who goes into the terrain to fulfill the leader's will. These two are usually very closely bound by trust and respect so that the leader can focus on strategies and the executioner can have a lot of free reign of how he goes about the tasks.
Small packs and packs with non-fighting specialisations often don't have an executioner of their own. That's why usually the executioners of the biggest packs in town collaborate to keep everyone protected.
An Executioner is an executioner with a small e that gets mixed up with other packs and territories and has proven himself to do it right. Other packs and their executioners can't dispute their interventions. They are distinct for doing things beneficial to everyone in the city, not just their own pack - handling strays, ferals, mad wolves, pup disputes, rival pack differences etc. They get respect by other packs for their decisions and therefore contacts. When it gets to the point they get called to cases or their assistance is requested, that's when they get to be called Executioners.
Executioners are fairly rare these days, and there's usually only one per city. Big Es are very influential and wouldn't take well to democratic decisions and teamwork. Defining traits are big shadows, excellent control, fighting prowess and fair and defendable actions. This is the kind of Executioner that people have in mind when they say the title. Executioners often choose their own successors - generally not from their own pack to keep neutral. They select them, they don't keep tabs or control if the candidate becomes this or not, only rarely being involved in the actual training. The title comes from the wolf packs and their behavior towards the the big E, not from anyone else.
That's why it's quite telling of Isaiah's role in the city. Isaiah was the executioner for the Wolfsons, became an Executioner during that time and people still call him one, even though he left the Wolfsons, does it his own way and refuses the title.
Thanks for the interest! Hope it makes sense and let me know if you have any other questions! :D

Crossover?
Tumblr media
Also, tell me everything about your AU. All of it. I want the lore...
Hell yeah! I'd love to do a crossover :D
As for the lore: there's a lot of it, and I changed it recently since I got more into the Sonic lore lol, it kinda started as a crack AU that got a little out of hand and now I am pretty passionate about it and draw it in my free time. I'll copy most of this from the Google doc I was keeping basic notes, though I would LOVE to elaborate on anything you want to hear more about- I'll add some art of her that I've made, though fair warning, I did change her design over time.
The most crude and basic timeline/overview is:
Maria gets injected with an experimental cure, later that day gets shot, but shadow isn't actually there to see her die, just get injured. Maria survives due to the black arms dna from shadow used in the experimental sample, though it morphs her into a more black arms esque form and puts her in a coma because of the severity of the injuries and her body trying to restructure itself rather than the intended slow replacement/mutation of her body and immune system.
GUN captures her once they realise they cant kill her, fucks around a little bit, unsure of what exactly to do with her as they don't have the resources or knowledge of those that were on the ARK, and they decide to attempt to research her to find out what the hell was going on with the black arms. It doesn't work all that much. Unable to use her for much of anything, and knowing that letting the kid wake up is probably a bad idea seeing what records they have of Shadow and that the serum was based off of him, they decide to just put her in stasis until they figure something out- she’s in a coma anyway, so what does it matter?
Years pass, this project becoming more and more obscure as different people retire or get promoted, Gun gets a little lax. Who even is this kid? Why should they care so much? It all comes to a head when a power outage takes place (sonic/shadow related or not) and she breaks out. Low staff, outdated security, she basically walks out of the joint in the chaos. They were planning on decommissioning that site soon anyway. It's quietly covered up, with search teams created but made of skeleton crews.
Maria figures out how to look normal- or at least as much as she can- and heads to a city, immediately realizing that she's not in her time anymore. She asks around, and eventually hears news of a hedgehog, though not the right color. Who knows, it's been 50 years, maybe he got a dye job. She follows the rumours until she finds sonic, greeting him before realizing his eyes are wrong and saying "ah, you're not shadow, are you?” Sonic, caught very off guard, confirms but asks why she's looking for him, and that he might be able to help.
Upon explaining herself, sonic abruptly realizes that this is a delicate ass situation and that maybe he needs backup on this. The crew puts all two of their braincells (both owned by tails) together and decide to just call rouge. She answers, realizes what happened, and gas to break the news to them that shadow just took a job and probably won't be contactable for a month or so. So maria just has to chill until then. Anyway, upon his return, shadow or the crew get into trouble, cue Maria wrecking shop in protectiveness (I think she should be just as protective of shadow as he is of her, they literally only had each other and the only reason she didn't start swinging before was the space AIDS). And then they get to have a very fun game of "try not to set Shadow off on a murder spree”.
Post that im not sure, I think she would stay with Shadow + Rouge but she's definitely friends with Sonic's team. Also: possible road trip plot line where she goes out to see the world with Shadow since she never got to before. Additionally: Maria can only look 100% fully human for a certain amount of time before her form shifts to black arms involuntarily, and Amy is the one who finds out and helps her deal with it when she's living with them.

Like I said, those are my most basic notes, and I promise it makes more sense and is phrased better when it's not the cliff notes version, lol. I'd love to find out what your AU is, i would love doing a crossover thing with you if you want to do one with me! I know all the art I showed is traditional, I do have a digital setup as well, I just wasn't planning on showing these to anyone other than the like... One other person I talk to about this AU.

Hiya! So I just stumbled upon SEGAU and I gotta say, I'm hooked! Like, I'm very confused, but it all looks so cool! You said you were okay with questions and I want to know more, so here we go!
Is there anything in the early story (Sonic’s origins, meeting Tails, Project Shadow, the like) that has significantly changed from canon? I can't think of any other questions right now, so we'll start with that.
YES the first ask about it !!!! Heck yeah ! Sorry it took me a full hour to write this up I have a lot to say !
Let's see, the answer is Y E A H.
First of all lemme explain the basic chaos energy setup I have going on, it'll help. ( this ended up being VERY long feel free to skip the bullet points... )
So every person has a different way that chaos energy flows inside them, that's called chaos flow. There's different chaos flow categories with type distinctions based on if you have special powers and how strong they are, but let's forgo types for now because that's not that important, here are the categories !
Dormant : that's the base category, most everyone is born like this, with a stagnant chaos flow, and within their early childhood it's usually fixed into their definitive type ( which can also stay dormant ), important to note : just because you're not dormant doesn't mean you will have any special powers listed here !!
Passive : slow swirlies in your flow ! very stable ! the kinds of powers you can get from this are "internal", mind powers essentially, for example Rouge can read people's thoughts ! This is also the flow pattern that can give you a summonable item like Amy's hammer, those are called chaos objects.
Active : not stable ! the flow is sparking and bursting all throughout, and that's where you'll see most people with form changes, but not only like Super forms, also like what Tails, Cream and Knuckles do : shifting their body parts ( wings is the standard ). And this is where you'll see Shadow's abilities to externalize and shape chaos energy ! Shadow is just REALLY good at it.
Hyperactive : super rare, and for good reason, because it is like solar flares inside you all the time, and a lot of people with this one are born into it instead of developing it normally, and that's NO GOOD because newborns are NOT made to handle that and most of them will unfortunately not live for very long :( Silver is alive though !! Hyperactives tend to have faster everything ever.
and last up, Conditional : this is the rarest flow category, there's like 10 people in the world at once with this, aaaand Sonic is one of them. Basically this cycles multiple flow patterns, and can potentially use abilities from all available flow patterns. The problem with this is it's so rare and unpredictable that if you were ever to have a medical issue related to your chaos flow... well, good luck.
I lied there's another one but there is only one person that has it and it is Amy :)
Okay maybe I explained the basics too much... Are you still with me ?
So yes, let's get into backstory. The first thing you need to know is that GUN is very bad ! No good at all !! And they have a lab. Terrible things happen to children in there.
Anyway, little Sonic happens to be born and have conditional flow. Uh oh ! This is the perfect base to go off of to create a potentially perfect being ( aka Project Shadow ) ! Eventually they decide to move the project to the Ark, and poor 4 year-old Sonic with it. Unfortunately ( or fortunately ) for the little guy, once Shadow starts happening, they kind of forget about him, leading to Sonic being in suspended animation on the Ark for 38 years straight, secret to the world. Until his capsule gets ejected mysteriously and it lands on Christmas Island.
Of course, present-day Sonic does not remember a lick of this. Shadow doesn't know either, they were never in the same room together. Sonic was basically an unnamed research paper at that point.
38 years later and in fact 9 years after that, that GUN lab STILL exists... until little Amy, who also got caught by the GUN baby-stealing ninjas, absolutely blows it up and off the face of the world and walks away to meet with destiny.
---
Alllllright that's probably enough lore for your ask ? Sorry this is SO long and complex to say such a simple thing about Sonic being the basis for Shadow, haha...
A thing to note, I am fusing some games together here, the logistics are being worked on, but for example, CD and 06 are fused together, which means Amy meets Sonic during Sonic 2, just a little later than Tails !

Okay, I promised myself to stay logged out. And there is a lot to mourn IRL today, but here I am because I channeled all my rage into my passion project, which is currently writing fanfiction and in doing research for my story I found...
Did you know that the reunion in the Shrieking Shack at the end of POA was impossible for two reasons (and I'm PISSED). Also I drop some F-Bombs in this post. Sorry not sorry.
The full moon of June 1994 was on the 23. Here's a lunar calendar.
"It's from Hagrid," said Harry, ripping the note open. "Buckbeak's appeal - it's set for the sixth." - From POA Chapter Sixteen - Professor Trelawny's Prediction
This would be in reference to June 6th, 1994, as Hogwarts always lets out in June. How hard is it to reference a fucking lunar calendar!?!?!?!?! **An Edit on 11/7 - My partner said JKR didn't have access to the internet like we do now, so my 45 second google research into the lunar calendar of the nineties might have taken her an hour at her local library...**
2. Werewolves transform with the rising of the full moon (at least that is the impression mythology has given me and nothing in the Harry Potter world has contradicted this).
Then, out of nowhere, something hit Harry so hard across the face he was knocked off his feet again. He heard Hermione shriek with pain and fall too. Harry groped for his wand, blinking blood out of his eyes - "Lumos!" he whispered. The wandlight showed him the trunk of a thick tree; they had chased Scabbers into the shadow of the Whomping Willow and it's branches were creaking as though in a high wind, whipping backwards and forward to stop them going nearer. -From POA Chapter Seventeen- Cat, Rat, and Dog
AND
A cloud shifted. There were suddenly dim shadows on the ground. Their party was bathed in moonlight. -From POA Chapter Twenty - The Dementor's Kiss [this was the whole group coming out of the Willow BEFORE Remus begins to transform]
AND
"Here comes Lupin!" said Harry as they saw another figure come sprinting down the stone steps and haring toward the Willow. Harry looked up at the sky. Clouds were obscuring the moon completely. -From POA Chapter Twenty-One - Hermione's Secret
So, while we don't have any time stamp evidence, these passages suggest it was already dark enough for Harry to cast a Lumos to see where they were BEFORE they even went under the Willow. Evidence here also suggests the moon was FULLY FUCKING RISEN by the time Remus left the castle to go down the tunnel at the base of the Willow. It was merely obscured by a cloud.
Someone for the love of all things Harry Potter, PLEASE contradict me!
Please tell me I missed a critical tidbit of information that, oh actually werewolves are only in their true form if the rays of the full moon are shining DIRECTLY UPON THE GROUND!?!?!?! Or my analysis of the timing of these events is simply incorrect.
I mean how big of an oversight is this. The lunar calendar is bad enough, she had years to plan this plot line. I'm writing FANFICTION for FREE and I have sworn by the lunar calendars of the 1970's to dictate each of Remus' transformations. But to utilize Remus' lycanthropy to allow Peter to escape and Voldemort to return, and to have it not even have been a full moon that day and for the circumstances of his "delayed" transformation to be so skeptical, has me positively reeling.
I've sworn I would follow canon events through the seven books if I stay motivated to write that far, but now... I don't think so. My story will still lead into canon for event compliance but if I write into those years I'm doing an AU. An AU where plot diverges at this extremely PIVITOL MOMENT in the series.
An AU where Sirius and Remus get to live. Where old wrongs are righted. Where Dumbledore does something USEFUL and hunts down Voldemort and Horcruxes himself. Where we see the fallibility of Prophecies. We already lost Regulus, James, and Lily. Someone deserves to live.
I am open to thoughts, if you have them to share!

Final animation
music: my animatic is based off of the movement of music and how music makes us move, I wanted to explore the movement of music through dance and shape as well as creating a scene or story of how before music we grow almost static and down at times, but when we put on our favourite songs we can't help but to move to the rhythm and beat!
Here is the finished video link..........
Aoife Music Project (youtube.com)
Tumblr media
For my final animation I didn't get to add my painted backgrounds as I found it confusing to animate over unfortunatly, however I opted to make digital background versions of my paintings as this made it easier for me to animate.
Overall I am happy with how this animatic turned out, I feel I have put a lot of research into it.
Things I could have changed: think I could have created a better story or spent more time on the album covers and music as that was the reason for the animatic, I was too focused on how good the background story was and didnt have enough time centred around the movement of music. Perhaps now that I have made my first longer length animation I know how long it takes and I should reconsider my story ideas and key moments to improve on my story telling skills, I also think I should've looked up more animation tutorials as they wouldvé been helpfull.
Inspiration: For this animation I took a lot of inspiration from the anime Your Name, however I also used reference from an animation I was recommended to watch recently. Called Destino this is an animation that tells the tragic love story of Chronos, the personification of time, who falls in love with a mortal woman.
There is beautiful music within the film and the way the character dances and how her hair flows really inspired me to create something as delicate and flaccid. I used this the most for the transitioning of my first album cover where it flows into the next, in the film they transition things seemisly, for example when the woman becomes a part of the shadow.
Tumblr media
youtube
seminar: I decided to go over a seminar to help me with my work, I chose to watch the animation seminar, In the video I got to understand the considerations we must take on when moving images, these were things such as;
we have to take in the audience considerations such as physical or shared experience and their different device formats
Composition considerations such as screen orientation, staging, posing, directing attention and contrast
Editing considerations: transitions, types of editing, narrative, pacing
Genre and styling considerations you must take into account for mood, tone, look and feel, scene details.
Linking in Graphic Design and Painting into my animatic.
in Graphic Design I explored music through it's actions such as- strumming, rhytm, beat and pattern. creating patterns inspired by those helped me to do this for my animation, I knew what shapes and patterns to use because i practiced this many times in that elective.
in Painting I got to learn about contrast, light and shadow as well as drawing live modles and what to capture and illustrate from them to make a successful drawing that contained energy and essence of character, this is what I tried to implement into my animation also.

Light and Shadows 02
By following the tutorial I find from Youtube (Blender: https://youtu.be/Z8sg0nHNTTo?si=UQIOAXEIe9zQNn3W). I began with simple meshes.
Tumblr media
I have learnt that if you want to make a realistic style of this kind of props. You may need to use sculpting of Blender as well, But when I want to high polly the model. I have encountered a problem.
Tumblr media
It become a sphere. After some research I find out that I should use a different Modifier.
Tumblr media
Have this base, I can finally sculpt. Since I have learnt some similar things from ZBrush, this seems more easier than I thought.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After detailed, this cube is very much like the real one. Then I try to import that into Unreal 5, but Unreal 5 breaks a lot when I import the high polly models, maybe it's just to many faces this model have. So I need to learn and try UV for this project.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It turns out good. Still really import and render that in Unreal 5 still a huge mystery for me.
Still I think this project is very interesting for further development, I am planning to make this one one of my final development as well.

Ashleigh Danby's 'Boots vs Roots'
Statement
My ad campaign is called ‘Boots vs Roots’, which leads to a website that documents the importance of washing your shoes before entering a track with Kauri trees. I want to create more recognition in people when they see cleaning stations and stress that it is compulsory, not a choice.
For the longest time, this project was meant to be a brochure aimed at children, but after some feedback, I realised I wasn’t reaching far enough and changed my deliverables to an ad campaign that leads to a website. Now, I had to plan new photo shoots to better suit the deliverables. I spent the last 2 weeks of the course making the ad campaign and website, and this was the best part of this project, as I had full control of everything - no weather to navigate and no people to wait for.
I took a lot of photographs during my 4 photo shoots, so most of my thinking came in making the ad campaign. I had to pick 3 images that worked well, but each told a different part of the story. When it came to fonts, it was a long process, but I eventually chose Post Cut Neue as it’s easy to read and has a fun and playful energy. The colour palette was something that evolved a lot throughout this process and eventually landed on a complementary colour palette of blue and orange, which the website displays, as well as having a slight green background to compliment the photographs themselves. A complementary colour palette uses 2 colours that are directly opposite each other in the colour wheel to create contrast (FIGMA, 2025). The layout came naturally to me on the print ads as I had practised a lot leading up to the final submission. I wanted the text to be interacting with the photograph it was sitting on, so it didn’t look like text slapped across a photograph. I used the warp and drop shadow tool on my text in the billboard ads. The layout of the website came easily as I used a template on Squarespace to build the base of it and went from there. Don’t take that as I only put my photographs where the template told me, the only part I didn’t directly edit was the introduction. I believed it was important to hook viewers in by showing them the beautiful side of the Waitakere Ranges and then stress the importance of washing your shoes, etc.
I began with the working title of ‘Roots vs Boots’, which I thought had a humorous element, while also being direct and straight to the point. As I was putting my campaign together, I was thinking of headlines. With some work around the cliche phrase: ‘you can run, but you can’t hide’, I came up with ‘We can run, Kauri can’t’, the unsaid implication of Kauri not being able to run from the Kauri dieback disease. However, after feedback, I came to the realisation that I’m not targeting runners, so why use the word run? Even if the headline works in theory, it’s not necessarily perfect for this work. He suggested going back to ‘Roots vs Boots’ but making it alphabetical instead: ‘Boots vs Roots’.
Most of my research focused on identifying my target audience. I initially chose children, aiming for my work to be used in schools to encourage them to remind their parents to clean their shoes, since kids are the key to getting parents to feel guilty enough to change their habits (Wilson, 2018). However, because my deliverables changed, targeting children is not the best route. Instead, I want to target casual hikers. Not people who live and breathe hiking, but people who might go hiking in the summer, or who would only go with friends or family, who do a hike for ‘the gram’ (Welsh, 2022). As my ad campaign is not to spread awareness of the tracks themselves, but the impacts of kauri dieback disease, it’s important to show to effects of everyone who uses the tracks and that even casual hikers make a difference.
Once my deliverables changed, I needed to rethink what kinds of photos I was taking so that they would be suitable for an ad campaign. I started with researching artist models and found Peter Peryer’s “Apple Tree” at the AUT library and fell in love. That image became the inspiration for my last photoshoot of minimalist photographs. Having looked at this photo, it also guided me into picking what 3 images would become part of the ad campaign.
My first steps for my campaign were to just take photos. Through feedback, I learned that I need to work on my close-up photography and post-production editing. Previously, I photographed at face value and did minimal edits, but through learning and experimenting with my tools, I was able to make some images that I thought I’d never produce.
Once all of my photographs were taken, I did more post-production in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop to create the ad campaign. I had some base knowledge of these apps, but creating the campaign allowed me to learn all of them in more depth, especially the text and warp tools.
Finally, I had to learn how to make a website. I enjoyed laying out all of my work, and it was satisfying that I had all the content that I needed without having to go out and reshoot.
What worked during this project was that I felt organised. I am proud of the amount of work I achieved and the end result. What didn't work so well was my inability to attend some of the later half of the semester’s classes. I could have benefited from my peers' feedback rather than my Mum and Dad’s. Perhaps I could have gotten the contacts of my peers to message them privately for feedback.
