conceptualising brucie wayne as like…. an ominous boomer texter. he uses a lot of ellipses. never elaborates on anything. describes events in the worst ways imaginable. he texts dick ‘the plane went down. we lost tim’ (bruce forgot to pick tim up from school after lacrosse practice) and dick tries to call and ask if bruce just told him his brother?? is dead?? and bruce just keeps replying with thumbs up emojis with no context and ‘tim passed’ (his final exams)

You made that post about Scaramouche having Aku's number aand sending him memes+pics of weird bugs, and I've only seen like two episodes of samurai jack in the past decade but I'm curious now.

What do you think Scaramouche's texting style is like? Like, especially towards Aku. I don't know how much of his ski-bod-dop-ing would translate to text but I imagine he still spends a lot of effort trying to act cool and charming through his messages. does he like emojis? ( ͡⎚ ω ͡⎚) 😎🤙 🤖❤️‍🔥🌳 would he b a casual all lower case sorta guy or a 'I am texting my boss/crush so I will use proper grammar and punctuation.' one. The Public Must Know. (If you want to answer this of course no pressure also I love your writing lots 💕)

Honestly, i'm still trying to decide this for myself.

Part of it is that I want the texting to not only sound like Scaramouche, but also feel like how somebody would text in a distant future where magic existed long before sentient robots which existed long before smartphones.

And as it is, the (real world) texting styles I can think of feel like they're on a sliding scale between "very formal and professional (and therefore 'timeless')," and "feels like the early 21st century." it's hard to come up with a texting style that's informal without feeling incredibly contemporary (i.e., identical to the way we convey casualness via emojis or setting aside capitalization/punctuation/spelling)

and I want his texting to feel like Scaramouche from Aku's Future, not Scaramouche from 2025. I haven't yet figured out how to convey that.

Without yet knowing how this looks, I think Scaramouche's texting style toward Aku starts out very formal (albeit enthusiastic) and over time becomes more casual (and even more enthusiastic).

on the other hand, anachronism be damned, i know without a doubt that on the once-a-month-at-best occasion that Aku texts back, he uses boomer ellipses, and Scaramouche never knows how the hell he's supposed to interpret it.

apparently using ellipses is associated with boomers..... but when i use ellipses in text posts i'm using them to convey thinking..... the longer the ellipses, the longer it took me to think of my next word.

a new paragraph is a new thought. ellipses are where my thought paused because of brain fog......... like those are 2 different meanings

The Jacob/Sam Reddit AMA is fantastic RPF research (sorry) if you ever want to include a texting sequence in your fic. Sam can't spell, disregards all punctuation/capitalization conventions but intermittently and without rhyme or reason, uses tons of emojis, and makes his ellipses too long like a Boomer. Jacob types with impeccable grammar, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, etc., no emojis, but somehow manages to mimic the syntax and prosody of his spoken language Exactly. been noticing the quirks in my own typing style lately & so far the main ones are extending words for emphasis (as in "i'm soooooo tired" or "omg that's cuteeeee"), using the 😭 emoji constantly but using emoticons like <3 and :) for basically everything else, boomer ellipses (like this... you know what i mean) and always using two exclamation points (like this!!) instead of one

picked up this zine and it was very intriguing .. have some thoughts .. the author (using modern scholarly sources) points out how “burning times” shit developed antisemitic characteristics n how witchcraft movements n feminism use that rhetoric still ..

honestly it frustrates me how little witchcraft spaces genuinely engage with the root issue of racism n antisemitism in occult practices .. especially with the major influence of new age and its rampant orientalism. like we complain about witches appropriating chakras and stuff but like … what is the behavioral pattern … why are we not able to try to address head on these issues … (noting again the links between t*rf ideology and white supremacy) .. i wonder why i say ironically. sorry for all the boomer ellipses im typing n like if i was writing this in my notebook lol
