I'm so sad about Benny ! For some background on what we needed for him to survive: Every moon he had "red cough" in game he had a high chance of dying. Then the game determines how many moons he'd have to survive in order to not die. He would have had to last 49 moons. I made a little count down in my notes to try and see if he'd make it but the odds were so bad. I did a poll to see if we should increase odds or decrease time and the results were to keep it as is and let the game run its course. As sad as that makes it, it was probably the better decision because it's more genuine to the playthrough to avoid too much game manipulation. In the slim timeline Benny survived he'd be deadly sick for almost a year

ok.slams hands on the table ive had this au idea for a Long time and i keep forgetting to share it.sorry if my words are incoherent or have poor grammar i was gardening in direct sunlight for 3 hours and im just now cooling off

uhh tw for blood and death.the usual [oh and also cannibalism thats very important]

the au revolves around apricot.and yk how rufus was scared apricot was a cannibal because of his dreams.well in this au those fears are correct !!

basically, apricot survives off the blue blood objects have, as well as like.their limb material. hypothetically he could eat regular food but its not nearly enough to satiate him/give him the necesary nutrients he'd need to keep living. this makes him sorta like.a vampire/cannibal beast thing. if he goes too long without object blood he goes into a sort of blind rampage ? he just seeks out and kills someone, more often than not his victims are general wastelanders rather than the groups he resides in [like the justice group where nectarine was [forgot their name] and vault 9]. he leaves the object devoid of their blue blood, and without limbs.also he doesnt remember anything during these rampages.he wakes up the next day like his usual silly self

the reason nectarine abandoned him was because the rest of the justice group found out about apricot's cannibal tendencies and asked nectarine to.""dispose of him"". but nectarine couldnt kill her own kid !! so she kinda just.set him loose.and hoped he'd just wander off and eventually die somewhere far away. but obviously that didnt work

ALSO he was the one responsible for shale's death, shale's death was actually the reason his old group realized he was dangerous ! [i could be wrong about this but shale's death was before apricot joined iirc. if im wrong then apricot still killed shale but nobody in v9 found out it was him]

idk why this au decided to manifest in my brain and stay there but its been so long that it kinda just.lives there forever now.and ive wanted to share it for a while but i kept forgetting

This is genuinely such an interesting AU ! It has the vibes of a lot of other apocalypse media (meant in a /pos way!)

Nectarine turning him loose because she can't keep him in her group is a really fun and tragic detail, and the things that stick out to me the most as potential thoughts on the AU are:

-Apricot is still just a kid/young teen (12-14), he'd be a really unassuming threat in this AU, which might have made it easier to get close to people before they found out the hard way about the bloodthirst fueled strength. More importantly though being so young means it's more likely the people around him would want to cut him some slack and help him (especially our vault fellas!)

-With this kind of condition he absolutely cannot stay in the vault when (or, more accurately if) it seals. There would probably be no way to properly sustain him

-It gives the impression his condition is secret for a while, would he tell the rest of the vault? Or the people he's close to like Call of Greatness and Hehe?

-Shale was friends with people in the vault, and he was extremely important to Blue Spruce. Usually Spruce can be more open minded, but she can be cold when she's slighted and this is an unforgivable action. Would she understand he had little to no control or would she hate him?

-And then on Apricot's own psyche. He wants to help and be seen as good so bad even as regular Apricot. He practically idolizes the people he looks up to (his mom, CoG, etc). The knowledge that he's dangerous and hurts innocent people would tear him apart, but he's so strong willed he'd try his best to control it 

Then a silly thought: If Rufus was the same as he was in canon, would he have been extra good at sniffing Apricot's condition out or is he still just weird /silly

He has definitely wanted to, though his intentions towards To-Go are more than punching. In the test moons (when I edit files for ages and stuff I skip a few times in a non-canon way to test) he has murdered To-Go more than once

Despite the sadness I feel for Benny dying, I wonder if this was Clangen’s way of giving him a “non-violent” ending. His personality trait in-game was bloodthirsty, so he was way more likely to get into conflicts and act aggressively character-wise. There’s also the mechanical fact that any character with the trait will always have a small chance of randomly murdering someone and a highly increased chance of killing people they dislike/are jealous of. It’s basically a ticking timebomb, one you usually hope doesn’t go off. However with aging signifigantly reduced here and Benny having at least one member of the vault that he hated, well, I think it would’ve been pretty much an inevitability at some point.

Benny could have left the vault on much worse terms, but instead left it on relatively positive/neutral ones. Still… I really do wish he had survived. I suppose I’m just trying to find some sort of silver lining here, y’know?

That's definitely true ! In fake test runs (I always simulate a few fake moons any time I make changes like reduce ages and stuff to make sure I didn't break anything) he has killed people.
