“what did you say again? that you are my knight who will always protect me?” despite their straight face, their tone was dripping with amusement. it… wasnt hard to pick up on the magister’s subtle movements, how their words come out slightly faster when they’re excited. the problem was simply whether someone was looking for it, for whatever reason. it wasnt hard to pick up when they’re so close either.

a crinkle of amusement in their eyes, their impossibly relaxed posture in the swaying boat. an ungloved hand resting on his forehead, hoping to cool him off with simple cooling magic. they are an anchor tethering him to this mortal plane threatening to knock his senses askew

he sighs, closing his eyes, away from the spinning skies. “yeah, yeah. i’ll make good with my promise once i’m back on my feet.” his voice was hoarse, even to his own ears. bitter bile sticks to the back of his throat and he wants to wash it away.

he hears chippy and hammie fretting in the distance, all his senses dulled. the boat continues to rock along the waves, and he can do nothing but follow its flow. it leaves a bad feeling in his mouth, and not just because of the bile. there wasn’t anything solid for him to fight, to slash against. there was nothing he can do

“magister, will valen be alright?”

a hum and a hand brushes his sweaty bangs back. “he already vomited the contents of his stomach, so there’s nothing for him to vomit out now.”

his organs feel like its protesting being inside his body now though

lorsan pipes up, his ears drooping slightly. no doubt, he feels slightly responsible for his unfortunate circumstances. “that… are you trying to reassure us or worrying us?” it was difficult to discern the intent of the magister’s words sometimes.

groaning, he miserably shuffles closer to the magister, his head planted firmly on their thigh. it doesnt help that the sun is high up in the noon now. he would’ve surely been cooked if it wasn’t for the magister’s cooling magic.

“how much longer…?” he mutters, words muffled by his arms.

the boat skipper grunts, eyeing him. “just a little more.”

chippy groans for him. “that’s what you’ve been saying for the past hour…!” honestly, chippy doesn’t look so chipper himself

hammie pats chippy, still carefully standing in the middle of the boat, not risking to get her fur wet just yet. “now, now. there’s not much of anything to tell how far we are, with the varying currents and all.”

the conversation buzz into nonsensical sounds he can’t decipher. he shifts uncomfortably as he tries to keep up with it. the magister notices.

they chuckle, their voice low and soothing. they cover his eyes with the palm of their hand. “let me be your knight just this once. rest, valen.”

he doesn’t have any energy to respond, only enough to pray the warmth on his cheeks was simply the heat of the sun. next time, he must make it up

Comfort piece. I am very happy to be back at school, but this first week is so chaotic and exhausting on so many levels, that i cannot wait for the weekend. And the new season. xD Meanwhile, the little bit of mental and actually physical strength I have left... went into this. I want to rest there as well.

Hello I am here to offer a counter to the "Valen and Juniper are dating" headcanon... it's much worse: Valen and Juniper are not dating, but have definitely drunkenly made out, or more, at least once and are in a hate/hate friends with benefits situation at most with a degree of mutual feeling between them. I say this because I think if those two dated someone (other than them) would end up in a coma.
