Valentine Coding Challenge!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This challenge initially started as something I wanted to do for myself because I love February vibes – plus I love challenges... even if I don't stick to them all the time hehe. But hey, I love to be extra so I made an info sheet/post thingy! Yay~! I thought it would be fantastic to share and invite anyone interested to join in~! Or just watch me do the challenge... :p
As a Christian, I love exploring the deeper meanings behind celebrations. That's why I'm aiming to dedicate at least one of the projects to the two priests named Valentine~!
Anyhoo, can't wait~!

i have dry eyes which isn't great for a programmer. tried to look for a mobile app that could help me manage it, but there weren't any, so I gotta make my own.
did research into some frameworks. have used react native and java + android studio before, but that was five years ago. man, software changes so fast.
i'm a big believer in reducing code redundancy, so I want a hybrid framework that compiles to native code. this way, I can write one codebase to support both android and ios with no loss to performance.
react native is tried and true and arguably the longest and best supported hybrid framework there is. a safe choice.
compose multiplatform + kotlin multiplatform is like react native on steroids though. not only does it support mobile platforms, but also web and desktop. and the cross-platform portability is not just for front-end development, so I can write whatever function I need in kotlin and build it to any target.
it's super new though. just became stable for Android in nov 2023. still in alpha for iOS front-end development. can definitely foresee it becoming an industry titan in a few years though.
not sure which one to choose yet, but definitely one of the two.

Monday 29th January 2024 - Projects selection
Hello приветик~! I'm finally starting my #valentinecodechallenge! I need to present a project by next Monday, which will be the first full week of February. But this post is just about me declaring to myself what 5 projects I came up with that I want to create for this challenge!

My Chosen Projects
LoveMatch - a memory card game where you upload 3 pictures of you as a couple to be the playing cards~!
Izzy's Love Lines - Simple page with a list of my favourite romantic lines/quotes from History/TV/Movies/Anime/The Bible, etc
Pair Perfection Calculator - a bit like relationship compatibility calculators (This could be fun, a bit like those 2000s celebrity-crush compatibility calculators they had in magazines)
Cupid's Greeting - "Will you be my Valentine?" card opening CSS animation page thingy
ILUVU - a page that has "I love you" in different languages. You can even click and copy the text~!

That's all! I think this challenge will be all I post until the end of February! Sorry, not sorry!!
Also if you can code, you should totally join! Even if you make just one project! I really made the challenge for myself to work on but do join if you have small ideas for St Valentine's Day!

Wednesday 31st January - Creating the project
Back to my "LoveMatch" project - I couldn't really work on it yesterday because a work ticket that I still not working on right now took most of my time plus Russian study plus anime, so today I made some progress by designing the logo for the game!
Plus me singing to Love Train that I found on YouTube recommendation after many years and I got excited :)
I want to get the homepage done today!! That would be lovely~!
That’s all for now~!

Monday 29th January - Creating the project
I started planning for the "LoveMatch" project! This time I didn't use Figma but made the sketch in my random notebook! I haven't done this in a way but it is a bit more quicker!
I will now try and add this into a Figma file since I don't know, I just want to do it~! Probably tonight or tomorrow I will start coding it up!
That's all for now~!

Saturday 20th January 2024
Yeah, coming up with St. Valentine's Day/Love/Romantic project ideas for the #valentinecodechallenge challenge is harder than I thought.
I mean, I have the ideas but design-wise I'm thinking "That's nice but how the frick would I code that up?!" basically I am being a bit too ambitious, especially since I only get one week to build the project 🤔... this is what I came up with (you can take them as well if you want cause I'm not sure I would build them when the time comes, unsure~):
Valentine's Day Countdown - not only limited to this year
Memory game where you upload 3 pictures of each other as playing cards
Valentine's Day card maker??
Simple page with a list of my favorite romantic lines/quotes from History/TV/Movies/Anime/The Bible, etc
Relationship Compatibility Calculator (This could be fun, a bit like those 2000s celebrity-crush compatibility calculators they had in magazines)
VERY simple page with a heartbeat animation (this project is in case things get busy so I have to work on smaller side-projects)
"Will you be my Valentine?" card opening CSS animation page thingy?
Romantic slideshow where the user uploads up to 10 couples images and a cute slideshow is shown
Good ideas BUT DESIGNING I'M STUCK... I'll get there somehow~!
