okay so ive decided tumblr is where i go when i have a (thankfully seemingly mild) medical emergency
i just suddenly had like a lot of vasodilation (when i hold my arm below my heart blood drains into it and the veins bulge out visibly) and like as a result my heart's pumping really gently due to the lower vascular resistance, which is probably great for my heart to give it that chance to relax for a while, but like kinda concerning still cause why the fuck did my veins just decide to give out suddenly???
as context ive slept 1 hour 40 mins in the last 46 hours probably neurological cause
oh nvm in these few minutes of writing and the few mins before my blood vessels decided to tighten back up?? wtf?? is it cause i got alarmed which i assume can cause vasorestriction?

out of desperation i dug through my medicine drawer for the bottle of extended release ritalin i got in like 2022 to try out and then didn't like very much because nobody told me how to use it (you take the ER ritalin in conjunction with instant release ritalin but nobody told me this) and also i remember it giving me cold-like symptoms? but surely that wasn't true and i was just misremembering or maybe i actually had a cold at the time. now you'll never guess what symptoms i'm experiencing right now all of a sudden

Do... Do we want you to flex??
What sort of question is that?!
🦟
Something something blood flow?
Look, buddy, I’m not judging. Whatever gets your proboscis ready for action, you know…
#wrrnblr#flexing increases vasodilation in and around muscular tissue#I’m a doctor dammit not an entomologist#<- this tag specifically designed to insult people with a PhD in entomology#I’m sure there are some on here#I’ll add my PhD is in a different kind of bugs#just to watch the entomologists bugsplain that mosquitos are not classified as bugs#that’s okay neither are my bugs#if it’s big enough to see with the naked eye I don’t know what it is

It’s tragic that I can’t even enjoy laying in bed anymore because I now associate it with being too sick to even look at my phone and also intercranial hypertension gets worse when you lay down. Chronic illness loves to ruin all of life’s small pleasures for you.
#can’t drink hot beverages because somehow it causes enough vasodilation to make my head symptoms worse?#medical shit

Historical medicine development was so funny... hey we have this new drug against ulcers. Oh OK it doesn't do anything for ulcers but it DOES lower blood pressure, let's look into that. Oh um turns out it makes people grow more hair? Let's roll with that
#p#and we dont even know why it does that#'increased blood flow' is a somewhat poor explanation given that other vasodilators do not do that

I got diagnosed with severe raynaud’s two years ago. It got suddenly MUCH worse this year.
Develop a wound on a couple fingers, wound doesn’t get better in two months
multiple doctor visits
finally have to take sudden medical leave because one finger hurts really bad every time I touch something, my fingers are constantly cold and white, and they just hurt all the time
referral to dermatology because my doctor thinks it’s eczema
it’s hand ischemia, an unhealing sore caused by raynaud’s
get medication to help the raynaud’s by improving bloodflow (see tags) and a referral to rheumatology and bloodwork ordered
rheumatology gives me another medication to improve bloodflow to help with the raynaud’s, concludes that I have an autoimmune disorder
hand sores are getting better?! now only one finger looks like there's anything wrong, and it barely hurts to touch things anymore!
another medication to improve bloodflow, which now makes three
dermatologist wants to try botox shots, which is a new application that has seen some very promising results
insurance says no
insurance says no x2
insurance says no x3 AND says they are fine with me losing my fingers which will probably happen without the treatment
I'm a coffee barista. how am I supposed to make lattes without my fingers!?
it’s been about three months I’ve been on medical leave so I decide to pay for the botox out of pocket
it costs $700 to treat one hand. I will need both hands treated
I am told I will see results between 2-14 days
I see improvement within three days and significant difference between the two hands at seven days
I have the other hand treated today, exactly 14 days after the first is treated
#raynauds#raynauds phenomenon#raynauds syndrome#autoimmune disorder#socks' shitty shitty year#blue cross blue shield#<-fuck my insurance#but they prescribe viagra adjacents with no questions asked#the viagra adjacent is for raynaud’s#because it’s a vasodilator#it improves bloodflow#socks storytime

Hey y'all! The AC in my house is like half-broken and I have all the heat tolerance of a particularly sad penguin*, so I could use some advice. I am from a desert area, so I know the stay hydrated, electrolytes, loose clothes type advice, but do you have any advice for handling the heat in humid areas specifically? Also, does anyone have any recommendations for sun hats? Specific sun hats you recommend are what I'm looking for, but if you don't have a specific one an idea of what criteria I should look for would be very helpful too *I say this jokingly, idk how much heat tolerance penguins actually have. I have POTS, salt wasting syndrome, and some unknown autoimmune issue that probably involves my endocrine system? Docs are still working on it but the sum total is I cannot exist in hot temperatures
#the person behind the yarn#tj asks weird questions#this one isn't that weird that's just my tag for this#I have All The Electrolytes in supplement form#and I take them regularly! and a medication to make me retain them better!#it just doesn't work enough for summer#the AC is keeping it to mid 80s at the highest but at like anything over 78ish I start wilting#like a dramatic houseplant#and I saw a post and apparently benadryl makes you sweat less??#which on the one hand is good for me personally for 'hey that is my salt I want to keep it' reasons#but on the other is bad for 'actually lowering temperature' reasons#though to be clear I don't really overheat. like. I do not get actual heat exhaustion#my problem is my body is Too Good at vasodilation in an effort to shed heat#so my blood pressure drops and it makes my heart rate skyrocket to try to compensate#but frequently when it's hot my body temperature is actually a full degree or more BELOW my normal#I am not in danger of actual overheating in any way shape or form. I'd pass out first from low blood pressure lol
