EVEN THE HOLY WEAR MANY MASKS ( MARVEL / HYDRA VERSE/AU )

Can angels ever truly be captured? Their power is something next to none and those born of more than just the holy power are a force unlike any other.

Torture and Trauma were something that Sima was far beyond familiar with. Her entire lifetime had been a mixture of the two as she scraped through aeon after aeon with her mother bringing her a different kind of Hell to the one she was the Princess of. However, the Second World War came about and with it, the nephalem began to see a whole other side to the two words. Like many of her family, she joined them among the humans. Humanity had grown to mean a lot to her and she could not simply stand back and watch everything; she had to do something about it.

She enlisted herself. Not as a soldier or as a clerk but as a doctor. The nurses all turned their noses up at her while the male doctors often shunned her for stepping above her position as a woman at the time but Sima did not care. She was there to help and heal as much as she could.

No one should have to play witness to the mass death that she did in those years but as the war moved and progressed, so did she. She pushed herself between the allied forces that fought against the evil of Hitler, right until she ended up with the 107th from America.

There was something different about them compared to the many others she'd been surrounded by. They were more upbeat ~ even if she did roll her eyes at the constant performances they had going on. An attempt to boost soldier morale her arse. She just smiled each time one of the little shows happened before returning to tending to the wounded ( even if she did end up humming the tune in the process. )

That was until one battle. One battle where half the men failed to return and Sima watched the looks on the others' faces, on 'Captain America's' face as he was told what squadron he'd performed for before failing to see his friend among those in the crowd. She did not have to step far from the medical tent and her patients to hear the conversation between Rogers and Phillips that day.

Her heart sank as she did so, but she pretended she was still actively tending to the wounded who'd returned. As Steve passed her in a rush to find his friend, she reached out and took hold of his arm, stopping and looking up at him. She did not need to speak any words to let him know that she would help them in the rescue mission, allowing her eyes to shift and show him just who she truly was.

Steve simply nodded before she allowed him to go off again, watching him and the others as they began to rally and gather up what they could to go out there. She waited until the cloak of nightfall came over before she slipped herself away and took to the skies behind Stark. For the most part, she kept herself distanced, acting more as a guardian angel than an active part in the rescue mission, though she did offer a few helping hands when it came to making things go a bit more explosive.

From that point on, Sima became almost the guardian angel of the Howling Commandos, following them behind wherever they infiltrated next and tending to those who needed her care. For a long time, Rogers remained the only one to know her true identity and she preferred it that way. It saved countless questions when she had to allow some men to succumb to their injuries that in truth, she could have saved them from.

But that was nothing compared to the pain on the Valkeryie after one mission in the Alps. She, along with many of the commandos had to watch as Barnes got caught up in the fight and plummeted to his, what they believed, death. Losing him for a second time brought an incomprehensible level of pain but she knew it was nothing compared to the pain that Rogers felt.

She did not care about the commandos knowing her secret any longer, taking to the skies from the train and letting her wings unfold before she too plummeted down in search of Barnes herself. She'd made a promise to Steve. She promised him that she would protect them, protect Barnes, and him dying was not something she was willing to remain on the train with.

Neither of them was found by the search parties from the armies, but they were found by HYDRA. Barnes was out cold from the fall, but he was not dead. Sima had many questions about why that was the case, but before she could figure them out, she had to fight off the soldiers that progressively surrounded them.

Her wings swung and cut into several of them, no drug they tried worked as a result of her own makeup so getting hold of her was easier said than done until they brought Barnes into play. The moment they threatened his life she complied with their commands, but she would never become one of their lapdogs.

They tried their little brainwashing, tried their tortures, but she did not bend or break for any of them. Kneel was not something she did for anyone. Instead, she made a deal with them. She was a doctor, after all, she could help them in that way. Surely she was more beneficial to them then. She would never be an asset.

For years, she worked 'under' them. Playing HYDRA doctor as they experimented with many super soldiers of their own. She could take them out in a single burst of light. Rid the ground of the base completely but not while Barnes was there. Even if he no longer knew who he was. Even if he was now their little toy soldier, killing who he was ordered to. Every time he did begin to remember, she knew. She saw the familiar look in his eyes and returned it with one of her own; a promise that one day, neither of them would be there. Until then, he just had to trust her and the grueling process of being wiped and cryo'd over and over, even with her having to reluctantly be at the end of the trigger for the process at times.

When the new heads took over, Sima remained. time and again, decade after decade, but there was something about the one that came well... last? Pierce. Something about him was not right. His kill order seemed normal enough, much like the other orders given to the Winter Soldier, but it also did not sit quite right. Would he be HYDRA's downfall?

Sima watched as Barnes was carted off to take out the order before she vanished herself. She could teleport out, unlike the others, after all. She followed behind the escort, heading to the location of the kill order. Upon getting there, she noticed Steve with the target, along with Romanoff ~ she recalled the woman from the moment with the KGB and Red Room that Barnes had had.

She kept to the higher levels; watched the fights unfold but allowed herself to channel into Steve's mind. This was the chance they all had to free their old friend from a life of capture under HYDRA.

It was certainly a pleasant sight to watch the fall of them. She knew it was a slow process. That there would still be remnants of them lingering within the shadows, waiting for their time to rise once again, but seeing Barnes become free was what truly mattered, after seventy years under HYDRA's control, he was now free and home once again.

Sima traded her role as a HYDRA doctor to help SHIELD & the Avengers. She told Tony and Bruce all she could about the serum coursing through Bucky's veins and any remaining super soldiers out there ~ even if Zemo had wiped many of them out in Siberia. She had knowledge of remaining bases and could tell them all of the assets that were still being held so that they could work on freeing them all.

Nothing warmed her heart more than seeing Bucky return again after his stay in Wakanda. She knew what it was like to live with the trauma that he did and she would help him in any way that she could now that she no longer had to hold up a rouse. She gave him an apology for everything over those decades too, even though she knew it would probably take so much more than that, she was just happy that he was completely free. Free of the wiping and the cryo, free of the kill orders, free from the trigger words. He could learn to be himself again.

Of course, both SHIELD & The Avengers changed drastically thanks to those events and the events of Thanos, but she still remained with them all. She's still their guardian nephalem, even if she now works in the ER, blending in with humanity once more. She still ensures that when she isn't working, she's with them getting drinks and hanging out or helping them with missions that still come up. After all, even the Holy can wear many masks.

The Ghost stands at ease for now. A tension trap ready to snap when the order is given. The ever ready weapon of war, without hesitation. When they woke him from Cryo he heard the whispers in the halls. Everyone was afraid. The great Captain America had defeated Pierce. Defeated Hydra. If the Ghost could be afraid he would have been.

The Winter soldier escaped, leadership in tatters, anyone would have been afraid for the future. But the Ghost felt nothing. It was beaten and ripped out of him half a century ago. He was just the back up. The emergency asset, as low of a rank as it was even for assets. He wasn't the Winter soldier. But he was damn close. Soviet Russia's second best super soldier. And just as deadly.

Question was, where was this new handler going to send him now?

Summary: While on a mission to find any more possible super soldiers that were a part of the Winter Soldier program, Steve and Bucky make a discovery in an abandoned HYDRA base that was cleared out a few years prior to their mission. They discover the Reader, a long-forgotten soldier that was still asleep within a functioning cryostasis pod; still awaiting orders. While Bucky isn't happy about it, he is put up to the challenge of helping to rehabilitate the soldier in Wakanda where she may be able to become a person again.

A/n: The first chapter was a bit short cause it was a test-run honestly, but I am planning on doing an outline for this story as well. I'm definitely neglecting my previous wips, but i don't have a lot of motivation for them right now. Hopefully, however, I will get to them soon!

This is an au where Bucky joined the avengers but still rehabilitated in Wakanda (sometime before Infinity War [canon divergent cause NOPE]). I am NOT fluent in Russian, so I did use google translate cause I couldn't find a good translator that I trusted. If anything is wrong, PLEASE let me know!! Also, I tried to list as many warnings as possible so you know what the story will contain as chapters are posted. Stay safe!

rehab masterlist. chapter 1.

The ride to Wakanda had been slow and uneventful and tense so far. While Steve had attempted to read the black book that had been beside the soldier's cryostasis pod, his attempts proved unsuccessful.

The whole book was written in Russian, which Steve wasn't versed in at all. So, it had been up to Bucky to look through the book despite his apprehension.

Just like with the red book that came with him, the book within his hands doubled as an instruction manual as well as a history of the soldier that was still sitting rigid behind him; unblinking and unmoving. The book didn't give her a name, which frustrated both Bucky and Steve, but wasn't surprising at all.

HYDRA didn't care for who the person was before they became a tool. All that mattered was who you were to them in the moment, what you could offer, what you did, and if you were valuable enough to keep under their watchful eyes.

To them, the woman was Winter Soldier #08, Subject #2018, which was a peculiar number that stood out to Bucky. Her activation words were different than his as well, as was expected, and he frowned at the words that seemed to take root within his mind and piqued his interest at what the possible connections between them and the soldier were.

Holiday. Cross. Shatter. Stimulation. Integrity. Sport. Axis. Assumption. North. Aurora Borealis.

They were so seemingly random that Bucky's mind was starting to hurt trying to tie together some type of story. While his activation words had an inkling of a connection to his life, these seemed almost benign.

Within the activation section, there were a couple of hastily-scribbled notes that detailed about the soldier's history of resistance and the methods that worked best for such occasions, preferred mission-types, experimentation documentation, and some key accounts of the soldier's missions that were note-worthy to HYDRA.

There was one note that stood out to Bucky, however, that had him on the edge of his seat and growing further uncomfortable as he read.

'NOTE: WS #08 is known to be hostile even after activation. Be prepared to meet resistance with severe punishment (Flagellation, Cattle Prod, and High Frequencies favored). Further reprogramming required to fix flaws.'

It wasn't too entirely unknown for a subject to be resistant. Bucky could recall times where he had resisted in moments where he remembered bits and pieces of his life before HYDRA stripped him of his humanity.

Despite what he had told his therapist and Steve, he still had nightmares about the punishments he received while he was the Winter Soldier.

No amount of time within the Mind Chair could ever erase the recollection of the sick things HYDRA did to him to make him listen and be obedient.

Bucky could still feel the hands on him in the moments his mind forced him to remember: the painful intrusions, the feeling of a whip against his back, fingers digging into his scalp and yanking his hair, voices yelling profanities and insults and sexual degradations as he was beaten, tortured, assaulted; whatever HYDRA wanted in those moments.

Taking a shaky breath, Bucky closed his eyes for a moment before Steve's voice had the arms on his hairs standing; forcing Bucky to jump out of his mind and back into the present as the Captain addressed him.

"Shouldn't be too long now before we arrive. Any luck on our guest?"

Bucky shook his head, murmuring softly as he glanced down at the book again.

"So far, nothing. There's a couple notes that say she's hostile before and after activation and some methods that prove successful in making her obedient, but that's mainly it. She's been involved in a lot of assassinations, espionage, a couple data breaches: the whole nine yards."

Steve pursed his lips, shaking his head as he sat back in his chair, staring down at the ground as he became lost in thought.

"If she's a highly-valued asset, then why did they leave her in the facility? Seems like she was pretty high on the ladder just to be left where she was."

Bucky and Steve slowly shared a look with each other before alarm bells began to go off in Bucky's head, and he spun around in time to catch the Soldier's wrist, a large knife within her hands. Steve looked shocked, grunting as he jumped back, and Bucky gripped their wrist hard.

The soldier glared at him before bringing her knee up, slamming into his stomach and forcing him to fall back into the control panel of the quinjet. Steve jumped into action then, calling desperately as he dodged a kick to the face.

"Please, we don't wish to hurt you-"

"-but we will if we have to."

Bucky seethed, Steve giving him an exasperated look. The woman didn't hesitate, throwing the knife at Steve as hard as they could. Steve ducked, his blue eyes widened as the knife embedded into the glass of the windshield; cracks webbing throughout the ruined blade.

During this moment, the Soldier turned her attention back to Bucky as he charged, throwing punches that she expertly dodged and ducked from, her fists punching hard into his ribs and face as he missed. The hits hurt like hell, his face contorting into pain before he swung with his left arm, hitting her in the side and throwing her into the wall.

The woman let out a grunt as she smacked into the side of the quinjet, and Bucky cursed loudly when she grabbed the strap of a supply crate and hurled it at him. As he flew back into the seat, Steve came rushing at her, throwing his shield and hitting her in the side of her knee once it ricocheted off of the wall.

The soldier yelled out in pain, crumpling slightly, and Steve immediately tackled her to the ground. The two of them smacked hard onto the metal flooring, and she punched Steve as hard as she could, the man letting out a hiss as pain bloomed within his cheek.

In that split second, she bucked her hips, her legs coming up to wrap around Steve's neck and forcefully slammed him onto the ground, his head smacking against the edge of a seat and disorienting him. The soldier was quick to scramble to her feet despite her wounded knee, and Bucky met her with a punch to her gut, making her double over and audibly retch.

He then grabbed her by the back of her neck, swinging her back and then forward into a seat a couple of times, her mask breaking off in the process, and she jumped up, using the wall for leverage as she swung herself onto Bucky's back, wrapping her arm around his neck to begin choking him.

Bucky grit his teeth, snarling as he reached behind him with his left arm, curling his metal fingers around her broken knee and squeezing as hard as he could.

Throughout her cries of pain, he could hear the sickly sound of bones shattering; could feel the way her skin and bones crushed beneath his grip, and Bucky was able to breathe again as her grip became loose.

He swung himself backwards into a wall, smacking her against it over and over until she finally let go of him, falling down onto the floor. Grabbing her wrists, Bucky called over his shoulder as he restrained her.

"You alright, Steve?"

"I'm just peachy."

He dropped down next to Bucky, wrapping electromagnetic cuffs onto her wrists before forcing her up and into a seat. The soldier's head was bowed, the cuffs smacking into the wall and jerking her body slightly, and Steve made sure to secure her legs as well.

Once she was properly restrained, Steve glanced at Bucky, noting the anger that was on his face; his jaw clenched and blood running down his temple. He was panting, his whole entire body tensed, and Steve took a few deep breaths as well before he turned back to the soldier.

"Seems like your bad feeling turned out to be right."

"We never should have done this."

Bucky's words were harsh, his blue eyes glaring at Steve as the man hissed out.

"I told you that there was going to be a problem, and there was. There's no hope for these people. They are programmed to kill and serve HYDRA and that is it."

"Even if there is no hope, we still need to try. We saved you, and we can save others."

Bucky sighed, shaking his head. There wasn't really any use in trying to fight Steve on this. Bucky understood that Steve came from a good place and had good intentions, but Bucky couldn't keep the anxiety and fear from filling him.

What if something happened? What if HYDRA had found him again and this was their plan all along? Bucky turned back to the woman as her head lifted, and both of the men seemed surprised at being able to see her face clearly.

There were horrific scars on the bottom half of her face that had been concealed by the mask; some of them raised and seemingly new while others were faded and old. Her bottom lip was cut, blood trickling down her chin, and her nose seemed to be broken as well.

Her (e/c) eyes were glaring at the two of them, a cut above her brow from Bucky slamming her into the wall, and Bucky looked taken back. Steve walked forward slightly, frowning.

"What is your mission?"

Her eyes flicked to Steve, her lips pursed, and she simply hissed out as menacingly as she could.

"Heil Hydra."

She sat back, and Bucky hissed out, a fire raging within his eyes as he snarled.

There was no response. Instead, the soldier seemed to begin staring in front of them; becoming vacant and frozen again. Bucky huffed in frustration before he turned to Steve, shaking his head.

"If you still want to go through with this, you need to let Shuri and T'Challa know that she's hostile and active."

"I'll let them know. We're only a few minutes out."

Bucky nodded before he sat opposite of the soldier, muttering.

"I'll keep an eye on her."

Steve gave Bucky a weary look, an expression of apprehension and concern on his face, and he wiped away some blood that had trickled out of his nose.

"Alright. Are you okay?"

"Peachy."

Steve pursed his lips slightly before he walked to the front of the quinjet, immediately opening a communications line with T'Challa, and Bucky stared right at the soldier.

Despite the fact that she was looking at him, it seemed that she was mentally somewhere else. Blood was still running down her nose and chin, dripping onto the floor, and Bucky couldn't help but to clench his jaw as the sound of the dripping ripped into his memories.

Cloth over his face, a bright light from above, boiling hot water slowly burning his skin with every drop, he couldn't breathe. he can't breathe.

Breathe. Breathe. Let me breathe. Please. Let me breathe! LET ME BREATHE!

Bucky shook his head furiously, and he only felt bitter and disgusted by the amused look that seemed to flash within the woman's eyes. Clenching his fists, the man simply huffed as he listened to Steve talk with the King, the kingdom of Wakanda coming to view.

"What on earth would possess you to come to the notion that bringing an active Winter Soldier into my kingdom would be a good idea?"

T'Challa was not happy. As Steve and Bucky stood in front of the king, the Dora Milaje surrounding them with a tight grip on their spears at the information Steve had given T'Challa, the king was frowning deeply while Shuri stood next to him with a curious gaze. Steve looked apologetic while Bucky kept his arms crossed, biting his cheek as Steve spoke, the king glancing at Bucky all-the-while.

"I know this isn't really conventional-"

Okoye was understandably angry as well, her eyes wide with fury as she took a step forward, and T'Challa hummed to her gently.

"Okoye."

The woman did not relent, simply squinting her gaze as Steve bowed his head in shame. Bucky clenched his jaw slightly, and T'Challa glanced at Steve.

"Your vision is noble, and I respect what you are trying to accomplish...but you are asking me to put my people at risk. It was different for Sergeant Barnes...but this...woman...is still under the complete control of HYDRA's programming."

Steve sighed slightly before he pleaded gently.

"I can watch over her...keep her from hurting anybody if something goes wrong. Stark wasn't willing because he doesn't have the technology to reverse the programming like you do, and Wanda is currently MIA."

T'Challa laughed slightly, shaking his head.

"The world will question where Captain America has gone. You cannot ignore your duties to promise something you cannot be sure that you can keep."

Shuri then piped up, suggesting with a shrug.

"Why not have Sergeant Barnes look after her? He has the most experience, after all."

"Absolutely not."

Bucky frowned deeply, shaking his head.

"I have to agree that this is a bad idea. I know that it was different for me, Steve, but that's the issue: I knew you. I had something to cling to...a name, memories and dreams...this woman is completely unknown."

Steve was beginning to look defeated, and Shuri's voice made everyone turn to her.

"If it makes a difference: I would be interested in working on restoring the woman's previous identity, but only if Sergeant Barnes will stay to watch over the process. My brother is right: The Avengers may be a team, but they need their Captain Colonizer to help in times of need."

"Shuri."

T'Challa's voice was stern, but Shuri and Okoye shared a look of amusement with each other before she hummed at the sight of Bucky's apprehensive expression.

"Your expertise on this matter will be beneficial, Sergeant Barnes. I'm afraid that Mr. Rogers will be of no help except for physical."

T'Challa rubbed his temples slightly, and Shuri offered, glancing at the king.

"If it brings you comfort, then I shall have Okoye and select members of the Dora Milaje to accompany as well. The soldier shall be put into cryostasis at all times except for observations and testing."

Steve looked hopeful, and he pleaded softly, T'Challa staring him down with apprehension.

"You have my full cooperation that if something goes wrong, then I will answer for it. I know that what I am asking for is dangerous, but she was a person too. This woman probably had a whole life before HYDRA took it away...just like they did with Bucky and your father."

Okoye bared her teeth slightly at the mention of the late king, and T'Challa shook his head, humming.

"There is no need to appeal to my sympathy. Shuri has made up her mind, and I have learned long ago that even if I do not agree, she will do what she pleases."

Shuri smirked slightly, joking as she patted his shoulder.

"I'm so glad you understand me."

All the while, Bucky was clenching his fists, hidden beneath his crossed arms. There was no way that this was going to go well, and though there was a part of Bucky that did understand and did agree with what Steve wanted to do, there was another part that understood how incredibly risky this was.

Take it from him: this woman was dangerous, especially since she seemed to still be active on pre-existing orders. It was even riskier given the fact that nobody knew what her orders actually were. Steve glanced over at Bucky as he stared at the ground, and he placed a careful hand on his shoulder.

"Buck, I know I'm asking a lot...but she needs somebody."

"She tried to put a knife through our heads, and you're saying that we owe her?"

Steve frowned, and Bucky couldn't stand to look at him in fear of seeing the disappointment. Feeling under pressure and on-the-spot, Bucky sighed and his shoulders sagged.

"Fine, I'll stay and help, but Steve, if something happens...this one is on you."

Steve looked relieved, and he thanked him quietly, saying as Shuri grinned while Okoye and T'Challa shared a stern look together before Okoye began to whisper to T'Challa quietly.

"I know, and I'm ready to accept that responsibility should it come to that. I just...someone's gotta be looking for her, Bucky."

Bucky just shook his head, muttering.

"We don't know how long HYDRA has had her, so there might not even be anybody to miss her."

"But she deserves a chance to be her own person just like you."

Bucky shared a look with Steve, staring at him for a moment before he groaned.

"I hate it when you do that shit. I already said I would help, I'm just...there's a lot that could go wrong."

Steve countered, nodding his head slightly as he rocked slightly on his heels.

"There's a lot that could go right too."

"Yeah, say that to the killer headache you're gonna have tomorrow."

Steve chuckled slightly, joking.

"Already there, but thanks for the concern."

"Whatever."

Shuri clapped her hands together, saying.

"Well, now that we've got this settled, shall we bring our honored guest into the lab?"

T'Challa hummed, his Black Panther suit appearing as the Dora Milaje immediately stood at the ready as Shuri stood a bit behind T'Challa.

"Be cautious. We don't know know what is going to happen once those doors open."

"No need. She's been completely restrained, there's no way she's gotten out."

Sure enough, when the door to the quinjet opened, the woman was still sitting rigid; staring at the opposite wall. Steve hummed, walking up the steps, and Bucky followed reluctantly.

"Welcome to Wakanda."

Steve said before picking her up by one of her arms, Bucky grabbed a firm hold of the other with his metal arm. With her feet dragging on the ground, it was apparent that she was not going to fight back.

However, that did not stop the Dora Milaje from pointing their spears at her as Steve and Bucky took her inside. As Shuri, T'Challa, and Okoye followed, Shuri voiced to T'Challa gently.

"I will take care in monitoring her behaviors and will let you know the second that I am given any indication that rehabilitation will be unsuccessful."

T'Challa hummed, a slight frown upon his face as he stared at the woman in front of him.

"No need to worry. Should something happen, I am ready to take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of Wakanda."

STORY NOTES: While on the way to Wakanda, Bucky and Steve have attempted to identify the woman by reading through the book that was accompanying her cryostasis pod. However, Bucky's efforts are fruitless. Instead, Bucky discovers the activation words associated with the Winter Soldier and other important details about the history of the soldier.

Reflecting on his time as a Winter Soldier, Bucky begins to become increasingly agitated and worried about the situation. Steve makes an observation on the peculiarity of HYDRA leaving behind a highly-regarded asset when the woman begins to engage the two super soldiers in combat.

Despite Bucky and Steve sustaining significant injuries, they are eventually able to subdue the Winter Soldier by Steve breaking her kneecap with his shield and Bucky further crushing it. Although they question the winter soldier, she becomes withdrawn and silent; refusing to answer any questions.

When they arrive to Wakanda, T'Challa, Shuri, and the Dora Milaje are waiting for them. T'Challa is upset by Steve bringing the seemingly-active Winter Soldier to Wakanda, voicing his concerns on her presence while Steve pleads his case.

Shuri makes a suggestion that Bucky should stay to watch over her because Steve has prior obligations to the Avengers. Bucky adamantly refuses, but Steve manages to convince Bucky to stay in Wakanda to not only protect the people, but to be there for the woman should Shuri's methods be successful.

Shuri then suggests to bring the Winter Soldier to her lab, and the two Avengers begin to escort her inside, T'Challa and the Dora Milaje ready to engage should the Winter Soldier try to fight. Shuri reassures T'Challa that she will alert him as soon as she possibly can if something goes wrong, and T'Challa reassures Shuri that if the Winter Soldier escapes and causes harm that he is willing to kill her to ensure the safety of Wakanda. End Scene.

Well, look at that!

Due to the numerous responses to this post, and since things have become a little cluttered there (different reblog threads, some recs are in tags or in comments, etc), I thought it would be a shame if anything got lost. So, I decided to compile a list of all the submitted recs for Stucky fics that also feature Peter Parker. Of course, I couldn't help myself and added a rec of my own. 🕸 Praetorian by RecoveringTheSatellites | 28K, M | part 1 of 2 in Amor Manet series Historical AU featuring Bucky as a pagan witch, Steve as a disgraced former Praetorian Guard, and Peter as a young recruit to the Roman army. Maybe a bit of a cheat, since Peter is not central to the story, but in the moments he does appear, he definitely makes an impression, and what we get to see of his mentor-mentee relationship with Steve really resonates. Also, look, this is just a banger of a fic with lots of action and romance that everyone should read.

I've seen people try to excuse it by claiming Steve created a new timeline where he fixed everything horrible that happened in his timeline but:

you can't claim that a movie portrays something when it literally physically does not. Not only is Steve creating a new timeline not shown in the movie it's not even referenced, not even in a single throwaway line of dialogue!

(You wouldn't need to make shit up to say Steve did it to explain things if the ending had actually made sense as-shown and been in-character. Ditto showing us a Peggy who's supposed to be in her 50s but doesn't look it -- because that would highlight how fucking weird this whole thing is -- while ignoring that she's working in a "quasi-fascistic black site." Steve going cruising for GILFs in a Hydra base? It's like something out of Deadpool it's so moronic.)

Even if Steve had egotistically made a new timeline, that still doesn't address the fact that a lot of those horrible things in the original timeline happened because of Peggy, the person we're supposed to believe Steve would give a shut up ring. She hired both Zola and Fennhoff to SHIELDra -- jointly responsible for the Winter Soldier and the rise of Hydra in the 20th century. So how can Steve be 'fixing' the horrifying timeline while married to the person responsible for the horror? Is he going back to teach Peggy how to be an actual good person? To poison the wedding cake??

Even if he had made a new timeline, that still means Steve abandoned 'his' Bucky to go and protect a version of Bucky who doesn't have all of his Bucky's trauma, and marry the person responsible for it... Which is just. despicably cruel.

(And that's before you add on that it leaves Bucky alone, as the 'man out of time', the only person in the future who remembers 'their' time, which Steve's whole ending depends on us believing is a terrible thing to happen to you. But it's fine if Steve did that to Bucky...? Is it in-character for Steve to get Bucky back from the dead and then immediately ditch him in the cruelest way imaginable?)

On top of burdening Sam with a difficult legacy, with no thanks and no help for the transition, Steve's ending also means he has done nothing to bring Natasha back from the dead, despite having all six magical stones that can do anything including bringing people back from the dead. And old-Steve, in their present, also did nothing about any of his friend's problems.

On top of which, Steve's ending (returning all the Infinity Stones from the place and time they were taken) means he met with Red Skull, aka the Nazi so extreme he thought Adolf Hitler was mid, who had just murdered Natasha... and instead of fighting him, Steve gave him an Infinity Stone? (Is it in-character for Steve to quite literally empower Nazis and ignore that they murdered his personal friends?)

Since day 1, the MCU has been chipping away at Steve's decent characterisation with this subplot of 'okay yeah he's saved the world and made friends or whatever 🙄 but does it really count as happiness unless he has also attained pussy in a god-honouring way??' 🤩

And annoying as that was, it was more or less tolerable because they kept the rest of him in-character.

But that shit collapses if he isn't otherwise 90% in-character and the plot completely salts and burn every established trait just to make comphet happen.

Guys, I know it was five years ago but Steve’s ending still makes me so mad, like are you seriously going to tell me that he left to go live a life with Peggy and didnt even try to stop the pain and torture that he knew his best friend since childhood was enduring?? I can kind of get over him living with peggy, like, I get it, he’d been fighting his whole life and he just wanted some peace, and if living with peggy meant peace for him than that’s understandable, but the fact that he knew what was happening to bucky and did nothing to stop it, despite fighting tooth and nail to protect him ever since he learned he was alive, just doesn’t sit right with me

My Irondad fic recs!

I thought of doing this because why not? Admittedly, I'm not reading as much fanfiction as I did a couple years ago, but some fics have changed my life entirely. In case I forgot one, I'll add it later!

I would’ve organized this in a bullet list, but Tumblr hates me and invented a character limit for that. So this is going to be long and will be under the cut. Anyway, let’s do this!

Rare and Sweet As Cherry Wine by loubuttons – I've mentioned this one before, but this fic right here was what inspired me to write my own Irondad works. One very particular detail I like about it is how it portrays Maria, Tony's mother. It's not what I usually see in other fics about Tony's childhood, since they tend to make Howard the big bad parent. Of course, this is because I personally related to it, as I don't believe in the "bad parent vs. good parent". I also like that it praises Edwin Jarvis as the one who looked out for Tony the most. It's pretty realistic and a very melancholic character study, IMO. *TW for abuse and neglect*

You're Always Iron Man by madasthesea – a very short fic but I absolutely love the premise. Takes place after the big battle in Iron Man 2, and Tony finds little Peter again. They have a very endearing interaction. The following chapter is also very cute!

Nothing like a fresh cup of humiliation in the morning by madasthesea – Pure fluff! This one is probably a classic in the Irondad fandom. Tony kisses Peter's forehead without second thought. Shenanigans ensue. It's so adorable and funny. If you just want to read fluff without angst, this one is for you.

when my body won't hold me anymore (where will I go) by madasthesea - I think I heard about this fic thanks to @/irondadfics here on Tumblr, but I might be wrong since I already knew the Nice work, kid series. Anyway, Peter is believed to be dead, so Tony (and the rest of the Avengers team) is mourning him. In reality, Peter is astral projecting. You know, sort of like how Stephen Strange, in his first movie, was fighting a guy in the other dimension while his body on Earth was struggling to live. That's basically what happens. Strange appears, of course, and saves the day. And I pretty much LOVE the presumed dead trope. I don't know why. Maybe it's the angst of it all. *TW for grief/mourning and temporary character death*

The Reason by doctornineandthreequarters – I think I read this one when I was still writing Oh, take me back to the start. I was looking for fics for inspiration, and I found this one. During the Time Heist in Endgame, Tony remembers the reason he's fighting to bring everyone else back. It's very emotional.

Couch Cuddles by happyaspie – Classic sickfic, but with more fluff than anything. I like rereading it when I feel lonely and touch-starved, especially when I'm also sick like Peter.

You’re So Much Like Me (I’m Sorry) by SpaceCowboysFromMars – Irondad + Miles Morales! Peter is an adult in this, and he freaks out when an injured Miles arrives in his apartment. Tony gives him some wisdom about mentoring and parenting. I don’t usually find Irondad stories featuring Miles (and not necessarily a Spider-Verse crossover), so this was a nice discovery. Peter & Miles & Tony is a very underrated trio IMO. *TW for slight gore*

I'm Glad I Have You by punkybunny – Peter has been having a rough time, dealing with loneliness as Aunt May is not home often, and with bullying at school... until he finally has the chance to spend time with Tony. However, the demons don't disappear completely. Obviously, more Hurt/Comfort, lmao. *TW for nightmare/bad dream*

I Want to Trust You by punkybunny – Actually part of a series that, admittedly, I haven't read all the other stories. But even this one is a very interesting concept on its own. This is a Hydra Peter AU, after Peter has been rescued. He gets sick but given his past in Hydra, he thinks Tony is going to get angry. Peter is proven wrong when Tony helps him get better. The ending is very adorable. I'll see if I can read the rest of the series one day. *TW for past abuse and experimentation*

what you think I've done wrong by ironxprince – I don't often read Biodad stories as you all know, but I was, again, looking for inspiration for You keep me searching for a heart of gold, and I stumbled across this one. Basically Peter, as Tony's biological son, finally meets Howard. It goes as well as you think /sarcasm. *TW for physical abuse*

i, in time, will climb my mountain by ironxprince – This one is heavy. Once again, Peter is Tony's bio son, and he's suicidal. Every time Peter attempts suicide, he buys a new plant. Tony doesn't know this, so he's confused as to why there are so many plants in their house. I love this one, but of course, I try to read it when I’m not having a really bad day. *Once again, TW for suicide attempts*

how do you get that lonely (and nobody knows?) by parkrstark – Yeah... another heavy one. Peter attempts suicide but he saves himself before he reaches the ground. With that, he goes to Tony. This ends happily, don't worry. *TW for suicide attempt*

When You Can't Sleep by Emily_F6 – Pretty much Tony comforting a sleepy Peter, who has just had a nightmare about Thanos. Just Hurt/Comfort and domestic fluff. *TW for mention of death*

i get by (but it's eating me alive) by Livinei – Honestly, I think this is the BEST May's Abusive Boyfriend story I've ever read. For one, none of the characters are oblivious nor dismissive of Peter's feelings. May isn't neglectful and Ned actually tries to encourage Peter to tell someone. I also like that Peter isn't completely helpless. I don't usually see those things in other fics with this trope, sadly. And of course, Protective Tony is my weakness. *TW for emotional and physical abuse*

Hold Me Together by An_Odd_Idea – Post-Endgame where Tony is alive, and Peter and Tony are both trying to cope, so they rely on each other. Pure Hurt/Comfort.

A Tremendous Thing by ExpectoPatronum – Possibly one of my favorite Irondad stories EVER. Also post-Endgame with Alive Tony (though the author better explains it in the notes, it's supposed to be part of a series, but this story can be read on its own). There are a lot of references to Charlotte's Web if you're familiar with it. Basically, it's Father's Day and Peter is feeling guilty and out of place at Tony's lake house, even though everyone is readily trying to include him. It's absolutely beautiful and painful.

Hug You I Must by spiderwriting (catch_you_later) – Probably one of the first touch-starved Peter fics I've read. I like how it describes touch-starvation as this "itchy" current in your body, something that makes you anxious. Thankfully, Peter gets his hug later on. Plus there are some Star Wars references (the title probably is one, lol). *There's some minor violence here when Peter is fighting off some bad guys, but not the focus of the fic*

When You're There With No One There To Hold, I'll Be The Arms That Reach For You by Squibbles94 – Another touch-starved Peter fic. But I really like the references to Cast Away. Ironically I saw this movie in the same year the author published this fic (dare I say SHORTLY after it was posted). I also had no idea that Cast Away was entirely about isolation. Gosh, the main character's monologue at the end ALWAYS gets to me... anyway, yeah, the peak of the pandemic was awful to me, so reading fics like this one helped tons. It still does.

I am cold by N/A (orphan account) – Peter tries to visit Tony, but he gets lost in a subway tunnel on a freezing day. Eventually we learn why Peter wanted to see Tony, but overall this is mainly domestic fluff. Everything ends well.

Sorry Pedro by PinkEasterEggs – One of the first Irondad fics I read. Peter has a nightmare about Homecoming (mainly Toomes), but he avoids waking Tony for that reason. But thanks to F.R.I.D.A.Y's protocols, Peter goes to his mentor. Tony is also super soft here and it makes my heart swoon.

you are enough by diaz_evan – Another post-Endgame fic. Arguably I began reading Irondad fics only after Endgame released. Anyway, this one is short, kinda sad but it ends well. It’s Tony’s birthday and Peter feels very anxious about what to get him as a present. Thankfully, he doesn’t need to prove his love for Tony. *TW for panic attack*

Happy Father’s Day, Mr. Stark by downeylove – There are a lot of Father’s Day fics for these two, of course, but this one takes the cake for me. It’s simple but very endearing to me. Tony obviously doesn’t have good memories of this day, but Peter changes that for the first time. It’s really cute. Plus, Pepper is here, and I love her. I wish I could read more of her interacting with Peter. *TW for mentions of alcoholism and past child abuse*

5 Times Peter Didn’t Say He Was Struggling… And The One Time He Did by Bladam_Shevine – Again, an old fic I read years ago. I admit I haven’t re-read it in a while, but I remember enjoying it and even saving it to read offline. It’s basically what it says in the title: Peter struggles in many ways and he initially refuses help. Tony is always there to reassure him he can count on him. Bruce is here if you like him! And MJ helps Peter on one of the chapters as well. The chapters might get heavier as they go, but it ends on a hopeful note. *TW for injury, panic attack, suicide attempt (it doesn’t involve Peter), and depression*

The Good Days and the Bad by SoupGirlLovesSoup - Peter has had a bad day, now he's cuddling with Tony. It takes a while before Peter finally tells him what happened. It gets sad, but it's mostly fluff and it ends hopefully. I love re-reading it when I need the comfort. *TW for mention of suicide attempt, depression, and bullying*

Breathe Again by gwenoakley - Post-Endgame where Tony survives. He's recovering in the hospital and Peter finally reunites with him. Before that, though, we can feel the anxiety and trauma Peter feels. Definitely makes me emotional. It's the ending they deserved.

Popsicles and Playgrounds by ironfamjam - I can't believe I forgot to save this one in my bookmarks. I used to re-read this all the time! It's an AU where MIT student Tony meets a kid Peter. Eventually, Tony becomes Peter's babysitter! This is part of a series, which I still have to read fully. It's such a wholesome idea!! <3 *Howard's bad parenting is mostly mentioned*

I think I also could make a list of what particular concepts I want to read more in Irondad stories, so maybe you guys could give me your own recs. I’ve been talking about this a lot with Garnet and this has the potential to become a beast, so I’m gonna do a quick rundown of roles in the AU - if you want to know anything about it just send me an ask!!! Will help motivate me to write 🥴

- they all compete in ice dance rather than pairs skating (no chucking each other around like pancakes)

- the national trains are older champions and now the coaches for the various skaters - Rusty’s coach is Brexit (known in this as Prince, or by his full title, the Prince of Wales since he’s a Welsh dude called William), Pearl’s coach is Ruhrgold

- Rusty and Pearl have been skating together since Juniors, and Ruhrgold has hated his guts since he first laid eyes on him

- Momma runs the Troubadour skating rink, a big former tv studio that was up for sale or get demolished. She’s a former Olympic figure skater who took Rusty under her wing when he was a kid and inspired him to skate

- Also based out of the Troubadour is the Brent Butchers, an amateur hockey team trying to make it big. They’re comprised of the various freight trucks. Slick, Lumber, and Porter play forwards (centre, left, and right wing respectively), Dustin and flat top play Defencemen, Hydra plays goaltender. Slick was originally told she had to wait for a woman’s team, rocked up one day with a forged birth certificate, and has been coming for people’s kneecaps ever since. The rockies are mascots. Only Dustin is referred to by his actual name; everyone else has these nicknames that just stuck. No one actually knows what Flat Top’s name is.

- Hydra is a lab technician for a local hydroponics nursery, and plays hockey in their free time. He used to dance as a kid, but couldn’t be the dancer his coaches wanted him to be so gave it up (👀🏳️‍⚧️)

- Rusty is a massive sap who has fallen in love at first sight before and WILL do it again

- Greasey and Dinah are a well known pair from the US of A, and Greaseball paid the judges to bend the rules to let her dance with another woman. She was technically born in ROI, so uses that as an excuse to dance on both sides of the pond. Dinah is a genuine dual national

- Electra kicks Coco’s ass (daughter of French Olympic icon Bobo) in some French nationals, but has a reputation for churning through dance partners like butter; they’re incredibly experienced and take a lot of risks, so push their partners into intense routines that they’re often not ready for.

"Only ones that have connections to known vigilantes." That part wasn't Bucky's fault. He would never have tried to organize a meeting with Ian. Too many of the witnesses that came in here never made it out again to risk that. He couldn't stop it when he found out about it, but he could make sure he was the one in charge of his questioning. And maybe get a message to Steve about what was coming.

He pulled the chair out across from his and slid into it, elbows resting on the metal table. The slightest tension eased out of him when the light on the camera blinked once, signaling the feed disruption had kicked in. "The sound just cut out on the cameras. We've got a few minutes. If you're going to react, act like I'm still threatening you. I didn't organize you being brought in, but someone suspects you've still got a connection to Steve. You need to be careful. Next time they come for you, it's not going to be for a friendly chat. You run, get underground, do whatever you have to."

12. Are there any tropes you used to dislike but have grown on you?

can i say jayroy. a lot of my early exposure to jason todd meta was anti-rhato and thus anti-jayroy by extension. i don't think i ever quite found myself agreeing with those posts necessarily but it did put me off the ship for like a week or something. anyway i like jayroy and i think they should kiss.

crossover fic also!! which is a little silly because i got into the fandom through crossover fic. only to immediately start filtering them out. still don't see the hype around mlb & dp, (perhaps my fault for not testing them out lol,) but marvel crossovers where jason gets involved with the avengers and/or hydra? wc x dc crossovers where one of the batkids is neal caffrey have managed to be consistently fun. i'm reading a criminal minds crossover right now that has me obsessed. do i know anything about criminal minds? no.

13. Are there any tropes you used to like but don’t anymore?

oh i have fallen out of love with so many fanon tropes. it is devastating it is a tragedy. truly where do i start.

alfred as jason's favorite. particularly as the one whose requests finally gets him to cave to the batfam's whims. tbh i don't think i ever liked this lol he always made the resolution way too easy. what if i want them to fight more!!

15. What’s your favorite AU that you’ve written?

the only aus i ever really write are canon divergence. genuinely massive amounts of respect to people who are able to write their favs into zombie apocalypses or space westerns or civilian coffee shops. i cannot.

favorite au is the blended dishonored-inspired wings of fire oc-verse that people need to be hm. about five friendship levels deep to start unlocking. just know i am dreaming about how many homoerotic fights these dragons are having.

favorite au that people can actually see and read about would be lies of omission's au-verse, easily. i built that thing to appeal to me specifically. it has essence. it has complicated batfam dynamics that they somehow make work (although they admittedly are not working very well at the moment). it has jason who cannot fucking stay dead. good for him.

"Thank you for coming into the clinic today," Zarius says cheerfully, "What are you seeing you for today, cousin?"

"I'm here for my annual physical," Chrad says in a dull, bored tone of voice as he marches to sit at, "even though we are on Ancient Terra and I haven't seen active combat in months."

"Well, its in the Codex Astartes," Zarius says his eyes sparkling a tad to mischievously as he piously quotes chapter and verse of the Codex Astartes on such a thing, being a dutiful loyal Ultramarine and Son of Guilliman that he is.

While Chrad just give him that blankly impatient Son of Dorn look as he crosses his arms over his chest and arches an eyebrow at his 'cousin'.

They do the annual physical exam and have a completely normal conversation and nothing odd happens in that exam room. Zarius does manage to slip something into one of his pockets.

Which he pretends he doesn't notice as he finishes doing the last of the tests and is given a full and clean bill of health and is genially shooed out of the exam room and heads back to his roving loyalist warband.

He takes out the message and inputs it into the portable cogitator and starts to decrypt the message and encode another one- and sends the relevant information on up the chain of Hydra as their missions in this area are updated and change slightly in some ways.

Jaws Under Hydra

Summary: [JAWS AU] This ask was hiding from me, I swear! But it's here now *finger guns*. Anteeways, this is a pretty important cornerstone of Jaws life, to get a bit more on what they were like before they met earth's mightiest heroes and before they met they're redheaded paramour, so I figure I'd give it a proper heading y'know? But onward and upward!

I spoke briefly about Jaws' life under HYDRA in the very first part of the JAWS AU, but let's see here...

Jaws' life under HYDRA was a lonely one to say the least. They were basically alone and in pain for the first half a year post-first procedure while they got used to the adamantium coating their skull. We're talking consistent headaches and migraines. Like the pulsing in your face and teeth when you have a sinus infection but dialed up to eleven.

That being said, Jaws' life as a subject of HYDRA was still a lot better than a lot of others we know and are familiar with. They were fed regularly, had decent clothes, got a small semblance of an education (granted it was highly biased in favor of what HYDRA wanted Jaws to know and learn)... essentially the bare minimum. This is in part due to two factors: how young Jaws was when they were captured and brought into the facility, and also who was in charge of them. That being Doctor Faustus.

Johann Fennhoff didn't need to use torture or physical abuse to get Jaws under his thumb, even with their explosive temper. He was better versed in psychological warfare, and simply used methods of mental manipulation to condition Jaws to be complacent in following his instruction... with mixed results.

It was easier to control Jaws when they were younger and more impressionable. They were always a bit hardheaded, but they listened better. much like Bucky when he was under HYDRA, Faustus used activation words and repeated phrases to cooperate. As Jaws got older and eventually became an adult, simple hypnosis wasn't effective anymore and Faustus had to progress to using hallucinogens that were more and more potent. This worked better, but they made Jaws more irritable on the come down.

The final form of Faustus' hallucinogenic gas was one that left Jaws vulnerable to hypnotic suggestion. Same methodology as the old stuff, but stronger and more refined than the new stuff. Jaws wasn't fully aware of what was happening around them when the chemical invaded their system, but the rage fueled by the fear that gripped them when the foreign substance started to flush out of their system was not a pleasant experience.

Whether Jaws realized it or not, the longer they were exposed to the hallucinogen, the more they were growing immune to it's effects, which led to the break in control at the beginning of the JAWS AU when the Avengers encountered the tiger shark mutant.

Faustus kept Jaws in isolation the majority of the time while they were in the HYDRA facility. The most they got to see of the other agents and experiments was during missions, since even Jaws' trainings were privatized. In a lot of ways, Jaws was Faustus' cash cow; they got the job done efficiently, and at that moment in time, Jaws was satisfied with having their bloodlust satiated being their reward for a successful mission.

It was also Doctor Faustus that pushed Jaws to commit cannibalism while they were still young. Jaws was well fed compared to other subjects under the Asphalt facility because unfortunately disposable people are in no short supply among HYDRA. Be they failed subjects or experiments or hostages that had outlived their usefulness. For better or worse, Jaws didn't have any real moral hang ups about that until they left HYDRA.

It's fair to say that Jaws became a bit of a glutton during their time under HYDRA. The promise that they could inflict pain was their main motivating factor (their general distaste toward human beings was cultivated more into hatred as the years went by). Getting their lunch on top of it was just a bonus, really.

Jaws has always been averse to being around people for extended periods of time and was easily provoked, so they preferred to be alone to float in their saltwater tank most of the time.

Just alone with their thoughts. The water sloshing around them... in their soundproofed tank... with their eyes closed.

The few people that Jaws interacted with consistently were the scientists responsible for surveilling the mutant and reporting behaviors back to Doctor Faustus.

They were around a lot more when Jaws was just a kid and they were basically glorified babysitters, but as Jaws got older, they were stand-ins for guards/therapists/parental figures/friends/ whatever Faustus needed them to be for his haifisch to progress as he wanted.

Jaws didn't have many personal belongings and had virtually no sense of self when they were fully sentient. They functioned solely off of the pursuit of survival, and because Jaws wasn't around people long enough to care about them, they were a million times more apathetic than we're more familiar with them being in current days. It was less from a place of "I don't care what you have to say, I'm gonna do what I want" and more so "Meat sacks shouldn't talk so much."

I can't say that Jaws forged any meaningful connections while under the New York Asphalt facility, and they weren't fully aware of what was going on around them half of the time. It was a blurred cycle of sleeping, killing, testing and improvements over and over again.

I think the culture shock Jaws had after leaving HYDRA should be studied actually. Jaws didn't have too much of a clue what was out there in the world (having only faint memories of their life back on Enoka as an infant at this point), but there had to be a latent yearning for more than what their life was for them to actually try and adjust to "normal" society after being freed.

I’m always up to ask a shieldra AU question!! Do you think that the crew would be able to get themselves together in time for the Chitauri invasion? If they did or did not, how do you think they would handle it?

In terms of personality and dynamics, yeah, the core OG6 Avengers team would be able to get themselves together -- the dynamics are a little different because of the circumstances of the universe, and different background means that there are other big differences: Tony, because he hasn't been publicly acting as Iron Man, doesn't have as much fighting experience, and Thor doesn't have Mjolnir and is still depowered. (Though he'd get his powers/strength/etc back over the course of the story a la Ragnarok.) Steve on the other hand has a lot more experience in the present day because he's been out with the STRIKE teams, and he's been working closely with Natasha so they have a preexisting relationship. Clint and Natasha don't have the teamwork experience that they have in canon, because Natasha's been undercover with HydraSHIELD and Clint's been with realSHIELD almost the entire time since Natasha defected, since the divergence point is very soon after her defection in 2008. The AU does not affect the fact that Steve and Tony instantly do not vibe with each other at all and almost certainly makes it worse, since Tony can throw "you didn't realize you were working for Hydra for six months" in his face. Bruce is basically fine; the only difference there is that realSHIELD dragged him in earlier for non-Tesseract reasons because it was safer than hoping HydraSHIELD wouldn't get him.

Were the invasion to happen as it does in canon, or at least the Battle of New York part, that's fine; the team can handle that without breaking a sweat. It would have other repercussions because that would obviously drag both realSHIELD and HydraSHIELD up into the public eye and that makes everything go pear-shaped there. The flip side is that the events of The Avengers can't happen in this 'verse because the divergence point is so early (IM1), so it knocks forward to affect the events of Thor, so Loki doesn't end up with Thanos, which means the entire train of events in A1 can't happen. (There are ways I could arrange things so that A1 does happen, but I don't want the alien invasion to interfere with the HydraSHIELD stuff...)

If you're anti JKR then you wouldn't be playing in her sandbox. There's so many better options as AUS.

In engaging with her work, even as an AU, you are actively promoting it. Yes. That would fall under my DNI.

I don't wanna make it like I'm trying to force folk to choose between their writing and plotting with me-- but this is a hard boundary that I will not budge on.

To reiterate: actually being Anti JKR is refusing to interact with her creation until that wicked witch is dead. It's impossible to separate the art from the artist here-- you cannot have HP without JKR, no matter how loudly you decry her.

There are a lot of other series out there with magical school houses and big supernatural wars you can play into. The Magnus Archives, The Stormlight Archives, and World of Darkness are all fine examples. [Shoutout to @eclipsecrowned for compiling this list].

You want outright magic? Marvel and DC both have it in scores. You can even make your own AU within the confines of those realities and have it be wizard Avengers VS evil wizard Hydra.

At the end of the day the question is this: Which do you care about more? Trans people or nostalgia?

Shield have infiltrated the final hydra base, where Katya is being held, in order to rescue her

Her current handler was an undercover shield agent named Nikolai Kirovsky actually treated her well and like a normal kid - purposely extended missions to let her experience some normal life whilst he fed information back to shield

The day arrived for shield to strike and whilst escaping he is shot by a hydra agent and as he’s dying he gives her the whole ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ speech

Present Day: (Everyone survived Endgame AU)

Lives in Brooklyn with her dad and Steve (retired and Sam Wilson is Captain America)

He and Steve call her ‘Kat’ but Bucky calls her ‘KitKat’ to jokingly annoy her

Is adjusting the a normal life and actually attending high school

Her way of making amends for what she was made to do is to use her powers to patrol the streets to keep them safe from crime
