STAR BRIGHT - THE FIRST SON OF LIGHT EPISODE 1: ANOTHER DAY IN THE SKIES
INSIDE OF A PENTHOUSE SUITE IN CHARISMA, CITY…
“I’m glad you had a good time too, Natina.” Hunter says into his phone, sitting at a table covered with papers and a monitor in front of him. Hunter has blond, short, neat, feathered hair. His eyes are dark grey, his nose is sharp, and his lips are thin and pink. The light stubble on his chin extends all the way to his upper jaw. Hunter’s wearing a blue shirt with “Gordax The Eater” written on it in bloody font, light blue jeans and white sneakers.
~By the by, are you coming in to work today?~ Natina asks, worried.
“No, I’m coming in to work, I just have a few errands to take care of here at home.” He tells.
~A few errands.~ Natina asks with skepticism in her voice.
“Yeah, more personal errands.” He adds, grinning.
~You know you also have T.E.S.T. Labs to run too, right?~
“Yeah, I know, but this can’t wait, ok?” He continues as he takes the phone from his ear and places it onto the table. “I assure you Natina, this is extremely important.” He says to the phone as he starts to type. “You hear that, that’s the sound of hard work at home.” He states, proudly.
~Alright, Hunter. I’m in traffic right now, so just be sure to take the back roads so you can make it there before me. The last thing you want to do is make your mom mad for being late, again.~ Natina says through the speaker.
“Me and my mom are on great terms.” Hunter tells as he starts typing on the keyboard.
~…That’s why I said, ‘the last thing you want to do is make your mom mad, again’.~ Natina reiterates.
“I know.” Hunter answers as he uses his mouse to scroll down the screen, distracted.
~What’s A squared plus B squared?~ Natina asks.
“I know, babe.” Hunter answers, diverted.
~I knew you weren’t listening.~ Natina says. ~What are you distracted with, Hunter?~ She asks as there’s no answer. ~Hunter?~ She asks as Hunter snaps back to reality.
“Oh, I’m sorry, sweetheart.” Hunter apologizes.
~Please, Hunter, don’t make the same mistakes again. That’s all I’m trying to tell you.” Natina adds sincerely. Hunter stops scrolling and sighs.
“Alright, Natina. I’ll come to work on time.” Hunter complies. Steps are heard behind Hunter as he quickly sets his phone to “mute”. Hunter turns in his chair to a shining metal man whose skin is a complete chrome-silver with a well-toned body. He sports short organic brown hair in the style of a brush cut. He has a subtle nose, thin lips, and turquoise eyes. Instead of toes, his feet are angular-shaped and he’s wearing a distinctive, bright, teal cape.
“What’s going on Ma-“
~I’m happy that you understand.~ Natina continues speaking through the phone as Hunter jumps a bit. He grabs his phone and unmutes it.
“Yes sweetheart, I’ll see you in a bit, love you, kiss kiss!” He quickly says before hanging up the phone. He puts the phone on the table and turns in his chair, back to Max.
“What’s going on, Max?” Hunter asks.
“Hunter, There is a situation at T.E.S.T. Labs. According to police radios, there is a man on the roof of T.E.S.T. Labs and is contemplating suicide.” Max tells.
“WHAT? Shit ok, I’m going!” Hunter bursts before rushing out of his chair. On his monitor, there is a long list of collectible monster cards with “Zodiac Combatants Home Page” at the top. He rushes to the black leather couch that sits in front of a widescreen T.V and searches around the expensive coffee table. “Where’s my Suitpack, Max?” Hunter asks, distraught.
“It’s on the balcony, by the pool” Max informs as Hunter rushes for the sliding glass doors on the other end of the room.
“I’LL REACH YOU ON THE COMMS IN A BIT!” Hunter preps as he opens the sliding doors and runs onto the huge balcony. There is a large swimming pool with 2 chairs, umbrellas and dry folded towels next to it. Hunter spots a black metallic backpack next to the towels and sprints to it. Putting it over his shoulders. He crosses his arms over his body, pressing his thumbs against the straps. The backpack activates, starting to scale over Hunter’s body in an exoskeletal battle suit. After the suit covers Hunter’s entire body, his visor descends over his entire face as the star on his chest emits a bright yellow glow. Star Bright runs and leaps over the edge of the balcony as his back boosters explode, rocketing Star Bright into the deep blue sky as Max watches from the glass doors.
“How are the officers doing?” Star Bright asks in his British accent, soaring through the skies.
~They have not been effective.~ Max answers. ~He has not moved since our conversation.
“Shet, hopefully I can chat him down.”
MOMENTS LATER…
“Max, I’m approaching T.E.S.T. Labs, let me know if anything changes.” Star Bright requests, slowing in speeds to the tallest building in Charisma.
~Affirmative.~ Max answers. Flying down from the skies, Star Bright approaches T.E.S.T. Labs. The Building is in an “H” shape with a beautiful courtyard outside, complete with a fountain spewing water around a statue of Earth with benches surrounding it. Surrounding the front of T.E.S.T. Labs are a huge line of police cars and officers holding back bystanders with yellow barricades along with a few choppers hovering around the top.
“You don’t have to jump, sir. You have plenty to live for!” An officer yells into his megaphone. Everyone on the ground spots Star Bright and chatters as some point as soon as they see him. Star Bright spots the dot on the edge of one of the rooftops and descends to their level. Star Bright’s visor rises just above his mouth as he and the man lock eyes. The choppers flying around the building begin to back off a bit, their sound waning in volume.
The man is Caucasian. He has brown feathered hair, a 5’o clock shadow and shades that cover his eyes. His nose his bold, his lips are thin and his chin is strong. He’s wearing a dark red long sleeved shirt and dark red pants and boots. He’s also wearing a matching dark red backpack.
“Hey.” Star Bright starts, sincerely, levitating.
“Hey.” The man answers with a saddened face.
“Is it ok if a float here?” Star Bright asks with a grin.
“Yeah… yeah.” The man answers with a slight grin of his own.
“AH! I just made you smile, so now you have to tell me what’s wrong!” Star Bright tells, smiling.
“My job. My family. My life…” He answers.
“Where do you work?” Star asks.
“I’m not permitted to tell you.” He answers.
“And I’m guessing since you work for a secret organization, I’m guessing that’s how you lost your family?” Star Bright sleuths.
“What do you think?” He answers
“I’m… I’m sorry.” Star Bright genuinely tells.
“It’s fine…” The man answers.
“It is?” Star Bright asks.
“No, but since I can still smile, I guess it isn’t that bad.” The man says.
“Don’t say that. Just because you smile doesn’t mean you’re ok all of a sudden. I’m not trying to tell you that you can never be happy, but a smile doesn’t mean all your problems are minuscule. You have legit reasons for being upset or you wouldn’t be upset in the first place, chap. But that doesn’t mean you have to go it alone.” Star Bright extends his hand. “Come on, let’s get you some help. I’ll even fly you down.” Star Bright tells. The man exhales and walks over to Star Bright.
“So, you’re the famous Star Bright huh?” The man asks as Star Bright smiles proudly.
“Yeah, I am.” Star Bright answers as he and the man grip each other’s hand. “And you are?”
“Yo Mama.” He answers with a smirk. Star Bright looks on in confusion before his suit deactivates.
“What the FUCK!?” Star Bright blurts as he plummets towards the ground as bystanders and officers scream and run for cover. “MAX! MAX! CAN YOU HEAR ME! MAX!” Star Bright calls but there is no answer. Winds grow louder as Star Bright continues to fall to his fate.

REAPER - THE VICIOUS VIGILANTE EPISODE 2: REAPER VS MAGARAC
IN THE DARK PARKING LOT OF AN ABANDONED STEEL MILL…
“I’m giving you your first and last warning, Magarac. Leave this life now while you still have legs to carry your body.” Reaper warns as Magarac continues to walk towards Reaper.
“You will never win. I’m the hero.” Magarac tells as he clenches his fist. Reaper grips his scythe tighter.
“Then you will die like a hero.” He states before he takes off running at the steel man. Magarac stands his ground then throws a punch. Reaper slides under the punch and rams the staff end of his scythe into the back of Magarac’s knee. Magarac falls to one knee as Reaper throws his leg across Magarac’s head. Magarac falls over to the gravel, gritting his teeth as Reaper leaps into the air. Magarac rolls out of the way as Reaper drives his knee into the concrete, denting it. Reaper gets up to his feet then runs at Magarac before swinging his leg at his face. Magarac, on one knee, catches the kick as Reaper gasps. Magarac holds tight on Reaper’s leg then drives his arm through Reapers leg, breaking it.
“ARGGGHHHH!” Reaper yells before Magarac drops Reapers leg and comes up with thunderous a punch to Reaper’s face, sending Reaper across the lot and through the old, rotting, walls of the steel mill.
The mill is large in size. There are a plethora of stair cases leading up and down the entire mill. There is a line of batch furnaces along the walls and continuous furnaces smelting metal ingots that roll on its belt. There are filthy, scrawny men and women sluggishly working these machines with others stumbling around on the second story walkways. They all flinch as Reaper flies into the room from above, all gasping. Reaper picks himself up but screams as his broken leg gives way under his weight. He looks at his leg then around the mill, seeing all the hostages.
“WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU STANDING AROUND FOR?” Reaper yells. “GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!” He commands.
“We can’t!” One woman speaks up. Magarac smelted all the doors shut. We’re stuck here…” explains. Reaper turns around and looks at a set of doors melted shut under an “exit” sign.
“Shit.” Reaper says aloud before he sees Magarac jumps through the hole he made with Reaper. “Shit squared.” Reaper utters to himself as Magarac walks towards him, his steps vibrating. Reaper spins on the floor and trips Magarac with his good leg before kicking him in the face, making Magarac spin-slide across the floor. As Magarac hits a nearby furnace, Reaper looks at his leg, gritting his teeth. Grabbing it, Reaper yanks it with a loud snap, making him grunt in agony soon after. Reaper starts to get up to his feet but Magarac comes with a huge running front-kick to Reaper’s chest, sending Reaper flying into a furnace as well.
Magarac sprints for Reaper and throws a huge punch for Reaper’s chest. Reaper dodges the blow as Magarac punches through the furnace, dislodging the smelting metal onto the floor. Reaper spin kicks Magarac in the back of the leg, dropping him to one knee then pushes Magarac’s face into the fountain of the smelting metals. Magarac screams in agony for a short bit before elbowing Reaper in the stomach. Reaper loses his wind as he holds his stomach, backing up. Magarac, now possessing a partially melted face, swings his fist across Reaper’s face, knocking Reaper’s mask off.
Reaper scrambles to regain his balance but he's met with another thunderous punch to his face. Reaper spins before he hits the floor, white blood trickling from the side of his mouth, his lip swelling. Reaper stands back up to his feet and returns with a blow of his own to Magarac’s face, stumbling the giant but Magarac quickly returns with another swing. Reaper ducks under the punch and catches Magarac with two body punches and an uppercut, stumbling Magarac once again.
Magarac catches Reaper’s punch then drives his other fist into Reaper’s face, but doesn’t let Reaper’s hand go. Reaper, nose starting to drip with blood, is hit once again, spewing blood from his face. Reaper goes for a swing but Magarac blocks it with his free arm and quickly tucks it under his arm pit. Reaper drives his knee between him and the metal man, trying to push away but Magarac still doesn’t let go. Magarac comes down with a head-butt with his melted jagged face but Reaper moves his head aside and under Magarac’s other armpit then uses the power of his legs to lift Magarac up and over his shoulders, slamming him onto the floor, shattering the concrete beneath them.
Magarac lets Reaper go as Reaper sluggishly rolls across the floor and up to his feet. Reaper drearily looks over and picks up his scythe as Magarac starts to stand. Reaper spins his metal staff and swings it across Magarac’s face, stumbling Magarac while stumbling himself. Reaper regains his balance and swings his staff the other way but Magarac catches the staff into his fist, making Reaper’s eyes expand. Soon after, Reaper yanks on the staff, pulling Magarac into a hard head-butt to the stomach. Magarac lets go of the staff to nurse his stomach as Reaper drops his scythe then leaps in the air towards Magarac, screaming out in pure rage.
Extracting the blades from the top of his gauntlets, Reaper forces one of the blades through one of Magarac’s eyes while pouncing onto him. Magarac shrieks out in excruciating pain as Reaper holds his blade through Magarac’s eye while holding on to Magarac’s head. Reaper, riding Magarac, extracts the blades with a grunt then angrily drives it back into Magarac’s eye wound, liquid metal disgorging out. Magarac grabs Reaper and tries to pry him off but Reaper wraps his legs around Magarac’s body, repetitively, driving both blades through the eyes of Magarac, yelling in fury. Dislodging loads of liquid metal from Magarac’s eyes. Reaper, dripping with Magarac’s blood, notices that Magarac is starting to tip backwards but continues to ragefully stab Magarac through his hemorrhaging eye wounds. As Magarac falls onto the floor, Reaper, still, mercilessly drives his blades through what’s left of Magarac’s face, punching him in the process.
“RRAAHHHHHHHHHHH!” Reaper roars before standing up, hyperventilating, liquid metal spewing up from his soaked blades. He looks around the room, pissed, as he sees the frightened faces of the men and women held hostage staring back at him. He turns and limps over to the closed doors, flexing his hand. Outside it’s quiet with feint sounds of vehicles driving around. The front doors to the old mill bursts open and Reaper, silhouetted, stands in the doorway as the large group of hostages walks out, some weeping, others helping one another walk. As the crowd disperses, there is no one standing in the door way anymore.
Inside the mill, Reaper, with his face not showing any signs of damage, is crouching next to Magarac, searching the corpse. Digging through Magarac’s overall pockets, he pulls out a crumpled card with a phone number on it. Reaper squints at the paper before he places it into his utility belt. As Reaper leaves the body lying on the floor, he scoops up his skull mask on the way out. Outside, Reaper digs into his utility belt and pulls out a device. He presses a button on it and it starts to glow and beep repeatedly. Reaper places the device back into his belt and starts running for the exit of the mill. Running, lights from a vehicle flashes in Reaper’s face as he leaps into the air. He lands on his motorcycle then speeds off into the night.
LATER IN THE STREETS OF VITALITY…
Reaper is walking the streets, wearing a black, double-breasted trench coat with white pants and calf-high black boots. His hair is a pitch black, medium and smoothed down with bangs covering a portion of his face. He walks to a payphone near a gas station then digs in his pocket. Cars pass by as Reaper takes the phone off the hook and places a few quarters into it. Soon after, without referring to the paper he looted of Magarac, he starts pressing numbers on the payphone’s number pad. He places the phone to his ear as it starts to ring. He stands there for a short moment, waiting. He exhales as he slowly closes his eyes, starting to lean against the payphone.
~Reaper.~ A woman’s voice with a southern accent sounds off on the other end. ~It’s always a pleasure to hear your voice.”
“Sue…” Reaper says into the phone as he squints.
~How ya doin’ sugar plum?~ She asks.
“I will find you, Sue.” Reaper tells, intensely.
~You probably will, but by then, it’ll already be too late.~ She informs. ~So how much time I got with you?~ She asks.
“It’s too late for you to leave this life,” Reaper explains. “For you and your boyfriend. What you two have created is a plague upon Vitality and I’m going to purge it. You and you’re friends are going to die.” Reaper promises as Sue laughs a bit too hard on the other end making Reaper squint.
~You think any of these brainless hoohas running ‘round town are my friends?~ She questions as she continues to laugh. ~You really don’t know what’s going on, do you?~ She taunts.
“Enlighten me.” Reaper states as Sue’s laughter ceases.
~This city doesn’t belong to you. This city doesn’t to me. This city doesn’t even belong to the ‘tards that live here.~ She speaks. ~This city belongs to the strong and that’s the very institution I plan on bringing to its knees.~
“By capturing innocent people??? By forcing them to sell your narcotics??? By forcing them to live out twisted fantasies of tall tales???” Reaper thunders into the phone. “WHAT DO YOU GAIN FROM THIS???”
~What I just gained from you.~ She says before the phone gives a dial tone. Reaper eyes expand as he slams the phone onto the hook.
“SON OF A BITCH!” He yells. He looks down to the ground with squinted eyes for a bit. Reaper then storms past the phone booth and onto the side walk. As he takes a few more steps, the pay phone rings. Reaper stops, surprised, as he hears the ring. He slowly turns around, eyeing the phone. The phone continues to ring, Reaper staring at it, confused. He starts to make his way back to the pay phone, with a skeptical look writing his face. As he stands in front of the ringing phone, he grabs the phone off the hook and places it to his ear.
“Hello.” He finally says into the phone.
~Reaper, this is Max. Remember m-~ Reaper cuts off Max by hanging up. Reaper exhales before he starts to take off but the phone rings soon after. Reaper stops once again then turns around. The phone continues to ring, Reaper staring at it with an apprehensive expression. Reaper’s face soon turns to annoyance as he storms back to the phone and picks it up off the hook and places it to his ear.
“What is it, Max?” Reaper says, annoyed, into the phone.
~I apologize for inconveniencing you… I understand that we aren’t on the best terms as well as everyone els-~
“Max, spare me the rhetoric and tell me why the fuck you’re calling me.” Reaper demands.
~I overheard your phone call with Slue Foot Sue and I was acquiring your attention so that I may offer assistance t-~
“I don’t need any help, Max.” Reaper tells taking the phone from his ear.
~Vigor Bakery.~ Max says as Reaper places the phone back to his ear.
“What?” Reaper blurts.
~Vigor Bakery next to Vigor Park.~ Max tells. ~There will be a woman working there tomorrow that I believe to be involved with Slue Foot Sue’s Tall Tale Syndicate.~ He explains.
“This doesn’t change anything, Max.” Reaper assures.
~That was not my intent. My intent is only to help you.~ Max tells before Reaper hangs up the phone. He walks passed the pay phone and onto the sidewalk. As rain begins to pour down from the clouds, Reaper places his hands into his coat pockets as he continues walking down the sidewalk.

The Brute
A quick sketch I did of volatileuniverse’s OC The Brute. This was the antagonist from Star Bright’s Prelude and my first time drawing fur. It was a lot of fun to draw, I might come back and actually finish it. You can read their short stories here: https://volatileuniverse.tumblr.com/

This is an old picture I did back in March or April for TrailBlazer’s Episode 3. Back when I was first experimenting with backgrounds, I think this shows I’ve improved a lot. I love how jack turned out though! I would love to redo this picture once I’ve improved more. Also you can read the story it goes with here @volatileuniverse
