the jujutsu tech common room is an explosion of christmas chaos—strings of colorful lights are draped across furniture, a half-decorated tree stands proudly in the corner, and nobara is arguing with yuuji about the “proper” way to hang ornaments.

“yuuji, if you hang one more ornament on that branch, it’s going to snap,” she snaps, hands on her hips.

“it’s sturdy! look, it’s totally fine!”

crack.

the ornament falls to the floor with a small thud, and yuuji scratches his head sheepishly as nobara yells about how he’s “ruining the vibe.”

you stifle a laugh, adjusting a string of lights around the tree, when toge slips beside you, his scarf tugged loose and a mischievous look in his eyes.

“salmon,” he says, handing you a candy cane.

“thanks, inumaki,” you say, taking it from him. “having fun watching everyone bicker?”

he nods, typing on his phone before showing you the screen:

i’m waiting for nobara to throw something at yuuji.

you snort, glancing over at your friends. sure enough, nobara picks up a stray ornament and launches it at yuuji’s head.

the evening is filled with the sounds of christmas carols, the smell of cookies baking (maki surprisingly offered to help), and a ridiculous amount of laughter. at one point, yuuji tries to start a snowball fight indoors, which earns him a scolding from shoko, who’s visiting for the holidays.

“alright, picture time!” nobara announces, pulling out her phone.

you’re barely prepared before she’s shoving everyone onto the couch, forcing toge to sit next to you while she adjusts the camera.

“okay, smile! and yuuji, stop making that face!”

you lean slightly toward toge, who takes the opportunity to pull his scarf up to hide his grin.

suddenly, he brings up a miniature mistletoe, leaning down and giving you a small peck on the lips and running off, leaving you a blushed mess.

later, as the night winds down, toge quietly pulls you aside, away from the noise and into the hallway. he hands you a small gift box, his fingers brushing yours as you take it.

“what’s this?” you ask, tilting your head.

“kelp,” he says softly.

you open it to find a delicate snowflake charm bracelet inside. it’s simple but beautiful, and your heart swells as you look up at him.

“thank you, toge,” you say, slipping it on.

he pulls down his scarf just enough to mouth, “merry christmas,” before gently taking your hand and leading you back to the common room.

and for the first time all night, it’s quiet—just you and him in your little moment, surrounded by the warm glow of christmas lights.

you’ve faced the facts. you don't love him anymore. the man you fell in love with is gone. in fact, there's a high chance that he never even existed, and naoya put up a good facade long enough for you to get attached, until he was sure you loved him too much to leave.

you look back on your entire relationship with the man. you had met him at megumi’s 15th birthday party. he said all the right things, telling you how you were much smarter, more mature than other girls your age. he gave all the right signals, and by the time you started officially dating on your 18th birthday, you were madly in love.

no one approved. not your friends, not your parents. hell, even megumi’s parents, toji and mina fushiguro, who had known you since middle school, told - no - begged you not to waste your youth on a man like naoya, and that if you didn't see it now, you'd learn when it was too late.

it's like a veil has been lifted off your eyes. you realise that it wasn't naoya’s age that made him mature. in all other aspects, he was like a pubescent boy, petulant, selfish and disrespectful.

“we’re not breaking up,” naoya says with certainty, looking at you as if you're stupid, high, concussed or all three.

“because- this- you don't know what you're saying, baby,” is his response. he’s choosing to go the consolatory route in a last ditch effort to delay the inevitable.

“this is just a rough patch. we can get through this, we’ve done it before, yeah?”

you shake your head, determined not to let your resolve crumble. “no, naoya. come on. we’ve only been together a year, and we argue on and off like we're on the cusp of a divorce. you cheated on me. i...may have cheated on you. this-”

“wait,” he interrupts. “you what?”

damn your honesty.

“yeah,” you breathe out. the relationship is basically over, so you see no point in hiding it.

“when? it was your birthday, right? that's why you got so-” he begins, and you tune him out on his rant as he paces the length of your bedroom.

for all his flaws, naoya is impeccably sharp. he can practically sense your focus shifting before it even fully happens, and snaps his fingers in front of your face.

“hey,” he says. “don't do that, you know it pisses me off.”

“sorry,” you respond, more as a formality than anything else. “but, yeah. it's best if we don't continue this. you're better off with a girl…well, your age.”

naoya scoffs. “you don't say. last time i mess with a fickle brat.”

“last time i mess with a pedophile,” comes your grumbled retort.

the ordeal is more peaceful than you anticipated, and in mere minutes, he’s gone, leaving you alone with your thoughts.

toge inumaki sat in his darkened room, the faint glow of his laptop illuminating his face. his fingers hovered over the keyboard as he stared at the blank screen in front of him. the familiar weight of silence pressed down on him, heavier than usual. it wasn’t that he didn’t have anything to say—he had plenty. but with his cursed speech, expressing anything felt dangerous. too risky. too isolating.

he sighed, glancing at the rice ball wrapper on his desk. “salmon,” he muttered to no one in particular, his voice barely above a whisper. the room stayed quiet, and the empty words hung in the air, meaningless. toge had gotten used to this emptiness—his world of muted conversations and half-finished thoughts. but tonight, the frustration bubbled over.

he clicked open a browser and typed twitter dot com. he hesitated for a moment, his fingers twitching slightly before he began typing again. “hiddenverse”, he entered into the username field. with a quick tap, the account was created.

for the first time in a while, toge felt like he could breathe.

he stared at the empty profile, considering what to write. no one knew him here, no one knew about his cursed speech or the danger that came with his words. here, he was just a stranger behind a screen. with newfound determination, toge began typing—a simple line of poetry, raw and honest, poured from his mind onto the page. it was something he’d never been able to say out loud, a feeling that had lived inside him for too long.

he hit post.

days passed, and his small following began to grow. among the notifications, one commenter kept returning, leaving thoughtful replies that struck a chord in him. toge found himself looking forward to their messages, curious about the connection forming in the anonymity of his online world.

yet with every post, a question lingered in the back of his mind: how long could he hide behind these words? and when the time came, would he dare to step out from the shadows?
