Question: Who Should Christians Vote For?
Allow me to offer a simple take: Christians should vote our sincere conscience. With the election just eight days away as of this writing, we are being bombarded by people trying to tell you who you must vote for and support. Within Christian circles, pastors are telling their churches that they must vote for Trump, not only saying that “you can’t be Christian and vote for Kamala”, but also that…

once again I’m struck by how ‘I don’t care if Trump gets in, I don’t care about allowing matters to get worse - both for America and vulnerable countries around the world - as long as I personally feel morally comfortable at the end of the election’ is a statement that people are actually saying with a straight face and meaning it
#** paraphrased statement#I’m trying very hard to be sympathetic#but there’s only so many times you can explain that having trump will make matters WORSE for Palestine and the Middle East#AND a lot of other countries around the world - esp ukraine#AND an abstention/third party vote is a vote for trump#before I become convinced some people either are wilfully stupid or care#more about the moral high ground than actually doing good

"There is no such thing as not voting: you either vote by voting, or you vote by staying home and tacitly doubling the value of some diehard's vote."

man do we even know if people abstaining from voting even made a dent in what happened last night. i don’t know if i agreed with it but i also feel like maybe blaming a relatively small group of leftists/left leaning for what kind of looked like an overwhelming trump turnout is the opposite of what we should be doing

I understand the necessity of speaking about it but everyone going like “you can’t let your rage from what is going on in Palestine affect your political choices, you still need to vote for genocidal maniacs that don’t give two shits about Palestinians starving to death, being ran over by tanks or carrying their dead children in shopping bags because some of them care about minority rights” sounds absolutely crazy to me
#Palestine is not an Arab issue and Palestine is not a Muslim issue#but political discourse on Palestine conflates Palestinian identity with the arab and Muslim one#and as a Muslim arab who watched the murder of Muhammad Al Durrah on Al Jazeera when she was 6#as a European who is approaching European elections#im sorry but I am not going to vote at all. political parties that rely by default on minorities and their fears will not get my vote#you cannot actively stand for apartheid occupation and genocide - or turn your shoulder and say nothing - and expect me to vote for you#because someone else may hate me in a more vocal way#I will not be complicit in this mechanism. I will keep protesting and activate through other channels#I will use abstention as protest. it goes against my values as a voter but I could not in good conscience vote for anyone who had anything#to do with the normalisation of Israel or its crimes

So there's something I want to say re: intentionally withholding your vote, and I want to do it without coming across as condescending or dismissive.
I've worked as a field organizer in two campaigns, 2010 and 2012, and my job was to help turnout the vote for Democratic candidates up and down the ticket. Technology may have changed, but people are still knocking on doors for specific voters the way they were 12 years ago.
If you say you're not voting/voting 3rd party, the campaign volunteer is supposed to mark that and move on. Their job, in the final month of the election, is to make sure the campaign's supporters have all the information and resources they need to cast a vote.
They aren't collecting data on why you're withholding your vote. They aren't submitting opinion polling results to the campaign. Something like 155 million people voted in the 2020 election, and if you say you're not voting, the campaign is not going to waste a volunteer's time and morale begging you to vote when there are literally millions of other voters to turn out.
Let me repeat that: The campaign does not track why you're not voting. They simply note your vote is not a priority for turnout and move on.
I say this because I see a lot of promotion of non-voting like that's a boycott, when the function is not the same. A boycott is a coordinated mass refusal to engage with an institution—which sounds similar if you see a vote as a good or service to withhold. Unfortunately, it's not.
A vote is a choice you're making as part of a community hiring committee. Your abstention doesn't prevent someone from being hired. It just lowers the threshold for the worst candidate to succeed.
All this to say: In my direct experience as an organizer, abstaining from the vote sends a message. That message is not "You need to try harder to win my vote." It's "Don't waste time on me."
#voteposting 2024#this *is* condescending but#sometimes I need people to ask themselves if they really think joe biden is reading their insta stories

Resolution calling for release of hostages snatched during Hamas' October 2023 attacks on Israel was among several emergency motions passed at Valencia congress, but Irish Fine Gael delegates declined to support it. Fine Gael has confirmed its delegates at the European People’s Party's Valencia congress refused on Wednesday to put their names to a motion condemning Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attacks in Israel and calling for the release of remaining hostages, and defended the party’s position. The Fine Gael delegation could not support the motion because it didn’t mention “the ongoing suffering of the people of Gaza”, and didn’t “propose any other actions to bring the conflict to a close, to move towards the building of long term peace built on a two state solution”, the party told Euronews in a statement. The resolution on ‘‘the urgent need to release all hostages held by Hamas’’ was one of several emergency motions on the second day of the congress, and was tabled by Sweden’s Christian Democrats and Austrian People’s Party delegations. The resolution condemned, "in the strongest possible terms, the despicable [7 October 2023] terrorist attacks committed by the terrorist group Hamas against Israel”, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages taken by the terrorist group Hamas and for the bodies of deceased hostages to be returned. The motion was approved by the congress but seven delegates – which Euronews established were from Fine Gael - abstained on a show of hands.

#1092 David GUIRAUD [Je Pense Donc Je Vote - Législatives 2024]

Biden's own ad campaign acknowledges that this election isn't a referendum on his actions, it is about making sure that a dangerous coup leader does not get elected. NOBODY will think that a vote for Biden means you approve of what he's doing. It is a referendum on democracy and on our ability to keep out a dangerous, mentally ill, hateful wannabe dictator who isn't even pretending he wants to follow the Constitution.
That's what Biden himself is saying. He knows that a vote for him is not about him. You could not even send a message of approval via voting for him if you tried, because nobody would GET the message that your vote was about Biden. Everyone assumes it's about Trump.
Make America Respectable Again.
Vote for the guy who can beat Trump.
#uspol#sorry i didn't mean to sound like a tv commercial#but there are much better ways to tell the government that what's happening in gaza isn't okay#ways like contacting them via petitions and phone calls and letters actually saying that directly#don't try to like... angrily withhold a vote and assume that this is going to send any kind of message to biden#everyone thinks your vote is about trump and an abstention will be taken as indecision or not caring

Wtf are you, specifically, talking about? Google the phrase “Joe Biden transgender rights” and then come back and tell me he’s never spoken up in support of trans people. Also he did try to use executive power to block the bathroom bills! He tried to federally mandate that because of Title IX and Bostock trans students must be allowed to use the bathrooms corresponding with their gender identities.
I’m not fond of the guy but we don’t need to go tell lies on the internet.
Also, I’m sorry, you think Joseph Robinette Biden has the power to unilaterally mandate abortion must be provided in states where it’s illegal as long as it’s on federal land? One weird trick that pro lifers hate? And he’s just not doing it? For some reason?
crazy how only one bathroom bill happened during the Trump administration plus it was repealed whilst he was still president, but during Biden’s tenure as president, there have been ten entirely new bathroom bills & absolutely zero effort to stopping them. the Biden/Harris administration doesn’t care about trans people. under Biden’s tenure, it became illegal to be publicly transgender in ten fucking states. because that’s what a bathroom bill is, let’s be real.
#i can kind of respect informed opinions on vote abstention even though I disagree#but this is not an informed opinion
