#gmtk2023 submission! Based on the theme reversal, my team made a game where rat scientists have put humans in an obstacle course, and it’s you’re job to get them through it!
Took this chance to try the VRC6 sound chip and went for a high energy, squeaky piece.

You guys praise the VRC6 for making colorful Famicom music, but sleep on its hidden PCM capabilities. Same with the SN76489, though it's more minimal. Have you not tried sampling a drum on either chip with Furnace Tracker?

I can't be the only one who thinks it's a bit weird to refer to something with the name FamiStudio as specifically for NES (especially because of how Famicom games used expansion audio that the NES didn't)

been having fun with nes ricoh 2a03 + konami vrc6 tracking recently. this wip has some fun and sometimes dissonant intervals between notes on a square and on the triangle channel. thinking about using this for a dungeoning theme in my game. check out my other music

If you wanna see some coding architecture and/or goofs for 30+ year old games, I'd recommend the "Displaced Gamers" channel on YouTube. I did want to highlight this video, as it just released today and provides a fascinating visual insight into Konami history and their unique mappers (and how sometimes translating code for use in different markets goes wrong.)
And there's some "Castlevania III" talk in there for you bat nerds, too.

A few weeks ago I discovered a YouTube user who arranges and remasters various Konami game OSTs in the VRC6 soundfont. Their work is really great, and the Castlevania ones have been on repeat while I'm writing (like today.)
Imagine my utter delight as I was going through their video uploads and found that they released this six hours ago:
