     Understanding. That’s how her tone sounded, how her words touched him. But he’s not quite sure if he’ll ever be able to move on from what he’s seen. His hatred might be gone, any malice he held but it doesn’t stop the hurt that makes his chest ache when he thinks back. Bright red against stark white. Even if that face were peaceful in his rest, it haunted Eve all the same. Just like the memories of his own death.

     “It’s always the same,” The machine mumbles under his breath, red eyes looking at Kamui before he shifts his gaze to the ground. Gloved fingers curl into his palms as teeth bite into his lip, “They don’t go away; the memories haunt me and I can never...forget. Perhaps now, I’ve forgiven but forgetting? It’s...impossible.”

     “Do you know, Lady? Do you know the pain of seeing someone you care deeply for dead, and yourself having no power to have changed the outcome? No matter what, it’s always the same?” His brow furrows, eyes closing as his fingers clench tighter. Should the gloves not have been there, his nails would be digging into flesh, scarring the skin of his hands.

     “I wanted...nothing more than to keep him safe. To make him happy. But it seems like no matter how many times I tried...I failed. And failed. And I can never forget how much it hurt to see so much red contrasted on white.”
