               It was exhausting, the amount of effort that it had taken to deal with the blowback and inevitable fallout of the Midway City fiasco.   In the weeks that had passed since Incubus had been obliterated and Enchantress destroyed, she had been pulling more tricks out of her ass and done more fast talking and cashing in favors than she’d done in years -- and she was beyond sick and tired of rehashing the same story.  Fortunately -- for her -- most of the witnesses that had actually seen Enchantress’ level of involvement in the massacre had been wiped out, or were the mindless creatures that had been created and had since been destroyed or confined, or -- were will under her thumb at Belle Reve and were in no position to tell their version of truth.  Incubus had made more than his fair share of trouble and attracted enough attention in social media and news that she had been able to pin the trouble on him.... leaving Dr. Moone’s and Enchantress’ involvement out of any official reports and she’d managed to squirm out of any questions that might’ve tied Incubus’ presence to her specifically. 

      Barely.  Now all that remained was convincing the oversight committee that had approved  the team in the first place that they were worth keeping on reserve, giving the... collateral damage that had accompanied their efforts.   “Let me remind you, again, that if it was not for the concerted efforts of the Task Force X, there’s a good goddamn chance none of us would be sitting here in this room today,” Waller spoke, her jaw squared off, her gaze bordering on simmering as she stared down the few voices that continued to present arguments against the continued sanction.   “Their unorthodox tactics are exactly what was necessary to eliminate the threat to Midway City, and if it was not for my foresight in putting this team together in the first place?  You’d be looking at a death toll in the billions.”
