The beers, which are available beginning today, include Queen of Persica peach sour ale, Downtime Pale Ale collaboration with Grasslands BBQ, and the latest releases from the brewery’s Top & Bottom Ferment series — Garden Lager and Longstep Mantis WCIPA. Queen of Persica is a peach sour ale that spotlights Pacific Northwest golden peaches on a base beer that has a soft and approachable tartness. The brewery also added a dry hop charge of Hüll Melon hops complementing the stone fruit with melon undertones that pave the way for the complexities of the fruit to open up and shine through. At 5.6% ABV, Queen of Persica is decidedly a subtly nuanced crusher that quenches the drinker’s thirst rather than a slow sipping puckery beer. Originally released as a one-off beer in the summer of 2023, Ferment’s collaboration with Grasslands BBQ is back by request and will be available the remainder of the food cart’s season. Downtime Pale Ale is an unfiltered American Pale Ale with Talus and Hallertau Blanc hops that, at 4.5% ABV, is perfect for washing down Grassland’s famous barbecue. Need to grab it quickly while in line at Grasslands? Ferment sells cans at the beer bike adjacent to the food truck on the lawn behind the brewery. Longstep Mantis WCIPA and Garden Lager are the newest offerings in the brewery’s Top & Bottom Ferment series, which sees the simultaneous release of a bottom fermenting lager and a top fermenting ale. These two beers celebrate the height of the growing season in the Pacific Northwest and provide a look into what the brew teams want to drink while outside in the summer heat. Like the good fortune of a visit from the praying mantis, Longstep Mantis WCIPA will delight your senses with zesty grapefruit and mango notes but won't stick around for long. Longstep Mantis is a 6.5% ABV West Coast IPA brewed with Mosaic, Citra, Idaho 7 and Idaho Gem hops. Garden Lager is a crispy garden-hour, 5.2% ABV lager brewed with Hallertau Blanc, Tettnanger and Saphir hops, best enjoyed while watching tomatoes ripen. It has flavors similar to red clover, water cracker, and mild sage. All four beers are available on draft and in 16oz 4-pack cans at Ferment’s Hood River brewpub, which has sweeping views over the beautiful Columbia River. Revelry Yards, Ithaca NY

Revelry Yards is in a vibrant part of downtown dubbed "Restaurant Row," and there certainly were a lot of places with seating on the sidewalk! It took a couple of tries to figure out exactly which one I was trying to get to, especially as it wasn't immediately obvious where the entry door was.

I understand there's also a Beer Garden behind the building but I didn't get to see that. Some days of the week they serve wood-fired pizza, but not today.
Their beers are brewed upstairs and I started with a flight of four, described left-to-right:

Cayuga White (Pilsner, 5.7%) - I've never had a Pilsner that had Cayuga grape juice added, but they do a fine job of getting just the right balance between the Pilsner taste and the sweetness of the Cayuga grape. This was very nearly my favorite of the four.
Heat of the Moment (West Coast IPA, 7%) - According to the description, this is the more fruity of the two WCIPAs I had. I can say that I really liked this one and definitely liked it better than the other.
Layed Back (West Coast IPA, 7%) - The description includes "deep hop flavor" and I'd say that's accurate -- it's certainly hoppier than the other and while it was tasty, it was my least favorite of the four. (The name does not have a typo in it -- that's how they spell it!)
Lemon Shandy - This had just replaced another tap that kicked and the beer board hadn't been updated yet, so I don't know the ABV for this one. I sometimes like this style but often find them too heavy-handed on the lemon; this one was just perfect though! The lemon was very subtle and the beer as a whole was absolutely delightful, a true all-day beer for a summer day.

This is the Avocado Turkey Club minus the avocado (since I can't taste it and don't particularly care for the texture). What a fabulous sandwich, though! This had hand-carved slabs of moist turkey breast along with all the other expected club ingredients. The fries were perfectly crisp and not at all greasy, but by the time I finished the sandwich I had to leave half the fries behind.
At this point, the bartender dropped off the check but I surprised her by ordering another flight:

Flying Donkey (Mexican Style Lager, 4.8%) - If served in a pint this comes with a lime slice, but it's just served plain in the sampler glass. Regardless, it was really refreshing and was my hands-down favorite of these four.
Happy Sour (Blackberry Sour, 4.5%) - I should have done this one before the Flying Donkey, I think -- the sourness didn't work well after the Mexican Lager. Still, the blackberry came through and by the time I got the bottom of the glass I decided I liked it.
Good Moood (Oatmeal Stout, 5.7%) - While it tasted good, it was much thinner than I expect from an oatmeal stout. Since the description began with "Full body," this seemed particularly odd to me. It struck me as more of a black lager than an oatmeal stout simply because of the mouth feel.
Fasten Up (Double IPA, 8.2%) - Perhaps this flight was just too mixed up, too many different styles, but I didn't feel this DIPA hit the spot either. I couldn't really decide why I felt that way, but perhaps I'd expected something a bit juicier rather than simply an extra-alcoholic IPA.
Tomorrow is the last day of this trip. I haven't decided yet where I'll be stopping, but wherever it is, I probably won't make an entry for it until Thursday morning. Cheers!

Today we got the tour of Portland’s cute SE, it’s sights & tastes, where my brother now lives; among the activities we did was buy a few Portland/Oregon beers. This evening the choice fell to a couple recommendations from Brett from Belmont Station: a nice bitter pine citrus fruity Cut The Fluff (IPA) by Baerlic Brewing Co (Portland, OR), a full bitter citrus fruity Starburst IPA from Ecliptic Brewing (Portland, OR), and a lovely rich coffee chocolate Cavatica Stout (Fort George Brewery & Public House, OR), named after an orb spider - one whose web I walked through I think many hundreds of times way back when I moved to the PNW in the 90’s when Curt Cobain was still walking and causing mischief & music. I found the tasty Two Birds IPA Craft Beer at Beer Lady in Shanghai and it was great. A fruity beer with some power added by the hops. Two Birds IPA is a hazy Pale Ale that was brewed with 2 types of oats to give a smooth, silky mouthfeel. For fans of West Coast IPAs the Two Birds will hit-the-spot.
