A curt knock on the imposing doors leading into the Duke's office gave him a brief warning before the Champion Duelist invited herself into the rather spacious respite. With a small package tucked under her arm, indigo eyes surveyed the contents of Wriothesley's desk before she unceremoniously placed the box onto the wooden surface. "From Liyue. My half of the bet has been paid. I do hope it's to your tastes." She paused for a moment, a grimace crossing her features. "Though I suppose with how much Monsieur Neuvillette purchased, this may be a bit redundant."

There is no answer, just the soft scraping of a quill against paper, of shuffling papers, movements so every day, they're nothing but muscle memory. His eyes don't lift from the stack of documents neatly placed before him on the expansive desk. It was as if no noise had been made at all.

❛ ah, miss furina. just who i was looking for, ❜ the warden greeted, and wandered over to the lady in question with a faint wave. ❛ i've been trying to decide a play to see, but since i'm usually busy at the fortress of meropide, it seems i've fallen out of touch with the current program. do you have any recommendations to share, maybe ? ❜

it seemed like the opera epiclese was back to a normal schedule ... as normal as it could be that was. though furina made it not her personal business to be too overinformed on the official matters of the court, she took the strides necessary to only know that which she should know. as in a normal citizen should be aware of or well informed in. plays were taking place, but the trials were still on pause given the shift in power that had taken place with her stepping down. it had been months now, but a shift like that was not so easily mended, delusional the ones who thought or believed so. it reminded her of when neuvillette became her iudex for the first time & how that adjustment period was well beyond months. funny that wasn't it? now this was her fault ...

furina shook her head & sighed. no, no, she can't be thinking this way. guilt sat comfortably at the center of her chest, but she refused to entertain it. she had no work today so she wanted to treat herself. it had been a while since she had last seen a play so that was the first thing that came to mind.

she crossed her arms, a finger of hers tapped lightly away at her chin as she read the board outside of the opera house with interest. a lot of these plays were familiar to her. either because she had seen them already before or they've become adaptations of a novel she had already indulged. ' hmm many options. ' she mused to herself out loud. the thought was quite exciting. she had made her decision the moment her eyes fell upon one that stood out to her, but before she could make another move a familiar voice that addressed her snatched her attention.

' ah! wriothesley, how nice it is to see you. ' she greeted once she had turned to regard him properly. ' for me? ' she wondered curiously. what ever could he be looking for her for? blessedly so, she was given her answer right away. ' ah i see! ' that made sense she supposed. ' your timing is almost quite impeccable ' she commended & turned back towards the board ' it seems like the opera house has just barely reestablished some semblance of a schedule for plays. this is the current lineup. all of them are wonderful selections. ' she mused with a proud smile. ' as far as recommendations, well, that would depend on what you like i suppose. ' she shrugged & looked back at the other. ' what are you looking for? there's romance, there's adventure, there's thrillers, horror, drama. ' always the drama, what was fontaine without it after all? ' it helps that all of these are wonderful stories as well. ' whether or not the troupes would do them justice ... well, that was an entirely different subject.

      it wasn't yelan's first time in fontaine , but perhaps it was the first time in a good while that she was there more for work but leisure .

   of course , however ; even when she is willing to relax a bit , anything could happen . and that was the case this time --- as she turns around to face the other , eyebrow raised ever so slightly at him before he speaks .

   she offers the man a smile , reaching out and handing him a tissue just like he had asked , though with hints of hydro in it in order to help him a bit more . "" here you go . and believe me , been there as well - it's not fun to be lectured like that . "" though most of the lectures she has obtained from her dear doctor were about the hour of the night she appeared at the pharmacy seeking aid . that , and that snake of his too didn't help .

"I knew it." She is satisfied with his answer. Although Clorinde doesn't know when exactly their relationship with each other took a turn for romantic, it was still nice to see that the both of them have found happiness with each other.

But of course, even paradise has it's share of troubles.

"Rumours are aplenty regardless of what you do or don't do anyways, why should that matter? It's not like the both of you are the type to endure blackmailing attempts or tabloids." Unless it makes either of them uncomfortable? "How about going on honeymoon vacations then? That way the both of you can have some semblance of anonymity."

❛  alright.  yes,  to  most  of  the  above,  then,  ❜  he  relented,  knowing  fully  well  that  even  neuvillette  assumed  clorinde  was  in  the  know,  anyway.  at  least  he  won't  earn  himself  another  of  those  frowns  of  disapproval  on  this  particular  matter.

The Palais Mermonia was empty in the late hours and Neuvillette longed to see him smile so he nudged him straight and leaned closer himself before closing his lips around his for the briefest and most tender of kisses.

' her words trailed off as she considered his insistence in staying behind when furina saw no reason to do so. they could just leave & the end result would remain the same. those kidnapped would make it back home in one piece & those who kidnapped them wouldn't be the wiser, in fact they would have absolutely no idea that they've managed to escape thanks to both herself & wriothesley. ' it isn't that i doubt your abilities, please do not misunderstand my intention. ' she clarified & brought a hand to her chest.

' it's merely that there's no point in fighting, by the time they notice they're gone it would be too late for them to really do anything that counts. ' she attempted to reason with the duke. ' there's really no reason to put yourself in harm's way. ' she added with a furrow of her brow. furina was not blind to the scars he donned. ' it wouldn't be just. ' she shook her head. for them to be safe whilst he was still within harm's way. though she was aware enough about his strengths & abilities ... furina was still going to worry & leaving him behind was an idea she could feel herself wholeheartedly rejecting hence her own insistence.

' please reconsider. ' a gentle plea, but she remained determined as she said so. she had already made this decision on her own, she wouldn't allow him to get hurt.

To say that he had been surprised would have been an understatement. The memory of the man, pulled from the depths of his mind in a sudden flash of familiarity. Leaving Malachi shocked, surprised, and down right speechless. In not only seeing the mage, but especially when the magic user acknowledged him.

After nearly losing his mind for five minutes, when the dust settled, the knight was quick to search the other out. If the wizard was to be a regular in his king’s court, he wanted to at least try to make a fellow acquaintance. Try, as he found himself hesitating when he found the man..
