... recently, I couldn't stand it and held a psychological session with gpt on the topic of my success in python and math, and it turned out that passing higher mathematics at C without any preparation other than listening to lectures and seminars is not "quite typical" or that - it turns out - people can't find out in an hour what time and where they will be. like. imagine getting on a bus (without a fixed route) and not saying instantly, just looking around, "I'll be at the subway at 1:45 pm" while it's 1:30pm, or taking the subway (which you usually don't take) and not saying immediately without calculating that you'll "be there in twenty minutes" just because you feel that way and you're right. people shock me. how do they survive??? do they really look at maps and teach for hours???

To see what your close friends thought about this book, please join. Software Tester, audio speaker as well as trainer at Friendly Testing. I hope you taken pleasure in reading this sample of "Java For Testers" by Alan Richardson.
Do you need math for Java?
There are several ways by which you can learn JAVA within a week. I feel that since JAVA is an Object oriented programming language just like C++. If you are fully thorough with all the OOPS concepts that you have learned in C++,then I am 100% sure that you can learn JAVA within 2 to 3 days itself.
Qualified Software Program Examination Automation Designer.

However this one got me started, and I still find it clear as well as simple. But occasionally as a tester we have to work with pre-compiled libraries, without source code, as well as usage parts of the code base out of context. This publication assisted change my coding design, as well as just how I come close to the building of abstraction layers. Other publications that cover comparable topics consist of "Clean Code" by Robert C. Martin, and "The Pragmatic Developer" by Andrew Search and David Thomas.

Automation Testing Resources.
Things are various, we instantiate them, so the two Integer variables both describe various things. Despite the fact that they have the same 'value', they are different things. Well, primitives are simple and also there is no distinction between value and also identity for primitives. I'll illustrate with a code instance, why the experienced designers are worried. You might not recognize the next few paragraphs yet, yet I just want to give you a little detail regarding why one Integer, or one Object, does not always equivalent one more Things.
Gradually I will certainly include videos and also details to JavaForTesters.com to show more performance with IntelliJ that I do not have area to include in this publication. er zijn anderen can assist you learn the fundamentals of IntelliJ very swiftly. This is very valuable for rapidly providing mvn commands or any one of the various other terminal commands pointed out in this publication. This can do partial matching, so you don't need to type in the full name of the class. I look at every one of those in this appendix for simple referral, and include some added details on using IntelliJ with this publication.

Test Automation With Selenium Webdriver.
Yet I discovered "Execution Patterns" even more suitable as well as helpful to my job. " Implementation Patterns" by Kent Beck clarifies some of the mind involved in composing specialist code. When I first reviewed it, I located it hefty going, because I really did not have adequate experience or knowledge to comprehend it all. Yet I re-read it, as well as have actually continued to re-read it over the time I have actually created my Java experience.
" Effective Java" by Joshua Bloch, at the time of composing in its second Version. This publication helps novices and also progressed programmers. Due to the fact that they are a very individual thing, I do not advise a great deal of Java books. There are publications that people rave about that I could not get my head around. And also there are those that I like that individuals despise.
A connected listing is a straight collection of information components where each aspect indicate the following.
It is utilized when we require to accessibility items by their secrets.
It is usually utilized for innovative situations where we need fast access to the next component, or when we need to eliminate a component from anywhere in the collection.
Many modern-day programs languages automate this process; nonetheless, it must still be a vital consideration when applying an application.
It is an information framework consisting of a collection of nodes which together represent a sequence.
Leading Tips For Understanding Java Programs.
And each time I review it, I find a new subtlety, or a deeper understanding of the principles. Each, rather brief, but dense in their coverage and also discussion. Java developers develop a great deal of knowledge concerning their language from other designers.
I hope you'll continue to find out more as well as put it to utilize on your projects. You will certainly be servicing projects, and also the kind of collections you are using, as well as the technological domain that you are servicing, may require various strategies than those pointed out in this publication. I suggest you start with the videos and books recommended here, yet also ask your team friends. John's approach is geared around writing programs, as well as I assume that if you have actually currently completed this book, you will certainly benefit from the conventional programmer based protection that John provides.
The two day training stresses hands on exercises and also task. It is possible to run this as an eventually Summary Of Java version yet this significantly reduces the moment spent on study code and also time for exercises.
In the previous phase we said that an int ranged from, to.Integer has static constants MIN_VALUE as well as MAX_VALUE. To access a continuous, you don't need to include parenthesis since you are accessing a variable, and not calling a method. Along with being static areas, these are likewise constants, in that you can not transform them. The naming convention for constants is to make use of only uppercase, with _ as the word delimiter.
Is Java a good career choice?
Similar to COBOL, thousands of critical enterprise systems have been written in Java and will need to be maintained and enhanced for decades to come. I'd be surprised if it's not around for at least another 15 years. But it will change, and is changing.
Integer has a static technique called toHexString which takes an int as criterion, this returns the int as a String formatted in hex. We can benefit from a Java attribute called 'autoboxing' which was introduced in Java variation 1.5. Autoboxing will instantly transform from a primitive kind to the connected class instantly. In the variations of Java that we will certainly be using, we do not in fact need to instantiate the Integer course with the new key phrase.
What is Java used for?
The simple answer is: no, coding is not hard to learn. If you take the time and have a little patience, you can really learn just about anything–coding is no exception. Learning to code takes time and persistence, but if you have that, then coding is not hard to learn.

Can I learn Java after Python?
There are numerous reasons why Java continues to be a leader in the world of development and why it is still a language worth learning in 2020. Although Java's many benefits and capabilities make it a very diverse language, it is actually fairly easy to learn and master for developers of all skill levels.
I have actually checked out a few of them, and John supplies example coding for a number of the products covered in this book, as well as in the "Advancing Ideas" section. We didn't cover the full power of Normal Expressions in this publication. You can normally select this up fairly inexpensively used. There are various other publications that cover decompiling, reverse engineering and also reflection.

The Boris Johnson Government is hiring
*This is ranking about a 9.1 on the fubarometer.
https://dominiccummings.com/2020/01/02/two-hands-are-a-lot-were-hiring-data-scientists-project-managers-policy-experts-assorted-weirdos/
JANUARY 2, 2020
BY
DOMINIC CUMMINGS
‘Two hands are a lot’ — we’re hiring data scientists, project managers, policy experts, assorted weirdos…
‘This is possibly the single largest design flaw contributing to the bad Nash equilibrium in which … many governments are stuck. Every individual high-functioning competent person knows they can’t make much difference by being one more face in that crowd.’ Eliezer Yudkowsky, AI expert, LessWrong etc.
‘[M]uch of our intellectual elite who think they have “the solutions” have actually cut themselves off from understanding the basis for much of the most important human progress.’ Michael Nielsen, physicist and one of the handful of most interesting people I’ve ever talked to.
‘People, ideas, machines — in that order.’ Colonel Boyd.
‘There isn’t one novel thought in all of how Berkshire [Hathaway] is run. It’s all about … exploiting unrecognized simplicities.’ Charlie Munger,Warren Buffett’s partner.
‘Two hands, it isn’t much considering how the world is infinite. Yet, all the same, two hands, they are a lot.’ Alexander Grothendieck, one of the great mathematicians.
*
There are many brilliant people in the civil service and politics. Over the past five months the No10 political team has been lucky to work with some fantastic officials. But there are also some profound problems at the core of how the British state makes decisions. This was seen by pundit-world as a very eccentric view in 2014. It is no longer seen as eccentric. Dealing with these deep problems is supported by many great officials, particularly younger ones, though of course there will naturally be many fears — some reasonable, most unreasonable.
Now there is a confluence of: a) Brexit requires many large changes in policy and in the structure of decision-making, b) some people in government are prepared to take risks to change things a lot, and c) a new government with a significant majority and little need to worry about short-term unpopularity while trying to make rapid progress with long-term problems.
There is a huge amount of low hanging fruit — trillion dollar bills lying on the street — in the intersection of:
the selection, education and training of people for high performance
the frontiers of the science of prediction
data science, AI and cognitive technologies (e.g Seeing Rooms, ‘authoring tools designed for arguing from evidence’, Tetlock/IARPA prediction tournaments that could easily be extended to consider ‘clusters’ of issues around themes like Brexit to improve policy and project management)
communication (e.g Cialdini)
decision-making institutions at the apex of government.
We want to hire an unusual set of people with different skills and backgrounds to work in Downing Street with the best officials, some as spads and perhaps some as officials. If you are already an official and you read this blog and think you fit one of these categories, get in touch.
The categories are roughly:
Data scientists and software developers
Economists
Policy experts
Project managers
Communication experts
Junior researchers one of whom will also be my personal assistant
Weirdos and misfits with odd skills
We want to improve performance and make me much less important — and within a year largely redundant. At the moment I have to make decisions well outside what Charlie Munger calls my ‘circle of competence’ and we do not have the sort of expertise supporting the PM and ministers that is needed. This must change fast so we can properly serve the public.
A. Unusual mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists, data scientists
You must have exceptional academic qualifications from one of the world’s best universities or have done something that demonstrates equivalent (or greater) talents and skills. You do not need a PhD — as Alan Kay said, we are also interested in graduate students as ‘world-class researchers who don’t have PhDs yet’.
You should have the following:
PhD or MSc in maths or physics.
Outstanding mathematical skills are essential.
Experience of using analytical languages: e.g. Python, SQL, R.
Familiarity with data tools and technologies such as Postgres, Scikit Learn, NEO4J.
A few examples of papers that you will be considering:
This Nature paper, Early warning signals for critical transitions in a thermoacoustic system, looking at early warning systems in physics that could be applied to other areas from finance to epidemics.
Statistical & ML forecasting methods: Concerns and ways forward, Spyros Makridakis, 2018. This compares statistical and ML methods in a forecasting tournament (won by a hybrid stats/ML approach).
Complex Contagions : A Decade in Review, 2017. This looks at a large number of studies on ‘what goes viral and why?’. A lot of studies in this field are dodgy (bad maths, don’t replicate etc), an important question is which ones are worth examining.
Model-Free Prediction of Large Spatiotemporally Chaotic Systems from Data: A Reservoir Computing Approach, 2018. This applies ML to predict chaotic systems.
Scale-free networks are rare, Nature 2019. This looks at the question of how widespread scale-free networks really are and how useful this approach is for making predictions in diverse fields.
On the frequency and severity of interstate wars, 2019. ‘How can it be possible that the frequency and severity of interstate wars are so consistent with a stationary model, despite the enormous changes and obviously non-stationary dynamics in human population, in the number of recognized states, in commerce, communication, public health, and technology, and even in the modes of war itself? The fact that the absolute number and sizes of wars are plausibly stable in the face of these changes is a profound mystery for which we have no explanation.’ Does this claim stack up?
The papers on computational rationality below.
The work of Judea Pearl, the leading scholar of causation who has transformed the field.
You should be able to explain to other mathematicians, physicists and computer scientists the ideas in such papers, discuss what could be useful for our projects, synthesise ideas for other data scientists, and apply them to practical problems. You won’t be expert on the maths used in all these papers but you should be confident that you could study it and understand it.
We will be using machine learning and associated tools so it is important you can program. You do not need software development levels of programming but it would be an advantage.
Those applying must watch Bret Victor’s talks and study Dynamic Land. If this excites you, then apply; if not, then don’t. I and others interviewing will discuss this with anybody who comes for an interview. If you want a sense of the sort of things you’d be working on, then read my previous blog on Seeing Rooms, cognitive technologies etc.
B. Unusual software developers
We are looking for great software developers who would love to work on these ideas, build tools and work with some great people. You should also look at some of Victor’s technical talks on programming languages and the history of computing.
You will be working with data scientists, designers and others.
C. Unusual economists
We are looking to hire some recent graduates in economics. You should a) have an outstanding record at a great university, b) understand conventional economic theories, c) be interested in arguments on the edge of the field — for example, work by physicists on ‘agent-based models’ or by the hedge fund Bridgewater on the failures/limitations of conventional macro theories/prediction, and d) have very strong maths and be interested in working with mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists.
The ideal candidate might, for example, have a degree in maths and economics, worked at the LHC in one summer, worked with a quant fund another summer, and written software for a YC startup in a third summer!
We’ve found one of these but want at least one more.
The sort of conversation you might have is discussing these two papers in Science (2015): Computational rationality: A converging paradigm for intelligence in brains, minds, and machines, Gershman et al and Economic reasoning and artificial intelligence, Parkes & Wellman.
You will see in these papers an intersection of:
von Neumann’s foundation of game theory and ‘expected utility’,
mainstream economic theories,
modern theories about auctions,
theoretical computer science (including problems like the complexity of probabilistic inference in Bayesian networks, which is in the NP–hard complexity class),
ideas on ‘computational rationality’ and meta-reasoning from AI, cognitive science and so on.
If these sort of things are interesting, then you will find this project interesting.
It’s a bonus if you can code but it isn’t necessary.
D. Great project managers.
If you think you are one of the a small group of people in the world who are truly GREAT at project management, then we want to talk to you. Victoria Woodcock ran Vote Leave — she was a truly awesome project manager and without her Cameron would certainly have won. We need people like this who have a 1 in 10,000 or higher level of skill and temperament.
The Oxford Handbook on Megaprojects points out that it is possible to quantify lessons from the failures of projects like high speed rail projects because almost all fail so there is a large enough sample to make statistical comparisons, whereas there can be no statistical analysis of successes because they are so rare.
It is extremely interesting that the lessons of Manhattan (1940s), ICBMs (1950s) and Apollo (1960s) remain absolutely cutting edge because it is so hard to apply them and almost nobody has managed to do it. The Pentagon systematically de-programmed itself from more effective approaches to less effective approaches from the mid-1960s, in the name of ‘efficiency’. Is this just another way of saying that people like General Groves and George Mueller are rarer than Fields Medallists?
Anyway — it is obvious that improving government requires vast improvements in project management. The first project will be improving the people and skills already here.
If you want an example of the sort of people we need to find in Britain, look at this on CC Myers — the legendary builders. SPEED. We urgently need people with these sort of skills and attitude. (If you think you are such a company and you could dual carriageway the A1 north of Newcastle in record time, then get in touch!)
E. Junior researchers
In many aspects of government, as in the tech world and investing, brains and temperament smash experience and seniority out of the park.
We want to hire some VERY clever young people either straight out of university or recently out with with extreme curiosity and capacity for hard work.
One of you will be a sort of personal assistant to me for a year — this will involve a mix of very interesting work and lots of uninteresting trivia that makes my life easier which you won’t enjoy. You will not have weekday date nights, you will sacrifice many weekends — frankly it will hard having a boy/girlfriend at all. It will be exhausting but interesting and if you cut it you will be involved in things at the age of ~21 that most people never see.
I don’t want confident public school bluffers. I want people who are much brighter than me who can work in an extreme environment. If you play office politics, you will be discovered and immediately binned.
F. Communications
In SW1 communication is generally treated as almost synonymous with ‘talking to the lobby’. This is partly why so much punditry is ‘narrative from noise’.
With no election for years and huge changes in the digital world, there is a chance and a need to do things very differently.
We’re particularly interested in deep experts on TV and digital. We also are interested in people who have worked in movies or on advertising campaigns. There are some very interesting possibilities in the intersection of technology and story telling — if you’ve done something weird, this may be the place for you.
I noticed in the recent campaign that the world of digital advertising has changed very fast since I was last involved in 2016. This is partly why so many journalists wrongly looked at things like Corbyn’s Facebook stats and thought Labour was doing better than us — the ecosystem evolves rapidly while political journalists are still behind the 2016 tech, hence why so many fell for Carole’s conspiracy theories. The digital people involved in the last campaign really knew what they are doing, which is incredibly rare in this world of charlatans and clients who don’t know what they should be buying. If you are interested in being right at the very edge of this field, join.
We have some extremely able people but we also must upgrade skills across the spad network.
G. Policy experts
One of the problems with the civil service is the way in which people are shuffled such that they either do not acquire expertise or they are moved out of areas they really know to do something else. One Friday, X is in charge of special needs education, the next week X is in charge of budgets.
There are, of course, general skills. Managing a large organisation involves some general skills. Whether it is Coca Cola or Apple, some things are very similar — how to deal with people, how to build great teams and so on. Experience is often over-rated. When Warren Buffett needed someone to turn around his insurance business he did not hire someone with experience in insurance: ‘When Ajit entered Berkshire’s office on a Saturday in 1986, he did not have a day’s experience in the insurance business’ (Buffett).
Shuffling some people who are expected to be general managers is a natural thing but it is clear Whitehall does this too much while also not training general management skills properly. There are not enough people with deep expertise in specific fields.
If you want to work in the policy unit or a department and you really know your subject so that you could confidently argue about it with world-class experts, get in touch.
It’s also the case that wherever you are most of the best people are inevitably somewhere else. This means that governments must be much better at tapping distributed expertise. Of the top 20 people in the world who best understand the science of climate change and could advise us what to do with COP 2020, how many now work as a civil servant/spad or will become one in the next 5 years?
G. Super-talented weirdos
People in SW1 talk a lot about ‘diversity’ but they rarely mean ‘true cognitive diversity’. They are usually babbling about ‘gender identity diversity blah blah’. What SW1 needs is not more drivel about ‘identity’ and ‘diversity’ from Oxbridge humanities graduates but more genuine cognitive diversity.
We need some true wild cards, artists, people who never went to university and fought their way out of an appalling hell hole, weirdos from William Gibson novels like that girl hired by Bigend as a brand ‘diviner’ who feels sick at the sight of Tommy Hilfiger or that Chinese-Cuban free runner from a crime family hired by the KGB. If you want to figure out what characters around Putin might do, or how international criminal gangs might exploit holes in our border security, you don’t want more Oxbridge English graduates who chat about Lacan at dinner parties with TV producers and spread fake news about fake news.
By definition I don’t really know what I’m looking for but I want people around No10 to be on the lookout for such people.
We need to figure out how to use such people better without asking them to conform to the horrors of ‘Human Resources’ (which also obviously need a bonfire).
*
Send a max 1 page letter plus CV to [email protected] and put in the subject line ‘job/’ and add after the / one of: data, developer, econ, comms, projects, research, policy, misfit.
I’ll have to spend time helping you so don’t apply unless you can commit to at least 2 years.
I’ll bin you within weeks if you don’t fit — don’t complain later because I made it clear now.
I will try to answer as many as possible but last time I publicly asked for job applications in 2015 I was swamped and could not, so I can’t promise an answer. If you think I’ve insanely ignored you, persist for a while.
I will use this blog to throw out ideas. It’s important when dealing with large organisations to dart around at different levels, not be stuck with formal hierarchies. It will seem chaotic and ‘not proper No10 process’ to some. But the point of this government is to do things differently and better and this always looks messy. We do not care about trying to ‘control the narrative’ and all that New Labour junk and this government will not be run by ‘comms grid’.
As Paul Graham and Peter Thiel say, most ideas that seem bad are bad but great ideas also seem at first like bad ideas — otherwise someone would have already done them. Incentives and culture push people in normal government systems away from encouraging ‘ideas that seem bad’. Part of the point of a small, odd No10 team is to find and exploit, without worrying about media noise, what Andy Grove called ‘very high leverage ideas’ and these will almost inevitably seem bad to most.
I will post some random things over the next few weeks and see what bounces back — it is all upside, there’s no downside if you don’t mind a bit of noise and it’s a fast cheap way to find good ideas…

Why You Should Spend More Time Thinking About best portable keyboard
How are they undertaking this?
They're accessing MOOCs, or Massive Open On the internet Courses. Although platforms have been readily available from elite colleges like MIT and Stanford for nearly ten years, open up-source classes keep on to expand in number and popularity. Now, even some local community colleges like Wake Technical School,Positioned outside Raleigh, NC, gives MOOCs to a world viewers. This increasing availability usually means You can find now an incredible a number of programs accessible to any individual with an Connection to the internet, regardless of spot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Topics MOOCs deal with can vary from contemporary robotics and astronomy to Roman architecture plus the American Novel Given that 1945. MIT, by way of example, has lessons centered around Arithmetic, Engineering, Electrical power and Science, in addition to a shocking amount of courses focusing on the Humanities and Fine Arts. The University of Michigan offers programs ranging from "Storytelling for Social Adjust" to Python, info analytics, and device learning. You can even take leadership classes from HEC Paris through MOOC, ranked because of the Economist as possessing the next most powerful enterprise faculty alumni community on the earth.
Some MOOCs are intended to be taken for awareness gained, but a lot of systems also present you with a certificate of completion through websites like Coursera.org. Certificates of completion--that are diverse from system credits--typically Value close to $50. Economic help is offered for those who qualify.
Motives to think about a MOOC
There are numerous explanation why a MOOC course could possibly be right for you past time management, Even though most MOOCs allow for college students to work at their very own tempo, meaning they easily fit into most schedules, It doesn't matter how occupied. Other pros include:
An opportunity to Check out A serious in advance of paying for college classes. Anyone trying to decide on the vocation path, for The very first time or as a result of a midlife modify of way, knows the annoyance of wondering "What if I am Incorrect about my option? The amount of revenue am I going to invest prior to I recognize this is not for me?" MOOCs are a terrific way to 'dip your toes' in, so to speak, prior to the headache of managing classic college classes and classic college or university fees. You could try out as quite a few classes as you have enough time for until some thing definitely sparks your interest.
Just take classes not out there locally. There are actually practically A large number of MOOC classes accessible online. Even if you are now living in Boston (wherever Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Boston University and Boston University are all Positioned) or A few other identical College-dense place, you can possibly obtain a category or two through MOOC choices not available to you regionally.
Discover (or relearn) a language without spending a dime. Not only can you're taking a international language program for free via MOOCs, but because of classes taught at international universities, you can also coach your ear by Hearing native speakers. Have a program taught in the language you need to find out and stick to together using English subtitles. The second method is a great way to effectively double your Discovering, but only works if you already have at least an intermediate grasp from the language.
If learning A further language isn't higher on the to-do listing, possibly it should be: In 2017, New American Economic climate documented employer demand for bilingual personnel a lot more than doubled due to the fact 2010. This need carries on to develop. Most effective languages to review? Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic.
Build up your resume with required skills. It's possible there is a superior position at work you know you can do, but your boss doesn't Believe you are certified for it as you deficiency specific skills. MOOCs are a terrific way to turn into proficient in regions like HTML coding, SEO analytics, or whatever skill you must turn into the best man or woman with the work.
Keep to the links in the following paragraphs For more info on lots of MOOC courses. MOOCs are also offered by means of several different academic platforms, which includes Coursera, Udemy, and edX. But MOOCs can be accessed directly by means of Just about every university, and can be found through the use of the next Google search limiting syntax entered into your google search bar:
web page:edu MOOC topic
For instance, if I enter web page:edu MOOC robotics, I get about seven,000 success, such as this Introduction to Robotics Specialization from Penn Engineering. By utilizing this syntax, you are able to frequently bypass the clearinghouses and find what exactly You are looking for on College websites, even classes the clearinghouses may well not give.
Joyful MOOCing!
"Millennials," "Era Y," "The Peter Pan Technology" - they go by many names and had been born roughly between 1980 and 2000.They can be the technology that grew up with smartphones, rear-dealing with cameras, internet etc. They had been at a tender and vulnerable age when Harry Potter to start with took his traveling classes on his magical broom, if they witnessed the great fall of the dual Towers of Globe Trade Centre in Ny city on 9/11. The millennials grew up during the period of mobile phones, digital cameras, electronic mail, text-messaging, mp3 gamers, handheld movie game products, WhatsApp, Facebook/Instagram, YouTube Films, web browsing and what not.
A person this kind of millennial who knocked my socks off was this young girl named Anushka, a teenager in her early twenties. Her white t-shirt with "MILLENNIAL" in large, black, Daring letters just caught our speedy interest and we couldn't halt thinking of her Special Expertise Presentation, below at Nirmiti Academy. The Do-it-yourself (Do It Oneself) Craft was her one of a kind talent. She represented a young confront of the millennials. Additionally, it was her presentation that spoke extra of her like a millennial. She was a real go-getter when it came to current her exceptional talent in a singular way. We could see her beaming with delight and happiness to showcase her exceptional talent to Other people. She was so thrilled that she was talking a mile a minute. She had a great deal to mention about this and she could go on and on and retain us glued to her presentation. The millennials like Anushka and a lot of Many others are enthusiastic to work on points which desire them. Concurrently, I could also see her remaining not able to smile and present herself Fortunately. Long gone will be the times for your millennials wherever they come to feel present and luxuriate in their surroundings. These are the technology who experience the regular need for virtual notice which potential customers them to overshare their life and moments on social websites or go inward in deep conscience to find themselves. This leaves them unconnected Using the Bodily entire world about them.
Millennials really are a highly praised and confident technology. These are a hugely optimistic era. They may have a increased will need to possess life encounters in lieu of to accumulate substance wealth, Regardless that they do like to obtain things which can help them to take pleasure in those ordeals. Millennials are the most educated era. Since the value tag of education and learning is now so higher and continuing to climb each and every year, Millennials have grown to be extremely savvy about their academic options. Unlike prior generations who noticed education being a ritual and an investment decision inside their long run, millennials check out training as an price, Until it is going to empower them in an effort to be an even better personal. They hope schooling to help them get ready for The brand new possibilities and challenges of this age, rather then supporting them by providing truth-based data/knowledge. The millennials wish to be challenged by serious about the longer term And exactly how they could add to developing a better Culture and environment. They do not feel the need to come to be "textbook good / reserve worms".
They are aware that points is usually effortlessly located on the internet by way of their very own unbiased action. They can be the technology that offers and prosper on information at finger "click on". In a very planet of open up usage of understanding, it can make little feeling to depend on the classroom being a Discussion board for that transfer of knowledge.
Rather, the students Considerably choose to understand from your stories and experiences of Other people. These shared tales and encounters aid them to enhance their own individual expertise by Studying within the success and issues of Some others. This assists them steer clear of building exactly the same mistakes as their influencers. That's why, they like to invest extra of their time and money on such systems which assistance them to create several techniques that they may include into their thoughts and decision-earning process, therefore developing a new skill set.
We are unable to dismiss The reality that millennials may also be a generation of uncertainties and fluctuations. They may be the technology who likes to maintain switching their gizmos. They grew up with technological know-how in which every thing was at their fingertips. It will become frustrating for them to not get what they need every time they want it. Most of the factors are handed to them over a silver spoon. This helps make them really feel entitled to obtain what they want without Placing in Substantially exertion.
Though These are the foremost workforce of the companies currently, they don't believe in lifelong employment. Lifelong determination is often a fairy tale for that millennials. They always jump from on work to a different as they are constantly in search of some thing new and superior. These large expectations grow to be their downfall and tends to make them significantly less economically stable than their dad and mom.
youtube
Millennials are listed here to stay! They're younger, bright and energetic and they ARE the longer term. They are great property which the world will have to harness and use. They are the generation which is revolutionizing the world. They may be the budding leaders of tomorrow. They undertake know-how and stimulus in precisely the same breadth. This technology can also be a collaborative and social era that features a focus on knowledge and building their information as a result of numerous sorts of medium to find out the answers. It can be for that educator like us to deliver an arena for engagement and discovery together with become a content expert and mentor. It is actually for Mastering System providers like Nirmiti Academy to offer an explorative and experiential experience and bring out their genuine opportunity in life and at work. It is this transformational journey that we at Nirmiti Academy sit up for each day to understand, unlearn and relearn with these youthful and magical technology - the Millennials!

03.5.2023 - Oh boy, peace?
Today is Sunday
It seems like I really like writing on Sundays, and as usual, I read my last post before writing this one. Taylor and I slightly discussed why I deleted the pictures and videos, and I told him, it was just awkward for me when he would flirt with Victoria. This was something he decided to address only after drinking quite a bit. It seems like he didn’t think it was hardcore flirting, but I said I thought it was and it make me feel awkward. The man literally said he wanted to buy her flowers for Valentines, and he asked her to be his Valentines. Tbh, I didn’t think much of the Valentines thing, and it was more of the flowers thing. He wanted to send flowers to her even though that is not something he would do for anyone. I also told him it was just weird for me because she is my best friend, and she knows about our “friendship”. I guess it’s not weird to him because he probably thinks she doesn’t know anything about our “friendship”. I wonder if he will start acting weird or changing how he acts since I voiced my opinion about it. I really wish our friendship could go back to the regular friendship that it use to be. None of the sexual talk, no sleeping together talk, and just completely delete those 2 months of very relationship type stuff. I may have deleted the picture I sent, but then we just sent new ones. Life would be so much more peaceful if I could just stop this, but I just can’t help it. Why am I like this? I’ve never been like this before, and to be honest, Taylor could go date someone else, and I wouldn’t have much thought about it. I think I need to stop trying to understand Taylor too because that is not going to happen since he never speaks his mind. I need to get over it. I must really be bored or something to let these things continue bothering me enough to write about it.
Onto other things, I am really annoyed with how my school teaches class because I feel like I am just getting the definition of things and no example. It’s like they expect to know how to work a problem based purely on knowing the definition of something. Like sir? Can I get an example or something related? I just don’t understand why school is taught so different from how things would be taught in real life. I am 100% that I will have to go through training at my future job regardless of what I learned in school. No way I am gonna start a new job, and they just throw me into the deep end without training. That’s how school is currently so it makes no sense to me. Thank you for the example, now would you please work on a problem similar to the one on homework. That would be useful. Also, I hate that homework is graded for correctness rather than completion. My problem with that is homework is used for us to practice what we learned in class, and mistakes are gonna be made because it is our first time learning or doing a problem like that. I don’t understand why it’s graded for correctness like an exam or test. I think that homework should be done, graded based on completion, and then feedback should be given so that our mistakes are something we can use to study for the then graded exam. That just makes way more sense to me. I think I am doing fine though, but it’s annoying how hard I have to work. I would have to say that I am pretty proud of myself for how well I am doing for someone who hasn’t done Calc 1 since high school, and has never taken calc 2, calc 3, dicrete math, and linear algebra untli now. From what I know, most of the people in my program already have a background in this, and I am really part of the minority that hasn’t done any of this before. I am iffy with my python skills though because I googled a lot of that stuff. I have learned that coding is a very interesting thing that no one seems to really know how to do, and everyone resorts to asking others on the internet about it. I am also pretty sure that I signed myself up for a hard time next quarter because I am taking 2 classes which consist of Prob and Stats for Data Science and Python Software Dev.
Reasons for incoming poor mental health:
1. I am pretty harsh on myself so I get pretty upset when I don’t understand things right away. Prob and Stats was a class I struggled in during undergrad and Python is very new to me. Failure is happening.
2. I have been getting distracted pretty easily, but I think that I have just thought of a solution. I am going to use Tracy’s room as my work room.
3. I definitely won’t have time to play video games so I think the lack of friendship will take it’s toll. Ofc, I will still have my volleyball friends so it won’t be too bad.
4. I get annoyed when things are taught the way they are currently being taught. I hope that it gets better. I don’t think it was that bad the first quarter.
I think that is enough for this post because I need to get back to watching Khan academy videos since the async lectures from class are useless.

8 Tools Every Web Developers Should Learn in 2023
Tumblr media
It's a popular saying that a craftsman is as good as his tools and the same goes for Web Developers. If you don't know your tools, you will struggle in your day-to-day job. At the same time, knowing your tool well can increase your productivity and help you become a star developer in your team. That's why I am always in search of new tools which can make my developer life easy. Earlier, I shared the best tools for Java developers and the best tools for Python developers, and in this article, I am going to share some of the most essential tools for Web developers, both frontend and backend developers. These are the tools I use in my day-to-day life and there is a good chance that you may already be familiar with most of them, which is great.
The point here is to learn more about those tools so that you can use them effectively and take your Web development skills to the next level. There is also a lot of articles on the internet about web development tools and technology, but most of them are filled with non-practical information like JavaScript framework and libraries, which are not needed in day-to-day life.
In Today's world, we are really lucky to have these powerful tools which can save a lot of time while developing, testing, debugging, deploying, and even scaling your application. I have come from the time where "View Source" on IE and JavaScript alert () was our only source for browser-based debugging. Today, you have powerful tools like Chrome Developer Tool and Firebug for such things.
If you are looking to become a better Web Developer in 2023 and ready to level up your skill learning these tools will go a long way in improving both your skill and productivity. I have also shared the best resources and online courses to learn these tools and you can use them for further learning.
8 Essential Tools for Frontend and Backend Developers
Anyway, if you come across any other handy tool which can really boost Web developer's productivity, feel free to share with us and I'll add that to this list.
Without wasting any more of your time, here is my list of some of the most essential tools for frontend and backend developers to learn in 2023:
1. VS Code
This is the single most important tool for a Web developer in 2023. I have been doing web development for quite a long and have used many IDEs and Editors like Atom, Sublime, Eclipse, and IntelliJIDEA but VS Code is something else. It's both lightweight and powerful. Initially, it comes with a basic feature but you can customize it for your need by downloading extensions.
There are so many VS extensions available ranging from debugging, connecting to git, deploying into the cloud, like Azure and AWS, and much more. There is a good chance that you already familiar with VS Code but if you don't I strongly suggest you learn VS Code in 2023.
2. Postman
Modern Web development is all about APIs and Postman is a great tool to interact with those APIs. During development, if you want to get familiar with a third-party library, you can use Postman to interact with it like you can send GET and POST requests, set request headers, examine response headers, and other HTTP metadata.
Postman is also very useful for REST API testing and that's why it's an essential tool for both frontend and backend developers. I strongly suggest you learn Postman in 2023.
3. Docker
Containers are essential for modern web developers. Containers not only make development easier but also makes deployment smoother. Instead of deploying your application and its dependencies separately, you deploy a container, which is both easier to manage and scale. And, any discussion of containers is incomplete without talking about Docker.
It is one of the most popular container platforms for developers and a must-know tool for Web Developers. Whether you are a frontend developer or a backend geek, I strongly suggest you learn Docker in 2023.
4. Kubernetes
When we talk about containers and Docker, Kubernetes also comes into the picture because it can help you in managing containers. It's easy to deploy one or two containers initially but when your application grows and more instances are required, it becomes difficult to manually deploy 100s of containers.
It also becomes a headache to create new containers and take off unused ones, that's when Kubernetes comes to rescue you. It's a container management tool that can create, scale and manage containers for you.
5. GitBash
There are a lot of git clients available online, both GUI and command line but if you work in Windows and love to work in the command line then there is no better than Gitbash.
Though VS Code and other IDEs already provide Github integration, sometimes you prefer to work in the command line, particularly if you are committing a large block of code or merging changes from different branches.
In Linux, it's easy to execute all those git commands but in Windows, it's a bit challenging and that's where Gitbash helps.
6. Chrome Developer Tools
This is another essential tool for Web Developers. It let you see what's going on in the browser. By using Chrome developer tools, you can examine different HTML elements, can play with CSS, and also check JavaScript.
It also lets you see a lot more details about downloaded scripts, network connections, and so on. It's a great tool for browser-based debugging, particularly for frontend developers and you should learn it in 2023.
7. NPM (Node Package Manager)
NPM stands for Node Package manager, It's the most important tool for web developers. While working on a web development project, you need to use and import a lot of other JavaScript frameworks and libraries like React.js for UI, or Vue.js for frontend, Jest library for unit testing, and many more. NPM can do all that for you.
It puts modules in place so that nodes can find them, and manages dependency conflicts intelligently. Most commonly, it is used to publish, discover, install, and develop node programs. Run npm help to get a list of available commands.
8. Cloud (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Many of you already familiar with Cloud and Cloud computing platforms like AWS (Amazon Web Service), Microsoft's Azure, and GCP (Google Cloud Platform), if you are not, make sure you learn one of them.
Ideally, you should learn the one which your company is adopting. For example, if you are company is investing in Microsoft Azure, you should learn to excel in your team and company by pioneering in migrating your project into the cloud. Similarly, if your company is migrating into GCP or Google Cloud platform then you should spend some time learning GCP. It's a great cloud platform, particularly for Machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Big Data companies. If your work has anything to do with Python Pandas, Tensor Flow, neural networks, etc. learn GCP.

Top 6 Best Computer Programming Courses For Children In 2023
Tumblr media
Children are prepared for success by learning computer science! Coding is only one element of computer programming. It involves physical networks and systems, data collecting, storage, and analysis, among other things. Therefore, we’ll discuss some of the top children’s computer science courses today.
Computer and information research scientists’ employment is expected to increase by 22% between 2020 and 2030, which is substantially faster than the average for all occupations. Children learn practical technical skills in computer science that will help them in their future occupations, but it also develops their creativity and critical thinking abilities.
The years 2020 and 2021 had their share of surprises, but they also brought about changes and tribulations that led to new opportunities. Not just in general, but also with the coding classes we shall discuss in a moment.
Even while school may have seemed like a chore to children and teenagers, it only meant that they needed to explore alternative ways to learn. And although they may have socially seen their friends less frequently than normal, this only required them to discover other methods to connect.
Consider the after-school enrichment programmes that kids once looked forward to that are no longer offered. They had to occupy their time by doing something else, and since they couldn’t go for the robotics club after class, many of those options began to be offered online.
Finally, as was already noted, children and teenagers just missed their friends or the chance to create new ones. Because so many people were keeping their distance, they had to use internet tools to communicate, chat, meet, and just have fun.
Why Online Programming Courses For teenagers Is So Important ?
Tumblr media
If you’re reading this, you undoubtedly already see the need for and value of introducing coding to your young child. So, where and how they can do it are the questions. Who can they learn from, and how?
The short and sweet answer is that there are plenty of opportunities available, including one-on-one online coding lessons, Online Teen Academies, and more. Your child can learn to code if they are interested in doing so.
Several coding websites, apps, and other online resources are available to help children and teenagers learn how to code, I’d also like to mention. In my opinion, a “class” must have some sort of live instruction component, such as a live instructor instructing students in person or, at the very least, a recording of such instruction. I do discuss these briefly at the end of the piece.
In light of this, here are 10 online coding courses for children that are taught by live instructors and offer group or one-on-one training for students.
Here Is The best computer programming courses for children
1. JavaScript
Tumblr media
Asking these introductory questions will help you determine whether or not your child is prepared for an online coding course. Do your kids like playing video games? If so, would using games to teach coding be the best strategy?
In the end, there are many ways to teach kids how to code, but some of the more effective initiatives incorporate the subject into activities that they are already familiar with (like video games, or even social media, or robotics). Kids may readily experience the positive reinforcement provided by “If I do this, then that happens,” etc. by allowing them to see what code has previously created and then how code can change those things.
As a result, this JavaScript course introduces students to the fundamentals of variables, math operators, and the p5 web editor before having them add collision detection, improve complex game features, add scoring, and more by the end of the week.
2. Python Coding
Tumblr media
Students can learn to write using Python, one of the best programming languages for kids, by declaring, initializing, and using variables, as well as by dealing with strings, characters, and algorithms. However, they can also investigate the underlying workings of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Python teaching may be the ideal choice now that summer activities are coming to an end and school is starting.
3. Artificial intelligence course
Tumblr media
Discover how Artificial Intelligence for kids relates to self-driving cars, face recognition, and other cutting-edge technology. Children may practise using cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning tools in this live online computer science course. They will gain an understanding of how AI operates, observe actual applications, comprehend what AI can and cannot accomplish and why, and even create their own AI system.
4. Java Tutoring
Are these words — arrays, loops, and if statements — frightening to you? They certainly can be. but not in a setting that is conducive to learning. The act of learning a new skill, such as coding, can be challenging enough without having to learn new coding vocabulary, especially for young children. But consider it this way: Any word can be reduced to its simplest form. For instance, isn’t an algorithm just a sequence of instructions?
Java programming can therefore be used to learn the fundamentals of programming, create apps and games, and develop a deeper understanding of algorithms. Java is the ideal language to open the world of computer science, to put it another way.
5. Web development class
Tumblr media
Create your own web pages to learn more about how the Internet actually functions. In this Web Development Course, children and teenagers begin to learn JavaScript and create websites with dynamic content that can respond to user interactions. Students will learn how to design increasingly complicated web projects, such as animations and online games, as well as web apps utilizing JavaScript.
6. Mobile App Development
Tumblr media
Make effective mobile games and apps with simple block code. The fundamentals of the Mobile App Development and how to create their own apps will be taught to students and teenagers. Additionally, they will investigate how to use text, hardware sensors, and even a camera to create games and projects that incorporate word games, riddles, and picture recognition.
What is a good coding class for kids ?
An excellent coding lesson for children is built around a curriculum created by subject-matter specialists and instructed by a qualified teacher. Additionally, good coding courses give students hands-on experience and explain how what they are learning is used in the real world. The finest coding courses also make sure that children comprehend the ideas and reasoning behind what they are doing. Read more on the top coding schools for kids.
What age should I start learning computer science ?
Computer science can be introduced to kids as early as five. By the age of six, a child’s brain has approximately twice as many synapses (connections that allow lightning-fast communication among neurons) as it would have when it is an adult. If not used, almost half of these synapses will disappear at the age of 20. Learning is crucial for your child throughout this time in their lives because of this.
Should kids learn computer science ?
Children should study computer science since it is an excellent approach to foster their creativity and analytical abilities. Students can test the limits of a virtual box by coming up with original solutions without having to deal with a messy environment or complicated setup. The 21st century’s most important skills for success at work and in the marketplace are critical and creative thinking.

The Stage Manager: Chapter 1
Y/N watched the comic strip since the early days so they decided to be a stage manager being a stage manager already involved hard work like fixing cables and props but can they fix the problems of a cast member as well?
1989:
The First gig, the comic strip and the lord of misrule you met because of it
It was night time on the cold, colourful London streets
The bright buildings made the sights look like something from a 1960s painting
You had been wandering for a while and felt bored
Yes you did buy that one shirt just because it had ziggy stardust on the front
Television was dull anything that wasn’t a music-related or to do to with game shows you’d skip over
looking around the city of Soho when you came across the Raymond Revue bar
It looked dull at first when to the corner of your eye you could see people chuckling as they walked downstairs.
Overhearing the sound of an audience and strange sound effects you went upstairs and realised what the commotion was.
There were some comedians performing, Young comedians with new innovative material drawing inspiration from slapstick legends like laurel and hardy to “alternative comedy” jabs of political satire they were called The Comic Strip Presents.
You could hear two blokes who had a blues brothers type performance called the outer limits, a duo called French and Saunders and many others including Pamela Stevenson, Keith Allen and a communist satirist influenced by the Monty Python days called Alexei Sayle.
The night sounded enjoyable the last time you had ever heard good comedy was through the old porridge and Fawlty towers tapes.
Then another performer walked onstage he had pigtails, a red communist berret and a black jacket decorated with political badges.
“I don’t know if any of you are into poetry at all” he addressed the audience, scrunching up his nose smirking.
He then performed a monologue about theatre “Theatre! What are you? Theatre”
When I’m nearta the theatre “I ask myself this question I don’t know perhaps I should ask Vanessa Redgrave”
He shouted “But I don’t know Vanessa Redgrave” before he smirked again at the audience “And neither do you theatre”
When his monologue finished you were jaw dropped this bloke had so much charisma and energy in his performance his snarky attitude was funny and it looked like he was self-aware just having good fun with his audience.
Arriving home you couldn’t get his words and face out of your head even when looking at your old records of The Damned and Madness you’d just see his face in your mind.
With your knowledge of Performing Arts after a few years you decided to volunteer you asked Alexei Sayle if you could do some “behind the scenes work” he agreed.
The first day was something you rattled your teeth about on the way there but once you arrived the atmosphere was easy to adjust to, being an assistant stage manager was like being a bartender sometimes you’d just be fixing cables and preparing props other times you’d overhear the daily gossip but usually you’d only keep it to yourself or you’d joke with Keith Allen about it over a few drinks.
You once observed Pamela Stevenson being mocked about by the catty duo from before
Saying nothing because you left the drama in your secondary school years and you wanted to keep it that way.
However, when you’d see her in the staff room you’d try to chat.
She’d enjoy the conversations but you learned that she felt more left out when they did tours
She felt like the boys could impress the audience in ways she couldn’t and even on the female performer's side she felt like they were just competitive sometimes you’d also run into the duo that made fun of her but you’d just laugh along about it.
Sometimes while fixing cables or props you’d talk to a bloke called Ade he was another performer you’d talk about life with, you’d talk about punk music, your school years and he’d mention the one time there was a technical fault on a Dangerous Brothers skit where he was on fire and the producers didn’t notice.
Peter was one of those outer limits sometimes it would just be him other times Nigel would join usually you’d discuss a film with them or you’d help out with the technical side of their performances.
These were all interesting people who you would talk about many topics with….then there was him.
You’d see him on stage, you’d arrange technical effects for him and other times when everybody else was busy you’d talk to him
It was that day after a performance the others were having drinks and while he would sometimes be the person to be the social butterfly this time he was just there drinking while he frowned
You looked at him, he stared back soon a conversation was started once you agreed you’d talk with him in his dressing room.
He sat there frowning looking in the mirror and then glancing at photos he had of his heroes Little Richard, Ronnie Barker and Tommy Cooper.
“Hey!, (Y/N) as a performer you’ve  probably seen me when I played that poet character or Kevin Turvey those years ago Alexi had said you had seen us before.”
You nodded
“Well I’m happy that we were able to amaze you so much that it made you want to be a part of *The Experience* he said, excitedly making mime-like gestures with his hands”
You noticed he had that same aura about him that David Bowie had when he’d talk in interviews about Ziggy Stardust and how there was a big difference between chill laid back bowie and the loud flamboyant Ziggy you could see in his tired eyes that he was stressed
You asked “I might be happy but I’m not sure you are, is there anything going on that is stressing you? being a star carries a lot of hard to fulfil expectations if you don’t want to say that’s ok but I can see you're still trying to project your stage self instead of your real self.”
He blinked a bit surprised of how perspective you were “What nonsense, I’m happy I’m Rik Mayall I make people happy and when I perform I am happy” his smile became a frown, “Well I try to be”
You stared folding your hands as he then started to explain,
“I admit times have been crap recently, the new show I did for Ben Elton wasn’t successful enough so we’ll have to cancel it, while I love my new wife years ago I did make the mistake of being with her at the same time of being with my girlfriend Lise who co-wrote The Young Ones with me and it just feels empty on stage I have something I have my characters I have my jokes but to be honest I feel boring there are some good days and other times where I rip myself apart if I mess up my lines.”
You nodded as you processed his rant
“I feel like all the people and critics will think of me now because of that show is “oh look there’s that bloke who isn’t funny anymore” I’ll be nothing, I don’t work with Ben much anymore..I-I’ve been thinking of being a drama teacher”
You blinked you couldn’t believe that he would think of such a suggestion
putting your hand on his shoulder.
“Look you had an unsuccessful show, there are many bad shows out there but filthy, rich and catflap isn’t the worst, and that won’t be the main thing you’ll be associated with your an actor, you're a singer in that BAD NEWS band and your the most talented comedian I’ve ever seen, critics will be critics unfortunately, but your Rik Mayall you’ll find your spark again you’ll find another show or film you be in that will have the same memorable characters, settings and stories that your other successful works have”
he nodded still frowning looking away
“Yeah your right sometimes the spark goes out and other times the energy arrives back, thank you for the advice..still what show can I do that isn’t a flop I have the qualification I’d be a great drama teacher”
You smirked at him “a drama teacher who makes telling knob jokes and ranting about politics part of the lesson”
He cringed a little before he chuckled  “I wouldn’t do that in front of children (Y/N)! politics though is in everything theatre, history, television you can’t escape it, I’d let them make their own decisions knowledge and freedom is what they need but half the time it’s swayed by the opinions of their parents, the fascist pigs or of their teachers”
You were puzzled “Who are they?”
He then got up from his seat and smiled making more hand gestures before he rambled cheerfully
“Children, they are influenced by what they see and what they hear with all the political rubbish there needs to be some sunshine in the storm, children are smart but too many people including people in the television business take advantage of them, bastards! Children  have thoughts and wide imaginations, they should be respected they should be able to see the good in the world and the media should be providing that.”
You clicked your fingers as you got an idea “Hey Children's Programming you should do that! You were excellent at jackanory when you appeared on there you should do that again your great at narrating stories maybe you could create your own storytelling kids to show what stories would you read?”
He liked the idea “Fairy tales it’s the tales they are most familiar with because of Disney, funny because the original Grimm tales were very dark”
You said “Well how about you make this series about the Brothers Grimm fairy tales but it doesn’t have to be the glamorised Disney versions or the gritty originals it could be a sort of modern but original take on the stories and maybe you could add animation in there so each story would be different and it would give a chance for different animation companies to show their skills to a wider audience so not only would you be entertaining them but also teaching them about these timeless tales”
He agreed “The show will be called Grimm tales, I’m working with ITV at the moment so I could ask them about the idea thank you (Y/N) this is brilliant when I was little I loved seeing my heroes like Ronnie Barker read out stories and now I’m doing just that”
You smiled but still felt unsure about his other problem….the relationship problem
“Uh, Rik what about your relationship?”
He had a thought for a while and then said “I’ll try to repair relations between me and Lise if I want to move on from my mistakes I should take responsibility for them”
He grinned as he packed his belongings and headed home

Meet the team: developing Piclo Flex into a multi-market platform
Tumblr media
Meet Piclo's developers, innovation managers, leaders and designers. They're behind all the innovation and project management that's developing Piclo into a multi-market platform!
Kelsey, Innovation Project Manager
Mike, Product Designer
Stu, Product Engineer
Alice, co-founder and CPO
As part of the UK Government Department for Business Energy Industrial Strategy (BEIS) FleX Exchange project, Piclo is developing Piclo Flex into a multi-market platform that facilitates “secondary trading” of flexibility requirements, focusing on National Grid ESO’s Capacity Market first. Secondary trading is the transfer of one company's contracted flexibility obligations to another, you can read more about secondary markets in our previous blog. The innovation project is currently trialling secondary trading on the platform in beta-mode with a small number of participants.
Tumblr media
Q1. What is your role in developing Piclo into a multi-market platform?
My role is to make sure that the platform continues to evolve and grow, through participation in different innovation projects and managing the day to day work around these projects. I work with different teams internally throughout the life of a project to deliver new markets and features, as well as with a variety of external stakeholders (System Operators, Flex Providers, Government, Regulators, etc) to make sure that projects are closely aligned with industry needs and policy.
Q2. What do you enjoy most about working on this?
I love having a problem to solve and developing Piclo into a multi-market platform presents new challenges every day. It’s been really interesting to strategise and brainstorm ideas about new markets with the team and see them come to life. Building a product that will shape or change how an industry will work is a really cool thing!
Q3. Are there particular skills you need for this role?
Flexibility (pun intended). The industry is changing so quickly and projects and products need to keep up with that. Our innovation projects and really any work we do is based on the needs of our users and if those needs change, we need to be ready to adapt our ideas. As a project manager, I think the natural instinct is to have a detailed plan of attack to stick with but I’ve quickly learned at Piclo that those plans need to be flexible and more than likely will be changing on a regular basis.
Q4. Other than working on this project, what else does your role include?
In order to understand what new features we should be looking into, I also spend a lot of time in project meetings with clients and stakeholders as well as researching what is going on in the industry. Pre-Covid I also got to do a bit of travel! One of my projects (Project LEO) is based in Oxford and we frequently got to eat lunch in the “Harry Potter Great Hall”.
Q5. What did you do before joining Piclo?
I worked in renewable energy district energy systems in Vancouver, Canada. Our main project was converting a legacy gas-powered steam plant (that provided energy to over 200 buildings) to renewable sources.
Q6. Why did you like the look of the job?
Having previously worked in the energy industry, I wanted to stay in that space but this role was a great opportunity to get introduced to the tech world as well. There is a lot of change going on in how our energy systems work and where our energy comes from but in such a big established industry, that change can often take a long time and requires a lot of regulatory and government oversight. Working on the tech side of the industry is a lot more fast-paced, with room for innovation as there are fewer legacy systems and regulations we are working against.
Q7. Piclo is built on the belief that we are not powerless against climate change. Is tackling climate change important to you? Is there anything you do to contribute?
Yes, it is! I try to do as many little things in my day to day life as possible that hopefully are having a positive impact! Just to name a few are cycling, avoiding single-use plastics, buying as much as I can second-hand and working in an industry and for a company whose mission is to positively impact climate change.
Q8. What advice would you give to someone wanting to follow a similar career to yours?
For those that are in a standard slow-moving industry like energy and are looking for a change up to something more innovative and fast-paced, moving over to the tech side of the industry is a great move.
Tumblr media
Q1. What is your role in developing Piclo into a multi-market platform?
As a product designer on the team, my job is to help us work towards solutions that balance the needs of users with the needs of Piclo. From qualitative user research interviews, through to workshop facilitation, the creation of production-ready UI artefacts in Figma and providing input and guidance on implementation details, I work end-to-end to ensure a high-quality outcome.
Q2. What do you enjoy most about working on this?
Ultimately, getting to work on ideas from start to finish that positively contribute towards the transition to Net Zero is immensely satisfying and worth all the hard work.
Q3. Are there particular skills you need for this role?
There are many, but probably the most underrated category of skills is that of the ‘soft skills’ needed to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional team. Being able to work smoothly with and talk the same language as colleagues with different specialisms and backgrounds is essential.
Q4. Other than working on this project, what else does your role include?
I work across two product teams, and also support what the business' design needs from a marketing, brand and operations perspective. This also includes a focus on building out the team’s design ops capabilities, such as maintaining UI libraries in Figma and evolving our fledgling design system.
Q5. What did you do before joining Piclo?
Just prior to joining Piclo, I’d taken a career break to figure out what I wanted to do next. Before that, I worked for six years in the Fintech space, working across brand, marketing and product functions for a startup in the consumer credit space. Prior to that, I worked as an agency-side graphic and web designer.
Q6. Why did you like the look of the job?
So, in my case, Piclo actually approached me via Hired.com. I wasn’t super keen right away, however after meeting the team and getting a better understanding of the mission, I was sold. As mentioned above, I’d taken a career break to figure out what I wanted to do next, and Piclo seemed to tick all the boxes, both from a career development as well as industry perspective.
Q7. Piclo is built on the belief that we are not powerless against climate change. Is tackling climate change important to you? Is there anything you do to contribute?
Yes, absolutely. Like a lot of people, I’m looking for and figuring out ways to live a life that is more sustainable and in balance with the wider world, and I want the work I do on a daily basis to have a net-positive contribution to that cause.
Q8. What advice would you give to someone wanting to follow a similar career to yours?
It’s a great time to be an aspiring designer. We come in all different shapes and sizes, from Graphic Design, through to Service Design or Motion Design, there is a specialism out there to suit everyone. If you’re early on in your career, don’t be afraid to try out new things, change roles often and expose yourself to as many different ways of working as possible. If you’re more experienced and have been around the block a few times, never rest on your laurels, always be learning and be open to change.
Tumblr media
Q1. What is your role in developing Piclo into a multi-market platform?
I work closely with other developers, designers and managers to ensure we build a product that delivers for its users while staying lean and efficient. This involves understanding and prioritising user needs, finding the simplest ways to solve problems, planning technical architecture, ensuring the team works well together, coding (mostly Python/Django and JavaScript/Vue), reviewing code, and proving it works and meets quality expectations. My role overlaps with a lot of other roles, so is highly collaborative, often using Trello and Miro to discuss, visualise ideas, and decide together.
Q2. What do you enjoy most about working on this?
I’ve loved creating something new and useful, avoiding over-engineering, learning as we go, and collaborating closely. Building upon the existing Piclo Flex platform gives us a great toolkit of components to use, so combined with careful prioritisation, we’ve been able to move very quickly and get a sense of achievement seeing people using the product very early on.
Q3. Are there particular skills you need for this role?
I think curiosity and adaptability are the most important skills for working in product development. No matter how much knowledge and experience you have, you still regularly encounter new problems: curiosity enables you to understand them, and adaptability enables you to learn how to solve them.
Q4. Other than working on this project, what else does your role include?
I’m also part of the Integrations team, whose remit is to help Piclo’s users optimise processes through API integrations with users’ systems and other partners. In this team, I support my teammates in their careers at Piclo, guide strategy and prioritisation for our workstream, participate in user interviews, and whatever else is necessary to make our work a success.
Q5. What did you do before joining Piclo?
I was at a digital product agency for 9 years, where I worked on a range of different apps and campaigns for big brands, in roles across engineering, product management, coaching, and consultancy. Prior to that, I worked in electronic engineering for networking and communications systems.
Q6. Why did you like the look of the job?
I was keen to be involved in clean electricity generation, and was intrigued by the part flexibility can play. I love Piclo’s open and supportive ethos. I knew it was somewhere I would learn a lot and would be able to help others to develop too while doing important and interesting work.
Q7. Piclo is built on the belief that we are not powerless against climate change. Is tackling climate change important to you? Is there anything you do to contribute?
It’s hugely important, which is why I wanted to work in clean electricity generation: I see it as the backbone supporting all other efforts. I could do more to contribute personally, but I drive a hybrid (but walk as often as possible!), compost veg waste in my tiny garden, and am looking into gas-free heating.
Q8. What advice would you give to someone wanting to follow a similar career to yours?
If you want to be a generalist or span multiple roles: don’t wait for someone to give you permission to explore outside your immediate responsibilities. A lot of organisations define roles to be very specific, so it can take some initiative to get exposure to new areas. Ask different people questions, read a lot, and offer to help out with things you find interesting!
Tumblr media
Q1. What is your role in developing Piclo into a multi-market platform?
My role across Piclo is often non-typical. As a founder, one of my key responsibilities is to keep the project and product on the right track according to the strategy of the business. I’ve been lightly involved in the multi-market platform from the beginning, working with Kelsey and James in the early days to identify the opportunities for us in the market. Then later when we hired Mike to join, giving him the support to work on the more detailed design, consciously considering how the new product markets we’re testing will be integrated into the platform when we commercially launch.
Q2. What do you enjoy most about working on this?
I enjoy working with a team who all have different skills to pull together on a project like this. When a team is working well, they can meet the challenges that are inevitable to face and come out with learnings from failure and value from success.
Q3. Are there particular skills you need for this role?
To do my role you need to be good at observing and finding patterns (a kind of analytics that isn’t directly numbers based). Empathy is also a requirement as you need to easily consider the implications of a project both across your team, but also the potential customers.
Q4. Other than working on this project, what else does your role include?
When not working on new projects like this, I'm responsible in general for the product direction i.e. what’s the medium and long term roadmap for the Piclo Flex marketplace. I’m also responsible for product delivery and having happy customers. I spend a lot of time learning from our customers (currently the network operators) to understand their needs better and bring that information into the commercial team when talking to potential new customers. There’s also the team support work and hiring that goes on, as well as governance responsibilities that comes with being on the board.
Q5. What did you do before joining Piclo?
I was working for a digital agency as a UX designer
Q6. Why did you like the look of the job?
My friend Andy (the CTO) approached me with James (our CEO) and we talked about the early ideas of the business. I saw an opportunity to bring my design thinking skills into a vision-driven business that I thought had a decent chance of making a significant impact in the industry.
Q7. Piclo is built on the belief that we are not powerless against climate change. Is tackling climate change important to you? Is there anything you do to contribute?
As 1 of the 3 founders, this is obviously my personal driving passion. Other than restoring natural habitats I don’t think there’s anything more important than driving our energy industry towards Net Zero (and hopefully beyond that).
Q8. What advice would you give to someone wanting to follow a similar career to yours?
A design degree is a fantastic way to start a variety of careers. It gives one the skills to apply a design process to any problem. If someone wanted to also be a founder of a startup, my advice would be to choose an idea that drives you and find a friend or two (who have skills you don’t) to work on it with. It’s a really difficult job, you’ll need to feel like there’s a real value for you to push through those hard times, and having co-founders you can rely on is important.
