UPCOMING CARD!! And the cast for this episode!!!
OKAY MY SHIT IS TOGETHER ENOUGH NOW. This is so fucking funny chat my throat hurts from laughing there are tears in my eyes I GUARANTEE YOU NOT A SINGLE PERSON GOT THE WHOLE CAST RIGHT. I was laughing so much at all of this that i just could not even sit down and get this together for like an hour

Episode 18's title is "Lost Stars"(「七夕の迷い子」 "The Lost Child Of Tanbata")! Unfortunately they're continuing the trend of not putting the next episode sprites in until the day the episode comes out, so we won't have any clue who's in it until we get to the end of this episode. . .but given it's around a Japanese festival, Hotarubi maybe???
I'm going to go laugh some more and read the episode titles with my friends lol.
Some of you were already upset when i spoiled the cast. I know it sucks to see a big inter house squad episode that your favorite isn't in. Especially if you're really fixated on seeing them in a roamntic light and you were looking forward to seeing how they perform in a silly dating game. But just remember that your favorite will have their time in other episodes. No need to fret, just be patient. And, if you're into this sentiment, remember that they love and want to see you too, even if they don't quite show it in a straightforward way.
And if you're disappointed by the card for your favorite, be happy! That's more diamonds for next time. You can always voice your feelings to ZZG themselves too, although I wouldn't count on them making any changes. . . .
Gacha is gambling! There are probably FIVE more cards coming after this for this episode!! There's no need to go crazy spending trying to get this card--or any of the coming ones!--because the banners will always rerun and you'll get more chances to pick them up later! If you do decide to spend, keep a close eye on your spending and set limits for yourself. And make sure you keep to them! Take care of yourself first and foremost! That means making sure you have the money for necessities and for more certain entertainment and pleasures! Happiness is a necessity too!
I normally throw innsome kind of character or card themed advice here but. . .let's be real, Jin would just tell you to choose him. And let's be real he has the money to make him a good choice no matter what. . .gold digging is always a morally acceptable choice, as long as you're not in danger!! But remember that a clash in values can be dangerous too! That's my advice.

✦ LOST IN LIMBO DEVLOG #18 | 05.02.2025
Phew. Brace yourselves—this one is packed, so let's have a bullet list for those who don't want to read me yapping for another month!
Extended Demo: Prologue backgrounds done! ✨
All the new sprites for the LIs and their expressions are done and coded! ✨
The Prologue script is done and ready to be proofreaded, with more than 36k extra words! ✨

First of all, let's talk Extended Demo! We can confirm our first update with the new sprites and some new features will come not in June, but in May! :^) We'll set a date pretty soon; even if it's not the juicy major update you're waiting for, we hope you are looking forward to it!
As for the CHUNK of it all, the new prologue, that'll have to wait a bit more. We want to wait until we can give y'all a precise date before saying anything, but know work is going well. Sadly, we have decided not to join Steam's Next Fest this time around as the big update won't be coming until a bit more later. Let's see it!

So, first of all, our first big big update, version 2.0, will come this year. Version 2.0 will include the new prologue, which features you can see listed on the right. There's more, but we have listed only the juiciest stuff. Our Kickstarter Beta Access Backers will receive the first build of the update (without any major bugs), and once they deem it ready, it'll be sent to our Kickstarter Early Access backers. Then, boom! To the world!
This update will pave the path for the first chapter of every route, something we want to offer for free, as you may remember. First will be Amon (v2.1), then Gael(v2.2), Raeya, Envy, Ara, Xal, and Pride. Then, we'll work on two routes simultaneously (script wise) but prioritize one. That means we'll work on Gael's route while working on Amon's, but Amon's will have priority. After every chapter of every route is out, no more free / public updates will be done until final release. We'll enter public early access for those who want to pay for it. Of course, our Kickstarter Beta and Early Access will have all the content before it goes public.
After our first big update, we'll open a Patreon as some of you have suggested to keep investing in the game and maybe, if things go well, to start supporting ourselves :^) You'll be able to enjoy special content, updates, and get Early Access to the game's progress (at a price we'll discuss with our backers first to make it fair for them. Please keep in mind our Kickstarter Backers will have priority on everything!).
Now, changes in the workload / responsibilities have been made after analyzing Raquel's new situation and it becoming a (for now) permanent part in her life.
To compensate for the amount of work Raquel won't realistically be able to pull of, we've decided to officially have Airyn work on our concept and character art as well. If we want the development of the game to keep going steadily, we have to put our (and your) money to good use. Don't worry, we've mathed hard and we've got the funds for it! Our composer has already been paid for our original soundtrack (our first and only stretch goal!), so that and other stuff are secured :^).
As of today, the new sprites and the new expressions of all our LI's are done and coded! Also, Raquel has implemented the fixes you all suggested for our dear dad. Tree Pride is no more, the golden accents are yellower, and the original tone of the gauntlets is back! Also his head tilt and his smile have made a comeback, as y'all wanted!
Thanks to Raquel for her hard work, all the sprites are ready for our first update!
Also, work on Evie's concept art has started! Our Kickstarter folks will get a sneak peek of some sketches, so you folks will have to wait a bit to see her! In addition, Astro has begun working on more voidbound, so you can encounter more versions of them instead of just voidbound-chan! :^)
All the backgrounds for the Prologue of the Extended Demo are done!! ✨And animated, by the way!
Now, as Airyn will be helping us with the characters, we will have to halt work on the backgrounds for a little while. After the Prologue come Amon and Gael's first chapter, and those will include a lot of new locations, and we'll have to dedicate some time to properly flesh out the aesthetics for both routes. During this small break, I'll properly design the moodboards to give to Astro and Airyn as soon as the new characters are done :^)!
The writing for the Extended Demo: Prologue is done. DONE. I'M DONE.
Originally the new prologue was going to be 20k extra words, buuuut we are sitting at 36k extra. Our editor Allie side-eyed me a bit (with love), and we both know some chopping may be done because I tend to write above my possibilities. So, now we are entering the "this could've been an email" phase. I hope the wait for the first update of the Extended Demo is worth it—I think it'll be, but you'll be the ones to judge!
I've, obviously, been programming the new sprites, as well as the bones of what will be our Achievements section, again thanks to beloved Feniks who has a tool for this in Ren'Py. Achievements won't be coming until our big update, but I want to get the jist of it with enough time!
I also have been battling the code to make it so those of you who turn off the Timed choices know easily when there's a timed choice and when a choice is...well, not timed. Timed choices will have a cute little hourglass on each side! Also, a lot of miscellania like adding Tomás in our credits, revisiting the game to make sure the sprites work accordingly, changing the gallery graphics so they match the new sprites, and so on!
New art has been added to the artbook, and our manufacturer has finally given us a date in which our pins will be done! That's more relevant to our Kickstarter backers, so more about that in there. Kayden is still working on a bunch of mini CG's, as per usual!
Soundtrack wise, Tomás has delivered even more than we needed for our first big update—instead of only two tracks, we now have four original tracks that will be added to our big update! They are finished, cleaned, and ready to go. And let me tell you, they're absolutely breathtaking :`)
April has also been the month to fight taxes, the government, and our own counselor. We even had a big scare with a bunch of oopsies that surprisingly weren't our fault, but that's solved now!
As for our personal lives, I've been fighting the demons of my PhD courses and trying not to cry when faced with math (I failed). Astro has made some big decisions about the course of his life that we see as something positive, Raquel is feeling the pressure of her irl work and wanting to give more to LiL, and Kayden is existing peacefully. Damn I hate that guy /j.
Oh, also, Airyn is very happy to be able to help us a bit more. She's also been working a lot on different stuff (not only for us!), so send good vibes her way!
Somehow this devlog doesn't feel like a lot????? And we did a lot of stuff! Progress is going great!
I guess we are feeling a bit down because the first big update won't make it to this June. We were giving it our all, but even with Airyn's official help, we don't dare to say it'll be ready for June. You always feel like a...not pressure, but duty? To give a date (even if it's just an approximate one) but we'd rather not this time around. Let's just see how everything flows while giving it our all.
That being said, I'm headed to get some rest! I hope you all are doing alright, and as always, thank you so much for the support, the kindness, and everything else 💜

Hi-ho, Wudge here!
I'm pretty excited to write this update. It feels like the past few(?) have been kinda downers that bum me out cuz I felt like I didn't do enough, but this past week I accomplished a lot!!!
A little preview...

When I started out as a developer, I didn't really understand what would be built-in for me in ren'py, and I'd have to code in on my own.
Until this point, my playtesting process was....
play through the game from the very beginning
save the game at certain points
take a break for the day
come back another day and squint at the save files trying to determine where I left off, and what still needs doing
replay the game from the beginning again because the save files didn't contain the exact location/world state that I needed to test
...And as I made progress on writing and coding the story of Herotome, it became more taxing to playtest the game from the beginning.
It didn't hit me until very recently, many years into devving, that I could make my own devtool to jump between scenes.
I even wrote little recaps for myself per scene. :') feelsgoodman.jpeg
It took about a full day to code as test these screens, but they've worked beautifully. I'll likely still playteset Herotome from the beginning again sometime before releasing the next episode -- but I no longer have to playtest from the beginning almost every time I playtest.
For now, these screens are for my private use; but with some modifications and testing, I may make them available in the next edition of Herotome.. or in the release after that. We'll see. No promises, because jumping into the game from Scene Selection is useful for me as the developer, but it's a lotlotlotlot more likely to cause immersion-breaking bugs for a player.
And now that I have these screens, it made it soooooooooo much easier to jump to my newest story segments and to work on them - mainly to code in sprite/art positioning segments. Behold...!

I worried a lot that this solo scene with MC would be boring, but having visible art has really helped it feel more engaging.
If you notice the video titles, view counts, comment section... that's all manually written and coded in by me. Having it all in code (rather than put together in a .png file) means I can alter the writing in renpy very easily without ever switching to an art program, it's an absolute treat I did for myself and I'm very happy about it.

I also uh... made these.. lol.
I've been feeling particularly unsatisfied with my sprite concept art lately, so my tactic to stop indefinitely fretting/fussing over them was to turn the sprites into shadowy stand-in blobs. I'm much more satisfied with the blobs. I no longer have to worry about their sprites' face shapes, fashion choices, body postures, or how I feel like my art isn't good enough.. because for now they're just blobs!
I'll be replacing the blobs with actual character art later, of course, NPC art is just soooo low priority that fretting over their imperfections felt like wasting time and energy.
I also did a bit of positioning for Katie... nothing new to show off from my success, but I do have a curious failure to share.
Somehow, Katie's cute little kitty sprite went to sit on the cabinet and fits there perfectly (aside from uh.. being a bit too big for a cat lol).
Going back to my Scene Selection screen - basically, I got through most of scenes 11-13! Having all the scenes numbered here in a list and immediately acccessible (in various worldstates of my choosing) is sooooo much better for me than the save file thumbnails... Idk if I've been able to explain it clearly at all, but I hope at least my excitement and relief shone through in this devlog.

2024 Recap & 2025 GOALS
I'M BAAAAACCKKKKKK
Well, well, well.... Look who it IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello my friends.
It is I!!!
To say it's been a while since we've really talked would be an understatement. This bitch rly went fckn off the radar that second half of 2024. But I'm happy to say I am making my debut once again and I am back on the scene!!!
I hope the start of 2025 has been going well for you all <3 I'm happy and excited to say that after a grueling 2024 and relaxing holidays, I'm finally back and ready to get to WORK on Alaris! I thought a nice way to get back into things would be a big 'ol yappy post in true Crescence fashion so that you all know exactly where I, and Alaris, are at as we enter the new year :')
I'm excited to say that while I don't have a set date yet...
Alaris WILL be releasing this year even if it kills me.
Just as my big year goal in 2024 was to graduate and I used every ounce of inner strength to make that happen, finishing and releasing Alaris is my big goal this year. I've kept you all waiting long enough, and I'm confident that Alaris is at a point that we'll be able to do a release this year. Of course, if this changes, you all will be the first to know. But I'm very hopeful that we can make a 2025 release happen ^^
That being said, I think it might be nice to do a 2024 recap so we can see just how far the project has come, even if I was shoved off the face of the earth in the later months of 2024 \o/
Last year, we actually finished ALL the writing for every route except for Aisa's! Meaning we reached 300k words of writing for the game and only have 50k words left YEEAAAAAA. And all routes are written up except for one! This was a huge milestone for me since I still remember when I finished the first 50k for the game with Kayn's route all the way back in the beginning. And we're finally nearing the end.
I've always considered writing the hardest part of game development so to have finally reached a point where almost all of the writing is finished was a huge achievement for me last year.
We also made HUGE progress on the art front last year ^^ Not only did we finish all of the backgrounds for the full game, we also got a new GUI, updated sprites and CGs, and a new promo piece in anticipation for the release of the new demo.



We also made progress on CGs for the full game, which I will not be showing because spoilers and those are special nuggets Patreon and Kickstarter backers get access to hehe. But we made about 16 finished CGs last year, getting us to a total of 22 CGs and about halfway through our CG count!!
Last but definitely not least, we actually had a good amount of releases last year (considering I got fckn bodied in the second half of the year) ^^

In 2024, believe it or not, I actually released the extended version of Intertwine! It featured new music, slightly more polished programming, and almost double the writing :') And with this release, we saw Intertwine get a lot more love throughout the year and actually reached 200k plays and 1k ratings (crazy numbers I never thought I'd see in all my days). So thank you all for continuing to love my fated child <3

We also released the enhanced demo for Alaris last year, featuring a polished script (with some revised dates), partial voice acting, custom OST, new GUI, new BGs, updated sprites and CGs, and much more! This was an exciting milestone for me since it felt like we finally were approaching a release that reflected what the full game would feel like, and I couldn't have been happier with the release :') It meant so much to me that old and new players enjoyed it as much as they did and really gave me the motivation endorphins to keep chipping away towards full release

And then, perhaps the most exciting of all, Alaris entered its BETA ROUTE ERAAAAAA!!!! We kicked it off with Kayn in honor of hot girl summer, but made our way through half of the LIs with Kayn, Fenir, and Druk each getting their own moment to shine \o/ The reception to these routes was super motivating since players finally got to experience content I'd been working on and keeping to myself for almost a year, and I've been so happy seeing people fall in love with the LIs in in different ways :')
Usually I do a little recap with fanart I make of games I played throughout the year as well, but this year I wanted to do something different and dedicate this little section to YOU ALL!!
In 2024, the Alaris community was blessed with fanart, memes, character questions, and more :') For some reason, 2024 was the year a lot of you decided to really show your love for the game, and it's one of the biggest things that's maintained my sanity, and the reason I love working on the game. While I can't show all the fanart everyone made, I wanted to take a second to show some love

I know I dropped the ball near the end of 2024, but I hope you all know how much seeing fanart and people engaging with Alaris means to me. I hope this year I can be better at recognizing and fostering the love in the community for all of our LIs, and I can't wait for another year with you all!

if you don't mind, could you go through your creative process? how you make your puppets, how you animate them and such?
Sure thing anon! I'll try my best..
First of all though don't expect anything AMAZING because this is super unprofessional and I basically improvise most of it, so uh, yeah.
I was making Frisk so we'll use them as an example I guess.
I make a base for the character first thing, using polystyrene ( DO NOT USE CHESTNUTS, your welcome) and pipe cleaners. (You can see I put Frisk's colours there too, cuz I think it's cool but it also serves an actual purpose... You can probably guess too ;))

Then I just make the rest of the character, typically I start from down, up. I try to keep as close to the original sprites as possible, don't add anything and make sure it's simple. So with the hair only those slight details you can see and the clothes have just the stripes. Unfortunately I couldn't make a real onesie for Frisk :(
(I added the stripes on the sleeves too, for Frisk it's because of that one sprite - you know the one! - and Chara weeellll, they're actually based on TS!UNDERSWAP Chara and they have the stripe there, also it just looks better...imo)
Don't really know how to explain this ... So I'll just jot down some things I do or I've learnt from working on them.
Whenever there's something on a character's clothes (eg. Frisk's stripes), I do that first before closing off the shirt, it saves an awkward hassle later.
If there's supposed to be a joint (e.g. knees, elbows) I separate the felt there. So I know where the joint is when I'm animating and it's easier to bend without restrictions. (You can most probably see this on Chara and Frisk)

The hands are my favourite to do! I make a skeleton hand (basically) out of wire and then stitch two hand shaped felts around it so that the wire is inside and you have posable fingers!!
The head is usually the trickiest part, (I never know how to do the hair!!) for me it's just trial and error, there's no point in planning it out on paper because I wouldn't even know where to BEGIN!! That's just me though!
The eyes and mouth need to be changeable, so no glue or anything, I just stick em on and they... Stay there. Sometimes.
WARNING! The amount of needles and felt pieces you will lose is catastrophic. You have been warned...

I used Chara as a reference here, copying what I'd done to get another fallen human...
And.... You got yourself a puppet!! :D
For a Chara sized puppet it takes 2-3 days, Flowey was done in one. Sometimes I come back and fix something up, or replace it, if I don't like it. I'll most probably do that to everyone at some point :'(
I'll make another one of these to show how I animate these guys, cuz I don't want this to be too long.
Also if anyone understood any of that and if you DO make a puppet based on this, I'd really love to see it! :D

Do you think Madeline could obtain all seven dragon balls and defeat Frieza?
i have spent an embarrassingly long time thinking about this.
in short: madeline could absolutely get all of the dragon balls. there's no feasible way she'd defeat frieza in a fight. if she used the dragon balls, she could defeat frieza via incapacitation.
in long? well... that's a funny story.
for the record, this is the first time i've ever power scaled something myself. that is to say i'm a little embarrassed to show my work. this is going to be rough, full of holes and inconsistencies, and partially based on vibes (a lot of sources boil down to "just look at it"). that said, i think my findings are more than interesting enough to make up for being amateurish. who knows, maybe someone will come along later and clean up my mess.
also, i'm well aware vs battles has a wiki page for madeline. however, they (logically) assume she's not her canon height of 7' tall. so i'm taking matters into my own hands and figuring things out myself.
let's lay the foundation first. on the dragon ball side of things, we're gonna assume the verse is pre-namek saga, so frieza is alive and the dragon balls only grant one wish. we're also gonna assume the z-fighters and co doesn't actively interfere with madeline and her goals, and that they don't need the dragon balls for anything. simple stuff.
to lay the foundations for celeste, we're assuming madeline just came fresh out of chapter 8; she'd be at her peak in-story, having already endured the treacherous nature of celeste's trail and the unwelcoming environment on the path to its core.
given the dash is probably something given to her by the mountain (the player simply can't dash until a certain point in the game, even if they know how), we can assume she probably doesn't have it if she's not on or near the mountain.
since we're focusing on what madeline is capable of, we're gonna do a few calculations. for future reference, we'll dictate that
madeline is 7' (84 inches) tall. this is canon.
madeline is 16 pixels tall, based on in game sprites.
madeline is ~218 lbs, which is (the average of) the average 7' woman's weight.
the inches per pixel of celeste is 84 / 16 = 5.25.
theo is 20 pixels tall, based on ingame sprites. 20 * 5.25 = 105, 105 / 12 = 8.75 feet, so...
theo is ~8'9 (~105 inches) tall.
theo is ~376 lbs, with data extrapolated from this table
we have no idea what the weight of the crystal theo is encased in is, or if the crystal theo is encased in even has a weight. it could be weightless but indestructible. since theo can be used to press buttons, something can only be done with a certain amount of force (like madeline dashing into them), we can assume it doesn't make him any lighter.
all that aside, madeline's notable feats include:
having a jump height of ~26 pixels (~136.5 inches, ~11.375 feet).
effortlessly lifting a 376 pound guy over her head.
effortlessly throwing said 376 pound guy ~93 pixels (~488.25 inches, ~40.6875 feet) away from her at a standstill. jesus christ.
effortlessly catching said 376 pound guy from theoretically any angle and any speed, while moving at theoretically any angle and any speed. extremely important to note that she does not get pushed back or otherwise hindered when this happens.
surviving and no-selling a plummet of well over 2500 meters (~8202.1 feet). not only did she fall, but she smashed through several feet of jagged crystals repeatedly with no repercussions. she did land in water, but since she was falling at terminal velocity, her bones should have splintered and killed her instantly. surviving fatally high falls is NOT a one-time occurrence, either.
being durable enough to smash through loose bricks and soft rock (since she can only do this in certain spots in-game, this implies said spots are weaker).
seemingly completely unfazed by extremely thin air, with no equipment to keep her breathing steady. keep in mind she's roughly 2.5 kilometers high in the air during this conversation with part of her.
seemingly completely unfazed by extreme heat and extreme cold, as well as the instantaneous switch between the two. this bitch is VERY extremophilic.
surprising amounts of will power. she'll even confront herself (heh) if it means getting what she wants.
can kick and wipe out Weird Fucked Up Eyeball Monsters three times her size.
in the funniest way possible, if i were to include farewell, i could technically say that madeline can outright manipulate reality. if she collects the berries in farewell, they end up in the strawberry pie in the epilogue. if we're to take this literally, that means she took them out of her dreams and into reality like she's fucking luffy. again, this would be an otherwise normal-ass canadian woman with that ability. as genuinely hilarious as that technicality is, this is so far beyond the vision of the developers that i'm not going to act on it. we could also technically claim she's functionally immortal because of Game Mechanics™. but i'm not going to do that because that would be boring.
also, we'll assume madeline just... knows frieza exists, somehow. frieza doesn't know madeline exists, but madeline's acutely aware of who frieza is, what he's capable of, and even what kind of shows he tunes into. the perks of anxiety, i guess.
anyway! we've established that madeline is exceptional for a human. at her base, she'd be on par with chi-chi. chi-chi's power level is 130, so we'll say that's madeline's power level as well. without any sort of known training - be it fighting or ki - she's already pretty fucking incredible.
all that said, let's see what she can actually do.
if money and travel aren't an object, i think madeline could 100% find the dragon balls and summon shenron. once she has her mind set on something, she'll see it through, even if it could kill her. she'd likely struggle since she doesn't have a radar, but since they have an electromagnetic pulse, she could try to find them with a metal detector if she knows where to look. since she undeniably has the ability to hold her own in a fight (just look at her feats!), actually getting the dragon balls really shouldn't be that hard of a task.
the same can't be said for the fight with frieza. if she were to get in a fight with frieza in her base form, she'd get wiped the fuck out. no contest. i really don't think that's a surprise to anyone. even if she uses the dragon balls, she would only match kami in power (whose power level is 220). in order to even touch first-form frieza, she would need a power level of 530k. his first-form is ~4076 times stronger than madeline's normally, and ~2409 times stronger if she was granted immense power.
the only way for her to have a fighting chance is if she trained her ki. that's assuming she'd be stronger than krillin, who is the strongest human. before the boost from grand elder guru, he would have had a power level of 13k in the frieza saga, which would mean this is the highest reasonable power level for madeline to achieve through vigorous training. if she were to reach that, first-form frieza would still be ~40 times stronger. an actual fight is a no-go.
she could maybe come up with a way to incapacitate frieza, however. since shenron can make wishes from a long ways away - including separate realms - there's a chance madeline could wish for, say, an undetectable gas leak on frieza's ship. this doesn't necessarily mean frieza would die, but he'd be fucked beyond belief if somebody lit a cigarette. what's more, it would be untraceable, meaning frieza would have no reason to be aggro'd against madeline.
to summarize, you're basically asking if chi-chi could defeat frieza on her own. the answer is "most certainly not with her fists."
...
however, if we instead use famous ROBLOX™ game Forsaken's interpretation of madeline as a baseline, she obviously scales to 1x1x1x1 (a fourth dimensional being) and therefore doesn't even need the dragon balls to absolutely obliterate frieza, so what the fuck ever /j

Vila's I1 outfit breakdown and
overanalysation
Head & hair
Babushka headscarf
Is awfully similar to kosynkas that Rayashkian women wear. I've classified it as babushka headscarf due to visibly bigger size and the inclusion of a babushka headscarf in 1st Anniversary exhibition. (the image is taken from this video)
Has an Item description that fits the neck scarf more - babushka headscarfs are not knit, and, during the 90-ies, are mostly worn by older women and church attendants. We'll return to the neck scarf later
Hairdo anatomy
Here comes OVERALYSATION! In another post I've mistaken the meaning of twin braids - they actually mean that the woman is married. Which is contradictory to the mainstream rusalki mythology and is fitting for vila mythology, since their main way of coming into human society was marriage to a human. Maybe it would be a suggestion of misteries of her life before Rayashki, but here's the catch - the loose hair and the ribbons! The loose hair, though, were not considered safe for humans, are both a symbol of inhumanity for various slavic mythological entities and a symbol of abrupt death for rusalki specifically. There was a ritual in which the maiden's single braid was unwoven, combed, and woven into twin braids by other maidens, right before her marriage - and it was included into beliefs around the restless souls. The ribbons, as far as I can see, were also way of saying "I'm not married yet". In conclusion, if to look at her haristyle through the lens of old Russian beliefs, she both follows and doesn't follows the expectation around the nymph-like group of creatures, and if to look through the lens of modern sensibilities, she feels pretty with traditional braids.
In "To Winnifred" anecdote, Eternity mentions to Brian that Rusalki have long hair, and all in-game depictions of Rusalki feature long hair. That indeed fits the mainstrean image of mythological rusalki.
Top Area
Scarf
In the Item description it's implied that the scarf is hand made
It's also stated to have patterns inspired the traditional cultures of the Far East, but I personally don't see the connection (but maybe I'm uncultured who knows). The pattern look like a simplified form of khokhloma though, which originates in Central European Russia
Shirt
Is a hybrid of modern office shirt (see: the buttons) and traditional shirt (see: the sleeves), with a ruffled collar
Coat
may or may not be unfit in the chest area - idk how to determine such tailoring nuance. Probably a second-hand
Has a sheep undercoat, probably a synthetic one
Bottom Area
Outer skirt
The folding and the camera angle in the main sprite makes it look like it has a mermaid cut, but other illustrations imply a pencil or a straight cut instead - which both fits the usual teacher dress code conventions of the setting and allows a more convinient inclusion of the inner skirt

Is tied in a weird knot and have a beaded lace woven into it
Inner (poneva) skirt
Poneva is actually an outer layer cloth piece, but who cares really
In the post-story activity it was stated that the poneva was made when Vila was taught how to sew by a Rayashki resident called Raisa
Poneva has a relaively simple cut and is held by a tie. Vila ties poneva in the back - I can imagine it's hella convinient for her transformations. It's not clear if the tapes on it are hand-made, factory-made or painted on

Here's the update from last month! During January I ended up taking a batch of commissions, so not much was done then. But with them out of the way I decided to pick at earlier bullet points on my overall to-do list. This involved some of the optional side areas, available once you obtain the drill/complete chapter 2.
First up is a scene kicking off a sidequest where you help this individual trapped underneath some junk. This is something meant to be completed over the course of the next couple of chapters, but you can trigger it outside the entrance to the mining site.
Next up is a teaser of the bandit's main camp. The places you visited during Chapter 1 were smaller scale compared to this... but sadly, PnJ can't get in until they have the propeller. If they try to walk in, this happens:

The last stretch of the month was dedicated to the Waterfall Caves; a condensed set of rooms with a lot going on in them. As the name implies it's based around rushing water.
Like the wind object, it pushes PnJ a certain direction. Most of the work was in coding the visuals and effects.
The Waterfalls is also where Dr. Thurston's sidequest truly starts. You met him in Chapter 1 and again at the start of Chapter 2, but here is where PnJ can help escort him towards those rare rocks he's been looking for.
His sidequest has multiple parts, so this just introduces you to the idea of moving him around.
It would end with a boss battle against this thing: the Craterpillar. He's also a guy I plan for you to come across throughout the side areas, as PnJ make their way deeper into Mount Glitteroam. During which he'd slowly evolve... but for now I figured out his initial pupa design and base sprite.

While these portions aren't part of the main storyline, my vision for Poppin & Jupa: Pocket Adventure was to reward exploration and yknow... reflect the feeling of being on an adventure. So having fleshed out side areas and characters helps with that feeling. One of my favorite parts from playing Symphony of the Night was filling out the map and discovering whole new places and enemy types, and I want to expand on that experience here. It'd help with the length and replay value, anyway.
Me and my partner are preparing to move out by the end of the month, so that'll likely cut into development time. But when I'm not doing that or working my day job, I'm planning to continue both fleshing out the Waterfall Caves, and picking back on Chapter 3's cutscenes and level refinement. It would be nice to at least finish the construction site portion of that chapter...

I am excited to see the T3 sprites of the Prisoners, I've been thinking about how they may look (Yuno w/ different hair? Mikoto w/o restraints? Etc) and wanted to ask you what you thought they may look like for T3

We get to finally see behind the act- I know you brought up Yuno with different hair and Mikoto without restraints but I saw this ask a day ago and immediately went we finally get to see! He's finally gonna introduce himself- WOOOOOO! Yeah let's meet the king of the masquerade baby!
We did exactly what he asked so I'm expecting a proper introduction.
"Lick that sin and oppose punishment, until you can meet the king of the masquerade."
We opposed punishment alright,
I want to meet him soooo bad. No one has any idea. I'm sooo excited to see him now- I hope he's let it all slip. I wanna hear,
"All those things I wanna do that I can’t say out loud."
I'm soooo happy about it this is why I wanted him innocent this is why i said nothing during his trial. I wanna see sooo bad. The fact that he teased it like that was soooo mean. He was like,
Kazui: You're almost there, you're almost at the finale don't you want to see what happens if you keep indulging my bullshit come on~ Just follow the king of the masquerade.

Me: Oh god he made it sound so tempting... My one weakness curiosity. Innocent just innocent him again. No, I don't care that she fell backwards which is more indicative of being pushed than actively choosing to commit suicide. I need to see the whole act okay. We can talk about everything else later. I don't care if he's pulling a pied piper- I don't give a fuck! Fuck it we ball. I'm an adult and I can make bad choices in the comfort of fiction if I want to. I'm gonna shut my mouth not say anything and do whatever I can to get this man innocent.

Well as they say curiosity killed the cat and I don't think satisfaction is gonna bring it back in this case.
But got damn if I'm not gonna be satisfied. All that to say i have no clue how Kazui will look but I am here for it.
Mikoto I expect to be unrestrained. Futa I'm kind of expecting him to not have an eyepatch any longer possibly for his eye to have healed. Since the person to have examined him was Shidou and they may use Futa's eye healing to hint at Shidou's dishonesty/malpractice. I thought Yuno may cut her hair. She may do it to have a style reminiscent to Mahiru's like a way of remembering her. That would be really cool.
I'm hoping and somewhat expecting Amane's hair to have grown out and possibly a uniform change if they decide to show their in real time ages this trial. I don't know which way it will go with her restraints though. I'm thinking there will be some visible injuries on a few prisoners much deeper bruising. Depending on how the deaths happened i.e if there was a struggle or not there could be no visible injuries.
I'm interested in what clothing changes we'll get. I wonder if Mu will still be wearing her jewelry. How Kazui's pants and shoes may change. If Futa will take the hoodie off or change his shoes and pants to fit the salvation thing he's been pushing. I'm wondering if Mikoto will change his hair a slicked back look would be nice.
I'm also interested in the trial three sprite art to see Amane standing up straight again to check her height. Plus I wonder if she'll have her hat back or a new one. Those are just things I'd like. I think to extent we all expect them to look broken up or weathered. Though I expect some of them will be looking as though nothing had happened if not all of them.
It would be interesting if they drew some inspiration from their fourth anniversary funeral art. When it comes to the designs. I'm sorry this isn't much of answer just food for thought. There's so many direction they can take it- It's impossible for me to settle on what would be the most interesting or what I'm expecting.
Since I am really just taking it in stride. I could make some guesses but it would be more so about their demeanors. I'm kind of expecting Mikoto to be a bit cocky similar to how Mu was trial two. Everyone innocent trial one was smiling trial two but Kotoko. However she wasn't really smiling to begin with.
I think it would be interesting to have a few more innocent prisoners not smiling. I could imagine Yuno, Futa, and Amane being the one's not smiling. In contrast I could imagine Kotoko and Mu smiling despite being guilty. Mikoto and Kazui are up in the air for me.
But that's all my thoughts on that. Sorry, again that this wasn't that in depth.

Homestuck: Beyond Canon Upd8 for July 23, 2024
Alright! We've got a new Upd8, and apparently it's a doozy! As usual, we'll start with the news post first!
Oh! There's a vod of the SAHcon panel. Might have to look that up.
James mentions a "big flash," and wants to give the team a break before either they start work on it or they drop it (wasn't sure here). I'm all for this. I don't want this team to burn out. Apparently there's progress on the plush, but James isn't telling us yet because it might not make it into the final version. Other than that, it's just this upd8. They're planning on more like it, so this won't be the only one of this style.
And what is this style?
It's a freakin' visual novel is what!
Looking at the options we have some basic VN selections, including options for skipping text. We have a History panel, which hopefully will allow us to go back to prior choices. We can also save and load. We don't have an option for full screen, so that's a little frustrating. But otherwise, away we go!

Oh wow. Vriska's trying to reconcile and every time she gets a prompt, she comes up with something else awful she did to him. I'd say we could be here a while, but I'm pretty sure she's going to lose patience soon.
"Hours later, but not many." Or we do that XD
Vriska doesn't get that the patterns that lead her here are the problem. She doesn't understand that being "an expert on this revenge thing," is part of the problem. The problem was that she was always trying to force Tavros to conform to some image of strength she had for him in her head, and used only the methods that she thought made her strong. That is, when she wasn't just losing her patience and doing something out of spite and anger.
Just as she thought she made things square with him before, she's not listening to him now. She's still never gotten that her failure to help Tavros wasn't Tavros's fault. It's always been her fault for not trying to understand who Tavros was and what he needed. By trying to help Tavros get revenge on her, she's just repeating the pattern again.
"Before I screw your life up," wow, I think she might have just had a genuine realization there! That's what she needs, though she still needs to understand why. She needs to understand why she did it, and why it caused Tavros so much suffering.
"Kill me." Oh wow. We've literally been exactly here before. How can she not realize that it didn't work then, and it's not going to work now!
"TAVROS: nO, i LOVE TO RUN AND, i DO NOT PLAN ON STOPPING, aNY TIME SOON,"
Ouch.
"Thief: Do the right thing."
Oh this is so not going to be the right thing.
Wow. She looks way too happy to have gotten Tavros to kill her. She is so not going to be happy when this almost certainly doesn't turn out to have worked.

Oh wow! When they said, Year 2, they weren't depicting a second point in the time frame. Vriska has been at this for over a year! "welcome to hell"
Whatever problems Dave and Nepeta respectively had, they just can't relate to the twisted mindset Vriska adopted to survive on Alternia.
"purrppets and then theres pawppet33rs" That one took me a while.
I think Davepeta just admitted that both Dave and Nepeta prefer to follow and let someone else be in control of things. No wonder Dave put up with so much of Jade's constant desires to form a stable polycule. I think I'll have some more to say about this later. Might even put it in a separate post.
Oh! Well that's that I guess! Might as well talk about this "panel" then.
So let's start with this. I do not believe in "leaders" and "followers". I think that's such a false dichotomy, that it barely deserves commentary. I think at best you can say that a person would be more likely to take charge, follow along, do there own thing, or disengage under sociologically normal circumstances. Already, that's four potential responses verse two, and these only apply under each person's "normal."
But even if we break it down to just "leaders" and "followers", Homestuck has already broken that dichotomy plenty of times. Take our beloved nub horned ball of of anger. Karkat presents at the beginning of Act 5 as a "leader." He was even somewhat good at it by Vriska's own admission. But Karkat was never happy as a "leader." He was doing it because he felt he had to. Being an exceptional bloodthirsty Troll warrior wasn't going to be good enough for him to avoid getting culled. He needed power, fear, and respect. He needed to be a "leader."
But once everything was over and he was given the chance to relax, he abandoned the role and was all the more happier for it. Pre Game Over, he wasn't particularly happy but he seemed less miserable than he did in game. And most of his anxiety revolved around not knowing where he stood with Dave and Terezi. Post Game Over he seems to have practically thrived. Letting Vriska, Rose, and Terezi handle all the planning and organization allowed him to finally enjoy life for once.
But now on Candy Earth C, he's a "leader" again. While he seems to be delegating a lot to Meenah, he's still the one everyone looks to. And while I can't say our beloved Knight of Blood is thriving, he's definitely much more comfortable as a "leader" now.
So all of that being true, has HSBC made any case for any character being a "leader" or "follower"?
But let's assume the premise and say Davepeta is correct. I think Nepeta can be said to be a "follower" in such a dichotomy. Even when it upset her, she still went along with Equius's wishes. But I would still stress she didn't exactly get a lot of screen time. We never got to know how Nepeta might have developed as a character over a full Homestuck run.
But what about Dave? Does Homestuck depict Dave as a "follower"? We definitely have plenty of examples of Dave going along with the plans and wishes of others. But I feel like we have far more examples of him taking initiative, doing his own thing, or even refusing to go along with a plan. Dave didn't want to play SBURB. Dave ignored Jade's advice to let the Crow hatch the egg. While he followed Terezi's plan, he eventually needed a break and basically broke with her after they finished the time loop. When Jade needed help, he acted on his own to get her situated in the game. He didn't like Rose's plan and refused to let her be the one to sacrifice herself when it seemed like that was the only option. He refuses to go along with Karkat's plans to try and setup quadrants with Terezi. In Game Over, he jumps into the fray to try and placate and then fend off Jack and PM. In Collide he takes the lead roll in the Strife at several points, including being the one to land the killing blow. Even Davepeta, as Vriska points out, was the one that secured victory against Lord English.
I think at most, what can be said is that normally Dave prefers to go with the flow. As he puts it, "maybe id rather just be like the dave of guy." This is one of those places where again, I have to ask if Homestuck has ever depicted a "leader/follower" dichotomy. Dave really seems happiest when he's just being Dave doing Dave things. Given a fully informed choice, Dave might have done everything he could have to avoid the SBURB session taking place. He stayed on the sidelines as things went to shit on Earth C, even as Karkat was looking to him for help. I just don't see Dave as a "follower."
That doesn't mean he has any angle to relate to Vriska. But for being an enlightened Sprite^2, I don't think Davepeta's take is a good one.

• Palida: Hmm, nothing here either... • Palida: Come on, Palida, you're a Faewish Sprite who can transport ten loads of goods in just one morning. This should be nothing for you! • Nikki: Did you lose something? Maybe we can help. • Palida: Oh, it's the human and the cat! I'm looking for my hat. • Momo: Then why are you looking at these photos? Is your hat in one of them? • Palida: *sigh* I'm not sure if Pamoda and Dakabo are still fighting, but they really scared me. I don't want to get hurt, so I'm just going to keep looking at these photos for now. • Momo: They're fighting? What happened?! • Palida: Well, it's technically not a fight, it's a dance-off. But the way those two dance... it's actually hard to tell the difference. • Momo: So strange... • Palida: I originally came to find Pamoda so we could go dance together, but instead, I found him swinging his arms wildly and shouting, "The Swing is the most dazzling dance!" • Palida: Next to him, Dakabo was twirling in circles, declaring, "The Twirl is the most elegant dance!" • Palida: *sigh* If only Pamoda was this passionate about his work. • Nikki: It sounds really interesting, though. Do you know who won? • Momo: I think you're missing the point, Nikki. So, what happened next? • Palida: Anyway, they were dancing in the middle of the street, and I was worried they'd bump into other sprites. So, I went over to tell them to stop, or at least move to the stage if they wanted to continue. • Palida: However, they were so into it that they didn't even hear me. At one point, they even tried to pull me in and get me to dance with them! • Palida: The whole scene was just a big mess! Pamoda was holding my hand and then Dakabo stepped on my foot. I was so dizzy, it felt like falling into a cart of super shiny makeup! • Momo: That sounds amazing! What happened next? • Palida: Well, I finally managed to escape, but then I realized my hat was missing. • Palida: I didn't want to get caught by them again, so I snapped a few pictures of the area where they were dancing, hoping to spot where my hat fell. • Palida: It was a confetti party hat I made especially for dancing. Without it, my outfit feels incomplete. • Palida: I'm sure it's somewhere there! I took photos of every corner of that area, but I still can't find it. • Nikki: Obviously, that hat means a lot to you. We'll help look for it too! • Palida: Really? Thank you so much! Here are the photos of where the dance-off took place. Can you help me find my confetti party hat?

Welcome to Hearts Entwined, a ClanGen/GeneMod comic with some extra rules thrown in. The most important of which is as follows:

Hoping to upload a page or two a week, but we'll see how it goes! I started this project to get better at drawing without agonizing over small details, and I hope to keep it that way!

I've been interested in Warrior Cats since I was 10, despite not getting to read any of the actual books until I was a teen. I watched hundreds of videos on youtube, always searching for more AMVs and "Warriors Animated Series."
I had been drawing long before Warriors, but seeing all the amazing things that other people made was what really got me to love drawing and making stories!
Now, years later, I'm 28 and getting back into art again. It seems perfect that that comes along with Warrior Cats!

Into, Across and Beyond! Scripting: Paying Taxes
(Based on this)
Sometime following Tails of Trials, OMT!Tails and OMT!Mina were just spending some time in the former's home, when Mr. Needlemouse came a-knocking.
Mr. Needlemouse: Tails!
OMT!Mina: Wha-?!
Mr. NM: My taxes are due today, and I have no idea how to do them!
OMT!Mina: Erm, okay?
Mr. NM: You gotta help me!
OMT!Tails: How do you know I'm not busy with my own?
Mr. NM: Cuz I know in da back of my thumb ya didn't do 'em last minute!
OMT!Tails: I mean, I had to wait 'til January 22nd before this year's 1099 forms all came in, but...
Mr. NM: Please, bub! Ya gotta help me! I'd be on my knees if MCStudio had the drawing skills for it!!!
OMT!Mina: *sigh* Alright.
OMT!Tails: I'm sure with my brains we can get this sorted out in no time!
They headed inside.
Mr. NM: (So boooring...)
He followed them in.
OMT!Tails: Okay, so, first order of business. How much did you make last year?
Mr. NM: Wait, I was supposed to be countin'?
OMT!Mina: Didn't you get a W2 from your employer?
Mr. NM: Employer...?
OMT!Mina: Well, what do you even do for a job?
Mr. NM: ... Does robbing Melody Hill Zone and framing Beeman for it 24/7 count as a job?
OMT!Tails: Like, stealing money slash rings regularly?
Mr. NM: Yep!
OMT!Mina: Who even makes it that easy to rob?
Mr. NM: Easy! I have a professional conman disguised as a lawyer freeing my bum every time!
OMT!Mina: Well, I doubt we'll be getting a 1099 from said lawyer.
OMT!Tails: It's okay, though! We can still fill out the 1040 using your own accounting.
Mr. NM: So I was supposed to be countin'!
OMT!Tails: You haven't been keeping track? NM...
Mr. NM: Okay, okay relax! I got 540 something in Emerald Hill... stole 250 from the local retirement home... stole 25 thousand worth of gold in Calteron... and stole some of Aureya's tech and sold 'em for 20 bucks!
OMT!Mina: I seriously doubt the IRS is gonna tolerate that.
Mr. NM: It was in three different dimensions! Whatever crimes I'm accountable for there, I'm not accountable for here!
OMT!Tails: Anyway! Let's talk business expenses. Do you even have those?
Mr. NM: Well... I did sell Beeman to the Dark Webz and passed him off as a rare species of bee. Does that count?
OMT!Mina: The dark web?!
OMT!Tails: Why did you go selling stuff on there?! And that's not even an expense!
Mr. NM: Well, where else can you sell someone? The other markets deemed it "illegal" for ridiculous reasons!
OMT!Tails: You can't put illegal purchases and selling on your federal tax return!
Mr. NM: Why not?
OMT!Mina: For Gaia's sake...
A few minutes later, everything was sorted out and the signature was put on the sheet.
Mr. NM: Phew! That took forever...
OMT!Tails: You're welcome.
Mr. NM: Now all I gotta do is put it in the mail, yeah?
OMT!Tails: Those were the federal taxes. The dimension taxes should take no more than 5 minutes to-.
Mr. NM: Actually, I think I'm good!
He started walking to the door.
OMT!Tails and OMT!Mina: Huh?!
Mr. NM: I've decided I'm not paying taxes!
OMT!Mina: Needle, you have to pay your taxes!
Mr. NM: Why? It's not like they do anything.
OMT!Tails: Star Light was literally built with the funding from taxpayer rings and coins.
Mr. NM: Yup. And they used the money to build loop-de-loops and floating platforms. Which, granted, cool as hell for me, but hell for the chumps that wasted their sweet time paying for 'em!
He prepared to leave through the front door.
OMT!Mina: I mean, he got a point there.
OMT!Tails: Still, if you don't pay your taxes, the IRS will come after you, Needlemouse!
Mr. NM: And I'm a living cartoon character! They can't catch me!
Cut to him now thrown in prison for planned tax evasion.

Mr. NM: Oh, damn... Guess they caught me. (looking to his right) So what you in for?
AoSTH Robotnik: I placed a bunch of golden rrrrrrrrings on the ground, and they told me to send the proper 1099 forms to people who picked them up. I didn't just to be diabolical, and, well... I've been serving my time here since before Across All Worlds.
Mr. NM: Call me Judge Doom, cuz you're getting the Dip!
AoSTH Robotnik: No, stop!
Mere seconds later, he was pulled from his jail cell after serving his time there.
IRS Member: Alright, you're free to return to your dimension.
AoSTH Robotnik: Anything to get away from that hedgehog, er... rabbit, erm... whatever that thing is! He's worse than Sonic, and that says a lot!
Dr. Beeman: You think that's bad? Try living in his world mindin' yer own business!
IRS Member: Well, the rabbit-hog's gonna be staying there for at least the next six months for planned tax evasion.
Mr. NM: Aw, really? I can get my lawyer to bust me outta-.
IRS Member: And you have charges of selling a half-human on the dark web, robbery, framing for said robbery, evading court through your properties, using a conman to get yourself out of jail, vandalism, disorderly conduct, parking illegally, amongst too many other offences to list here. And if you don't pay the legal fees out of the money you stole, which will all go back to the places you stole them from, you'll be here for at least 70 more years.
Mr. NM: Oh, COME ON!!!!! >:(
(Confirmation from @mcgamejolter himself: Mr. Needlemouse preferred the 70 extra years in jail over being a decent person, but of course, they made him send back the stolen goods whether he wanted to or not. Him trying to evade his taxes was just the last straw that got him tossed behind bars.)

Signalis Doom - 1
Starting a devlog now that i have a few lil things to show. I decided to get back into gzdoom, and i decided early on that since nobody had done Signalis Doom, i might as well. I've spent a few weeks on zscript and auxilery stuff, not doing as much mapping as i should. But i'm finally getting around to the Sig stuff.
There's a great deal to do here; i'm planning a full weapon replacement, enemy replacement to a degree, new textures, new maps, and new systems like companions and implimentaion of visual distortions. It's alot.

I've put togehter a todo board to help with this. Frankly, it's more fun to add things to the board than to do things on it, but oh well.
A critical issue that is going to come up again and again is that Signalis is a game made for a very specific camera angle, and the art is made to reflect that. Many of the textures are made to look best from that specific angle.
The lil black lines here ontop feed into the dark ceiling, as sig doesn't have any roofs. The bottom is meant to sell the connection between floor and wall. looks fine from an angle, looks odd in fps.
I can account for that, extending parts and removing dark lines and turning them into more conventional textures. that'll take alot of work for every one of them however, and woukld need to be done on a case by case basis as some have it more than others. I'm unsure if i should even bother, or jsut convert them as-is. We'll see, it's a stylistic choice. Using a texture lumpw ould let me mass import the wall models, so that's my first step, getting the walls and floors adn anything that follows a pattern in here.
people have modeled and textured much of the game in useable blender files, so i have a wealth of resouces to pull from. other people have done alot of the work here, i jsut need to assemble it.
Today, i'm planning to get as many of the textures in there as possible. Later, i'll need to start figuring out how i'm going to do the weapons/enemies, ie with custom sprtie art or sprite rendered models or just normal model md3s. we'll see.
it's alot of work but since i'm working with premade(stolen tbh) assets, it's going to go alot smoother than it would otherwise.
