Thought for the day FOCUS Almost the end of another year, so it’s time to assess the 12 months that are passed and start thinking of ways to improve ourselves and our lives in the year that comes. Many people make resolutions and they promise to realise them every New Year, many of which get binned after the first few weeks months. Be prepared for the fact that the upcoming year won’t be free of distractions and problems no matter how hard you work on your goals. Learn how to stay focused Staying focused is a skill that’s really simple to explain: you concentrate your mind on a single thing and don’t allow it to be disturbed by anything else. Now try to do that and you will understand how this simple definition becomes almost impossible to achieve in practice. However, it’s not impossible; it just requires a lot of practice, commitment, and dedication. Daily relaxation or meditation will help you free your mind of all distracting thoughts, and you will soon notice how you are getting better in controlling your habits and emotions and staying focused on your goals. Removing the barriers Are there any naysayers in your life? Someone who is discouraging you from pursuing your goals and dreams, perhaps? Someone who thinks that you are joking and says “It’s impossible!” when you share your grand plans for your future? Someone who sabotages you when you try to cultivate a new habit or quit a bad habit? Someone who is keeping you from achieving your highest potential? Whenever you get distracted by naysayers, it’s possible because you’ve taken your eyes off your goals. If that’s the case, all you need to do is to look back at them. Recall what exactly you want to achieve. Think about what exactly you want to get out of your life. Then, ask yourself if it’s worth it to put your goals on hold because of a couple of naysayers. Believe in your vision Once you believe, your mindset will be set to succeed hence it will actively be focused on finding opportunities absorbing setbacks and avoiding saboteurs . You will see challenges as opportunities to learn, attract different ways of moving towards your dream and notice more options on what you can do to move forward. You need only believe in yourself to get started. To keep the momentum use every bit of that belief to fuel yourself to take action after action towards your dreams and develop rituals to grow this belief further, remembering the only person you need to convince of your power is YOU. (YOUR ) vision of yourself and your life is your greatest asset. So make it a good one and use it wisely! Choosing to believe you can succeed will drive you on and on and on and inspire you when your feeling weak, running on fumes or the chips are down. Thus adapting to all stimulus in a positive way and cultivating habitual focus (The way an athlete trains for years because they believe they can win in the Olympics). It’s not rocket science it just takes Focus #EYESONTHEPRIZE #STAYFOCUSED #WEARENORTHERN #OKHANE #Intrepidseries2018

Thought for the day While a little sombre today’s thought on Death and the associated grief that comes with it are a part of life. What’s not it’s how we choose to live each day and celebrate the joy this life affords us. Friends and friendships , wonderful memories, the joy of love the bitterness of heartache. All for free if we are brave enough to make the commitment to ourselves each other and the community we are a part off. Time goes by quickly and all to often we can procrastinate or delay that apology or make the first move to tell someone how much they mean to you . It doesn’t have to be grandiose it just has to be real and from the heart. Nothing cuts through the mist of of uncertainty better that a sincere warm gesture of love . John 13:34-35New International Version (NIV) 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. There are many verses in scripture and modern literature on the importance of treating with gratitude the grace we are afforded each day and while it’s not easy to keep smiling with a heavy heart and memories can run deep . Time comes to show how truly blessed we are and to be thankful for the gift of life ,friendship and death. Have a blessed day x

Thought for the day Be Yourself Everyone is unique in their own way. Some people try to blend in with the majority, but they are still unique. Some people take their uniqueness, stand out as different, and use their unique persona to create and experience the life they want. We’ve all got our own values, emotions, strengths and weaknesses. We’ve all got our own gifts. We’ve all got our own challenges, life experiences, roads to travel and purpose. We’ve all got our own reason to be on this planet. We’ve all got our own unique soul. So why do we try so damn hard to be something else? When interviewed in the 1970s Bruce Lee left us this absolute gem and before you confuse the message with the person the media personified look at the message, don’t confuse it with messenger! When I look around I always learn something, and that is to be yourself always, express yourself, and have faith in yourself. Do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate him. Now that seems to be the prevalent thing happening today , like they always copy mannerism, but they never start from the root of his being and that is, how can I be me? Bruce Lee Very powerful message and one of the key principles that underlies the current state of confusion and unhappiness with people today . Everyone is that busy trying to be something or someone else they have forgotten the beautiful treasures they have inside . So instead of wasting energy on trying to be something we’re not, why don’t we embrace our uniqueness? Be proud of our appearance Embrace our qualities, strengths and emotions Trust that we’ve learnt from our life experiences and can pass on our knowledge to others. It’s simply a matter of embracing your greatness and coming home to you ! #WEARENORTHERN #WHYRUNWHENUCANFLY #BEYOURSELF #OKHANE #Areyouthelonewolf2018

Thought for the day The power of prayer The power of prayer is undeniable to those who pray regularly. True stories of prayer making differences in moments, and lives, or the world inspire each of us to examine and strengthen our faith life regularly. Reach deep inside to access the power of praying to change our lives and change our hearts. At this point many minds will snap shut and that’s okay I’m not here to convince anyone of anything so let’s keep the comments positive please people. Take for instance the Apostle Paul writes, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” If we read Philippians 4:13 in isolation, apart from its context, it’s possible to see why so many take it as a declaration of personal empowerment. It is regularly treated like a spiritual boost of self-confidence that can be applied to any ambition or aspiration in life. But this verse also has a very specific, defined meaning that is very important for us to remember as believers It is a verse is about contentment. It’s not about your dreams coming true or your goals being met. Rather it’s about being joyful, satisfied, and steadfast even when life is hard and your circumstances seem impossible. Keeping the faith Now what ever path you choose to follow be it born again,Anglican Roman Catholic , Sufi , or Pagan or even agnostic knowing that A.Your not God B.Keeping an open mind And C not getting caught up in all the religious political debates can be a great help when and if you decide to take a leap of faith. Below is an amazing picture of Gratitude in action of our greatest British Athlete Mo Farah Farah who is a devoted Muslim, and although he only speaks about it rarely, his mega-star status during the 2012 London Olympics afforded him more opportunities than usual. The runner said he tries to pray five times a day, and that his faith plays an essential role in his success as an athlete and his religion keeps him relaxed and focused: When interviewed in regard his faith he gave this response. You’ve got to believe in God. Everything happens for a reason, so you shouldn’t get wound up. . . . It also says in the Qur’an that you must work hard in whatever you do, so I work hard in training and that’s got a lot to do with being successful. #WEARENORTHERN #KEEPTHEFAITH #WHYRUNWHENYOUCANFLY

Thought for today Sometimes we find ourselves faced with challenges, obstacles opportunities and the closer it comes to facing them anxieties rise our minds wander and disaster lurks on every corner. Our mind plays tricks and every little happening is a sign why we shouldn’t step up . It’s too hot or cold , I’m not ready ; I’ve overtrained the list is endless . Possibly what’s going on is a lot of over thinking, projecting into the void trying grasp and control the uncertainty. Has any of the thousand movies of how things will turn out according to your thinking actually mirrored what actually then came to pass. If so then this possible more chance than foresight or self fulfilling prophecy ( I think I’ll fail hence failure occurs) Where do all these insecurities emanate and important how do we rise above them and keep Fear at Bay. False Evidence Appearing Real Is how I’ve heard fear referenced to in the past and while our brains 🧠 defence mechanisms are there for our survival. Often as we grow up life conditions us to be more fearful anxious less confident or the opposite so with the right kind of mindset fear can be managed. Another definition of fear is Fear is a feeling induced by perceived danger or threat that occurs in certain types of organisms, which causes a change in metabolic and organ functions and ultimately a change in behavior, such as fleeing, hiding, or freezing from perceived traumatic events. So as the above shows the effects of fear become physical and if left unchecked become volatile causing all manner of illnesses and physical conditions. Managing fear According to a report from the mental health foundation you should face your fear if you can. If you always avoid situations that scare you, you might stop doing things you want or need to do. You won't be able to test out whether the situation is always as bad as you expect, so you miss the chance to work out how to manage your fears and reduce your anxiety. Below is a list with some great ways to start overcome and manage those fears. Whatever it is that scares you, there are ways to help you cope with your day-to-day fears and anxieties. Firstly It's impossible to think clearly when you're flooded with fear or anxiety. The first thing to do is take time out so you can physically calm down. Distract yourself by any means necessary, counting backward from 50 is a great way to focus the mind. Breathe through panic ( deep breaths in for 3 sec hold for 1 out 2 and continue to count If you start to get a faster heartbeat or sweating palms, the best thing is not to fight it. Stay where you are and simply feel the panic without trying to distract yourself. Place the palm of your hand on your stomach and breathe slowly and deeply. The goal is to help the mind get used to coping with panic, which takes the fear of fear away. Avoiding fears only makes them scarier. Whatever your fear, if you face it, it should start to fade. If you panic one day getting into a lift, for example, it's best to get back into a lift For example, if you're scared of getting trapped in a lift and suffocating, ask yourself if you have ever heard of this happening to someone. Ask yourself what you would say to a friend who had a similar fear.Sharing fears takes away a lot of their scariness. If you can't talk to a partner, friend or family member, call a helpline such as the Samaritans (116 123, open 24 hours a day). If your fears aren't going away, you can ask your GP for help. GPs can refer people for counselling, psychotherapy or help through an online mental health service, such as FearFighter. Lots of people turn to alcohol or drugs to self-treat anxiety, but this will only make matters worse. Simple, everyday things like a good night's sleep, a wholesome meal and a walk are often the best cures for anxiety. To end while researching for this post I came across this amazing story that is a great teaching aid to show that the fears which we feed grow but if we starve them they diminish Faith and hope are also in the midst of our fears and everything you ever wanted on the other side . The Fight of Two Wolves Within You By Dean Yeong on March 21, 2016 An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life: “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. ”It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Enjoyment of a healthy diet can also be one of the great cultural pleasures of life so that’s why I’m sharing this post with you , Chilli 🌶 con carne Ingredients. 500g lean minced beef (10% or less fat) mixed beans 2 medium onions, chopped. 3 garlic cloves, peeled and finely chopped. 1–2 tsp hot chilli powder. 2 tsp ground cumin. 2 tsp ground coriander. 2 tbsp plain flour. Grab yourself a couple of crisp breads to avoid you reaching for the dreaded bread add a little rice ; no need to get medieval and crack out the brown . Thought for the day ! The challenges we'll face in life are inevitable and there are habits you can develop that will allow you to overcome adversity when it shows up! Firstly’ Keep it simple to much knowledge in the wrong hands can make small issues into your worst nightmare. Here are 4 suggestions; strategies to unlock, "Your Inner Will: and help you find personal strength in critical times." Suggestion A Do not turn your current values beliefs and actions into dogma. We may feel captive to our own [automatic behaviors], obligations, and fears. Practice keeping yourself free to embrace new ideas as this is essential to remaining happy and able to adapt to change. Suggestion B Strive to find peace within yourself. Bottled up emotions often threaten to overwhelm and devastate us but with courage and self love we can find the center of our being," Practice quieting the chaos of your mind through meditation. It used today to treat common ailments such as depression and many other physical illnesses. Many top athletes also include regular meditation to there training plans (Mental focus is a key tool of the greats) . The ancient Roman "philosopher king" Marcus Aurelius, wrote often that he would retreat into himself the same way people took breaks in the mountains or the beach and emerge refreshed with a clearer perspective! Suggestion C Be definite in your actions. When we put just enough effort to make it to the end of each day, life becomes draining , and it makes us bitter and vulnerable. Instead of wasting away your energies acting like a machine on auto, accomplish things with passion, energy and focus. This way of approaching Life will keep you sharp and confident. Suggestion D Embrace the struggle For example A butterfly is such a magnificent creature for it beholds a message of hope and a reminder that each struggle has a lovely ending. A living reminder that one must be ready to undergo tremendous changes to be able to achieve the best version of themselves. To end I’ll get out the big guns and refer to a little story I was introduced to unfortunately I can’t take the credit for it but it sums today’s thought beautifully. A man spent hours watching a butterfly struggling to emerge from its cocoon. It managed to make a small hole, but its body was too large to get through it. After a long struggle, it appeared to be exhausted and remained absolutely still. The man decided to help the butterfly and, with a pair of scissors, he cut open the cocoon, thus releasing the butterfly. However, the butterfly’s body was very small and wrinkled and its wings were all crumpled. The man continued to watch, hoping that, at any moment, the butterfly would open its wings and fly away. Nothing happened; in fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its brief life dragging around its shrunken body and shrivelled wings, incapable of flight. What the man – out of kindness and his eagerness to help – had failed to understand was that the tight cocoon and the efforts that the butterfly had to make in order to squeeze out of that tiny hole were Nature’s way of training the butterfly and of strengthening its wings. Sometimes, a little extra effort is precisely what prepares us for the next obstacle to be faced. Anyone who refuses to make that effort, or gets the wrong sort of help, is left unprepared to fight the next battle and never manages to fly off to their destiny. #WEARENORTHERN #WHYRUNWHENYOUCANFLY

Thought for the day! The importance of setting big goals, Keeping momentum is a key skill to develop to avoid stagnation.
In the words of one of the old Legends Every day you can decide: 1% up. Or 1% down. You never notice it from day to day because it’s such a small difference. Pick one area of your life you love. And improve it 1%.
It’s the most important thing you will do today. If you always put limits on what you can do, physical or anything else, it’ll spread over into the rest of your life. It’ll spread into your work, into your morality, into your entire being. There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you.
Bruce Lee A man must constantly exceed his level.” “It is not primarily physical selves that limit us but rather our mindset about our physical limits.” I call it the the lazy ape mentality if you believe in evolution. Some call it the 40 percent rule; E.g. If you think you can run run 25 mile you can run sixty percent more which is closer to 70 mile. So when the mind is telling you you’re done, you’re really only 40 percent done. Without goals or focus the world can soon starts to lose shape and one day melts into the other and this can lead to a plethora of Mental health problems or reactivation of past conditions. Keep moving forward . Challenge the accepted views of ourselves, of others, and of presumed limits regarding our talents, our health, and our happiness that were subconsciously transferred to us at an earlier time in our lives, the more we open up to the realization that these too can change the sooner we are open to a new world of possibilities! And all we need do to begin the process is to be mindful.” #WEARENORTHERN
