Internet Archive and 'The Wayback Machine' are Experiencing an Existential, Legal Threat.

Below is a link to a petition whose goal it is to save one of the most effective tools against digital censorship available to the public.

"At a time when digital information is being deleted, rewritten, and erased, preservation is more important than ever."

Signing this petition is FREE and takes less than 5 minutes.

Recently, user @we-are-astronomer was able to utilize Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to locate and preserve government articles DELETED from the NASA website by Trump Administration censors. For more information, their post can be found underneath the break.

If resources such as these are destroyed, we risk losing every digital article and file deleted under the Trump Administration's censorship. Without a method for restoring erased information, censorship proceeds unhindered. No body, no crime.

Collective action gets results. Do your part to protect public peace of mind.

The internet age is like the modern library of Alexandria, except for the library is already on fire, and people are constantly moving the knowledge around to avoid the fires, but each time, some of the content gets left behind.

No matter how hard we try to archive content, especially media, we are slowly losing the battle against the fires due to lack of knowledge that stuff is even burning.

Fr tho there's something so fucking special about historical diaries & accounts of the inner feelings of someone who was alive 140+ years ago, and also a POC in the midst of a Colonial Shitfire™️ (i love where my work takes me):

Man who was looked at as hard/cold, was a Hot Topic™️ in the last decade bc of governing a colonial society while black & having a native wife/kids: writes the exact minute & day when his many children passed during the hard fort years of British Columbia (1800s). It has got me in the fucking feels IT IS SO SAD I CANNOT DESCRIBE IT, YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO READ THE SCRIPT OF HIS HANDWRITING TO FEEL IT:

"Little boy": Not baptized, born 5th November, 1833. Died same day. It was Saturday.

"Ellen": died 24th November, 1834 at a few minutes past 8 in the morning. Friday.

Then the years ago by, the kids who make it grow up: he's now writing letters to his youngest, the golden child, saying how he still puts an apple on her nightstand to pretend she's home while overseas, how he walks under the apple tree in their front yard (the tree i ended up studying and smoking weed under lmao) and aches at her absence- how "mama cries for you to just come home" ITS ALL TOO MUCH😭

Fr FUCK all those people who petitioned for his statue to be removed & for this family history to be disregarded- our island was governed by a black man, with a Cree wife, in the fucking 1800s in a society full of British people who CONSTANTLY talked shit and they were like "yeah, not relevant"????????? i will forever be pissed

If you found us via Tumblr, chances are you know what fanfiction is. For the DLA, fanfiction offers an opportunity to approach canonical, well-known texts from a new perspective and to make them approachable in turn. Here, a fan retells Hesse’s Demian, there, the friendship between Friedrich Schiller and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is, in fact, a love story. Fanfiction offers an ideal venue for both the study of acts of reading as well as of acts of writing and even concepts of authorship. It is not only creative, derivative, collaborative, and interactive, but also subversive: both love letter to and resistance against the original.

Since 2024, the Literature on the Web project includes efforts to archive fanfiction – to preserve it and make it visible and accessible for research or casual reading. We are specifically interested in archiving fanfiction written on works of literature or prominent persons included in the DLA’s regular archive collections, as well as fic written on topoi that play(ed) a role in German literary history. Your fic doesn’t have to be in German to be interesting to us!

I’m at this weird, extremist intersection regarding media preservation honestly.

It’s one that people very well may dislike me for having.

See, I believe that anything ad everything ever uploaded to the internet should be archived. From the shittiest of homestuck slash fics to the modern masterworks in excess of a million words. The most gruesome of images and the cutest of kitens. The most vile, hatefilled monologues and the most loving statements.

Anything and everything, preserved and archived and catalogued and translated every which way.

All our lows, all our highs, all our middlings too. Everything should remain, so we can look back and see our successes and failures.

We have, for once, something that can keep up with and accurately track the societal, cultural, religious and technological development of our species.

And we have done nothing with it. We toss countless volumes of information across our world as pictures and words, and all of it is just detritus. Nothing to be preserved. Nothing to be remembered.

I believe all of it is. I believe we should keep it all, to map humanity as a species.

The single pixel image you sent your groupchat, the darkest revenge fantasy ever posted to Ao3, the grossest of abuses documented by enactors and saviours and survivors, the most vile and the most beautiful things we have done, the greatest of technological breakthroughs.

All of it is equally worthy of preservation. All of it is unfathomably important one way or another.

And all of it, as things are, will be lost.

We have already lost so much of our history.

Why can’t we preserve it now we have the chance?

So this doodle was supposed to be a joke. :/a Then it turned into a not-joke. GG brain. ANYWAY, since Loki is said to/use(s) a capoeira type fighting style, I wanted to draw him as Christie from Tekken. Then I just…well, never finished drawing in all of Christie’s outfit.
