A Bad Webexample

Every enterprise company has their approved tools that have been licensed for use by all employees. At my company, Webex is one of those tools. I’m on it for multiple hours a day, even when I’m not working from home. It’s fine. It’s integrated with Outlook, so I can add it to a meeting I’m scheduling with one click. It allows our entire organization to join a call at one time, share screens, and display the faces of those talking. It’s a workhorse, and it gets the job done. But it’s far from perfect.

Since I am working from home, I’ll occasionally take a call on my iPad. I was on a call yesterday with a large group of people, and someone was presenting slides. I wanted to see the questions people were posting in the chat. One might expect it to display in a panel on the right side of the screen. After all, that’s what it does in the desktop app. But no, it opened in a modal dialog in the middle of the screen, right overtop of the slide that was being presented. That’s just dumb.
