Aside from the joke, it is very interesting to see the evolution of manga translation over the years. In French edition in the 2000s, some works would translate words like "ramen" to "noodle soup". That or an extensive 3-pages lexicon at the end to explain the cultural background of a bento

While this may seem funny nowadays, it's also thanks to this extra work that native terms were popularised to the point that most people will now understand them
