For far too long I have sat in the dark. Ashamed, alone, afraid, guilt-ridden, hating and disgusted with the reflection in my mirror. No love, no support, no guidance, with only my cubs to love me and keep me going. It took strangers to show me I was worthy. I WILL share my story over and over until the day I leave this world. I may not change the world in my lifetime, BUT I WILL IMPACT IT! I will have touched at least one life. Made someone feel less alone, less afraid, less ashamed, and made them feel loved. If I can do that, my life will have had some meaning and not been for nothing. It will have been worth every moment of heartache, pain, suffering, the years of shame, hatred, disgust, and torment will not have been in vain. Maybe then, I won't be forgotten! Maybe then you will FINALLY see, she really was worth something. Why did I fail her. She wasn't bad, just in pain, and I made it worse by not loving and believing in her. Its too late! I believe this to be the beginning of a victory for the survivors of sexual violence! So long we have stood in the shadows, feeling alone, forgotten, condemned for speaking out and NEVER being listened to, believed! Being told to "Get over it", Ïts in the past, move on", "You are just using this as an excuse to get high", "You led him on", and one I have heard A LOT, "What did you do to lead him on", "You probably deserved it"!
