Whats everyones specializations, and what were the thoughts behind them (or was it vibes)? I know sig is a bioengineering facility, and... what was it, OSO that was a medical facility?

You’ve swapped it! Sig is the medical facility, and OSO is the bioengineering facility. They really aren’t all that different but Sig focuses more on yknow, medicine and OSO is moreso strictly for creating the sorta “meat in boxes” type purposed organisms that have a function that aids their creators in some way for industry/entertainment/etc. She sees organic life as below her, and has no problem with creating life that has no other use than as a tool.

Echos of Indigo is a nature reserve! His structure harbours some of the last unpurposed and “natural” organisms left, since he was built in a very lush and diverse environment near-ish to the coast, in what is basically a wetland. They study and preserve genome sequences and act as a sanctuary for the creatures they’re protecting. OSO looks down on them for this, like, who gives a fuck about keeping unspecialized organisms? They’re a waste. Hence the bullying LOL.

Moon, Sliver, and Wind are kinda just generalized iterators, since Moon and Sliver are group seniors and need to have a well rounded set of skills. Wind kiiiinda acts as a communication hub, but it’s mostly just cuz he’s in a central location between 037 and 1650. He doesn’t really have to focus on it though, it’s more just like, an extra bit of his facility.

I’m sure we all know PIn’s specialization by now, my little tourist attraction/glorified alexa/cultural hub <3 Their structure is literally modified in a way that actually hinders their processing power in order to have the exposed chamber, which really takes a hit to their energy and memory.

Pebbles is mainly meant as a support for Moon, but he also ended up being a sort of “library” for their creators. He keeps records of art, history, songs, books, pretty much anything his citizens want to be remembered. He’s able to do this thanks to his advanced processing capabilities, and does enjoy this part of his work, like cmon he’s autistic of course he’s gonna love sorting through millions of poems and organizing them by dynasty, topic, author, and cycle of creation. PIn helps him get a lot more records too ^_^

Suns is in a similar boat. They are pretty generalized, being older and therefore needing to be more well-rounded, but over time their city ended up becoming very focused on education, politics, and philosophy. He’s basically the harvard or yale of the area. This is kinda why Pebbles gravitated towards xem in the first place, they’re very book-smart. Then again, knowledge =/= wisdom, which I’m sure is pretty obvious based on his decisions LMAO. He’s also active in his city’s politics, though not to the degree Wind is.

Unparalleled Innocence is a shipping facility, believe it or not. She’s built on the coast and has a port on her facility grounds. Despite her laid back attitude, she does enjoy her work, and they are home to a pretty large population of blue collar workers, who are generally less…let’s say pretentious, than other colonies. They’re diligent in their work but still enjoy their time with their citizens and fellow iterators.

Alienated by Light’s citizens are incredibly religious, their city is basically just a huge monastery. They strictly adhere to religious doctrine and participate in traditional rituals, ceremonies, and holidays. They’re very devoted to their citizens and that’s mainly why they think Sig and Pebbles are the scariest mfs alive for betraying their citizens! The ones they were created to protect and care for!

The way I picked them was mostly based on vibes, and the way it would affect their chemistry with one another. OSO being the most insecure mf alive because she doesn’t wanna be conflated with Sig was because I made her a bioengineering facility. EOI was looked down on by OSO so I made them into something she wouldn’t respect. Pebbles’ specialization was obviously lifted from the interests he has ingame. PIn was inspired by the “some got the privilege of glass boxes” line, and because of how literally close they were to their citizens, they became a part of their city’s culture, and therefore it was natural for them to befriend Pebbles. So some were based on vibes between the characters and others were based on vibes that ended up affecting the relationships between them.

GOD DAMN THIS GOT FUCKING LONG. I hope my followers appreciate my descent into madness over rain world answering this ask instead of hiding away on my emo blog being unhinged about band members <3

Headcanon catch up — CAPTAIN WINTERS

@thelocalbozo has to deal with me being down bad for winters on stream , and now he has to deal with me being down bad for him elsewhere !! yipee !!!

all headcanons that were done for the fbi units will be written up here [with a few exceptions] . i’ll be doing chains and bain catch-ups soon !

First meeting

Rather than being recruited as a medic, you managed to snag a spot as one of Captain Winters’s shield assistants

The two of you first met upon your arrival to the PD, having met up with him in his office

Things went relatively smoothly. He told you the ropes, gave you a warning or two, then dismissed you. Nothing special.

At least not to you.

The second you left his office, mf nearly doubled over and had a HEART ATTACK over how precious you were

Like- how??? Why are you so fucking scrunkly????

He had no clue how to handle the feeling, but he managed to conceal this fact from others

The fact wouldn’t be hidden for long though…

How you’re treated

Like the way he does with the rest of shield-failings, he treats you rather harshly, both in and out of battle

It was understandable why he was so harsh when on the field. After all, it was straight death that all of you were jumping into

Outside of battle is what confused you most. Like, none of you were in any particular danger so why be so cruel?

Some of the rumors that commonly circulated around the PD had crossed you. Some of them suggested that he’s had a rough life, others suggested that he’s just an asshole

Regardless, you didn’t want to prod him about it. As curious as you were, he’d probably kick your ass if you tried

So you just minded your business, and he somewhat minded his own

They fall in love with you

Winters has been in love before, so he’s not new to the sensation. However, he had never felt like this to such a high degree before

Every time you passed by him, he struggled to not just lock up and start sputtering nonsense, both in and out of combat. So what did he do to prevent embarrassment?

He treated you worse of course

He was a lot more protective about you on the field, him often yelling at you and even physically tugging you towards him as a means of making sure you’d be okay

Winters would also deny anything regarding his lovey dovey behavior. If you point out that he’s blushing your shaking, he’ll tell you that you’re just being crazy and might even threaten you with the risk of losing your job

However, all of these harsh statements are empty. He could never do something like that to you

But at some point, it starts to take a toll on you…

You love to sing

Winters was passing through the halls and making sure that nobody was causing a ruckus when he heard your singing around the corner

Mf was ready to tell you to shut up and get back to work, but he stopped when he registered that it was you singing

Once he managed to process that, he nearly melted

He listened closely and realized how lovely you sounded, especially while singing

It wasn’t long before you had taken notice of his stillness, in which he was quick to deny as he told you to shut it and do something productive

He wouldn’t try to get you to quiet yourself in case he happened to be around while you were singing again. He wants to encourage you singing but he also has a bit of an image he wants to keep up

Confessions

Winters didn’t want the confession to be obvious, especially since he knew that the other units would get on his nerves about it.

So he just calls you to his office to have a little ‘chat’

Due to his harsh behavior prior to the confession, you end up nearly crying as you accuse him of lying to you

Cue the absolute fuckinf PANIC

He’s quick to try and console you, attempting to reassure you that he just wanted to protect you

It was only when he took you by the hands and looked you in the eye, his voice stern as he once more tried to get his message across

“Listen. I know I seem harsh, but all I want to do is protect you. I’m worried that you might get hurt while we’re on the field, and I just want to make sure that you’re okay. I love you too much to lose you. Do you understand?”

Once you give him a small nod, he gets out of his seat to offer you a hug. If you don’t let him, he respects that boundary and just gives you a small smile

Later on, you go back to his office, having calmed down as you tell him that you reciprocated his feelings

Winters wasn’t too giddy about it, but he was definitely happy to hear that you felt the same way

First kiss

So Winters got really fuckin hurt once during battle

You weren’t there at the time, but when you saw him come back into his office you were just like “oh god oh fuck what happened”

He refused to go to the medical ward, so instead you grabbed some supplies [courtesy of the medics] and patched him up while he was doing paperwork in his office

You let Winters rant on to you abt what happened while you patched him up

Just as you finished, you gave him a small peck on the lips as you told him that it would be okay

He realized what you did and gave you a smirk bc like- damn you wastin your first kiss w/ me a situation like this

He wasted no time pulling you in for another kiss lol

You reject them

Okay so same thing as the confession right?

The only difference is that you don’t go up to him and tell him anything

You kinda just leave him hanging

He panics initially, unsure of whether or not to interact with you aside from work things bc he didn’t want to provoke or pry

But then he ends up putting two and two together and realized that you probably don’t love him back

He softens up a little with the battlefield treatment, still protective, but he does his best not to be too harsh

Winters tries his best to treat it like nothing happened, but when he gets home he’s poundin all the fuckin whiskey

Worst hangovers ever while at work, and the other units take notice but don’t do anything bc they don’t want their ass kicked by a drunken or hungover Winters of all things

So to summarize: he just develops an alcohol addiction lol

COLLAGE AU YEET:

Felix- literature major. People call him lame for it but he loves to slander Edgar Alan Poe and make fun of old literature. Thinks of Bazarov as his favorite asshole. Actually gained him a skill to analyze ppl bc he analyzed too many characters from literature. Now sits at cafes, romantisizes his life and judges ppl with Elowen.

Anisa- criminology OR law major. She used to want to become a cop. But eh, she decided her passion was to look into murder cases. So the best she could do would be to choose one of those degrees. No one knew why she learned the specific blood patterns to look for in a crime scene, nor why she listened to court murder cases podcasts but what she leaned for fun became her lectures. Also watched the Jonny Depp/ Amber Herd case with popcorn and laughed her ass off.

Sage - idk had an engineering class but kinda not liked it and had to provide for his sister first so dropped out. They were in a hard situation but maybe with the help of his friends can pick up a major that's less stressful. Thanks Lucan and Balsam a world bc they helped him out with Tulsi, also Anisa and Felix for helping him out financially.

Elowen- something in me says a social science. Psychology, possibly. Big brain lady. She decided that if she cannot get therapy she will major in it instead. She is a smart woman who likes to observe ppls behaviors tho. So probably sits down and judges ppl with Felix. Nothing serious just two emos bonding

Rime- Medical major. I believe he'd get into pharmacy. Bc he whips up some good potions and also he is good with medicine!! Pro at chemistry, he actually learned shit for fun. He has some rare substances in his home lab...but shhh. Honestly I think he actually had knowledge about medicine uses before, just so he could keep his buddies alive.

Tulsi- mechanical engineering!! She likes it :)) She makes robots for Lucan to code and give the stupidest names to. This is their bonding time. Also has a brotherly relationship with him, they both take care of Sage together.

Lucan- seems like a smart guy who will purposefully code a robot for no purpose and only for shits and giggles. Un-corrupt self probably would like the idea of Baymax. Is besites with Sage and Tulsi, actually tutored tulsi for a while when Sage had to work and find a way to earn money.

Saaros- International relationships and politics. Has already done their internships. Additionally has taken chemistry courses (in story they also know alchemy so) They are a beast. Also has Azimuth who majors in astronomy. They actually lead on a vary formal yet friendly relationship.

Florian- biology professor everyone is willing to kill for. Has a plant named Bob in his office, gifted by his students.

Ayanna- literally an engineer. She just vibes by herself and does her own projects.

Escell- that one mf physics teacher everyone hates. Tired all the time. Fuck you.

Yeah sure!

I think Will is that mf who would have decent grades through high school, like 3.5-3.7 type stuff, but he would just wait until senior year and just destroy himself for a 4.0 or higher

I also think he would graduate at least a year early

He would probably be involved in some sort of out of school program, either relating to medicine or sports and he would get a scholarship

Definitely gets into some sort of Ivy League on scholarships alone, complains about it the whole time because he doesn't need the money and ends up forfeiting the scholarship

His mom is a famous musician, so he does his basics at a local community college in New York while he works with the next gen of demigods to be working in the infirmary

And then his mom pays his way through school (she can't afford all those years at an Ivy League medical school but she can pay so he graduates from there and stuff)

I don't know exactly what his career would end up being, I like general surgeon for Will, I also think he might find pediatrics fun, there's also a good chance he might end up being one of the top doctors globally and working for some sort of big organization like WHO or whatever... Maybe there's a demigod version of it or something

As for Nico I think he would go to college, he would probably get a full ride to some advanced school too but unlike Will he just bullshitted everything but his test scores

I could see him going into law, and he's there and he's learning from a professor and the professor says something that's either wrong or an over simplification

It starts a disagreement, Nico walks out of the class with an "I'll show you" attitude

Nico ends up dropping out, forfeiting his scholarships and instead writes a book that's considered so well done it becomes a national requirement in the field and the professor he got into the debate with has to spend the rest of their career using Nico's book (which has a passive aggressive "this wouldn't have been possible without you" in the cover dedicated to the professor)

After that point Nico would just bounce around between majors a whole bunch, trying a little bit of everything because at 18 he would finally get access to his inheritance

Eventually he ends up doing some freelance art stuff online (wacky Twitter art tbh), but he goes to school for a nursing degree and ends up working in a hospice center and really enjoys that

Outside of school I do think they would move in together and such

According to them it's just a small basic apartment, and that's technically true but between Will's family and Nico's newly accessible inheritance money isn't a concern and as long as they lived middle class they'd probably be set for life

A one-two bedroom apartment isn't crazy, until you realize they're college students and the area of town they live in... Percy and Annabeth's little studio apartment seems more realistic in this situation

They have Mrs. O'Leary (because who knows what happened to her but asking me I'm just saying she was staying at CJ or something and Nico picked her up after HoO and she lived in his cabin), also who knows what happened to small Bob but they have him too

Will and Nico are definitely either married during or before college, and so they're those college kids where everyone is like "wait you're married?"

Being a sophomore in college is odd enough, try being a sophomore in college and married... Classmates are confused and have no clue who's married to who

Eventually they figure it out and they're all just "??"

But Nico and Will start hanging out together at school and things click together

They definitely expand their friend groups, definitely Nico, he grows up and comes out of his shell more again

Nico struggles to make close friends, but he definitely has a lot more casual friends and acquaintances

Will often surprises people because he pretty much only hangs out with Cecil and Lou Ellen still (I mean yeah he picks up a few college friends, but Cecil, Lou Ellen and him go way back and nobody can beat that) so Will is the type to have few friends but tons of acquaintances

Whumptober 2021 Day 13: That’s gonna leave a mark

Cypher is no field medic, but he knows what to do. The question is, does Phoenix?

~400 words. Cauterization, injuring, descriptions of injury, blood.

See, now, if Phoenix wanted to go into medicine, he would’ve as a kid. Alas, he was always squeamish around blood and open wounds. He kept his distance from first aid stations, and when it was him with the wound, he would just start his own healing process and close his eyes.

Cypher was a tough mf, Phoenix was sure, but even this must’ve been a little too much, surely?

His breathing was short, irregular, and he didn’t need a medical degree to know that that was not a good sign. One rough mission resulted in a bad stab wound on Cypher’s leg, and the blood pouring out was enough to make Phoenix nauseous. Even as Cypher had him light up his hands as a source of light in this dark safe house, he wanted to puke. Blood was pulsing out, the metallic smell drifting through his nostrils as the muscle around the wound pulsed and twitched as Cypher tried to sit himself up.

“Do you know how to make a tourniquet?” Cypher demanded, pushing bandage after bandage over the wound now that he could see properly.

“No.”

“Good, I don’t want to lose my leg anyways.”

What was Phoenix even going to say to that? It sounded lighthearted, but in a situation as bad as this…

“Get your fire ready.”

“Wha—?”

Cypher grabbed onto Phoenix’s wrist with a surprising amount of force and pulled his hand over the wound while simultaneously removing all the bandages. And even while Cypher gritted his teeth to silence the scream, he kept a tight grip on Phoenix as the fire burned at his flesh.

Phoenix dispelled the fire, and immediately, Cypher dug his blunted nails in.

“Bring the fire back… hotter. I’m not done.”

“You sure?” Cypher nodded. “This is gonna suck.”

He squeezed his eyes shut even when he could hear the sizzling of flesh, smell the cooked muscle and blood, and feel the leg spasm and tense under his fingertips. Seconds felt like it stretched into minutes before Cypher finally moved his hand aside and gasped in relief.

With a wary glance, Phoenix looked at his hand, splattered and covered in what he could only assume was burnt flesh.

At least Cypher didn’t question the retching from the next room over. Phoenix wouldn’t be able to look him in the eye for another few days.

“Atomic Habits”... that’s the book i need to read next. a patient lent me a book called “Flowers for Algernon”. it’s not the usual thing i read but i figure i could step away from self-improvement/scientific books. so far, it is interesting as it takes on a first person perspective of Charlie who is a mentally challenged adult with a very low IQ but a high motivation to become smart. he becomes the subject of an experimental operation that increased the IQ of Algernon, a mouse that can solve mazes. Charlie writes progress reports and it is very interesting to notice the gradual change in his writing.

i’ve been meaning to write about a patient that i finally had the chance to work with. she’s an older Filipina immigrant that came to the US to create a better life for her three children. she was a chemical engineer in the Philippines during a time when sexism was very alive in the sciences. her degree is not recognized here so she took classes to teach high school chemistry and she found that extremely rewarding. i told her my favorite subject was chemistry and she talked about hers being physics. i said ah, yes... physics is the language of the natural world. she agreed that a lot of the sciences depend on physics... even chemistry. i asked her how long has she been on dialysis? she told me three years and that’s how we found ourselves on the topic of kidney transplants. she admitted that at first, she wanted to have a kidney transplant but then she realized that there are younger adults who need kidneys. she said that she lived a good life, hard but good life and so she is fine with turning down a kidney so that another patient can have it and experience their life fully.

inside, i felt my heart melt at the sense of altruism. 

this is why i love healthcare. it reveals a very human perspective of life. it is so precious. it makes you realize that some shit is just not worth holding on to or even entertaining because life is so short. just because i recognize the value of life, it does not mean that i will let people walk all over me. i’m not a MF pacifist. i will cut you the fuck out, man, because life is too short to deal with bullshit.

today i learned, that Dr. Jabbal left his position as a plastic surgeon to become a youtuber because ultimately, he wants to end medical student and physician suicide.... and it clicked as to why he created these videos to help people gain control over their lives, to question your motives for becoming a physician because many people?... they feel trapped. this solidified the importance of purpose, of MF discipline.

discipline isn’t restrictive dude. discipline = freedom. people who think that discipline limits their life... it comes from a place of a fear of the unknown and of failure. discipline allows you greater control over how you want to allocate your time. as humans, our default is to be impulsive and satisfy our cravings and avoid struggle. 

people who lack discipline AND do nothing about it, just make excuses (AND they know it but try to justify it).... annoy the fuck out of me because they remind me too closely of the person i used to be. and the person that i was needed a MF wake up call. i try and be the person that i needed back then for the person who needs it now. but i can’t tell you what you need. i can only send you books, videos, etc. i put in a lot of energy until i cannot anymore at the expense of my own dreams and goals. these people just bleed you dry and they need professional help. they know what they are doing but they don’t care enough and can’t admit that they don’t care because their actions speak so much louder than their cries of woe. so to these people, you need to wish them good luck and then take care of yourself.

in a nutshell:

no grasp on their habits = no freedom

no financial habits = always short on cash

no healthy food and exercise habits = always lethargic

identity → processes → outcome

#2 is more effective than #1. this also illustrates the power of language. take for an example a person who is offered cigarettes. 

person A says “no thanks, i’m trying to stop smoking”... a goal oriented statement. 

person B says “no thanks, i’m not a smoker”.... an identity oriented statement.

SOME of its parts...or The Ship of Theseus has a Fire Sale.

Webster’s dictionary defines (Fill in the Blank) as (one thing or another) and humanity takes that definition, often ignores it, and does whatever serves them best. I believe we’re living in a time of definitions. Categories. People in “furnished, insulated, with 2 day delivery on decor that defines them” boxes. 

Essential and not. 

Healthy and not. 

Artist or advocate, but definitely not both. 

Definitions can help when we speak the same language we already understand each other a little bit on an individual level. It doesn’t take more than a few minutes of talking with someone to learn what’s most important to them, what they are afraid of, even how they think they’re being represented in the world if they have a specific job or position that falls under the public eye in the way that health care workers are currently (and how they have in the past) These workers are essential to sustaining human life and to bettering human life in the future. Doctors have their jobs and no one asks them to do it from home (except for when they do ask them, but that’s a different story). The point is that Doctors just can’t function like that...they need to be in a room with a human to run tests, gather samples, and diagnose disease...even when they don’t need to be in the room, its never easier to treat a patient without knowing everything you can about them. 

Something that we have learned from the Covid-19 pandemic, whether we knew it before or not, is that Artists are unessential in a time of crisis. 

Should we be though? 

And why weren’t we in the first place? 

Just as the automotive industry, (workers, managers, logistic support, et all) shifted gears (No time for puns Sean!) to making masks and ventilators - just as they shifted during WW2 to make bombs, helmets, and ammo - that is the kind of shift in services provided that artists are capable of if the country knew what the full range of our skills actually entail. 

Now, I’m not necessarily selling this for a non profit model. Non profits have stakeholders making us beholden to our community moreso than our national government (although with any government subsidies there should be a place for Artists in the response plan) 

I brought this up in conversation and was asked “What’s stopping you from going and volunteering “the full range of your skills” to those in need? Do you need the government to tell you where to go and what to do when you get there? Or as an Artist can you do as you’ve always done and look for problems that you can apply a creative solution towards?”” 

My problem there lies with the issue that - in a crisis - everyone wants to help. All of the sudden everyone has a medical degree from Google University and goes out to “help” with whatever problem takes over the internet that day.

So definitions. Essential and not. Artist or Entertainer. Helping or in the way.

What are the definable “wooden parts” of the Artist? What about the anatomy of our social responsibility can be laid out and dissected so that we may know better where we are best utilized in a war. 

Not to say that no one has thought about this, but a crisis of this scale has not happened in our modern world and anyone that seems like they have it all figured out needs to remember that they’re experiencing this for the first time as well. 

Artists have skills that are fluid and cross over between industries and disciplines - we can imagine, we can create, we can inspire -  We can come up with creative solutions (and do) We can provide services to help with the effects of toxic stress and post traumatic care (and do) We can inspire and organize movements to effect legislation that shapes how we respond in the next crisis. (And we’re doing this even if WE’RE not doing it)

Everyone has a part to play and ours has to be bigger than stay home, do your normal job however you can because what you were doing before isn’t that essential to our society anyway but we need funny videos to watch while people die because it’s just SO SAD - we have to do and be more. I think this starts with a long conversation about who we were in the first place.

He just locks himself in his room, leaving himself to either his gadgets, games, or comics

He seems to get better at some point, but if you’re brought up in a conversation or you walk up to him, he makes up and excuse to bail

To summarize it, he avoids thinking about you [let alone interacting with you at all]

Dozer

Dozer is the second to most reasonable with his reaction

It takes him a few days or so, but he eventually does come to terms with the fact that you aren’t interested in him

He ends up being a bit gloomy during this time period but he still does his best to keep in touch with you

Dozer would try to distract himself from the depressive thoughts by hanging out with other Bulldozers or trying to stay a bit more positive about the situation.

The only problem is that whenever he tries to distract himself by keeping himself busy, his mind always manages to wander back to you and it's killing him oml

Legit it's so bad that he's considering retirement because just being part of the PD is reminding him of you

Kinda just hermits, y'know?

He does eventually get himself back in shape, but he isn't as great as he was before the heartbreak

Despite this, he still does his best to ridicule you and put you down, thinking that it'll make his sad and heartbroken thoughts go away

Medic is the one with the most reasonable reaction out of all the units

He kinda just nods and leaves you be, going back to his room to munch sadly on the chocolates he got for you

He does his best to keep a bright mood so that he doesn't affect anyone else

Though, when he's in private, he's just bawling his eyes out or just generally being depressed because of the situation

He was afraid that you would say no again and it would ruin the friendship that the two of you still managed to hold up

Medic just kept rethinking the scenario in his head, stuck in the fantasy of your acceptance while nobody was looking

Like Medic, he just nods and leaves you alone. The only difference is that he's angry about it

Sniper does his best not to lash out at anyone else, instead taking his aggression out on the field when he's sniping bad guys down

Though, it builds up to the point where he nearly shoots down a civilian

This is when he ends up having to take actual time off to let out some steam

While he's on his break, he'll visit the training room a lot more. So much to the point where he could be going for a full bodybuilder fit rather than his usual average

He withdraws so much to the point where he stops talking to you, other Snipers, and just everybody

Sniper's withdrawal causes him to resign from the police force, using his leftover money to get an apartment to kinda just turn into a hikikomori
