Steve gets a karaoke machine, and because he's a little bit of a dick, he decides that during the next pizza/ice cream/movie/karaoke night, he's doing a song just for Eddie. He stands in the middle of his living room, mic clutched in his fist, his friends and the kids watching him with anticipation. The music cues in and he starts belting, doing the most melodramatic rendition of I Wanna Know What Love Is right in Eddie's face. Eddie is baffled, then blushing, then laughing hysterically with everyone else in the room.

Steve brushes it off--it's a joke, mostly--and if it's anything else, only Robin knows.

The thing is, he can't stop doing it. He serenades Eddie with the same song for weeks, until everyone groans and complains. Eddie's reaction is always the same, but at his fifth performance, Eddie leaps from the couch as the chorus hits. Steve falters, but Eddie doesn't. He pulls Steve into his arms, dips him low, sings right back.

Steve and Eddie, who are both kind of dicks, kick off the next karaoke night by making the song the sappiest, most disgustingly in love duet. They sing until the jeers and laughter drown them out, until they both have a bucket's worth of popcorn stuck in their hair.

No one really minds that they'll have to hear Foreigner every week for the rest of their lives, though. Not with how Eddie and Steve can't stop looking at each other with love spilling out.

I do wonder if the writers of 23.5 didn't anticipate how immediately the audience would both love and deeply understand Aylin as a character

like I wonder if the reason the last few episodes felt very awkward and ham-fisted is because they assumed the viewers would find aylin strange and mysterious and had this arc that "explained" her behavior by having a big reveal about getting bullied when it seems that in reality everyone understood her whole deal from the very beginning

i also get the impression from aylin's big confession scene that they might have expected the audience to overall relate more with the popular seniors (which could explain the otherwise baffling decision to have ton and mawin present when they had no significant part in aylin's story otherwise. I also think they expected the reception to ton to be a lot warmer than it perhaps has been, but that's a whole other post)

either way it feels like there was a big disconnect from what they expected out of their viewers and what people ultimately wanted out of the show
