Business at Breakfast Time

In the bustle of breakfast time

Things You Learn by your Senior Year in College

1. How to create the best combos with the small cafeteria selection, especially over holidays. 

Learning how to get the crispy chicken from one station, and the tortilla from another to make yourself a bad ass chicken wrap.

2. (The obvious one) Learning which professors to take and which ones to avoid at all costs.

You can’t be wasting your brain cells taking that professor that is just... EXTRA AF.

3. How long it takes to get from Point A to Point B on campus, down to the minute.

On those mornings, after college night at the local bar, you know that it takes 7 minutes to get from your dorm to your first class, walking at a brisk pace and add 8.5 minutes if you stop for coffee.

4. Calculating how many questions you can get wrong and still pass.

You’re doing short division in your head, or lightly penciling it in the margin to see that you can get 3 questions wrong and still pass this pop quiz.

5. Seeing underclassmen making the same mistakes you did, but not correcting them because they gon’ learn today.

6. Taking it as a personal challenge with your professor says “you can’t start this the night before.” ...Watch me...

7. Avoiding all the fraternities and sororities because you’re just not on their level of pep... By all means enjoy your delta gamma phi alpha omega theta sigma whatever, it’s just not for me. 

Side note: y’all look like you’re breaking your fingers throwing up your letters in every single Instagram post.

8. Just taking it all in... you’re about to go into the world, and every now and them you catch yourself walking around campus trying to remember every detail. You’re about to adult hard in life, this is the last year to be a “young adult.”

Thoughts that find you in the a.m

I don't know how to explain this exactly. But there are sacred thoughts that come to you early in the morning. Thoughts that concentrate on spreading hope, rather than fear. Thoughts that focus on building others up rather than tearing them down. Thoughts that reassure you that anything in this life is possible if you have the drive and tenacity to see it through. Thoughts that inspire you to save yourself as opposed to being saved by another. Thoughts that let you know you can have control of your life; if that is your heart's desire. Thoughts that show you what you need to do in order to live free. These thoughts are sacred. They find you in the quiet, when you need them most and when you least expect them. Embrace them, welcome them into the home that is your mind. Pour them tea, invite them to sit and make themselves at home, let them know how much you appreciate them, after all they are your friends.

I have had this blog for quite some time, but never felt my writing was sufficient enough to be shared publicly. What I’ve realized in the two years since that point, is that in simply putting my thoughts to paper, it is enough. I’ve come to utilize writing therapeutically, as so many others have, and it has truly helped me see emotions and thought processes I could not recognize otherwise. So here is the beginning to making my work public. In putting it on the internet, I can only hope that others may relate to it and find solace in reading it, as I have found in writing it.
