Sony X90J Series Review: Get a Polished Experience
The Sony X90J is practically everything a mid-range 4K LED-LCD TV should be. Few LED-LCD TVs can equal it in terms of picture quality and feature set for the money, putting it at the top of its class for mid-range models. We don’t like that the TV only has two HDMI ports with 4K/120Hz capability and that it has some screen glare concerns, but overall, this is a great TV that most people will enjoy. PRICE The 65-inch Sony X90J (XR65X90J) is currently available for purchase for $1,599. Of course, the range starts at a lower price point for smaller models, with a 50-inch model (XR50X90J) costing $1,099 and a 55-inch model (XR55X90J) costing $1,299. A larger 75-inch option (XR75X90J) is also available for $2,399 (XR75X90J). DESIGN The Sony X90J isn’t as sleek as the company’s OLED TV series because it’s a full array LED-LCD TV with local dimming, but it’s certainly not unattractive. This TV features a thin bezel and two skinny legs, albeit it doesn’t have the edge-to-edge display that some other 4K TVs do. The legs themselves are simple to slot into place around the border of the TV and provide excellent stability. The Sony X90J’s screen isn’t the thinnest on the market, but it makes good use of the extra space. A complete array screen with local dimming and a rock-solid sound system with two sound placement tweeters on the sides of the TV and down-firing woofers are included inside the TV. You’ll find four HDMI ports (two of which support 4K/120 and one is eARC compliant), as well as ethernet, digital optical audio out, auxiliary, and an RF tuner if you turn it all the way around to the back. There are two USB ports as well. Finally, the Sony X90J comes with the most recent voice remote, which includes a built-in microphone as well as four shortcut buttons for Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, and Disney Plus. The remote feels excellent in your hand, and it’s not simple to misplace due to its size. PICTURE QUALITY Colors and highlights are extremely stunning here, as one can anticipate. The good news is that even when set to Standard picture mode, the TV looks fantastic and has no serious flaws when seen straight on. The picture is nicely saturated right out of the box, with no picture flaws or motion artifacts. Switching to a different mode will give you a new color tone and/or motion processing option, which is nice if you want even smoother control while watching sports. But most of the time, Standard or Custom with a few altered parameters will suffice. AUDIO The Sony X90J is surprisingly powerful in the sound department for a mid-range TV without a connected speaker. The X90J uses only two 10W full-range drivers and two side tweeters to provide convincing and clear audio that, for the most part, sounds excellent. The X90J, like other Sony TVs, features Sony’s innovative X-Balanced Speaker to produce cleaner sound with less distortion at high volumes, and the tweeters assist in extending the TV’s soundstage – albeit it does make some bass response tradeoffs. The shows, movies, and games we watched on TV sounded crisp and clear, with clear language and solid simulated 3D sound. While the simulated 3D audio will never be as excellent as a full Dolby Atmos setup – it’s not even close – it is a useful feature to have while you wait for a more comprehensive AV system to be installed. The good news is that the TV supports Dolby Atmos passthrough via its HDMI 3 eARC connector, making it simple to connect a soundbar and operate both from the TV’s remote. We recommend combining it with a soundbar like the Sonos Arc, but any Dolby Atmos soundbar will suffice. Overall, there’s certainly space for development, particularly in stronger bass and better-simulated surround sound, but it’s one of the more powerful TV speaker systems we’ve heard on a mid-range 4K TV. CONCLUSIONS Sony’s X90J is a significant upgrade over last year’s versions, with HDMI 2.1 support, a faster processor, and a new Google TV Platform smart TV interface. Its color reproduction is fantastic, thanks to some ingenious processing techniques that make images look as good as they can on an LED TV. In addition, it has great upscaling and motion processing capabilities. However, there are a few areas where it may be improved. The X90J features one of the largest screens we’ve seen in a while, and serious gamers will be disappointed by the lack of VRR at launch. And, while its speakers are adequate, they could be a little punchier – though, of course, adding a soundbar solves this problem. Overall, the Sony X90J is a fantastic mid-range television for the money, with excellent picture clarity, good black levels, smooth motion, and good usability. Mac OS X 10 Public Beta
Prior to the release of the first Mac OS X version, the public beta, known inside Apple as Kodiak, was released by the company to developers to test the operating system and create software in time for the final release.
It is the first operating system to introduce the Aqua user interface – which is still used up until today. It was launched in September 2000 and it cost $29.95 to purchase. It became unsupported after March 24th 2001.
Mac OS X 10.0 Cheetah
Apple started the trend of naming its operating systems after big cats with Mac OS X 10.0, code name: Cheetah. It was the final nail in the coffin for Mac OS 9 and was released in March 24, 2001. It introduced the Dock, Mail, TextEdit, and still had Sherlock.
However, it was negatively received by the public for a variety of reasons:
It required 128 RAM at a time when the standard for Apple-made computers were at 64 MB.
The Aqua UI was slow and sluggish: the earlier operating systems were faster compared to it.
It had stability issues and was riddled with numerous bugs which caused kernel panics.
Hardware and compatibility issues, like missing DVD playback, not having a CD burning feature, and missing hardware driver issues.
The Cheetah as priced at $129, but it was so bad that it wasn’t worth the money and it rendered Apple to offer the next version for free.
Mac OS X 10.1 Puma
It was introduced later in September 2001, six months after Cheetah was released. It was handed out free of charge to Cheetah users. Though it fixed several bugs and areas where the Cheetah was lacking, it was not a significant upgrade and system crashes were still a norm.
Unlike its predecessor, Puma now had CD and DVD burning capabilities, playback support, and introduced several performance enhancements.
Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar
Unlike the Cheetah and Puma, Apple the operating system’s code name, Jaguar, for marketing and advertisement purposes. It was released nearly a year after Puma, at August 24, 2002. The released featured single installation versions and family packs, which allowed it to be installed to up to five devices.
It was well-received by most Mac users, considering that most of the performance issues in the previous versions were addressed. It includes features which are still present in Macs up to this day, like MPEG-4 support for Quicktime, the Address Book, and Inkwell. Its most significant additions were Apple Mail and a messaging client called iChat, which was subsequently replaced with the Messages app after Mountain Lion.

The Panther was released to the public on October 24, 2003, more than a year after Jaguar’s release. It was one of Apple’s biggest releases, considering that it introduced numerous updates and features (150, as claimed by Apple), including:

Exposé, which helps users manage their Windows.

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger
The Tiger was met with a roaring reception after it was made public on April 29, 2005 – it became Apple’s bestselling operating system, selling over two million copies within six weeks after release. It boasted a slew of new features, including:
Spotlight – it effectively replaced Sherlock as the OS X internal search engine.
Mail 2 – a newer and improved version of the Mail app.
Dashboard – an app which featured widgets like a world clock, weather, and unit converter.
Dictionary – this uses the New Oxford American Dictionary.
Tiger also introduced Automator, Grapher, and Quicktime 7.
Mac OS X Leopard 10.5
As the successor to Tiger, the Leopard had big shoes to fill – and it did so to full capacity. It was released two years after its predecessor and was priced at $129 for the desktop version and $499 for the server one. According to Apple, it brought over 300 new features and numerous improvements. The notable ones include:
Security enhancements such as application signing, sandboxes, and library randomization.
Time Machine, a utility tool which allows the user to back up deleted or replaced files.
Quick Look, this allows documents to be viewed on a separate application without having to open them.
iCal now allows calendar sharing and group scheduling. It is also closely synced with the Mail app as well and the icon shows the date even when not in use.
Apart from these, Spaces and Boot Camp are also pre-installed.
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
The Snow Leopard was priced at a pretty affordable $29, a huge markdown from the previous versions which cost a hundred dollars more. In terms of features, it did not deliver a lot considering that Apple focused more on performance and stability. It was more of an upgrade to the Leopard instead of a totally new operating system.

It freed up hard disk space considering that it was relatively smaller compared to the Leopard. It managed to give users an extra seven gigabytes of storage space.

Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
It was unveiled in October 2010 and was released to the public on July 1, 2011. It supported multi-touch features to the Mac and applications now open in the same state as they were closed, just like in the iOS. Speaking of the mobile operating system, the Lion also took a leaf out of its book, including a better and more navigable application display. The OS X notification also debuted in the operating system.

It was released in October 23, 2013 as a free update. In a nutshell, Mavericks emphasized prolonged batter life and close integration with iOS. It was a significant update for Apple fans, given that it brought Apple Maps to the OS X, improved iCloud integration, and had the iBooks application.
OS X 10.10 Yosemite

T9 Portable SSD by Samsung Hits 2 GB/S

Samsung will introduce the T9 portable SSD, which will compete with the most advanced external solid-state drives now available on the market. A significant improvement over its predecessor, the Samsung T7, the Samsung T9 boasts performance that is up to twice as fast as that of its predecessor.
The Samsung T7, which was introduced in 2020, has at long last obtained the makeover that it richly merited. Despite the fact that Samsung subsequently produced multiple iterations of the T7, such as the T7 Touch and the T7 Shield, the performance did not change.
The future T9 will be significantly more impressive than the T7. According to a page that was allegedly stolen from the T9 user manual and submitted by a user on the Computerbase forums, Samsung has outfitted the T9 with a newer USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface that is capable of 20 Gbps. This is twice as fast as the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface that is on the currently available T7, which is only capable of 10 Gbps.
The T9 has a faster interface, which results in it being able to achieve sequential read and write rates of up to 2,000 MB/s. This is twice as fast as the T7. Given the high read and write speeds of the T9, some people have speculated that it may be equipped with a Thunderbolt interface of some form.
On the other hand, Samsung most likely decided to go with USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 in order to give better compatibility with earlier USB ports. In addition to the T-series, Samsung now offers portable solid-state drives (SSDs) with Thunderbolt that are part of the X-series. These SSDs are substantially more expensive than their T-series counterparts. Cannibalization could occur as a result of Samsung’s unlikely decision to develop a T-series drive compatible with Thunderbolt.
According to the criteria we use today, the T9 has a performance that is acceptable. For instance, the Thunderbolt 3-powered Samsung X5, which has since been discontinued, provides read and write speeds that are, respectively, 40% and 15% faster in a sequential fashion. It is no longer possible to purchase the drives. Due to the fact that the Samsung X5, which is already five years old, was never followed by a replacement, it is expected that Samsung will follow up with a new model, which might arrive very soon.
The Specifications of the Samsung T9 Portable SSD
In terms of storage space, the Samsung T9 will be available in capacities of 1 terabyte (TB), 2 terabytes (TB), and 4 terabytes (TB). The T7 Shield from Samsung has the same density as this product. The 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities of the original T7 and T7 Touch were available upon launch. It’s fantastic to see that the T9 will support up to 4TB right from the start.
The T9 from Samsung features a brand new design, making it stand out visually in comparison to the T7. On the new T9, the manufacturer appears to have kept the same dimensions as on the T7 (3.4 inches by 2.3 inches by 0.5 inches). On the other hand, the T9 is approximately 26% heavier than the T7, and many people believe this is because an upgraded heatsink was required to maintain the T9 given that it gives twice the performance of the T7. In any case, in comparison to the X5, the T9 is both more compact and lighter in weight.
The T9 now comes with an extended warranty duration of up to five years, courtesy of Samsung’s improvements. Since Samsung’s portable SSDs, going all the way back to the T1, and even the more expensive X5, only came with three-year guarantees.

For the first time, there aren’t any obvious sacrifices here – Qi charging and an IP68 rating finally make an appearance – which makes the £799 price even more impressive. Yes, it is pricier than OnePlus phones of years gone, but it’s far more affordable than similar devices from the likes of Samsung and Oppo. The star of the show is the 6.78-inch OLED display, which has a 120Hz refresh rate and a QHD+ resolution. It’s smooth, seriously bright and oh so crisp. However, if you want to get the most from that 4510mAh battery, then you’ll probably want to keep the resolution at FHD+. Like all OnePlus phones, the 8 Pro has all the latest tech inside. There’s a 5G-capable Snapdragon 865 running the show, with either 8 or 12GB RAM. Four cameras sit on the back, including a very impressive 48-megapixel ultra-wide and a less impressive colour filter sensor, while a 16-megapixel version sits on the front. There’s no mechanical pop-up this time around, with the selfie camera housed in a very small cutout. Warp Charge remains to get you to 50% charge in about 30 minutes, and there’s Warp Charge wireless too, which is just as fast if you’re using the brand’s own wireless pad. Our biggest criticism is the slightly uncomfortable body, which isn’t helped by the overly sloping display and massive overall footprint. Bunging on a case does help the situation somewhat. 4. Oppo Find X2 Pro

You could think of it as an iPhone XRS: it takes the previous phone, leaves the design virtually unchanged and alters the internals. For example, there are now two cameras on the back and the same A13 chipset as the Pro model. Most surprisingly, the iPhone 11 costs less than the outgoing model: at £729/$699 for the 64GB base as opposed to £749/$749, this could be the best-value iPhone yet. The 11 offers the best size of any iPhone. There’s more screen to play with than on the 11 Pro, but the phone doesn’t feel overly bulky or heavy. In terms of battery life, the iPhone 11 is a really long-lasting phone that we found went slightly further than its predecessor on a single charge. The new rear cameras are also excellent. The iPhone 11 is much more affordable than the Pro models but boasts exactly the same wide-angle 12-megapixel optical image stabilised (OIS) main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and the same 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera (f/2.4). The only thing you’re missing out on is the Pro’s 2x optical zoom telephoto camera, but if you’d take ultra-wide-angle over zoom, you might well see this as a fair trade – it’s hard to see any differences when comparing photos from the Pro and the 11. The 6.1-inch Liquid Retina LCD, however, falls below the competition in terms of resolution and it would have been nice to see the 1792 x 828 panel upgraded to a 1080p version. Also less than impressive is the 5W charger included in the box. The omission of a fast charger is clearly a cost-cutting measure and remains a significant negative aspect of this phone. The charger provided has always felt slow and this is even more obvious now that the iPhone 11 Pro models come with an 18W charger. Overall, if you’re updating an older iPhone then you’ll notice the vast array of improvements to camera, battery life and design straight away. Highlights include a main 108-megapixel camera, 40MP selfie cam, a 5000mAh battery and fast 120Hz display. While the camera might sound like the key selling point, it’s the 6.9-inch OLED panel that has us most excited. It is truly stunning, with fantastic colour reproduction, HDR support and unmatched levels of brightness. It’s a 120Hz screen too, rather than the standard 60Hz, meaning everything has a smoother look. That camera array is supremely capable too, with the typical rich and colourful images you’d expect from a Samsung phone. The multitude of lenses give it great versatility, you can shoot 8K video and its zooming skills are unmatched. Powering the S20 Ultra is either a Snapdragon 865 or Exynos 990, RAM options up to 16GB and it supports the 5G network which is now live in lots of places. Basically, if there’s a feature going, the S20 Ultra will have it. You’ll have to pay a hefty price for all this power though, both in terms of cost and battery. With the 120Hz screen option enabled we struggled to comfortably get through the day, even with such a large cell on board. And then it comes down to the price of the phone itself. 7. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus

In terms of negatives, it’s big, it’s expensive and the display, while fantastic, doesn’t have any fancy tech to enable a fast refresh rate, unlike the OnePlus 7 Pro. If you want the best of the best, however, there aren’t many superior options out there. This brute of a phone has a lovely display, plenty of grunt, huge battery, Qi charging and water resistance, and comes with USB-C buds. Compared to the S10, there aren’t a lot of new features but this model is still the true high-end Samsung phone for the start of 2020. The S Pen is undoubtedly the headline feature for the Note series and it is pretty much the only flagship around that lets you draw and take notes with a pen on the display. Thanks to fantastic responsiveness and excellent palm-rejection, it’s a pleasure to write and doodle with. With the Note 10 Plus, you can now also plug your device into a Windows computer or Mac for access to a PC-like DeX UI. It includes some new gaming features and the ability to stream games from a compatible PC to the phone. Audio from this phone is merely OK and this seems to be a side effect of having basically no room for speakers. The same goes for call quality, which can often sound slightly distorted. At least Wi-Fi and cellular strength are excellent. Samsung has finally ditched the headphone jack from the Note’s design, meaning you’ll have to rely on wireless headphones or a pair with a USB-C connection. There’s a perfectly decent-sounding pair of AKG branded USB-C headphones in the box, although there’s no 3.5mm dongle. The Note 10 Plus retains a microSD slot for upping the base storage, unlike the smaller Note 10. Google’s Pixel 3a aims to offer the Pixel 3’s amazing camera at a much lower price and a £399 smartphone that boasts a camera this capable is an appealing prospect. Google has ported much of the Pixel 3’s feature set to the 3a, including exactly the same 12-megapixel sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. Pixel 3a also ships with the latest version of Android 9 along with the latest iteration of the Pixel Launcher. Visually, it’s identical to the software you’ll find on the flagship Pixels and that’s a good thing for many. With these more affordable phones – especially if you want the highest-spec devices available – you’re often restricted to convoluted software from the likes of Oppo, Xiaomi and Huawei. Google also hasn’t removed many features. You’ll find Pixel stalwarts such as Call Screen (the US-only self-answering phone trick), unlimited storage for your snaps in Google Photos, and the same Digital Wellbeing dashboard. Other smaller but no less welcome features – including the always-on display (facilitated by the OLED panel) and access to Google Assistant by squeezing the phone’s sides – also suggest that Google wants your experience with the £400 3a to be similar to that of an £800 Pixel 3 phone. By sacrificing its luxury features, Google has managed to squeeze the essential Pixel features into an excellent, more affordable phone. This isn’t the right choice for intensive gaming or multi-day use and you’ll still get better value by upping your budget for a device such as the Honor View 20 or Xiaomi Mi 9. You’ll also be first in line for new updates from Google. One of the big new features this time around is the radar sensor, which lets you interact with the phone through gesture and powers the face-unlock functions. While the facial unlocking is good (and needs to be, as there’s no fingerprint sensor) the gesture stuff is a bit of a gimmick. Aside from stopping alarms with your hand, there’s not much else you can do. But it’s the battery life that’s the biggest weakness. Bose QC 35 ii vs. Bose QC 25
Have you ever wondered why an updated model of a car or bike makes so much noise in the market in terms of advertisement? Logically, it may have some added features that are above the previous performance baseline of existing models. The same goes with Bose Quiet Comfort 35 ii aka QC 35 ii and Bose Quiet Comfort 25.
Though the Bose QC 35 ii is an improved version of the QC 35, it sounds rather unfair to compare the latest with its ‘ancestor’ QC 25. Well… this is because if QC 35 ii is from the digital age, then QC 25 happens to be from the Iron Age in terms of technology.
So before, we get on with some comparison for both these noise cancelling headphones and stir up some sibling rivalry, let us see what makes QC 35 ii distinct and more preferable than its predecessor.
And on a last note of humble nostalgia, the QC 25 were the best at the time of its launch as compared to many other headphones from Bose itself as well as other brands like Sony, Sennheiser, etc. QC 25 is what set the ball rolling for ANC technology and set it apart from others like a cult classic. You don’t throw away an old but premium motorcycle, just because a new model came out; you revere it with nostalgic appreciation. So… guys, a little respect here.
What’s up with the new Bose QC 35 ii?
The Bose QC 25 is a wired on-ear headphone with ANC technology and uses external battery. The Bose QC 35 ii is a wireless headphone with Bluetooth, NFC, ANC and built-in battery. Now, since we got these notable differences out of our way, let’s get in some on the core elements.
The Bose QC 35 ii is the all-better version of the QC series and by far one of the best wireless headphones in the market. The notable addition happens to be an extra hardware button that activates the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. The sound quality is distinct and the QC 35ii does not keep you hanging giving you a pleasurable feel throughout the sound spectrum. Build quality is improved and the premium headphones do make a significant functional statement without much boasting over its predecessor.
Now let’s pick apart, one by one, the functionalities to have a clear view:
Build quality
Stronger in every sense, the headband has ‘Alcantara’, which is synthetic suede, normally found in exotic supercars. Both headphones have this finish and the QC 25 has a black matte finish with grey ear cups. The QC 35 ii is all black matte with metal hinges and does look equally strong, even in its all-plastic construction.
Comfortable
Both of them have adjustable headbands and deep ear cups that make it breathable for the ears. The ear cups for both headphones have a 90-degree forward swivel and a 5-degree backward swivel making stow away easy in the Bose carry case. One notable difference – when you place the QC 25 on a table, with its ear cups face to face, they lap on each other completely as an oval dome but the QC 35 ii do not touch each other fully – except at the base of the ear cups. This small angle of contact plays a significant role while wearing these headphones and the QC 35 ii gives you a relaxed feel compared to the ‘clampy’ feel of the QC 25.
The faux leather on the earcups is ample in QC 25, but there is more ‘cushion’ in the QC 35 ii. Feels a little odd to say, but the experience was surreal, since the sound quality changed and there was more background noise reduction as compared to QC 25.
QC 25 happens to be lightweight of the two and weighs only 192 grams whereas the QC 35 ii weight 232 grams. Ironically, it is heavier than the QC 25 but the QC 35 ii is the lightest in the market, in comparison to other brands in the same segment.
Battery
QC 25 uses AAA battery that last around 30-35 hours while the QC 35 ii has a built-in battery with a playtime of 20 hours on one single charge, with ANC turned on. This is the significant change in both the headphones.
Wired vs. Wireless
Bose QC 25 is a wired headphone – a major strike; but you must realize that the QC 25 came out in September of 2014, which was still a budding time for wireless technology. These headphones belong to a different category and therefore the comparison here will not be justified. The audio cable that connects your smartphone and the QC 25 has a built-in remote with play/ pause and volume button. It also has a good mic for calls too.
QC 35 ii has built in microphone, which is extra sensitive. This means – if you attend a call in a busy office, even ruffling papers on your desk or the noise of the fan/ people around can be heard on the other end. QC 35 ii mic is not ultra-sensitive, but still quiet sensitive to pick up ambient noise.
Bluetooth and NFC connectivity in the Bose QC 35 ii is brilliant but does not have LDAC (as that in Sony WH-1000 MH3). The play/ pause and volume control are on the left ear cup while a single button on the right earcup can summon the virtual assistants using apps.
Sound
Both these headphones are world apart in sound quality. HOWEVER, THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE QC 25 DISSAPPOINTS YOU. The odd yet surprisingly reviews that I have heard from people are that QC 25 does excel in its own right; I too agree. Bose QC 25 was undoubtedly the clearest audible headphone of its time while the QC 35 ii is a slightly refined version of the same. The public sentiment is too subjective and can trigger arguments over many aspects.
The bass is neutral and good for vocals, instrumentals and other genres on both headphones. Pop songs and EDMs are good but audiophiles will long for a little more punch in the bass area. Rock and metal have clarity but when compared to other brands, the sound may seem a little bass-neutral. The highs and mids are great and there is no distortion.
In my experience, what may ‘seem’ a better audio experience with Bose QC 35 ii is about the ‘features’ than that of the actual audio drivers. I am not denying the refined hardware and the high quality with respect to sound on the new Bose headphones. I am merely hinting that, since the ANC is much more improved, the ear cups are cleverly snug; more ‘cushiony’, the mic is much more sensitive and responsive and finally the wireless factor of the QC 35 ii does make it psychologically inclined to have a bit more concentrative focus on the audio delivery. All these factors provide an experience – altogether different and unique to its own creation.
Since we have counted all the stripes on the hide, now let us put it side by side to get a clear picture.
