You know, if it were any other character besides Tech, if it was any other character in the exact same situation, I don’t think “he’s dead” would be the default conclusion. I really don’t.

And just to be clear, I’m not talking to people who related to or identified strongly with Tech. A lot of us feel like Star Wars kicked us in the face and we’re so used to autistic characters being disposable. I think Tech is alive*, sure, but I’m also sympathetic to the idea that hoping he might come back is just an ask too far—especially after the finale. I get it. We’ve got a reason to land at that conclusion.

The rest of the fandom, though?

I’ve seen people argue that Fives could be alive for years. Fives—a secondary character (yes, he’s a secondary character, I love him and yes he got his own arc in The Clone Wars because that show was an anthology and could take time to do that, but he was a secondary character) who got shot in the chest and breathed out his last on screen in Rex’s arms—is someone who comes up every time we go to a location clones could turn up. I’ve seen arguments that Mayday—who had an agonizing on screen death—could have been alive. People argue that Maul could come back. Ventress had a very unpopular on screen death and burial and DID come back. And I’m okay with that! I’d be cool with any of them coming back. But they all had far more definitive deaths than Tech did (Maul several times over).

Who supposedly dies off screen—remove everything else, take out the foreshadowing, take out every suspicious line, take out the total lack of confirmation and the lack of closure, remove ALL of that, we don’t even need to touch it all, let’s just look at the fall itself—in a long fall that we don’t see the end of because the camera cuts away while he’s still alive

Whose body neither we NOR THE PROTAGONISTS ever see

Is totally and irrevocably dead

In Star Wars?

You know, the franchise where Echo and Gregor both got blown up and were fine, and where Fennec got shot in the gut and then laid facedown in the sand and then in a bantha for hours, and was also fine? That Star Wars? The Star Wars franchise where people live just because? Why have we collectively decided that the rules of storytelling, let alone Star Wars, don’t apply to this one guy in particular?

And to be clear, I don’t think the default would be, “Oh he’s just alive and coming back in the next thing,” I think it would be, “He might be alive, he might be dead—we don’t know.”

But just—“he’s dead and always will be,” is such a wild conclusion for the fandom at large to come to about something this ambiguous.

*To be completely clear, when I say Tech is alive, I don’t mean he was supposed to come back and then got cut. I just think he’s alive, is still coming back, and was planned to do so.

my seniors have been so quiet all year and it’s been fine cause we’ve had a lot of writing/research to do but I need them to talk to me now so i was hit by a bolt of inspiration two days ago and I made them all tell me their comfort level with sharing aloud, rating themselves on a scale of 1-10. i'm actually pretty far into my Picard-era Voyager reunion fic (about 6k out of.... probably 9k or so) but i'm a bit insecure about it because every other longer fic i've written has been a little more insightful & deeper whereas this feels too surface level for my tastes. like i enjoy writing it. and i'd enjoy it if i was just a reader rather than a writer. it's fun to catch up with these characters and figure out how their relationships have changed and write some banter but idk it's just not clicking the way my other recent published fics have.

right, jorge race recs featuring dani has now reached the magical threshold of asks (three) where I feel like demand is big enough that I should really try and prioritise SOME kind of answer. I'm still working on Proper Race Recs Lists for the other two asks, but with this one I'm prioritising speed. and with a focus on races featuring dani and valentino. this won't be comprehensive though ig it did get rather long, I'll definitely forget some good ones, and also my summaries won't be particularly detailed. just off the top of my head. but at least it'll give you something to work with

brazil 2003: jorge's first win, he overtakes a bunch of guys around the outside which he eventually organised his whole branding around. a fun one

assen 2004: a big one for fans of children terrorising each other. very funny last lap

sachsenring 2005: jorge's involvement in this race is rather short but it does set the scene for his feud with dani. a fun little controversy

motegi 2005: race ban race, as a result of a fight with de angelis and dani - who both complained about him afterwards to the stewards

qatar 2006: early in his first title-winning campaign in grand prix racing, jorge has a very dramatic duel with his main title rival dovi

mugello 2006: an exciting four-way scrap at a circuit that is excellent for multi-rider scraps

catalunya 2006: another dramatic-duel with his main title rival dovi, also well worth a watch

phillip island 2006: just a season with a bunch of excellent races really. one of the all time close finishes in his duel against de angelis

jerez 2007: strong three-way fight with title rival dovi and bautista (and barbera before he fell off). plenty of overtakes for the lead, really fun stuff

turkey 2007: probably the race of the season. same three protagonists, different outcome. god these kids can be vicious with each other

le mans 2007: if you've enjoyed the previous 250cc entries on this list, you'll enjoy this one too - this one's a personal favourite. jorge and dovi are at it again, and a particularly.... strident confrontation between the two fucks both of them over and gives de angelis a comfortable lead. so off they go chasing him down. classic jorge celebration too

qatar 2008: jorge's first premier class race and his first pole position to boot. fights with dani, valentino, casey... everyone really, secures his first podium

jerez 2008: jorge's SECOND premier class race. after post-qatar controversy with dani, he's starting from pole again. the race where the spanish king forces dani and him to shake hands afterwards

estoril 2008: jorge's THIRD premier class race (I promise, we'll skip ahead in a moment) and his third pole. also his first victory, after a bit of a scrap with both dani and valentino

le mans 2008: the one where he battles his way to the podium with two fucked ankles. takes to the podium with crutches

motegi 2008: valentino's title-winning race where he fights both dani and casey. jorge comes in right at the end to almost knock dani off in a fight to the line for the first podium place

le mans 2009: very chaotic messy flag to flag race. jorge's teammate valentino has a comically abysmally awful race (as in. contention for worst ever performance) but jorge rides very well to win

catalunya 2009: The Big Duel with valentino on home turf. the most famous race jorge has ever starred in. dramatic throughout, big stakes in the intra-team battle, crazy last few laps

sachsenring 2009: bit of an underrated follow-up duel, again with valentino, with a very very close finish

indy 2009: big championship swing in his favour. includes a bit of a scrap with valentino and then quite a decisive victory

jerez 2010: jorge has to come through the field to dispatch first of his teammate valentino and then dani in one of his best wins, after which he attempts to drown himself

motegi 2010: probably the second most famous duel with valentino. infamous is perhaps a better description. it's for the last place of the podium, they're teammates, the championship fight doesn't involve valentino, it is literally not that serious. neither of them care. they both want it so badly. includes some generational acts of teammate terrorism from valentino

sepang 2010: jorge's title-sealing race. includes a fight with dovi until valentino eventually makes his way through the field from a long way back. the direct sequel to motegi

jerez 2011: while admittedly this race is infamous for events further down the field, it constitutes an assured wet weather performance from jorge

estoril 2011: jorge went into this race with a 100% win rate at estoril. a slow burn duel with dani that culminates in a late clash

sachsenring 2011: decent scrap between all three of jorge, dani and casey, though the late fireworks come between jorge and casey for second place

laguna 2011: duel with casey. not exactly heavy on overtakes, but the one that does take place is an all time great (albeit one jorge is on the receiving end of)

qatar 2012: very significant victory for jorge in coming back against both honda's, especially given casey's record at the circuit. good sign for that season

le mans 2012: important in getting the title momentum back on his side. an assured wet weather victory ahead of casey and valentino's fight for second place

brno 2012: perhaps his best career duel with dani, definitely check it out

jerez 2013: behind a dominant dani performance you get a rather infamous final corner showdown with marc for the second podium spot

assen 2013: should he really have been riding with a fucked up collarbone? probably not, but props for the guts it took to complete this ride

silverstone 2013: duel with marc that is a strong contender for race of the season

phillip island 2013: weird enforced flag to flag race due to tyres that couldn't safely last the full race distance, jorge does all he can to keep the championship fight open. major twist in this race

valencia 2013: while ultimately unsuccessful in defending his title, the final race of the season is one of the most exciting - and a valiant attempt from jorge to do all he could to throw marc off his rhythm

mugello 2014: exciting duel with marc for the win

silverstone 2014: another pretty decent duel with marc

phillip island 2014: not the longest or most exciting duel with valentino you'll ever see, but a fun enough race

aragon 2015: pretty dominant jorge win but there's a cool fight for second between dani and valentino with big championship implications - and the post-race stuff features a sort of 'look how far they've come' vibe for dani/jorge

motegi 2015: involves jorge scrapping with both dani and valentino in a bit of an odd race that eventually comes down to wet tyre preservation

phillip island 2015: just A Good Race - one that jorge doesn't win but is very important in his title campaign and involves plenty of action featuring him

valencia 2015: another title decider. not the most thrilling race, but jorge does a good job doing what he does and it wins him the title

mugello 2016: perhaps the best duel jorge had with marc (after valentino's busted engine nukes him from this particular contest). really exciting, very close finish

misano 2016: jorge and valentino get mildly bitchy on the track and very bitchy off it. features dani disassociating between the two of them in the press conference

sepang 2017: wet race. jorge doesn't feature in that year's title race but his teammate/long time rival dovi very much does, and there's a lot of fun kerfuffle about team orders

assen 2018: all-timer race that heavily features jorge in the fight for the win, along with... a lot of other riders

sachsenring 2018: not the most satisfying watch from a jorge perspective, but included for sentimental reasons since it's the last fight with valentino

brno 2018: tight, exciting race with jorge and teammate dovi battling for the win

austria 2018: decent three-way fight with jorge, dovi and marc that ends up coming down to jorge and marc for the victory. last corner clash

So the boy invited me to go to this thing with him, and I said I would go with him.

And then he posted in the group chat that he (he as him alone and no mention of the fact that I would be going too) would be going to this thing. And he never mentioned that he was planning on inviting other people or checked in with me about it. And that just feels so rude to me. And like it hardly an intimate event and if he had asked I would’ve said it was fine, but my feeling are hurt that he didn’t ask and didn’t mention me in the post.

Am I being wildly overly sensitive about things or is this an acceptable thing to send?

“Hey just for future reference, if we’re planning on doing something together I’d appreciate it if you checked me with me before inviting other people. You’re also free to just say that I’m going too when you post about it.”

What I do is be a passive aggressive both and send the following

“Hey did you think I said I didn’t want to go to the thing anymore? Because obviously you would never invite other people without asking me first and not even think to mention that I was also going. Because that would be so rude”

But I am capable of containing passive aggressive tendencies. Maybe.
