Hiii Wilbur. do u have a favorite poem? ive been reading a poem book by w. h. auden and it's been fun. my favorite poem so far is this one:

Pick a quarrel, go to war,

Leave the hero in the bar;

Hunt the lion, climb the peak:

No one guesses you are weak.

I like this poem a lot for its usage of a specific category of non scentence-ending punctuation until the last line. It being the only line with a full stop period makes it hit much harder. I also just like the tone of it in general. The first three lines paint a specific picture of bravery until the final line subverts that notion entirely. The firm assertion of the actor being weak retroactively paints the first three lines in a new light. Like, what is weakness? Is this person still weak despite accomplishing these things? Or is it a ruse and they never did these things, at least not honestly? I feel the imperfect rhyme of "war" and "bar" is a good illustration of this notion of trickery and fakery. The two words look similar in construction, but they are not pronounced the same in a way that would rhyme, though they look like they should.

I'll share any other good ones I come across while reading, but I really loved this one. I want to hear about any poems you've read recently that you like :]

I'm always very fond of love being described violently, along with the themes of love and hunger being one and the same. Being visceral and raw in its wording and metaphors...always a big fan of that :3. Let me know what you think of it if you read!

sunflower - sun or moon?
