Off topic for this blog I know but I watched the new HTTYD and it resonated so deeply with 5yo me, who remembers the original as the first movie they ever watched, that I cried several times and had to draw Toothless again. He’s like an old friend or a childhood pet to me

Every time the question of “who do you think should have been on the rest of the Council post-gargantua-2” comes up in discussion, I’ll usually see one or more people saying that “Watch and Ward should have been on it” and it kind of makes me go “????”

I mean, I get where these guys are coming from— if it weren’t for their efforts, the whole Council would be dead, and there effectively wouldn’t be a Guild left. That would absolutely be reason enough to have them on the Council. However, one must remember that they were able to save the Guild in the first place by not being Council members. Their wiki pages state (loosely paraphrased) that “they are often the core means of communication, as all information must go through them.”

If Watch and Ward hypothetically leave their current positions to be part of the governing body, who is going to be taking their place? Who is going to handle all the paperwork, set up and monitor arches and arch relations, and (I’m assuming) convey messages and orders from the Council to the rest of the Guild? I’d argue they’re just as if not more important to the Guild than the Council is because of how much of the system they uphold.

Should they be on the Council? Probably not, but considering they saved the Guild they should at least be treated with more respect I think? I don’t think there was a whole lot of that in seasons 6 and 7 💔

I think about the mysterious Jefferson Twilight pigeon anon often (not in a bad way at all ofc). They’re on my mind. “Why Jefferson? And why pigeons?” I wonder to myself. Finally moved back and settled and have more than enough money so I caved and bought 2 of each plush I designed (minimum order quantity is 3) ohhh my critters my goobabs my husbands….

A lot of things if I’m being honest— they’re incredibly funny, their designs are super cool, and when the animators actually give a shit, the way they’re drawn is really cute imo

I initially just started out with a “yeah I have a soft spot for them” shortly after finishing the whole series for the first time and then my brain said “hey you’re gonna fixate on them now”

And then once I was in “I think they’re really neat and if they were real I’d like to think I’d get along with them” territory, I stumbled across the fanfic “Keep Your Electric Eye On Me, Babe” on ao3 at an ungodly hour of the night and something deep inside my mind clicked and my brain chemistry fundamentally shifted and I think I made Gauge the very next night gjfhdjdhs

My photo album for them on my phone is 700+ images and videos strong. Even without posting every single day I am still the only consistent poster in the watch and ward hashtag. Mutuals have DMed me on advice for drawing them because they consider me the expert. I have unintentionally inspired several people to watch VB for the first time because of my antics. Said people always tell me they think of me when watch and ward show up on screen. I think this is a good thing

Also if anyone cares I’ve known of the Ward image used in the new T-shirt’s existence for several months because it is in Doc Hammer’s Bluesky profile banner. Conversely I did not know about the Watch image because Jackson doesn’t have a matching banner
