Main writing WIP is a queer steampunk novel about loyalty, class divides and history repeating itself with the working title Dry Leaves Burn, and my main art WIP is a currently untitled concept animatic about a small robot who lives in the last place you’d expect to find a machine. Corsova is the name given to my invented world as a whole.

In-universe the name Corsova refers to the principle timeline in a vast multiverse called Pluralia.

Pluralia is largely unknown to the sentient beings alive in the Corsova dimension, because it is so far beyond comprehension. In order to understand Pluralia, one must join the Mindlink and achieve meta-consciousness, which is not possible until all sentient beings are Linked in a great network of minds.

The Corsova timeline spans the dawn to the end of the timeline (big bang to heat death), tracing the development of the various sentient groups as they struggle out of a mythic prehistory into achieving Mindlink and joining Pluralia.

The principle action takes place on the planet Corsova 3, and the principle actors are the human and the Fae. Originally evolved from a common ancestor and destined to become one species again called Corsovii, the history of the Corsovan timeline is the struggle to reconcile old hatreds and prejudices and band together for their common good and survival.

The history of Corsova 3 runs through seven Epochs, each one drawing from different mythic sources, cultural beliefs, and fictional genres. While the primary genre is epic fantasy, as the technological and magical knowledge develops, new genres are layered in. The 3rd Epoch is your expected high fantasy epic while the 5th Epoch has layered steampunk into the fantasy (the steam is distilled vapor from a species of magical tree) where magic and tech have merged into Majtech (Artificing, which is more advanced spell weaving, and Contraptioning, which is more clockwork and mechanical), and the 6th Epoch has a fantasy/cyberpunk/ecopunk mix).

There are five major series in Corsova:

2nd Epoch: Annals of the Witch-Lords (projected 3 volumes)

3rd Epoch: The Word and the Sword saga (12 volumes, completed)

4th Epoch: Wars of the Merchant Kings (projected 4 novels)

5th Epoch: Iron Skies cycle (WIP, 5 volumes)

Hello, tumblr users! It’s about time I wrote a proper intro for my writblr.

My name is Nico, I’m a queer, transmasc, teen writer. My preferred pronouns are they/them or ae/aer, but he/him is also fine. My main blog is @distortion-heart.

I write a variety of genres, but most of my work is some flavor of fantasy. I also do a lot of art for my characters and stories, which will probably mixed in with my writing and shitposts.

I’ve started a lot of projects, including comics, novels, and a podcast, but I haven’t finished anything just yet. I love stories with some angst and hurt/comfort, and I’m a sucker for character development.

I’ll probably start a tag list for my wips as I gain more followers and make more progress on the wips, if you want me to add you just send an ask or a dm.

Orion wip:

This one doesn’t have a name yet whoops. This is the story of Orion, an undead interdimensional traveler. He has a habit of popping in and out of other stories, and occasionally plays some significant part in them. Overall, the story is about how and why he died, how he came back, and what he did afterwards.

Penumbra (wip):

After a car accident, a teenager wakes up in a strange fantasy realm. While Laurel tries to find her way home, her best friends on the other side try to find out what happened.

Michael Cherry Breaks Reality (wip):

After Michael stumbles on a mysterious, pink, swirling light portal, the obvious next step is to jump through. He isn’t sure why he’s surprised to meet a scientist god, two cats, and a clown on the other side.

Rose Red Rebels (wip):

I have very few ideas for actual plot currently it’s just the characters. Join the space pirate crew of The Insurgence as they bullshit their way through a galactic war!

The Blood of the Sane (wip):

A little horror podcast idea I’m working on. What starts as friends meeting up to do research on the supernatural history of their town quickly turns into monster hunting, then arson, and eventually shattering reality as we know it.

Untitled other wip:

Technically, this takes place in the same universe at the same time as Michael Cherry, and the external conflict is the same, but I thought I would keep this one separate. A fallen angel, a wizard, and a mad scientist try to take down a corrupt government.

Steampunk space lesbians wip:

A princess runs away from monotonous palace life to explore the stars, and meets the love of her life. And starts a galactic war. Oops. (This one maybe also takes place in the same universe as the pirates idk yet.)

Stardust (wip):

Magical girl story that I started in… about 2018-19. The story has changed a lot since then, but the premise is still the same! A guy who just moved into a new house immediately gets adopted by the local team of magical heroes.

Newhaven (wip):

The universe where Orion originally came from, and what went down after he left. Another instance of people accidentally breaking reality and then putting it back together.

21. How do you come up with titles? Do you use placeholders or tend to change your titles while writing the first draft?

I asked you this question bc titles are my personal nemesis. If I could I would name all my projects “untitled”, bc why can you have untitled poem but prose has to have a title? this is travesty.

Usually when I come up with an idea for short story up to 5k words, it already comes with a title bc an idea = a title. But longer stuff with multiple arcs and so on?? I cannot give them even a temporary title that sounds good.

22. How do you come up with character names? Do the names have a special meaning? If so, what are they?

Names are surprisingly easy for me; recently I’m writing mostly stuff happening in alternate/future Europe, but even with made-up worlds names were never a problem. I cannot even say how I come up with them, I just see a character and the name just pops up. Or I give them temporary names which stick to them in the end : D. I rarely give names any meaning though, it’s not important to me.

30. What is some of the best writing advice you’ve read or received? Why does it work for you?

Ok, so two advices actually. One: all those writing rules and advices are merely a guidelines and you don’t have to stick to them if they’re not working for you. Actually, in my case, my writing becomes much worse when I do listen to the them lmao. Second: it’s just a first draft, it doesn’t have to be perfect. Which is like, my biggest problem with the writing, I just want every word to matter immedietaly that’s why I’m writing really slowly and rarely finish anything.

19. “For fans of ______!” What works would you say are similar to yours?

Oh God, I seriously don’t know? I don’t even have a specific genre I’m writing in, I mean, ok, most of those are fantasy/sci-fi, but currently I have wips that are: a heist, a kinda-steampunk story about exploatation of environement (that’s the supposed message at least lmao), one post-apo short story and one sci-fi-I-don’t-really-know-what-it-is v short story written solely in monologue. so. I could maybe say that the heist one would be nice for fans of Inception (at least I know I’m the fan of Inception and it was a real motivator to even think of writing a heist story) and two short stories (post-apo and monologue ones) can maybe remind sb of Ted Chiang’s short stories? Maybe. He actually has one story that is about the same issue as my post-apo story, although aside from the issue itself, both stories are completely different in like, everything, from genre to what is actually happening; but we come to similar conclusions, I think, which I was thrilled to discover : D (as I’ve read his story just after I’ve finished writing a first draft of mine).

Unfinished Multichapters (my shame)

Cacophony (Mikorei, K Project) My music AU for Mikorei where they play in a band together and Munakata becomes their new pianist after the death of Totsuka. I have the next chapter started and I want to finish it. I just struggled with this fic a lot. Eventually I will finish.

Dance with Me (It Won’t Kill Ya) (Kacchako, BHNA) My dance AU for Kacchako. I really love this fic, Ochako is giving Bakugou dance lessons and it’s like a college AU. I kind of got a lil discouraged writing this so I decided to pause it, but I will be writing it again. I started the next chapter and It’s completely outlined.

Immortal Hearts (Multi-Pair, (mainly Itsumei, Miyumei and Miyusawa), Daiya no Ace) - DAMN this is my true shame. My Vampire AU from Daiya no Ace. Honestly, I kinda fell out of the DnA fandom and it’s why I stopped, but I LOVE this fic and I do plan on going back to it when I get hit with the inspiration. I DO work on the latest chapter every now and again.

Lasting Regrets (Mikorei, K Project) A high school AU featureing Mikorei/Mikototsu angst. I am working on for @munakatareishi I love the idea so so much, but it’s a big project, so it takes me a while to plan and write chapters!! 

To The Skies (Kacchako, BHNA) I just started this fic! @miraimisu sent me this amazing request and my mind went crazy XD. It’s a steampunk AU for Kacchako...the beginning is kind of Anastasia-esque? I really love the world this is going to take place in, and this is going to be my main focus for a little bit :)

Untitled Kacchako Proposal fic (Kacchako, BHNA) so the lovely @silverwings104 sent me an AWESOME request about Bakugou proposing. I am currently halfway done with it, I just wanna make sure that everything stays in character!

Untitled Mikorei Neighbor fic (Mikorei, K Project). I’m working on this for Mikorei week, where Mikoto is a new neighbor that moves in next to Munakata and has to borrow his shower XP.

Soulmate AU (Viktuuri, Yuri on Ice) A reincarnation Soulmate AU where Viktor keeps meeting Yuuri in different lives.

I think these are all my projects currently! I have a lot of other ideas...I count about 15 I haven’t even mentioned XD But these are the ones I’ve started and keep working on sporadically! XD I hope you guys enjoyed this meme LOL

Wip intro: Fire, Famine, & Slaughter

Genre: steampunk? kind of? but make it 17th century instead. also kind of similar to asoiaf in that it's spec fic but based heavily on a real historical event. oh and they have ice age fauna in this world too also

Content warnings: it's a story abt religious wars and all that implies. lots of death and gore and people being horrible to each other over pointless doctrinal disputes. etc

Ten years ago the citizens of the Commonwealth, a world power in a a seventeenth century-inspired steampunk (ish) alternate universe, rose up under the leadership of a rogue politician to kill their king. What followed was over half a decade of brutal military dictatorship, civil war, famine, plague, and general unhappiness for the population. Now the king has been secure in his restoration -- a move which has proved more popular in some sectors than others -- for four years, but lies on his deathbed, and his only successor is a cousin who worships an outlawed god and seems, to many, on the verge of plunging the country back into the chaos it fought so hard to escape.

When a former regicide hellbent on toppling the current regime accuses one of this new king's most controversial advisors of murdering a well-liked lord, war seems closer than ever. Republicans in the shadows, royalists ready to go to war, the aristocracy pulling knives over land, but the Commonwealth's parliament consoles itself with the fact that, after all, this tyrannical heretic of a king and his horrible advisors are but an anomaly -- the crown prince, who is a bit odd but who they all know and love, is nothing like that. Right?

Will shamelessly admit that this story is an attempt to write something which is to the glorious revolution as asoiaf is to the wars of the roses 👍 narrators under the cut; complete character list yet to come. title a placeholder I pilfered from a Coleridge poem ☝️

Marcus "Marc" Waring, Earl of Talbott -- (he/him) a dispossessed and very angry aristocrat from the Commonwealth's colony-member of Hieburne, who quite literally lost an arm and a leg in the civil war. A master swordsman and known manipulator.

John Thompsons -- (he/him) a regicide, pamphleteer, and vicious sectarian only alive for his intimate knowledge of and groundbreaking research on the mysterious ancient tech which keeps the Commonwealth's capital running. #1 hobby is destablising the monarchy; #2 hobby is psychologically tormenting Talbott.

Elizabeth Knox-Clifford, Duchess of Danforth -- (she/her) one of the most powerful aristocrats in the Commonwealth, first woman to be a member of the King's Closet (group of his closest advisors), dedicated to the stability of the country no matter what that requires.

Eleanor "Ellie" Foxe -- (she/her) a mildly unwilling member of a plot to systemically kill the entirety of Parliament in order to restore the absolute monarchy of the Commonwealth's past. Fanatically devoted to her cause and rather cutthroat, but more willing to negotiate than other members of the plot.

Joffre van Andrey -- (he/him) a visitor from the Commonwealth's ally the Risckan Confederacy, and advisor to the the king there, who just so happens to be the brother-in-law of the Commonwealth's own king. A very serious man who tries to do the right thing but usually has his schemes blow up in his face </3

A friend and I got into a discussion about whether or not they have energy drinks in the world of my spec fic story since there is a lot of steampunk tech about and so it's possible that they might have other things more advanced than their pseudo late seventeenth century fashion would indicate, such as dangerously caffeinated beverages, too, which led to a discussion about whether or not they have gamer headphones in the world of my spec fic story and well basically what if the alternate universe puritan pamphleteer villain protagonist of that wip was a twitch streamer

Basic introduction to the Harthean Empire and Republic of Rerar, widely considered to be the two most important and influential ancient civilisations in the world of [UNTITLED VAGUELY STEAMPUNK PROJECT], roughly analogous to the high middle ages wrt how long before the story's 'present day' they were. Text (with some light retroactive editing in brackets because I neglected to edit this beforehand) under the cut

"While people have lived on the Harthean subcontinent for thousands of years, the Harthean Empire was founded in approximately 5 BH [Before Harthe]. The Hartheans were known for their advanced technology which allowed them to conquer large parts of the world. It was largely powered by nuclear [energy]. Harthe's fall took place at the end of the Harthean Protectorate era when all Harthean forces suddenly withdrew to the home island for reasons still unknown.

The language of the Hartheans, known colloquially as 'Common,' is spoken in most of the world -- which indicates the size of their empire [at its height]! One of Harthe's defining aspects was the lack and even hatred of any religion. Progress, and imperialism, were often said to be the only gods of the Hartheans.

Harthe's government was headed by an emperor who commanded absolute authority, and his inner circle. While some citizens could vote, voting typically had little effect [on policy], and of course the emperor was not elected."

"Unlike Harthe, the Republic of Rerar's date of founding is definitively known: 12th January 98 BH when it was settled by pilgrims escaping religious persecution [at the hands of mainland empires]. The Rerarins were known for their religious zeal and culture, as well as [their access to] what has been sometimes termed 'magic.' Rerar's fall was slower and more complex [than Harthe's], marked by the [gradual] loss of colonies and Alendornian aggression causing domestic instability. And unlike Harthe, people still live on the island, and [even sometimes] play a role in global affairs today!

The gods of the Rerarins, while not widely worshipped today, left their mark on the world in the form of the names of the months and days. Rerar's language is often [nicknamed] 'Northern.' Though not as widely spoken as Common, it is only just the second most commonly spoken language in the world.

Rerar's government is often considered to have been the first democracy. Leaders were unilaterally elected by the people. However, this only applied within Rerar [itself], and despite Rerarin fixation on liberty, the situation in the colonies was often one of oppression and tyranny."

Very slowly figuring out the structure of the government of the politically vaguely late 1600s britain inspired main country (called the Commonwealth, made up of Daltoria, Conriston, and Hieburne + also there's another contested tiny piece of land that everyone has a different name for that. well let's just say that the king of the Commonwealth would say it's his but so would every single other neighbouring ruler) in my steampunk project. map of the word which will hopefully make this more comprehensible to come soon

Map of the unnamed world of my steampunk story showing political boundaries (each country is a different colour. etc), major landmarks, &c, as well as capital cities of each country (& a collection of the more important northern city states) marked by red dots. in-universe this kind of coloured world map would be p. uncommon to have, as most maps attainable for the average person to buy are woodcut prints in 1 or possibly if it is a map which includes guides to languages (more on this in a later post) 2 colours. the exception would be people from the Principality of Tallandrie, where there is a strong vaguely religiously based tradition of painting maps & other such typically monochromatic documents, who might have such a colourful map if they had painted it themselves. ink & watercolour on paper
