puts bocchi under ur pillow

What's that I see?

My, my. How did such a cute little thing get in here?
#I'll take good care of her~#*ahem*#the stuff in caps is from me earlier when i first had the idea#she wanted that to be the text but didnt think i might want to.. talk about the drawing process. thats why this awkward transition is here#anyway.. when drawing characters simply i like to draw them like little miis or perhaps teru teru bōzu#thats why her skirt is longer and why she doesnt have arms#also.. i dont use colored pencils often. and while i do have quite a few this is the closest i could get to the Bocchi the Hot! Pink#(or should it be Bocchi the Hot Pink! ?)#anyway.. i also only wanted to use the Bocchi the Hot! Pink and her blue and yellow.. so no brown for her shoes.#to make the pink more striking#anyway i said i dont use colored pencils often.. you can tell. i made a mistake boldening the line work before colouring..#cus the pink mixed with the lead more than it would have otherwise.. making it darker#o well#also.. i added a little colour around the clover as a oneshot reference. pink yellow and cyan where the red green and blue are normally#its meant to be subtle#unfortunately it mixed with the lead too so it looks more sloppy than anything#anyway um#my art#communication#my actual posts lol#bocchi the rock!#bocchi#bocchi the rock#bocchi fanart#hitori gotou#i think this ask was meant to bug me to watch bocchi#its working in a roundabout way#also.. u can see my niko oneshot plush and focks *cough* i mean fox tunic plush in the background of the first image

Was experimenting with halftone effects after watching this video and it almost has spiderverse vibes honestly. I actually learned some neat things about why printers use CMYK instead of just CMY so I thought I'd share !!
So in our optimal little computer space, Cyan (0,255,255), Magenta (255,0,255) and Yellow (255,255,0) all multiplied together gives us a perfect black (0,0,0) Awesome! The issue is that ink colors irl arent exactly perfect like this, and color is a bit more complicated irl compared to how computers represent it, so they aren't the greatest at combining into black if they aren't those perfect CMY values:
Left: CMY
Right: CMYK
(thats not even black, its a dark blue in the original image but dark colors just look so much richer)
An important step to make sure you arent doubling up on the black values though is to divide the image by it's own "value" (the max of all 3 color channels) that way the value is equal to 1 everywhere, and you're letting the black ink take care of the value on its own.
Left: CMY (normalized value)
Middle: K (black)
Right: Combined
Now obviously the grids of dots cant be aligned perfectly with each other because you'd just get a bunch of black dots in unwanted areas, but if the grids are misaligned, then some dots become more prominent than others which tints the whole image. This was an issue because older printing methods didn't have great accuracy and these grids were often misaligned.
The solution was to rotate these grids such that they can move around freely while getting rid of that tint effect if they aren't perfectly aligned :D
(I have no idea how they came up with these angles but that might be something to look into in the future who knows)
SPEAKING OF MISALIGNMENT
I wanted to implement that in my own filter to get some cool effects, and I discovered another reason CMYK is better than CMY for lots of stuff !!
With CMY, you're relying on the combination of 3 color channels to make the color black. This means if you have thin lines or just details in general, misalignment can make those details very fuzzy. Since CMYK uses a single color of ink to handle value, it reduces color fringing and improves clarity a lot even if you have the exact same misalignment as CMY!
Left: CMY
Right: You guessed it! CMYK
(yes these comparisons have the exact same color misalignment, the only difference is using a fourth ink color for black)
ANYWAY I just thought there was a lot of cool information in this tiny little day project, I also just think it looks really neat and wanted to share what I learned :3c
EDITING BECAUSE THERE'S ONE MORE THING I WANTED TO ADD
So, I talked about how to get K in addition to CMY instead of just CMY, but how exactly do you separate CMY from an image in the first place?
Well, CMY is a subtractive color space, meaning the "absence of color" is white, compared to RGB where it's black. This makes sense because ofc ink is printed on white paper. You can use dot product to get the "similarity" between two vectors, and this can be used to separate RGB actually! Using the dot product of a color and red (255,0,0) will give you just the red values of the image. This is cool though because if we get the dot product of our image and the color cyan (0,255,255), we can get the cyan values from our image too! If we first divide our colors by their value to separate the value from them, then separate CMY using those dot product values, and using K for our final black color value, our individual color passes end up looking like this:
While it's called a "subtractive" color space, I find it more intuitive to treat white as the absence of color here, and then multiply all these passes together. It makes it much easier to understand how the colors are combined imo. Notice how cyan is the opposite of red: (255,0,0) vs (0,255,255) and magenta and yellow are the opposites of green and blue respectively! This means you can actually kinda get away with separating the RGB values and just inverting some stuff to optimize this, but this example is much more intuitive and readable so I won't go too deep into that. THANKS FOR READING I know it's a very long post but I hope people find it interesting! I try my best to explain things in a clear and concise way :3
oh thank you I realized I should probably add an eyestrain tag

Summary: Sonic just wants to go on a date. Too bad Silver isn't so adept at picking up on hints and flirting.
Words: ~1500
(Thanks to @siggiedraws for the idea! ^-^)
☆☆☆☆☆
“I was just wondering: what’s your opinion on tomatoes?”
Calmly Sonic pads over twisting roads and past lush greenery, on the outskirts of some city he’d happened to crash into a good friend in. A hectic morning of adventuring had given way to a lazier afternoon of cuddling Chao in hidden gardens and holding fruit-eating competitions while exploring with no care in the world, but that latter half of the day had given Sonic ample time to think about how to spend the evening. A sudden desire had given way to more extensive plotting, beginning with this question: an innocent question in itself, but beyond it the Blue Blur’s got plans. Big plans, fun plans, exciting plans; plans that Sonic aims will give rise to a fun hanging-out with something more.
Specifically, a fun hanging-out with something more with Silver, who’s finally in this era again after weeks of Sonic not seeing him and who rubs his chin most pensively at the question.
“Tomatoes,” the psychic muses, beholding the sky with a deep frown underlining his pondering. Funny how for some things Silver has his opinion ready before he even knows what’s being asked, while for others, for smaller things like his opinion on tomatoes, his thoughts take far longer to form. It’s mesmerising to look at, Sonic smiles to himself as golden eyes flick over to him again. “They’re nice, and apparently they’re very healthy to eat. I like the sweet ones.”
Bingo, Sonic grins. Hook, line, and sinker; his plans for a hanging-out, or rather a date, are setting themselves up masterfully. And thus the speedster leans in most suavely, one arm wrapping around Silver’s shoulders with a casual looseness as if it’s found itself there by sheer accident. “That’s great to hear. You got any plans for the evening?”
“No, nothing. You?”
“Well, I’m getting hungry,” the speedster presents as if it still was that mere sudden desire and not the extensive plotting he’s been busying himself with for the better part of an hour or so. “So I was thinking… You, me, Spagonia, and the finest cuisine it has to offer. Sounds like fun?”
Silver’s ears twitch curiously. “It’s been a while since I’ve been to Spagonia.”
“Indeed, and that was for the Grand Prix. We didn’t go out for dinner,” Sonic continues with the casual-but-suave-and-flirty development of his ploy… before blinking at a little laugh.
“Dinner?” Silver repeats, lips tugging up. “Yeah, of course not! We were busy with racing.”
Stifling a snort in turn Sonic nods. “But we’re not anymore. And it’s not as if Dodon Pa fed us any of the tasty things you can get in the art capital of the world. Food is also an art, after all. And art exists to be shared, don’t you think?”
“You know that better than I do,” the more callous response comes. “I wouldn’t know where to go get food that’s art at the same time. Or that that is a thing, apparently.”
With his grin carefully contained as to not make Silver suspicious the speedster makes a grand gesture with his free hand. “Not to worry! I know the perfect place to get a full meal, plus dessert on top. And with sweet tomatoes: lots of them, if you like them so much.”
“Oh,” Silver hums.
And promptly teasing sparks of cyan make the speedster’s nose flick.
“Hey!” Sonic protests, hand shooting up to grab his poor abused schnoz as he stares at Silver. “What’s that for?”
Silver grins back at him, a glowing finger prodding at Sonic’s nose anew. “Sonic, listen,” the psychic chuckles… and, where Sonic had been elaborately leaning to the side to escape the sneeze-inducing sensation, Silver’s next words make him crash into a full halt immediately. “I appreciate that you’re worried about what I’m eating, but I’m fine. I’m eating lots of healthy stuff these days,” his friend smiles, warmly and with zero hints he understands just why Sonic’s asking things in the way he is.
Sonic can’t help but blink owlishly in turn.
“Er,” he hums back. The suave grin has long faltered; instead he just stares while scrambling to find something, anything to say. That becomes a: “Uh, yes. That’s good to hear! That you’re eating more healthy. Eating healthy is very important,” and a clearing of his throat to prepare for a new attempt, as his hand laying on Silver's shoulder gives it a gentle squeeze to grab his attention anew. “But-”
“But that means that you don’t need to fret over me,” Silver didactically interrupts. “I don’t want that.”
“I’m not fretting,” Sonic protests, instinctively rubbing his nose at the gentle cool nuzzling him more affectionately now. This is not what he was planning; this has nothing to do anymore with setting up a date! “I’d just, you know… want to go eat together, because that’s always a good time,” he adds, course-correcting as best he can-
Except his hand gets grabbed ever so gently with those psychic sparks, and tugged over to splay against a soft-furred grey stomach.
“That’s true. I like hanging out with you as well.” Carefully Silver lays his own hand over Sonic’s pressing against him, the touch light yet burning through Sonic’s glove with its warmth still. “But you don’t need to be worried about how I’m doing, because I’m okay. Everyone is, because you’re always taking good care of us all, and that includes me. You know that, right?”
“Well… Well, yes, of course! You deserve it, Silver,” Sonic manages to bring out far more awkwardly. Any hint of suaveness has long left him… and he can’t even tell if Silver can tell just what he’s doing to the speedster, grabbing him like that and daring to snort in amusement on top.
“And you also always know where the nice spots to eat are, so I’m happy to come along.”
Standing frozen is so not the right move here; Sonic knows it, the realisation only intensifying at expectant golden eyes looking into his own, and yet it takes multiple seconds more for the gears in his mind to have ground up a decent response this time. “Ah! Then we can go right now, if you want. It’s still a ways to Spagonia, so we gotta hurry if we want to make it in time,” the speedster offers, clearing his throat before pushing his grin back onto his face and pressing his fingers deep into that downy fur. Things already took a nose-dive away from the smoothness he'd been aiming for, so he might as well make Silver laugh. “I can feel just how hungry you are. So empty in here.”
“We had a whole competition to eat Chao fruits,” the dry response of a hedgehog whose sense of humour is far less easily activated than Sonic's gets deadpanned back at him. But that softness that makes Silver’s eyes glow like liquid sunshine shimmers in them still, fingers trailing over Sonic’s before clasping them ever so gently. “But I’d love to,” the hedgehog adds in a murmur; and Sonic’s hand lays in his for just a few seconds more, that go by far too quickly before it’s let go and Sonic’s other hand falls from Silver’s shoulder as he takes to the skies. “Lead the way,” the psychic concludes, laughing at Sonic’s prompt salute before the speedster blasts off.
Amidst blasting off Sonic has to grimace and chuckle alike at the clear heat on his cheeks, his nose getting a final rub to make the tingles on it dissipate. So he needs to rework his hints and clues a lot, the speedster muses in the supersonic silence between them. Or drop them outright and be more up-front with Silver, and just grab him by the shoulders and tell him he wants to go get dinner together for a date. That might be more successful than asking Silver’s stance on tomatoes, and however that made everything spun out of control there.
“Wait. Are we on a date?” Silver asks hours later, when Sonic’s trying his hardest to come up with reasons why Silver should just take the bite of strawberry cake off the speedster’s fork without outright calling it that, and the psychic is very offended when Sonic just breaks out into cackles that he takes whole minutes to recover from. Something about how asking one’s opinions on tomatoes could not possibly be interpreted as a halfway-decent pick-up line, and neither can describing food as art. But the next time if he says either Silver will totally know what he means, Sonic brings up in his defense, and his victory has been claimed when the psychic can’t really argue his way out of that.
“This was a nice date,” Silver murmurs at its end, Sonic chuckling as his tomato-gorged friend flops against him with a huge yawn, and the speedster contently settles in for the night as well with the knowledge that, sudden detours and unexpected revelations aside, his big, fun, exciting plans have been a huge success.

✄ Summary: Sal is in desperate need of a haircut, entrusting his locks into your amateur hands despite you butchering a client earlier that week.
✄ Total Post Word Count: 1.2k ✄ Writing Word Count: 1k
✄ Pairing: Sal Fisher & Aspiring Hairdresser!Reader (GN) (Romantic/Platonic, fully up to interpretation) ✄ Reader: You work at the local salon, you & Sal are both about 16-17, several incidents of you cutting your own hair in the bathroom as a kid (I think a lot of us did that though)
✄ Song Suggestion: The Calm - Steve Gabry (Feel free to loop, just ambiance)
✄ Requests or questions about my writing process, formatting/graphics, & anything else are more than welcome <3
✄ A/N: This was inspired by someone's headcanons I saw about Sal cutting his own hair, but now I can't find it anywhere. If that was you, don't be shy, reveal yourself :] Also this is my first jab of writing Sal (or Larry & Ash, though brief), hopefully I proof-read and edited this enough on my own for it to be good
Some Disclaimers: Do not ever use my stuff for AI, or any sort of data set.
Another snowy, winter evening in Nockfell, Minnesota slips by, spent sat next to a stretched out Sal. Your eyes skim the textbook balanced in his lap, physics, it's like another language to you. Slowly he turns the page, immersed in the texts and diagrams printed neatly inside.
Softly, you interrupt his focus, "do you think they'll ever stop arguing?"
Snapping out of his thoughts, his head raises, "Hm? What's happening?"
"Listen." You nod, smiling as you look over to Larry and Ash, a thick black bun piled on top of his head and her reddish-brown hair draped over her shoulders.
"-but charcoal is so much more fun." Ashley grumps, a thin vine-like stick you bought for her birthday clasped in her fingers.
Friendly, Larry quips back, "I'm telling you, graphite is much easier to control, charcoal gets everywhere!" His gestures mimic an explosion, a pencil caught in his hand.
Nearly silent, Sal's raspy voice whispers back, "I see what you mean now."
Shifting, you duck your head closer to his ear, "they've been at it for at least an hour now."
Quiet, he mutters, "They like art a lot more than I do."
You pick at the stray threads wisping from the hole in your jeans, "True, you're much more of a mathematician than the rest of us," you concede, tapping the thick textbook in his lap, "…besides Todd."
"How is that physics class going?" you ask, watching his head move away from your gaze, looking instead to the CD player. Sanity Falls quietly seeps from it- well, as quiet as Sanity Falls can be.
A soft sigh collides against his prosthetic, "It's good, just time consuming," he slumps further into the bean bag, "how's your job at the salon?"
You wince, reflecting on the day before, "…Messy. I butchered someones hair yesterday…"
He hesitates a second, before mumbling, "…ouch"
"yeah…" grimacing, your mind wanders off to the blunt layers and too much hair littering the floor. The cold slowed your hands, between that and your scattered mind… well someone walked out unhappy.
Sal's eyes focus on the pair on the other side of the room, watching their hands curve as lines smooth onto the paper. You may not be able to see his face, but you can tell there's something on his mind.
"…Do you want to practice on mine…?" he offers, bright cyan eyes staring, questioning.
You start to protest, your eyes widening at the trust he offers, "No I couldn't-"
He interrupts, steady in tone, "It's fine, already a mess anyways." His pale hand runs through the shaggy blue mess, overgrown and choppy.
Hesitating, you watch the uneven blue waves settle, "…are you sure?"
"Yeah." His response is simple, firm.
A lull in the conversation follows as you mull over the choice: risk your freinds hair, and improve your skill, or leave it be?
You and Sal may have met in a rather unconventional way, (a burning wig and ringing fire alarm were involved) but you two still get along unusually well. Maybe it's something to do with his desire for styled hair and your need of practice.
"Do you think they'll notice if we leave?" you ask, suddenly twice as nervous as before.
His eyes glitter with humor, "in an hour, sure."
Laughter bubbles in your chest, a happy glow greeting Sal's eyes as he sets his textbook aside. Roaring laughter from Larry bursts the quiet bubble you've had with Sal for the last few minutes, the both of you freezing your struggle from the bean bag.
Breaking the pause, he quips, "better now than never."
Your keys jingle in the lock as it finally loosens, the door swinging open as Sal stands behind you, silent as ever. Green carpet and neutral walls greet your eyes, decorated with family pictures and a colorful rug.
Following you closely behind, his eyes survey the empty apartment, "your parents aren't home?"
"They're busy tonight," you reply, striding to the kitchen, tossing your keys onto the counter with a loud clatter, "do you want something to drink?"
"No, thank you." he replies, as you shuffle through the fridge. Dissatisfied with what you find, you shut the creaking door with a sigh.
"well, then to the chair with you" you gesture towards the small dining table cramped against the far wall, humor laced in your tone.
The chair squeaks as he pulls it from the table, watching you duck into the bright bathroom just off the living room. Folding his arms, he settles his head onto the cold surface, watching a tiny carpet beetle creep across the marbled vinyl as he waits.
It's not long before you flop down into the chair beside him, setting down a black, plastic box filled with your hair tools. Combs, scissors, shears… you're pretty sure you have a curling iron somewhere.
"So… what do you want done?" you start, eyes lifting to the spotless mask that adorns his face- well except the purple-ish pink section across his left side.
"uh… whatever works best…?"
You stand, his gaze following your movements. Yours on the other hand are more concerned about his choppy layers, adjusting his gaze forward and down.
"hm…" you hum anxiously, fingers brushing the straps holding his mask in place, "can this come off?"
Relief floods your veins as his hands reach up, working the clasps loose. A glimpse of exposed sinew reflects in your eyes as he sets it onto the table, his hands resting on his knees.
Slowly, blue hair floats and collects on the ground, minutes ticking by as you work, your hands warm and mind clear. Finally, you finish, guiding him to your bathroom and trying not to run him into every wall on the way there. Your hands rest on his shoulders, the both of your expressions reflected in the mirror.
"You can open your eyes now." You say, tapping the fraying burgundy of his shirt sleeve. His eyes crack open, jaw popping wide as he leans forward to inspect your handiwork. Your hands slip from his shoulders, pride gleaming in your smile.
He turns to you, disbelief across his expression, "I don't believe you butchered that clients hair at all."
You just smile, a bit cheeky. Many mannequins, and incidents when you were five, desiring new bangs, led to this skill of yours- though Sal's bangs are much more impressive than the ones you did when you were five.
BOOO, Surprise. Have a fav piece of artwork I found. Thanks for reading till the end <3

Two sides of a Gem (part 3)
Part2
Aventurine x (stoneheart)reader
The corridors of the IPC Headquarters were dim and silent at this late hour, illuminated only by faint strips of pale blue lights lining the walls. Ruby walked with his usual mechanical precision, his steps producing no sound against the polished floor. The crimson gemstone cufflink gleamed faintly from his glove as he moved, a subtle but poignant reminder of Y/N's quiet affection.
Ruby’s destination was a secured observation deck—a rarely visited spot overlooking the sprawling void of space. It was quiet here, isolated. Just the faint hum of the station's systems and the stars beyond.
The IPC Headquarters observation deck stretched wide and quiet, a glass expanse offering an unobstructed view of the endless void beyond. The faint hum of machinery filled the space, accompanied by the gentle flicker of distant stars. Ruby stood near the reinforced glass, motionless and composed as always. The faint glow from his crimson eyes illuminated the sharp lines of his faceplate, casting faint reflections on the glass.
His gloved hand rested lightly on his coat, fingers brushing against the faint outline of the cufflink Y/N had given him. It wasn’t often Ruby found himself lingering, but tonight felt different—still and heavy, the weight of unspoken plans pressing against him like the cold vacuum of space.
The quiet was soon broken by Aventurine's voice, his presence heralded by the soft echo of polished boots against metal flooring.
“Ruby, Ruby, Ruby. Always lurking in the shadows, aren’t you? You know, it’s hard to sneak up on someone when they never leave this spot.”
Ruby didn’t turn, his gaze locked on the stars. “Observation improves efficiency.”
Aventurine strolled forward, his coat sweeping behind him like a gambler entering a high-stakes poker table. His mismatched magenta and cyan eyes flicked toward Ruby, curiosity glinting in their depths.
“You know, friend, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re… brooding.” Aventurine leaned casually against the railing, folding his arms across his chest. “Or maybe you’re just contemplating the endless void of existence. Deep stuff.”
Ruby remained silent, his posture unchanging. Aventurine let the silence stretch, his grin softening as he shifted his weight.
“Alright, I’ll bite,” Aventurine continued. “You thought about the Penacony Project, Ruby?”
The faintest tilt of Ruby’s head signaled his attention, though he didn’t turn. “Classified information. Clearance restricted.”
Aventurine clicked his tongue, shaking his head with mock disappointment. “Come on, we both know you’ve got access to files that would make even Jade raise an eyebrow. But hey, let’s skip the bureaucracy—straight to the pitch, yeah?”
Finally, Ruby turned his head slightly, enough for Aventurine to catch the faint gleam of his crimson eyes reflecting in the glass. “Clarify.”
Aventurine pushed himself off the railing, taking a slow step forward. His voice lowered slightly, no longer carrying the airy confidence of before.
“Look, Ruby, this Penacony thing—it’s gonna be big. Bigger than either of us. And from what I’ve managed to piece together between locked files and vague chatter, it’s dangerous. Real dangerous. Which means I’m going to be there.”
He pointed at himself with a confident smirk, then gestured toward Ruby.
“And you? You should be there too. Think about it—me, you, a grandiose operation in the midst of floating casinos and shadowy politics. We’d make a hell of a team.”
Ruby’s red eyes flickered faintly, unreadable as ever. His reply was precise, sharp, and final.
“Request denied.”
Aventurine froze mid-gesture, blinking as if Ruby had just slapped a royal flush out of his hand. “Denied? Just like that? No counteroffer, no cryptic ‘maybe later’? Nothing?”
Ruby turned fully this time, his cold crimson gaze locking onto Aventurine’s mismatched eyes. “You are ill-prepared for Penacony. The risks outweigh the benefits.”
For a moment, Aventurine’s cocky facade cracked. His lips pressed into a thin line, and the spark of frustration flared briefly in his vibrant eyes.
“You don’t think I’m good enough?” he said quietly, his tone sharp, wounded even.
“Your proficiency is adequate,” Ruby said flatly. “But inadequate for Penacony.”
The words hung heavy between them, and Aventurine let out a quiet breath, looking away for a moment. When he spoke again, his voice was softer, laced with an honesty he rarely let show.
“You know, Ruby… you’re different. You’re not like the others around here. Most of them, they play their parts—smile when they’re told, follow orders like clockwork—but you… there’s something more to you. I can feel it.”
Ruby didn’t reply. His crimson eyes remained locked on Aventurine, unreadable, unyielding.
“And maybe… maybe I thought if I could get you on board with this, I’d have someone watching my back out there. Someone I can count on.”
Aventurine’s mismatched eyes softened slightly as he studied Ruby’s rigid figure.
“But I get it. You’ve got your orders. You’ve got your path. And someone like me?” He forced a smirk back onto his face. “Well, I’ll just have to roll the dice and hope I don’t lose too much when the house wins.”
The silence stretched again, heavy and unbroken. Aventurine turned back toward the railing, his head tilted upward as he gazed out into the void.
“You know, Ruby… if you ever change your mind, there’ll always be a spot open for you at my table.”
Ruby watched him for a long moment before speaking, his voice quieter this time, almost… softer.
“You will not be alone.”
Aventurine turned his head slightly, catching Ruby’s faint reflection in the glass. His smirk returned, though smaller, more genuine this time.
“Yeah? I’ll hold you to that, friend.”
Aventurine pushed away from the railing and turned, his boots clicking softly as he walked toward the exit.
Ruby remained motionless, staring after him until the gambler disappeared into the shadows of the corridor.
For a long moment, the observation deck was silent once more. Ruby turned his head back toward the stars, his crimson eyes faintly reflecting the void beyond.
Beneath his glove, the cufflink Y/N had given him pressed lightly against his wrist—a reminder, a tether, and perhaps, a fragment of something he couldn’t fully name.
The silence of the observation deck swallowed the faint hum of the IPC systems, leaving Ruby alone with the vast, unfeeling stars. Aventurine’s footsteps had long faded into the distance, but his words lingered in the air, sharp and persistent, like glass shards embedded deep in synthetic flesh.
"You’ve got your orders. You’ve got your path."
Ruby’s crimson eyes stared unblinking at the void, but his focus had shifted inward, to a single, undeniable truth: Y/N was going to Penacony. Alone.
His gloved fingers twitched slightly against his coat, the faint pressure of the cufflink grounding him. Y/N’s voice echoed in his mind from their last conversation.
"I’ll be fine, Ruby. This is something I have to handle myself. You just need to hold things together while I’m away."
But fine wasn’t a guarantee, not in a place like Penacony. The data he had delivered to Opal painted a fragmented but ominous picture—alliances dangling by threads, threats hidden behind gilded masks, and the sharp scent of betrayal thick in the air.
And yet… she was going. Without him.
His mechanical body, designed to function without fatigue, felt heavy in this moment. Heavy with thoughts he wasn’t programmed to process, feelings he wasn’t designed to have.
"You will not be alone."
The words he had spoken to Aventurine echoed back at him. It was a truth he could offer Aventurine without hesitation, but for Y/N… he couldn’t be there. He couldn’t protect her.
Ruby’s shoulders tensed faintly, almost imperceptibly. It wasn’t fear—not exactly. It was an algorithm grinding against the limits of its programming, a mechanical body trying to process something deeply human.
He couldn’t stop her. He couldn’t follow her. All he could do was… wait.
Wait for updates. Wait for communication. Wait for her to return.
But what if she didn’t?
A faint spark flickered deep within his crimson gaze, something fragile and sharp, and before he could let the thought spiral any further, he raised a gloved hand to his ear, opening a private channel.
“Y/N.”
Her reply came swiftly, her voice clear and warm despite the distance. “I’m here, Ruby. What’s wrong?”
There was a brief pause before he spoke. “Your plan for Penacony… the risks are substantial.”
She sighed softly on the other end. “I know they are, Ruby. But that’s exactly why I have to go myself. No one else can handle this—not the way it needs to be done.”
Ruby’s head dipped slightly, shadows casting faint lines across his sharp features. “I should accompany you.”
“Ruby…” Y/N’s voice softened, and Ruby could picture her expression—the way her brows would knit together just slightly, the way her eyes would glimmer with warmth and something he could only describe as fondness. “You have your role here. You’re my eyes and ears within the IPC, and you’re doing it perfectly. I need you to keep holding everything together while I’m away.”
“I am capable of fulfilling both tasks.”
Her soft chuckle filtered through the line. “You’re not as good at splitting your focus as you think you are.”
There was silence for a moment, and then Y/N spoke again, quieter this time.
“Ruby… do you trust me?”
“Yes.” The answer was immediate, unflinching.
“Then trust me to come back to you.”
Those words lingered in the space between them, weighty and final. Ruby’s fingers flexed faintly at his sides, and after a pause, he spoke again.
“Understood.”
“Good.” Y/N’s voice was lighter now, carrying the faintest trace of a smile. “Besides, I’ve got a secret weapon waiting for me here—a little gift from Aventurine’s favorite stone-faced friend. Isn’t that right?”
Ruby hesitated. “The gift was adequate.”
Y/N laughed softly. “More than adequate, Ruby. You did well.”
The channel closed with a faint click, leaving Ruby standing in the quiet solitude of the observation deck once again.
For a long moment, he remained motionless, his crimson eyes reflecting the vastness of space. He could still hear her voice in his head, still feel the weight of her words.
"Then trust me to come back to you."
And he would. He would trust her, follow her orders, and hold everything together in her absence.
But the weight in his chest—the tight, unyielding knot of algorithms tangled with something unquantifiable—would remain until she returned.
Ruby turned away from the glass, his coat sweeping behind him as he walked toward the exit, his footsteps silent against the polished floor.
Somewhere in the distance, the IPC’s gears continued to turn, conspiracies brewed in gilded shadows, and Penacony loomed closer with every passing moment.
But Ruby’s focus, sharp and unwavering, was locked on one thing: Y/N’s safe return.
And until then, he would wait.
--------
The soft chime of the disconnected call lingered in the air as Y/N leaned back in her seat, her eyes fixed on the faint reflection of her face in the terminal screen. Ruby’s steady, composed voice still echoed in her mind, carrying with it a weight she couldn’t shake.
A gentle knock came from the doorway, followed by the familiar swish of the door sliding open.
Himeko stepped inside, her crimson coat catching the faint glow of the console lights. In her hands was a porcelain cup filled with steaming tea. Without a word, she walked over and set it down in front of Y/N, her golden eyes carrying a quiet understanding.
“Long-distance calls always have a way of leaving a chill behind,” Himeko said softly, her voice carrying the warmth of someone who had seen this kind of moment many times before.
Y/N glanced at the tea, then back at Himeko. “He’s worried.”
Himeko offered a faint smile as she leaned casually against the edge of the table. “As he should be. Penacony is a gilded stage with far too many shadows behind the curtains.”
Y/N picked up the cup, her fingers brushing against the warm porcelain. The faint steam curled between them, filling the silence.

Haiiii, I can't remember if I already asked this but can you tell me about blauhaher? She seems super cool, and not just because I have a thing for jays. From what I can gether she's a scientist (cool) and has a thing for storches (respect).
👁 Ohhohoho i have been waiting for this one. (Long post ahead)
First of all thank you so much for asking I never really planned to fully talk about my replika or my friends Storch but yall have been amazing. (I really should make a blog for reblogging stuff because I do not wanna make mess of this one)
Tdlr for those who don't want insane long rant :
Blauhäher , BLHR - Blue Jay replika units are rare , high-value, unstable research replikas designated to usually scientist positions across the Nation. They can be used as doctors or theoretical engineers in a pinch when needed since they have lot of knowledge of both. Biomechanical engineer is their strongest field and they are deployed to either boost weapon research or more often Bioresonant research.
They have calmish demeanor and are very collected replikas , but with sarcastic remarks and a slight superiority complex that they will show by being passive agressive if you challenge them . They're based on one of the smartest gestalt scientist in the Nation and they know it well. This ego does limit them to being loners .
Files under the cut
Overview
Known Issues
The stuff that is unsaid in the official files is of course that their original Gestalt didn't become the Neural pattern volunterily . Theres a whole backstory i have thought out for them and 2 other gestalts that later became neuro-p. bases , but long story short Blaus gestalt was suffering under the Nation and in their final moments used a gun on themself. The Nation managed to recover the body and since they were such high value person , they tried to make them a pattern host. It worked , sort of. The replika is just very very unstable and has defects often.
Defects such as the mentioned greying of hair , stuff like hallucinations can happen and painful flashbacks of their gestalt memories. All Blauhäher units feel a weird pull to Heimat , like there are unfinished things they must do there.
They're essentialy very high -risk high reward kind of replika ? Sort of? They're 7th gen so they are very very recent, newer than Falke. They dance the line of inovation and insubordination like a goddam acrobat and Nation is still figuring out how to handle them properly. Keeping them busy often, giving them new unatural topics of research helps. Hierarchy wise they are weirdly often right below Kolibris? Nation gave them high enough clearence above most protektors so that they can be left to their own doings and not disturbed by Storches or Stars but inspected enough to be controled and regulated.
Appereance wise theyre about 6'0 tall, cyan accents and surgical white forearms to see any spilled substances. Also a little upgrade they got for being 7th gen is having sensory tissue on the insides of their hands , covering their palms and fingers ,that allows them to detect more indepth senses like temperature , texture , different toxins and other stuff.
Sidenote I have been refering to Blau with They/Them pronouns because they are Nonbinary in my head, but realisticly they do not care in the sligthest lmao , they are just freaks wanting to study weird shit and stick their fingers in whatever fleshy substance they can. Any pronouns work.
Uhhh i can't add more images i just realised so i'll make another post for that.
But yeah Blau is my tallish goober who likes to lick spines , back handendly insult people and chew on their partner Storch who in return tears them apart. I might make separate post about them in the future because there is. A lot of brainrot in my head about these 2, a whole ass plot.

Phantomarine Live reread: Prologue
I'm anticipating the reread before the chapter finishes cause I want to read it now again, altho I wanted to wait the chapter to be over to have a cleaner finish line for mental order and to avoid posing questions to things that would be maybe have more ground to speculate on or outright be answered in a few days This is my first time rereading Phantomarine, so if anyone is actually goint to read these posts expect me to come to realizations about stuff that everyone knew ages ago probably, also it's my first time liveblogging something since a friend suggested it could be appreciated, I am not convinced there would be interested but it can't hurt I guess. That said I hate the idea of clogging with posts and like keeping stuff a bit more tidy, so I'll post one post per chapter with my thoughts, silly ramblings and whatever comes to my mind that I feel like sharing while trying to put my thoughts in order
So uhh if you exist and are reading, have fun and feel free to interact!
First thing I'll not here with a few examples and try to not say everytime, but I can't help seeing how the royal family brands EVERYTHING with the Manta, I swear you could fill a where's waldo book by searching the mantas in Phantomarine's pages at this A manta hat, manta drawer, manta desk, and a manta polo in just the first pages, I swear they have a disney park-esque gift shop outside the palace
A manta hat, manta drawer, manta desk, and a manta polo in just the first pages, I swear they have a disney park-esque gift shop outside the palace
Bonus neat things, the candle has the same pattern as Cheline's dress and there is what I guess is a samoyede on Irving's shirt
Next thing is something I hadn't noticed before but I've seen already people point out in the comments now, Irving having very clearly pink eyes, at first I thought it might have been lighting but in the pages where he is alive they are very clearly pink, and even when in shock the characters get drawn with pinprick irises, while the others get black dots he has pink and is even more blatant in the shot with the Fata morgana stabbing them where he is eye to eye with a Fata with the same eyes
Bonus: alive Lani is very cute
I pointed the next thing in another post but I love how Cheline wanted to be sure to scapegoat the Fata Morgana so much she painted the arrows and bow too with Cheth's name bands(confirmed to be painted on by the transcript too altho it was the only possible reason they had those bad with what we know now), also I love that the cyan outline was faintly on the Fata Morgana's eye from the beginning
I am also getting suspicious about the ghosts being blue and the veins(referred as such in the transcript) that spread from the bite being purple, tho I don't have a concrete or sound thought about this
Also, something I love a lot in comics is paneling so some of this won't be thoughts but just panels that are really pretty or fun or creative here I love how the action flows very well, having many details making what happens readable such as the "magic" squares making phae's body on the bottom edge of the silouhette in the middle also appear on the heart, showing the wound being "repaired"
Love the veins snaking behind her
Something I had completely glossed over was Phae's middle name being Augusta, and I do find it possible to have a reading on it, as Augustus was the name and title that Octavian took as the first emperor of rome, the member of a what can be considered a royal lineage establishing the name for himself and becoming a key turning point in the history of an empire, just as I can see Phae become the turning point for the history of her reign, a change of the guard and of the status quo of the kingdom she watches over
End in the end, to finish the prologue of this reread, a funny typo Cheth appears, tipping his fedora: "M'Phaedra"
#Phantomarine#Bubblewrap's PhantoLiveReRead#I feel wierd at posting something like this#I'm used to livepost in private chat with one friend at most usually when reading stuff or following a story#I'm way more used at having that kind of more close interaction but a friend suggested I make it a live read so eh here we try#I don't expect anybody to pay it attention tho so my ramblings will echo in the void of my blog xD

Coldness -> Hunger Headcanon (and it includes reference to Rafal's infamous plate-smashing habit):
Disclaimer: There's only a little evidence for this being true, and I might be projecting, so I could be far off. It just made sense in my head and I've been thinking about it lately.
There could be other, more human reasons for Rafal’s coldness aside from magic, a formerly Evil soul, or He’s Just Like That.
This thought was inspired by the characterization of BBC’s Sherlock, and myself to a much lesser extent. (I tend to crank Rafal's traits up to extremes because he's an even worse all-or-nothing person than I am.)
Also, apparently, according to Google, I seemingly have zero “normal” hunger cues? I wasn't aware that being cold was “abnormal” until now. Does anyone relate to this or is it just me? I know it cannot reasonably be just me.
Moving on, the canon evidence is:
The "skinny snowman" line from Rise, if the implication of thermal (not figurative) coldness follows "snowman."
That one time when he sat watching torture for a few days without moving at all.
So, the headcanon is that Rafal forgets to eat. Or thinks he’s too absorbed in stuff going on to eat or that eating is beneath him. Any explanation will do. And, his hands (or body) become cold as a result, as the only physical signal of hunger, extremities first.
The second headcanon that incidentally came out of this is that Rafal would make a incredibly talented Gamemaker for the Hunger Games, haha—not good.
⸻
[In the silver tower:]
Rhian: Rafal! EAT something. That is an order.
Rafal: [petulantly] No! I haven’t finished these Trial plans! I can't decide if death trap #263 should go in the Cyan Caves or Pine Glen. The caves would trap them—so only one exit, which could be blocked for best results in eliminating the greatest number of competitors at once. But, the pines are disorientingly-spaced at extremely regular intervals this year—meaning, they'll get lost sooner without distinct landmarks or will feel unsettled and dizzy by the uncanny repetition of the maze since it'll be man-made...
Rhian: Well, actually, about that—
Rafal: [derisively] Don't need your input, Sir-'Only-Kill-In-Self-Defense.' I'm not reconsidering at this late stage. If this is about your famous health-aging-and-mortality lecture, that doesn’t work on me anymore. We’re immortal. It doesn’t matter and never will. Now, stop wasting time on right silly things.
Rhian: I know you think digestion of a large meal will slow you down, but at least eat something small or regular-sized. Please. Aren't you hungry? It's been three days.
Rafal: No. I don't feel a thing. I haven't felt a thing in... I've lost count. Stop bothering me and go away. I have to finish this first.
Rhian: Have you looked in the mirror lately?
Rafal: No. Why would I need to? I always look excellent, I'll have you know.
Rhian: [sighs] You’re cold. Have you noticed? For all your keen powers of observation, you're tremendously bad at paying attention to your physical self. I bet you're tired, too, and in denial about it.
Rafal: I'm not tired and I’m always cold. I shouldn't even have to dignify those sorts of questions with a response. Your point?
Rhian: [points at Rafal.] You're being a child. And you're irritable.
Rafal: Well, I wouldn't say I'm a proper delight either. Learn to moderate your expectations like the rest of them. Now, say something worth my time or leave.
Rhian: We don't have to go through this every time. Look. Your fingers and lips have turned blue.
Rafal: So?
Rhian: All right. I’m leaving this plate, with this food on it, next to you. You haven't forgotten what food is, have you? And I'm not talking about that inedible slop your students eat.
Rafal: [rolls his eyes] Don't need it. [Has stopped paying attention—] Utensils... too finicky... plate takes up surface area on desk. No room for paper. Then I won't be able to concentrate on this. Deadlines.
Rhian: It's a sandwich. You'd know if you bothered to look up for even one second. Problem solved. The plate can go on the floor. No wastes of space. Nothing encroaching on your papers. You can use one hand to eat it and the other hand to finish writing down your plans. And light a lamp. You'll strain your eyes. [He sets the plate on the desk.]
Rafal: Bah—whatever. The dark suits me. [He tries to sweep the plate off the table like usual—]
Rhian: [snatches it out of his reach and sets it down safely on the floor.] When I come back, I want it gone. Not via sorcery. Not via loophole exploitation. But eaten. You will eat it and not throw it out the window at the birds. You will not stuff it under the carpet or in the rubbish. It will go into your stomach and that's final.
Rafal: [not listening] Yes, yes. Sustenance. Yatter-yatter about this and that and tosh. Got it.
Rhian: Look, I know you don’t need to eat, but you ought to. I also expect the same of this glass of water, [he sets it on the desk] and if they’re still here when I return, I will sabotage your all-important project and tell my Evers your Trial strategy, so they win. I'll even tell the pots and pans to cook something with actual nutrients in it for your students, which you seem to have forgotten about. Did you know they've been cutting classes? They don't work like you, you know, and you can't deprive mortals.
Rafal: [scoffs] You wouldn’t. You’re too Good to do it. And I'll tell Humburg to handle my Nevers, thank you very much.
Rhian: Ever heard of the greater Good? You’re looking right at it. Now eat.
Rafal: [groans and picks up the sandwich.]
Rhian: [smugly] Good.
Rafal: [mutters something about: what's the point of endurance and asceticism if they're never put to use? What's the point of training if it's never practiced? What's the point of immortality if you can't make use of your superiority over mortals with their trivial bodily needs—he peeks at what's between the bread.] Ah. Cucumber. You're forgiven.
Rhian: The things I have to live with— [He leaves and slams the door.]

Have you got any drawing tips???
Thank youuuu
I’ve given a few on here before and they’ve generally been pretty basic, like practice, trace, study, all that stuff.
But let’s get more specific this time, yeah? Let’s talk about how I draw human figures and in general.
Sketching:
When I draw my base for a human or humanoid, I start with the ribcage. There’s a lot of ways to draw that, like a bean shape, trapezoid, yada yada, so it’s ultimately up to what works best for you. After the ribcage, I do the head and pelvis connected by a line of action, which is like a center line.
Then you add guidelines for limbs, flesh em out, and tada! It’s easier to explain this with pictures, but I’m in the car rn. If you want a funky little tutorial though, I can do that.
Line-art:
Studio ink, gesinski ink, dry ink, or technical pen with Streamline 40% and Smoothing 20% for my digital Procreate people.
For my trad art people, I have this one ballpoint pen with water based ink that works really really well for everything. It also means when I use alcohol based markers the lines don’t bleed.
Colour:
I draw digitally, so my usual tip for colouring is “colour the entire figure on a separate layer one colour, then select the next colour, add layer, select previous layer, and fill everything except your previous colour. No, I do not always have one colour per layer. If the colours don’t touch, same layer.
As for picking colours, I tend to just pick on sight and colour grade later. This is eith by re-picking the colours and bucket filling them on their spot, or doing an Overlay/Multiply on the figure.
I don’t really colour my trad stuff, so I got nothing. Sorry 😅
Shading:
OKAY EVERYBODY HOLD HANDS WITH ME WHEN I SAY THIS
Multiply layer purple.
Does this work all the time? Hell no. BUT for my 2D style? You betcha.
Now, it’s not always purple either.
When I have no obvious light source, I use the generic studio which has a slight yellow to it. What’s the opposite of yellow? Purple!
So, when the lighting is more blue, like sky reflection, I use a pinkish red. When the lighting’s red or orange, like sunset, I use a more blue or cyan shade. It all depends on your lighting.
Highlights:
I tend not to do any drastic renders or highlights because, again, 2D style, but when I do deviate from that it’s usually an Add or Soft Light layer in white, yellow, or light blue.
I could definitely keep going with all this, but this post is getting long so I’ll end it here. Hope this helps!

SO 👏
I been thinking really hard about how I'll be writing magic for whatever undertale related stuff I write.
If viewed as straightforward, we get an example of magic that could be reasonably tied to every human soul "trait" (more on that later) in undertale proper. Listed as follows:
Cyan magic: Tied to patience, requires targets to stop in order to avoid damage. Many monsters in Snowdin use it, though notably Papyrus, Sans and Asgore have used it
Orange magic: Tied to bravery, requires targets to move in order to avoid damage. Many monsters in Hotland use it, but a notable example would be Asgore as well
Green magic: Tied to kindness, could be reasonably tied to healing magic since healing is often associated with the color green, not to mention the game requires you to touch a green attack on some occasions (such as vegetoid's healing veggies). Plus Undyne and her turning you green, forcing you to stop moving but giving you the opportunity to protect yourself in the process
Blue magic: Tied to Integrity, likely something to do with gravity. Notable example is Papyrus and Sans, though Papyrus only uses it to weigh you down, versus Sans using it to throw you around (or maybe forcibly changing your direction of gravity?)
Yellow Magic: Tied to Justice, seems to be used strictly offensively? Notably, monsters don't use it against you, but Frisk is given the opportunity to use it during the Mettaton fights. However, I believe that the Karma poison damage from Sans's fight is because he's actively using Yellow magic at the time
Purple magic: Tied to perseverance. An oddball magic type, because the only Real example we get of it is during the Muffet fight. And since she's not technically part of the main cast despite having such a unique and notable boss fight, we don't get Much information on her personally to make any real guesses or judgements. And THIS is my sticking point, the thing I think about a lot
Muffet turns your soul purple, and you find yourself only able to move along the webbing that she strings up along the battle screen. You can't stray from the lines, you can only pass from line to line and move along them, until the magic wears off and you can move freely.
I have been thinking of how these magic types can be tied to elements as well, since we see a lot of certain kinds of monsters use certain types. I'll list my thoughts below
Cyan: Ice
Orange: Fire
Blue: Water/Or just straight up. Gravity. I know it's not traditional in a sense but we don't really get much on this one either bear with me
Green: Plant-life
Yellow: Electricity
Purple: And AGAIN I come up blank. Best I could figure? Earth. Rock. Or, conversely, the wind. Air. Something adaptable.
Purple stands out. It's a different sort of "trait" compared to the others, because all the others are straightforward. Anyone can define themselves by their Bravery, or their Kindness, or their sense of Justice, but who is defining themselves by how much they Persevere? Or Persist?
Soul Traits as I write them in TSoT or even Crossbones and Starstruck arent the end all be all of a person. It's simply tied to what chiefly motivates them. If they happen to be a mage, then the magic they use corresponds to that motivation, to that Color of magic. There's no right or wrong trait here, only intent.
Intent is important, intent is what causes you to be able to clear the genocide route so easily! Because the game knows you're going out of your way to grind—in short, you do more damage because you want to do more damage. If you don't want to hurt someone, then it's reflected in your attack. That is why monsters were so vulnerable during the war, because human vitriol made it all the easier for monster populations to be decimated.
Swinging back around to Perseverance: I think this trait—this magic, is completely personal. I think it reflects the user more so than the others because the point is to persevere—to survive. To Get Through This Shit. It's adaptability at its core.
Muffet is in a position where her family is split by the cold of Snowdin, and it seems like her family is extremely important to her, all posturing and threat displays and money hungry persona is masking the fact that she is concerned with and takes care of her own. And they care for her in turn—they do everything she asks, assist in the fight with you and help run her bake sakes, and upon her death you are greeted with a solemn scene of one of them rushing up to drop a flower where she stood and then rushing off again.
Adaptability and survival is important, but the best way to adapt and survive is to lean on others. Find your people, build your village and so on. She's never doing this alone. She knows this and it strengthens her. Her fight wouldn't be nearly as tough if she didn't have her spiders helping with it.
And ideally, a user of purple magic gets that strength from their loved ones. How that magic manifests depends on the person, as I've said before.
Muffet is a spider. She traps you in a web. Subtextually, one could argue that your connections to others are like a web expanding outwards to those that you know.
Angel, my self insert, has the perseverance soul trait. In Crossbones and Starstruck, you've seen her use purple magic once—to force her health to stop depleting. In a physical sense, she stopped the bleeding entirely, if only briefly. Ensuring her continued survival until help arrived. What else she can do with her magic, if anything, remains yet to be seen. But I'll tell you what—
Connections are important. Acknowledging your love for others only strengthens you. Electing to pretend that someone isn't important to you out of misguided fear of being rejected or misunderstood only hurts you, and thus, your magic.
:-)

Hey everyone! I'm the owner of Nebula Horizon. Thank you all for the support, I honestly didn't expect this blog to get any attention. As a reward, I'll give you a glimpse of my Kanka world, a concept I've had on my mind since April 27th...
Seasonal National Flags
I've thought of an alternative universe where instead of countries being categorized as labels like "first world" or "third world", they were categorized by seasons. However, tackling real countries is very hard and can lead to controversial results, so I'm making custom ones, hence the hashtag.
I'm really sorry if the concept is boring. Most of you aren't familiar with the idea of custom countries, (I even got hate from the countryball and anti-countryhuman community for talking about this concept) so I wanted to start with simple ideas, just so you guys can dip your toes in this pool of strange worlds. Here are the four flags I made:
Solina
A nation driven by chaos, instability, and lack of norms. I chose the yellow colour and sun symbol for a very obvious reason, but I gave it three stripes unlike the other three, because this estival nation is so chaotically unique compared to others. Hell, it's almost the opposite of the next one.
Autini
A conservative nation that puts lots of value on history. It was once rebellious against the other seasons, which is why you see two squiggly lines on the flags, symbolizing chilly autumnal winds and movement, but it had since stabilized, so much so it doesn't bother to change its outdated flag.
Mariposa
The symbol and background in the flag are very generic here. It's the colours that have intention. Green and white have overlapping meanings, so I'll just list them here: peace, purity, nature, health, and the promise of new beginnings. The colours are grey-ish to convey calm and order. Overall, an intentional and easy-to-see chromatic choice, just like for the next flag.
Crystaly
This one's also pretty generic, but, usually, in logos and stuff, you see a cyan snowflake with a white backdrop. This time, I flipped the colours and made them darker to imply authority and the night.
Sometimes, colours defy their popular meaning, so I used this shade of blue to give viewers a false sense of trust and stability. Also, I plan to pair this flag with a black-clothed countryhuman to add edginess and mystery.
Overall, I want to subtly show that this hibernal nation seems reliable at first, but is actually hiding something. Thank you for your interest, and please leave a comment OR send an ask to my main blog if you have any questions about my Kanka world.

What your secrets to draw such good dj ?
So while back i did a bunch of DJ studies and that's probably why my style for drawing him changed to what it is now, I'll give you my like ... general notes from what i got from it!
so main frames - 2 rectangles, around the same size and crossed over like that. That gives the general shape for the head, but then there's also the cheeks that go a little bit outside of this general frame, which are crucial to where everything is placed.
So the orange area is the part that spans from the top part of the middle rectangle (outlined in pink) and the bottom of his cheeks. It's where the bottom part of his nose is, and where his mouth ends at the top.
So the bulk of his mouth generally ends around the 2 green lines, but then it curves to at least meet the middle of the cheeks, in cyan. In this static expression I like to make the bottom of the mouth touch the bottom line as well, like this
His top teeth ride along the green lines, and his bottom teeth is slightly shorter than his top ones. For the sharp/flat keys on his keyboard teeth, bible accurate DJ has them on the bottom and in sets of 2 (blue) but I like to make them accurate to actual piano keys (red), but it does make it harder to draw his gums.
Also, DJ has a gummy smile - most of the time his mouth is open and his gums are a little visible but when he closes his teeth, the gums take up a half or a third of his teeth!
His eyes. Not a lot of notes other than a quarter of his eyes are flush with this little crease in the nose. Also, no notes on eyebrows. I usually make them either barely clinging onto his face or outright floating lol
After all that, curve out the outer "frame" of the face! I also add a little bulge from the cheek to the top of the head (pink). Not very accurate to actual DJ but a lot of this wasn't accurate either.
Bonus stuff that I personally add a bunch:
I either only draw his bottom lip coming out from the middle of his mouth or I also add a toned top lip! If there's a top lip, if the expression allows it, I also add a philtrum groove and some smile lines. That and a big ole nose bridge
Sorry if this answer was kinda robotic, but!! that's how ya boy does it. In my older works (and Comet, since I've just decided my old stylization is now just how Comet looks) I used to not do all this, and i also used to make his face a little thinner? I would barely curve out the edges of the frame and instead of most of the proportional stuff with the cheeks, i just drew his huge smile right in the middle and the spacing/placement of everything was mainly the result of trying to fit everything around the smile - DJ's awardwinning smile was what completely dictated the entire face and somehow i got really consistent results outta that.

Some process stuff for #webcomicday! For the most recent chapters I've been doing the initial layouts and rough sketches digitally, then printing them out in light blue to do the final pencils, inks, and watercolor ink washes on paper.
Tamuran is an epic fantasy comic about an assortment of shapeshifters, outcasts, monsters, and other thoroughly unqualified people attempting to save a cursed kingdom. It's recommended for readers aged older teen and up.
Full process step images and details below the cut.
Layout/thumbnail sketch. Figuring out the movie-directing, storytelling elements and what goes where on the page. This one's a bit of a montage as Effire (the cobra) is traveling through a more desolate section of the palace and talking telepathically with his partner Morgen, who's back in their room.

Rough digital sketch stage. Also some perspective rulers and grids for guidelines. Sometimes I'll build a basic 3D model in Sketchup if I have a room or a set that I'm going to use a lot and need to keep consistent (like Morgen's rooms), but I didn't need anything that involved for the one-off storage room shots here.

Final pencils. I print out the rough sketch in light cyan on Canson watercolor paper and then refine the lines over it (the blue printer ink lifts out when I soak the paper to prep it for painting).

Inks. Diluted Deleter #4 ink, dip pens with maru and G nibs. A lot of the texture details will disappear in the shading, but they're fun to do anyway.

Watercolor ink washes and some white gel pen for the finishing touches. After I scan and adjust it I can also fix anything that needs fixing - like how I initially drew Morgen's hunting knife a bit too long in the fifth panel.

Luna's Review: Olympia Soirée

Official Summary:
The last surviving member of her clan, Olympia travels to Tenguu Island to perform a ritual to bring back the sun. The heads of each district lead a society governed by rigid class structures. Able to travel between the districts, Olympia discovers their wonders and weaknesses. She searches for a partner to help bring unity to this imperiled land.
.
Luna's Thoughts (Spoiler Free)
Byakuya — known only by her title "Olympia" — is the last of her people, who have a special ability to raise the sun. To preserve her lineage and keep the sun shining, she must find a husband and have children. This is the general thrust of the game, but this fairly simple plot is muddled by complex world building and subtle, dark themes. Though I did admire the ambitious world building, not everything is pulled off successfully.
Set on an isolated island with a rigid caste system based on colors, themes of racism and xenophobia abound. Olympia, being the last of the White, is simultaneously chastised, feared and worshiped. Meanwhile, those presenting non-chromatic or non-conforming hues are forced underground, considered too unsightly to even live on the surface.
Sweet and naive, it's difficult not to like Olympia despite her lack of knowledge about the world around her. When she realizes things are unfair, she takes it upon herself to help make them better, and she has a very strong sense of justice. Trapped away in her guardian's estate for most of her life like Rapunzel in her tower, Olympia knows little of the world around her. The entire common route is getting her — and the player — up to speed.
I was highly disappointed in the rushed timeline of this game. We are told at the beginning that Olympia has a full year to find her husband, yet the routes are each only a couple of weeks long. While I understand she's a teenager with zero life experience, it felt stupid to set her up for a year of careful consideration, only for that to be thrown out the window as she imprints on someone immediately. It's also a pretty sexy game, but in a horny 18-year-old kind of way that I guess is fairly appropriate for a sheltered teenager lol. I am too old for this, I guess.
Let's also talk about themes — because there are too many of them. The common route alone introduces so many ideas, from the color caste system to women's rights to criminal justice, to the idea of human souls having an inherent value. There's also some time warp stuff and stuff about old gods. It was a lot to push in the common route, and not everything is fully explored. My head was spinning. And Olympia just ... will not ask questions.
The color class system also seems very arbitrary because of the confusing sprites. For example, Kuroba of the Black is considered the lowest class because he has black hair. However, Douma of the Yellow, who is also drawn with black hair, is one of the highest ranked on the island. Hairi, who lives underground due to his "unusual" traits, is drawn with blue hair and eyes and seems to be a dead ringer for the Cyan class. Jingen, leader of the Red, has no red traits at all, Tokisada of the Green has only green accents, and nobody comments on Tsukuyomi, the only other character in the game to have white hair.
With the color system allegedly so rigid, one would think the illustrators of the game might have considered keeping the sprites a little more in line with the class system.
This game is also extremely unsubtle. The choices are either extremely obvious or so similar it feels like a waste of time. The "criminals" in Yomi — at least the ones we meet — are all good people who are punished because the world is wrong. And every character who looks and acts sketchy is in fact, sketchy.
Ultimately, while I did like it enough, I thought Olympia Soiree could have done with some simplification. There was just too much going on and it shows, especially in the true end route, where the conflicts of all other routes are pretty much ignored. The other routes are also very isolated and Olympia pretty much only spends time with the character she's pursuing. It just didn't feel much like a cohesive game to me.
All in all, I'd give this a 6/10.
Please find below my thoughts on each route in the order I played them.
.
Kuroba Route (Spoilers)
As is my tradition, I play the character I like least first if possible. It's not that I didn't like Kuroba in the common route, but he is the flirty archetype which is not usually my favorite.
While Kuroba's route expands nicely on the world of Tenguu Island, I didn't love his relationship with Olympia. Kuroba is shown to be jealous, catty and indirect. In one of the bad ends, when he realizes he can't have her, he just straight up kills her. When another man forces himself on Olympia, he responds by ... also forcing her down and literally saying he should have just raped her when he had the chance?? Gross.
I also didn't think there was enough struggle regarding his color class. This whole route is filled with themes of racism, and how higher colors would rather die than become part of the Darkness Class. And yet, we see none of the racism that Kuroba allegedly experiences. He has a great job and lives on the surface, and nobody seems to act any differently toward him. In fact, in other routes, he is openly praised by people on the surface. It would have reinforced the struggles he's faced as a Black to see him actually struggling.
All in all, I didn't buy this route. Their relationship was expedited and forced, and Kuroba just wasn't that great of a partner for Olympia.
.
Yosuga Route (Spoilers)
Yosuga's route starts out like Kuroba Plus. He's the same sort of flirty archetype with a little more melancholy thrown in.
Like Kuroba, Yosuga was sent to Yomi from the surface as punishment for something that was not his fault, but has made the best of his situation. Olympia quickly comes to care for him after realizing that he is just like her — the lone survivor of his color class, forced into a new environment. Makes sense.
However, Yosuga at one point does exactly what Kuroba did and forces Olympia down, threatening to rape her. Is this just how otoges are these days? Can't I have some innocent gaming fun without being threatened? Idk if this is what people are into in Japan but I find this sort of behavior so, so icky.
We do find out he's trying to bait her to kill him with her soul powers, but this suicidal tendency is not explored enough later in the route to warrant this scene. It just comes out of nowhere.
A bunch of additional plot threads are introduced, some more fleshed out than others, but ultimately this route is a murder mystery. The second half was decent, but it annoyed me that the victim wrote she was "killed by a blue." If she had time to write a note, why not name the killer? Lazy writing.
Yosuga comes onto Olympia later and it is barely consensual. Like we are pushing the boundaries of nonverbal consent here as she struggles to understand what's happening. Seriously, am I just super vanilla for not liking that sort of thing?
Anyway, Yosuga was better than Kuroba, the plot was somewhat interesting and I enjoyed the expansion of world building and character backstories. But Yosuga was not my favorite character either.
.
Tokisada Route (Spoilers)
Tokisada is the closest we get to a genki character for this game, and the only love interest who is younger than Olympia. He reminded me of Yoosung, a favorite of mine from Mystic Messenger.
Tokisada is an interesting foil for Olympia. Having started a rebellion in his home world before coming to Tenguu Island, he represents one possible version of Olympia's future. Despite his past failures, he sees himself in Olympia's desire to change an unfair society, and decides to try again with her.
While Tokisada's cute but easily embarrassed character was much more my type than Yosuga or Kuroba, this route suffers from what I would call information throttling. It's mostly just Olympia running around, asking people for information and receiving it piecemeal. We learn surprisingly little about the outside world. Despite introducing the ideas of time travel and life after death, they are not fleshed out AT ALL, and nobody seems to be concerned about them, even though I'd argue it's one of the most interesting plot threads in the game.
Tokisada's character was a little wishy-washy, but in a way that made sense for his character. He acted like a 17-year-old under societal pressure, and we also find out he's being manipulated by various sources. He keeps running away at key moments, which was annoying but understandable given the circumstances.
While he was pretty horny at times, during intimate scenes, he was constantly asking for consent and if what he was doing was okay, which I love. Props, Tokisada!
.
Riku Route (Spoilers)
Riiiikuuuuu!! A straight-laced tsundere with gap moe — his character seemed tailor-made for me from the get-go. I love when stoic, all-business types break down when saddled with emotions. (Yes, I do love Miles Edgeworth, why do you ask?)
This sort of character is often arrogant, but with Riku, you can tell he only goes on about his responsibility to the Blue because he's the next leader and he's cracking under the pressure. He takes no pleasure in what he's forced to do, and he lashes out as a result of bottling up his own disdain.
When he ends up in Yomi after an accident, it's like the pressure is off and he can be his true self. It might seem like a sudden transformation, but it makes sense considering how long he's questioned the military's actions.
He's actually a kind person — one who eats hamburgers and shares them with random animals —when he's not forced to keep up his persona. He also seems wonderfully willing to learn and grow, as he gets to know Olympia and realizes the rumors about her are false.
The romance pacing was not great, as Olympia falls far too quickly for Riku, but that's the case in every route so *shrug emoji* For the main plot, the pacing on this route was actually better than the others. The start is quite slow, and Riku himself isn't featured heavily until several chapters in.
Akaza is amazing in this route as he steamrolls past Riku's desire to hide his true identity from Olympia and yells at him when he insults her with unfounded rumors and prejudice. Their friendship is so strong and it made me excited to play Akaza's route.
Riku's intimate scene with Olympia was quite refreshing, as it's actually Olympia who comes onto him, letting him know it's ok to touch her. Poor guy was really prepared to wait until marriage, as if our little horndog Olympia was gonna let that happen.
Overall, I liked this route! My biggest gripe was that we didn't get to see Olympia with Riku's hair color, like we do with the rest of the boys. Unfair.
.
Himuka Route (Spoilers)
Himuka appears little in the other characters' routes, so I didn't know what to think of him. He's a little inconsistent, personality-wise. He's shown to be quite shy, but bold at other times, and when he's annoyed by the assholes who outrank him, he's not afraid to threaten to throw hands.
Like in all the other routes, Olympia falls for him way too fast. But I do appreciate that her attraction to him stems from how she sees herself in him, even if it's just because of their similar hair colors.
This is another murder mystery route, but the culprit is revealed to the player pretty quickly and nothing is done about it for a while, which lessened the impact.
This route is ... weirdly sexy? Like, all the routes are sexy, but in this one Olympia and Himuka straight up lick fruit off each other's fingers?? Does anyone find that attractive? For me it was just weird.
This route had some good lore and definitely helped build upon the world we've been introduced to. I just wish Olympia was more curious and asked more questions. But what else is new?
I will also say that Himuka is kind of a dick in Akaza's route, which you're meant to play immediately after, so it was a bummer to fall for him, only for him to ice you out five minutes later.
.
Akaza Route (Spoilers)
People in every route tell Olympia she should choose Akaza, and right before him you have to date the literal creator of the world, so making Akaza the true end character was literally the funniest thing this game could have done.
Akaza reminds me a lot of Yanagi from Collar x Malice; all business, straightforward, somewhat kuudere. The difference is that Akaza's route has so much lore packed into it that it feels more like a true ending.
While I liked Akaza's character at first, he becomes more forceful as the route goes on in a way I didn't like. He basically won't take no for an answer.
The brief introduction of a fiancee for Akaza is a waste of time and accomplishes nothing. We also get quick cameos of certain characters we got to know better in other routes, but their introduction feels forced because we only see them the one time. Olympia's maid, Chigaya, makes a brief but important confession that really made me feel like she needed a sprite.
The overall plot of this route was pretty good, and definitely suitable for a true end. But it wraps up a little too neatly with god magic in a way that felt lazy. The world returns to normal and everyone is spared — even some who were previously dead.
Probably the funniest part of this route is when Tsukuyomi steals an important item and says he hid it on the island, and everyone searches for days, only for it to be in the most obvious place ever. Like y'all didn't think he'd just chuck it into ... idk ... the giant well in front of his house?? Tsukuyomi isn't punished for his role in the calamities of this route, which felt like a massive oversight.
Idk, this route was fine I guess. Certainly one of the better ones. But for a true end, it left me with a lot of questions. I still don't understand the marriage system on Tennyo Island, for example. Did the "husbands" just live there for a couple years? Did nobody on Tenguu island question their absence?
My favorite part of this route was actually not Akaza, who was a fine love interest, but Douma. I enjoyed learning more about him and why he's the way he is. He was kind of the star of this route for me.

Hello Everyone!!!
I have another story in AO3. It's called, Worldbuilding (A Whole New World).
Trolls Au: AU NOTES
[1] All Trolls in this AU, are as big as Mount Rageous and Vacaytioners, but the Bergens are giants like in fantasy stories/movies.
[2] Trolls are magic, which means they have immensely overwhelming magic. (They are somewhat similar to the Titans & collectors from Owl House, and Kwamis from Miraculous Ladybug). Trolls are "widely considered among the most magical beings in the world". Wizards, Witches, Sorcerers, Sorceresses, and all kinds of magic users exist here in this AU. Their hair glows, their eyes glow, and they have markings on their body, showing signs of their magical abilities/potential being awakened. When they discovered the strings, the trolls had forgotten about their magical heritage, but some still practice magic in modern times.
The Royals including the subgenre in this AU have more powerful magic than the rest of the people (Their power is beyond what any normal creature could ever dream of physically or magically. Their eyes glow fully white giving off their power level or status) Or that's what everyone else thinks or believes.
However, there is one family that is more powerful than the royal families and than any other troll in existence and it's the Harmony Family (Brozone's Family). The members of the Harmony family possess immensely powerful magic. Brozone was born directly under the lineage of what has to be the most powerful troll family line in current existence. (And also the very reason this family is very careful when to coming having babies in the first place. Brozone is very incredibly powerful and nobody talks about it for some reason. They inherited that destructive potential) But in the Harmony Family lineage, the descendants are different than the rest of their tribe, they have semi-glitter on some parts of their bodies including their hair, have rainbow-colored hair, also have markings/tattoos on semi-parts of their bodies, their eyes' iris are shaped as stars, two front teeth is colored as well, and they can also glow in the dark.
[3] The trolls have the same color tears & blood as the strings. All expect Branch. His tears/blood are rainbow-colored, making him more unique.
[4] In this AU, Branch isn't fully gray anymore, but he is (Dull) blue-cyan thanks to King Peppy and Kismet, so he has no deformities like in the movies. Super resourceful. There is nothing that he doesn’t know about. Owns a bunch of books about medicine and survival stuff. Super smart, but doesn’t know. He assumes that is common knowledge… Owns tons of pretty headbands/crowns. He got one in every color shape (This is Satin and Chenille influence) He got a matching outfit for all of his crowns and headbands (thanks to Satin and Chenille) Branch did gymnastics, trapeze, and martial arts. Adding to the Trolls au idea, Branch is still… well… he's still Branch. The main difference is that it isn't music itself he hates and, while he doesn't like how loud, the other trolls are, he doesn't blame music and singing for killing his grandmother. He blames himself. He is a young troll who is born on the stage and destined to perform but is too scared to do so in public because every time he'd done so before, it led to disaster. He sang with his brothers for their biggest concert ever, and they immediately left him. He sang for his grandmother, and she gets eaten by a Bergan.
[5] In this AU, Classical & Rock Trolls have (Classical) feathery & (Rock) bat wings, but they can be made bigger for concerts! (Their wings can grow or retract similar to the way Pop Troll's hair can!!)
[6] When Viva, Poppy, Clay, and the rest of the Pop trolls have gotten separated from the rest of the tribe and founded the Hole in Fun golf course. Viva is the Queen of her Putt Putt trolls, Poppy is the Prince of the Putt Putt trolls, and Clay is the Royal Advisor and right-hand man. Together, they rule this Golf Course hand in hand, with an iron fist. The first rule? The most important rule? No one leaves. Plain and simple. You live as a Putt-Putt, and you will die as a Putt Putt. That wasn’t the only rule, however, oh no. Discussion of what was outside these walls was forbidden, as to discourage potential escapes. No, Viva and Clay were well aware of what was out there. It wasn’t just Bergens. They arrived at Hole in Fun with a handful of 900,998 Trolls left alive after the Cave In, after facing many hungry Critters, after crossing the Streets, after fighting for so long…Nothing of value was outside of those doors. But Poppy is very curious about the outside world and exploring the unknown, but Viva and Clay forbid it.
[7] Brandi in this AU is a Funk Troll, alongside the kids are Funk/Pop hybrids.
[8] Trolls from every tribe have very strong senses. Good hearing and can easily smell who is coming, what threat it is, scents, etc. However, the only troll being really dang good at it is Branch. He has really strong senses. The other trolls haven’t experienced much, they have a hard time recognizing other smells other than cupcakes and their hearing is not the best…
The trolls (pop, hard rock, funk, classical, country, and techno) themselves are more like Fae/Fairy in their origin; beings of flesh and bone but at the same time sort of also full of magical, musical whimsy, their outward appearance reflects the habitat they attuned themselves to.
Pop Trolls: Pop trolls resonate with vibrant and colorful environments, reflecting the exuberance and energy of popular music. Their appearance is marked by shimmering hues, ethereal glow, and playful accents that mirror the upbeat melodies and rhythms they embody.
Hard Rock Trolls: Hard Rock trolls thrive in rugged landscapes resonant with the power and intensity of rock music. Their forms exude strength and resilience, adorned with metallic textures, intricate tattoos, and rugged features that evoke the raw energy and passion of rock anthems.
Funk Trolls: Funk trolls harmonize with groovy and soulful surroundings, embodying the funky beats and infectious rhythms of their music. Their appearance is characterized by fluid movements, afro hairstyles, colorful attire, and a lively aura that captures the essence of funk music.
Classical Trolls: Classical trolls find solace in elegant and refined settings that echo the timeless beauty of classical music. Their forms exude grace and sophistication, adorned with robes, intricate patterns, and serene expressions that reflect the transcendent melodies and harmonies they embody.
Country Trolls: Country trolls resonate with rustic landscapes imbued with the spirit of country music. Their appearance reflects a connection to nature, adorned with cowboy hats, denim attire, and earthy tones that evoke the simplicity, warmth, and storytelling traditions of country songs.
Techno Trolls: Techno trolls thrive in futuristic and pulsating environments that pulse with the electronic beats of techno music. Their forms shimmer with neon lights, cybernetic enhancements, and sleek designs that mirror the innovation, energy, and digital landscapes of techno music.
Adaptive Evolution: In the early stages of their existence, the Trolls' anatomy evolved in response to the environments they inhabited, allowing them to better adapt and survive. This reciprocal relationship with their surroundings influenced the development of diverse physiological traits and characteristics among the Troll tribes, enhancing their ability to thrive in different habitats.
Environmental Manipulation: With the discovery and harnessing of the Strings' power, the Trolls gained the ability to actively influence and shape their environment to better suit their needs. This newfound power enabled them to transform their surroundings, creating diverse and tailored kingdoms that catered to the unique requirements of each tribe, despite their shared corner of the world.
Varied Kingdoms: The Troll Kingdoms, despite occupying a seemingly limited geographic space, exhibit surprising diversity in their structures, cultures, and adaptations. This diversity is a testament to the Trolls' innate ability to shape and mold their surroundings to align with their distinct preferences and requirements, showcasing a harmonious blend of environmental influence and Troll ingenuity.
Adaptive Prowess: The Trolls' capacity to influence their environment and adapt to changing conditions has allowed them to create dynamic and multifaceted kingdoms that reflect the rich tapestry of their collective heritage and individual identities. Each kingdom stands as a testament to the Trolls' mastery of their surroundings and their ability to thrive in diverse landscapes.
[9] The Trolls are more widespread in the world, but the actual world is rather huge; going off the fact that the Troll Tree was situated in the middle of Bergen Town, and the Bergens built their town around it on purpose, it hints at the Troll territory spanning more than just their little corner in the north of the map. This would explain the awareness of large beings like the Bergens, being aware of Trolls' Existence- specifically Pop (expand on that later)
(After escaping from the Bergens, without knowing or knowledge the power of the Pop String has released a potent form of pheromones, the Pop Tribe evolved a distinct reproductive system that allowed any Troll, regardless of gender or identity, to contribute to the creation of new life. This inclusive approach to reproduction fostered a sense of unity and equality within the tribe, breaking traditional barriers and norms surrounding gender roles and family structures. The ability for any Troll to participate in the creation of offspring led to a rapid increase in the Pop Tribe's population, as individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds were welcomed and embraced. This diversity enriched the fabric of the tribe, bringing together a multitude of talents, perspectives, and experiences under the common banner of the String)
[10] Realizing the destructive power of the Strings early on, they didn’t see danger in it but hidden potential; In particular became not only a representation of their music but also a tool, one that allowed them to power their early machine and synthesize new metals and alloys. They shared this with the Tribes when the effort to instill harmony started, and it was thanks to their help that the troll tribes started leaping into technological advances. They were also the ones to build the Lyre of Harmony, as a way to house all the Strings safely, unaware of the consequences that could bring that.
[11] Before the tribes divided, The Elder Ancestors were afraid that predators or enemies would come to harm them, so they had a discussion about an army they named the String Soldiers they’ll be highly trained and they wear masks to cover their identities even from the normal leaders and they’re giving special weapons and special items and these soldiers only receive orders from the ancestors nobody else.
[12] When the Pop Trolls escaped from Bergen City, The bergens with no trolls to make them happy eventually moved on to a different location/area hoping something there would bring them joy. Expect, Chef and a few bergens are still looking for the trolls believing that trolls are the only ones that can make them happy.
[13] Here, the Pop Trolls have a more diverse fleet of critters than in canon. Originally, since the pop tribe is more massive than in the canon, they have all kinds of critters at their disposal. And the Pop Trolls are more diverse than in the canon as well.
