So. It’s extremely rough but I’m trying to really let myself get tf over imperfections. Anyway, I’m still in the midst of rottmnt brainrot and I don’t think it’s leaving anytime soon lmao. I started reading WMAS by @chiangyorange and I got to this and couldn’t help myself so here. Take it. I’ve already started a few other sketches from this fic and I can’t even be mad about it lol

The Broken Leo

Disclaimer: I know I don't typically do angst for the Peepaw Multiverse (which is also why I typically don't involve itbotb Leo in it) but I got to thinking, and itbotb Leo would have... very complicated feelings about meeting so many other hims

(The itbotb canon self-worth issues, alcohol issues, and a brief mention of suicidal thoughts made it into this, so watch out for those) WMAS Leo belongs to @chiangyorange who also inspired this with this comic

Leo tapped his claws against his glass, looking around the room.

The situation was ridiculous and honestly a little frightening. (Seriously, what evil god would allow THIS many Leos to coexist in one room?! Something very very important would be breaking soon and the whole multiverse would explode because some idiot tried to make ramen without the water, or something equally stupid.)  But the scariest part for Leo was that every other version of himself he could see seemed so… 

Happy.

Why wasn’t he? What, because he was missing an arm? Big whoop, he’d already counted five other hims missing something. Coin with his amputated leg (and really, he should be grateful it was only an arm), 2 was missing an arm too, didn’t even really have a stump to speak of. Expendable was not only missing an arm, but his shell was in horrible shape and his eye looked enough like his own Raph’s that he’d bet real money that he was at least partially blind.

And he was feeling this way well before he lost it.

Because of the prison dimension, then? He was there an hour at most. Hourglass and Deal had both been there so much longer and got hurt so much worse. And yet there they were, just laughing and talking like old friends, and they’d only just met. Deal was even drinking soup out of his hands, Leo couldn’t even imagine going through trauma like he had and still managing to be able to be so silly. No, the problem was him.

The problem was always him.

What was wrong with him? His dad was finally there and opening up and listening, his family finally trusted him, he got along with Casey famously. Even his future self was there for him! Everybody was! He just needed to stop being such a self-obsessed dickhead and talk to them! Why was this so hard? Leo sighed and looked around to make sure no one was looking before reaching into his pouch and pulling out a bottle of calamine lotion. Well… it had been calamine lotion. Now it was just a cleaned out bottle he used to hide his emergency vodka in. It didn’t hold much (It couldn’t. He couldn’t afford his brothers getting suspicious, after all.) but it was enough. He poured a generous glug into his diet coke before concealing the bottle again. There was a bar in this place for the older Leos, it would be fine. If anyone got suspicious, he could just claim it was Blue’s and he stole a sip because he was curious. That was normal teenager behavior, right?

What a fucking mess he was.

It was bad enough, knowing how weak he was amongst his family, knowing he was the only one struggling like this, but this? This was so much worse. So many hims, going through so much worse, how was he the only one struggling this hard? How was he the only one who couldn’t handle it? This wasn’t just one universe calling him a failure, it was dozens.

“Should’ve just let Prime finish me off when he had the chance.” He muttered to himself, taking a long sip.

Leo felt a bump against his shoulder.

“Hey, you say something?” Leo jumped, turning to see another Leo sitting next to him. “Shit! Sorry, uh, spaced out. How long have you been there?” The other Leo snorted. “Just a minute, dude, don’t worry about it. You good?” Leo blinked before shrugging and putting on the carefree mask, hoping it wouldn’t fail him like it had done more and more lately. “Nah, I’m fine, don’t worry about it. Just, uh, just overwhelmed. This whole situation is wack as all hell.”

“Yeah, I get that. I still haven’t figured out how to get this name tag thing off. I mean, what does WMAS even mean?! And why is there an orange on it?”

“I’ve been saying it like Christmas in my head.” “Of course you would. Why is yours so long, anyways?”

“Dude, I have no idea. My Blue’s matches, so I guess our dimension is just itty-bot-buh with a… deer-bee thing? I don’t know, man.” WMAS snorted. “You call yours Blue, too?” “Dad picked it. It’s still weird, him actually calling me by my name without it meaning I’m in trouble.” “Yeah, I feel that. …you, uh… you wanna go pet the big scary magic dog with me?” Leo raised an eyebrow and looked over at Havoc, who was currently giving a death glare to a big Leo that had gotten too close to Hourglass for comfort. “I think that’s a fox.” “He’s fluffy, it makes him a dog.” Leo rolled his eyes and chugged the rest of his drink before standing. “Eh, I’ll bite. I didn’t have anything better to do anyways.” Blue looked on from across the room with a frown.

Before he responds Leonardo walks into the room. Under his arm is Raph, hanging there limply with a shocked expression. Leo reels at the sight a little bit. It looks like Raph is too as he jolts up. “Wait, you can actually carry me?” “I've been waiting for the perfect moment to!” The older turtle chuckles. “And I can do more than carry you, big brother.” He lets Raph down to the floor and crouches down forward for a piggy back ride. Raph gasps loudly and climbs on his back, locking his ankles together. Leonardo stands up with no struggle and Raph starts to pat excitedly on the older turtle’s shoulders. His older brother was wiggling, and yes, it’s fucking adorable! “Leo, Donnie, look!!” “We see that, bud.”

raph is literally so excited to be picked up, the last time he was picked up was from when april tried and he was like 11. yeah sure hes 17 now but that does NOT make him immune to having an indescribable amount of joy for being carried around like a ragdoll

on the other hand, fleo wanted to return and thank raph in his own way. for protecting him, for taking care of him donnie, and mikey. and also as kind of an apology.

"let me carry the burden you do" is what hes trying to say here. and even to present raph, hes still taking care of fleo. raph cares about his brother so much it doesnt matter if fleo is taller than him now, that hes older with decades on him, that he survived a war.

fleo is his little brother and nothing is going to change that.

onto the leos !!

He sees in his periphery that Leonardo smiles wider. “Awe, you like me.” “Don’t push it.” Leo rolls his eyes. “It’d be shitty to demote you just because you're not from this timeline. If we did that, we’d have to do it to Case– Junior too. It wouldn’t have been fair.” “Whatever you say.” Leo snorts. “That being said, can you stop leering over in the shadows? It's actually terrifying.” “I can only do so many things in the lair before I’m bored again.” “And that means giving me a heart attack every time I go into a room? Put away your scary ass stare man, I swear your eyes turn red.” “I didn’t know you were so faint of heart.” “I should have kept you sedated.” Leo says, knowing he never once put him under sedation.

my dynamic of leos is very hard for me to describe personally. its not hostile, its just complicated, and even then "complicated" has too negative of a connotation.

leo is a person who latches onto family with his entire heart. he accepted karai as gramgram near immediately and we all know how fucked up about her death was on him and to the rest of the boys.

its different when its a version of yourself.

for me i didnt want immediate hostility(look away from the scalpel incident for one sec), because i saw some fics that go too hard into the "leo hates himself" angle and while not unsounded, it can be played straight and have a good payoff, it was NOT the tone i wanted in wmas. it wouldnt match the kind of complication im trying to give across here

pov leo, hes seeing himself as the pinnacle leader, from how casey described him, hes the Hero, this is the ideal of what he should be striving for.

but the person hes seeing in front of him is just a guy. leo saw him injured, resting on bed in the medbay, he saw him start to cry in raph's arms, he sees a father, he sees a confused and lost man in front of him.

in a way its pity. in a way he pities himself. fleo is tired and leo can clearly see that, cause hell, hes fuckin tired too.

“I should have kept you sedated.” Leo says, knowing he never once put him under sedation. “That’s called elderly abuse.” “And you’re how old?” “Do I really- okay I see that face, alright.” Leonardo moves his hand to cover Leo’s face and shoves him back. “You got me. Whatever, you absolute child.” Leo cackles.

and fleo's pov on the matter is, well, i kinda already typed it out all the way in chapter 5

The world of this timeline said that Leo will be able to make up for his mistake with the key. Not him, the world said. 

he looks at leo and feels so much pride, but hes scared that leo thinks less of him. leo managed to save the world and he didnt. and now hes here fucking up a perfectly good happy ending that didnt need to include him.

and on a little more selfish level, "why wasnt i good enough" fleo is thinking.

he doesnt think leo as the superior version of the two of them, but the fact still stands. one of them won. the other didnt. and he sometimes wishes he won too. its complicated.

they dont hate each other, not even a little bit. theyre too good of people to hate each other

I was about to say that I was so sad that we wouldn't be able to see the Future Leo and Aoi art, but I am so happy that we are probably going to see it! (like, the answer: "yes" is almost 100% right now, and for awhile, it was 100%. Though I am wondering is saying "nah", even if it is a minor amount. Saying that, for once, poll results seem to be going my way. I say for once, because I have bad luck with poll results sometimes too).

Also, it is cool to see Aoi/2012's Leo last line (a murderous, savage till the end. And it being basically being maybe implied he would come back to his family and/or revenge or something. Truly a legend. /genuine), even if we couldn't get a whole one shot about it, and Raph's POV and/or last lines to me.

Also, we put up a really good fight, and Aoi to me/us/in our hearts. ^^

Also, thank you for all the art you did for this. They were all amazing, and I reblogged most of of them. Except a couple, like te one with Leo in shades. Which I am going to reblog, idk care it is after the poll now, Leo in shades always brings me joy.

Thanks Virg (the two souls creator ofc. I just suck at spelling their whole name), and everyone else who gave Aoi so much support and propaganda for Aoi. He is truly well loved.

It is sad tho. But atleast y'all had fun in the polls

Wow, Rise Raph won, and by a pretty big margin too.

What a surprise.

(I am trying really, really hard to not be annoyed and petty about this, but at the same time. This IS 2012 Leo, so yeah, that is going to be hard. And also, Rise winning, once again, ofc. I am going to be a bit miffed by. I love Rise and I love Rise Raph. But come on! 2012 Leo really should have won this, or at least not lost by this margin! I would prefer the former, I admit, but I would taken the latter if I had to).

Yeah, I think I am now pretty turned off by this showdown now. If this poll is any indicator that is.

I know polls are just for fun, and I try not take them seriously, and everyone is a equal, winner, and awesome by this books.

But still; not being at least somewhat annoyed, can be a bit hard.

The Rise fandom is so overpowered, it is ridiculous.

More under the "read more" cut, because it gets pretty long. And I go off on some tangents and rants kind of.

Also, this is all very ironic, because I do think both Leo and Raph get/can get hella under-voted when it comes to polls, and Donnie and Mikey (esp. Donnie right now, but it is/was Mikey for the longest time, and it still kind of is, but Donnie even more so. Well, not 2012 Donnie though for the most part, but that is not a surprise considering how poorly some people are treating 2012 right now. Still kinda upset at that one poll that I came across had 2012 Donnie win people's "least favorite" Donnie. For once, winning was bad, and he didn't deserve to win that at all.) can be/can get pretty overvoted at times (I still love them both though. I just wished Leo and Raph got more love too; at least in the polls area).

Anyways, I say it/this poll is pretty ironic, considering this is a Raph vs a Leo poll (and also because they can both be such parents. Though, the funny thing. So can Rise Leo too; both younger and older, future Leo. He is still a Leo after all). Because I think Leos and Raphs deserve a lot more love in (the) poll areas (at least). (They are just as well-loved and beloved and popular as the other two. with just as many fans as the other two. But both sometimes just has bad luck on polls and stuff imo). I I love both 20212 Leo and Rise Raph. (2012 Leo more, I admit, but I do love both).

(Pretty off-tangent, but somewhat related. looking at this poll and so many others when Rise is involved. This is part of the many reasons why I hope Aoi/Two Souls Aoi wins in the peepaw poll going on right now. Because Aoi is a 2012 Leo going up against a Rise Future Leo (who I love. I love Future Rise Leo and Rise Leo in general dearly too). Like, Aoi is in a mainly Rise fic, but at the same time, Two Souls is still a 2012 crossover, and Aoi is 2012 Leo too.

Ofc, that is not my only reason why I voted Aoi or I want him to win, if I did, that would be too unfair and petty of me. I want Aoi to win for many other reasons (which I already gave some in those post(s). I am sorry WMAS and WMAS Future Leo though; I still love you. If I could I would have voted for both of you and/or if you weren't up against Aoi and some others maybe, you would have had my vote for sure. And if you win, well, that is awesome too. And both you and Two Souls Aoi would have won (to me). My main point of all this. It is that it would be cool to have a series that has a lot of 2012 elements win against a series that is just Rise).

Anyway, sorry for how rant-y and off-tangent-y this got. But polls have me feeling some ways (esp. when it comes to TMNT, but some other stuff too, besides TMNT). Though I still try to just have fun with them, and be positive/think positively and stuff.

I don't always succeed at that, but God, do I try.

Are there any lines or scenes in WMAS that you're really proud of that you wanna shed a spotlight on?

this is a hard question bc wmas is smth i like to call an ensamble fic (its literally just pov alternating) so it kiiiinda doesnt narrow ANYTHING down for me in terms of specific scenes.

(taken from ch 1) Uncle Michelangelo said that the old New York could be really pretty. There were so many lights that made the fog glow a brilliant color that makes everything magical. Quieter, he told Casey that there was always a person behind those lights. Someone was always adding to the beauty.

He takes his time turning around in place, seeing the tall battered buildings covered in bright colors of paint. Greenery of plants overtake the sides of buildings, framing the bright formless graffiti, the dull grey of concrete to something colorful. It clings to the bricks in a relentless enduring grasp of life. From the windows of the buildings shine lights through them. Multicolored, like they are the LCD screens from Times Square. It’s bright. There are no people, the city is in shambles, but it’s still alive. 

oh yeah the dreamscape is a fucking call back lads. and let me tell you there are more in the fic

Splinter had to think about death a lot recently. Forced to, really. He’s had to think about death a lot in his life in general! It clings to the very fiber of his being in a way where every bad coping mechanism looks just a little too tempting to take up on. Then the Shredder happened, something he thought was complete and utter bullshit that took his mother, seemingly, for no reason. The Hamato legacy he grew up to resent came back to haunt him with a ferocious force, and it hurt his boys.

Splinter was so adamant about giving her a second chance after the fight with Shredder. He saw himself in Cassandra in such a personal way that no one else in the family would get. He was willing to let Casey stick around close too. He saw himself in the Joneses that she can never really understand. April doesn’t know the full weight of what it’s like carrying a legacy. She shares that burden with the boys, but to bear it alone like Splinter did, like Casey has been, like Cassandra is doing now?  Fuck, man. How lonely does that feel?

The hovering and the mother-henning was annoying, sure, he'll give you that. The fact that he had to see how each of his family members grieve over the choice he had to make to save the world? Absolutely hellish, would not recommend. He can see how much it haunts Dad. He can see how much it weighed over his siblings. They all know that it was do or die. It doesn't make the choice any less harder to bear.

I listened to the Playlist, and my diagnosis as a music noob is WMAS Leo is a poor little wet meow meow.

Also I really liked the slow piano songs you added. Will WMAS Leo learn to play the piano to learn those old times songs? Idk now I just picture him playing the piano softly while it's raining to calm down and decompress.

I am sad OMO and WMAS/OMO and WMAS Leo lost; I love them both. Despite me wanting Aoi to win against WMAS Leo; I still love him and WMAS and wanted him to win at stuff. Like this poll. So sad he didn't.

Also.

Ofc both the Donnies won. So not only one Donnie in the finale, but two.

Of. Fricken. Course.

I love Donnie a lot, but I am legit getting kind of tired of him winning.

Honestly, I think a Leo or Mikey should have won. There was a lot of good Leos and Mikes, and I think they would deserve it.

Heck, I would welcomed a Raph or April winning, because I love them too, and at least in that case, a Donnie wouldn't have won.

Don't get me wrong, I love Donnie, and I love both Cass' Uncle Donnie and Ghost Donnie.

But this is getting genially tiring.

Donnie (or at least some versions of him) basically wins any poll (or at least a heck a lot of them) he gets put in, and it has became kinda unfair at this point.

Saying all that; congrats to the winners still. I am pretty disappointed by some of the results/the result(s), but I still had fun mostly, and I won't be petty. And don't want to be someone that vote against Donnie just because I am somewhat tired of him everything.
