My favorite part of Wolf Bride is when they give us the option to "leave Bastien" and the game completely ignores our choice and is like "too bad, you have to stay with him" MA'AM I thought this game was called Choices pls let me leave this man and his werewolf cult 😭

Also putting it out there I love werewolves the most in horror settings but also urban fantasy settings. But werewolf romance specifically doesn't rly interest me like BDSGS idk how 2 describe this one, I'm not aversed to werewolf LI's obviously, but I don't see myself reading a novel or comic that's centered around that? And if u put me in control over the next werewolf book it would revolve around hunters or a mc who got bitten and slowly turns into a monster. I don't think that'd work for Choices though LOL.

Between ages 6 - 12 I was the most into werewolves, after that I haven't rly been reading as much anymore and it stayed a more lowkey interest. But bc of Ripley I feel the obsession slowly coming back n I rly want to start reading novels again so maybe in a few months I'll do these reviews again because I'll have more to compare it to hahah.

Nightbound isn't a werewolf book TO ME like they advertised it like that but imo it's just a book that has werewolves in it. Like they kinda tricked me with tht one imo but I do love Nightbound tho. And that said I do like the nightbound werewolves the most, like I haven't played NB in years but just from what I remember they come closest to the kinda werewolves I like! Like they felt the most monstrous I guess? And like the wolf is separate from the person iirc?? Mb im talking out of my ass rn, I'm rly due for a replay lol.

+ Cal is my fave werewolf love interest out of all the werewolf LI's we have! Like I think especially now that there's other LI's to compare him to he feels rly refreshing to me + I like that he's not a pack alpha or whatever.

Bitten also feels less like a werewolf book to me bc it doesn'tvrevolve around werewolves, I do like Bitten but I also feel like they could've done smmmm more with it, like sometimes it just feels kinda empty or I want More but never get it lol. I think I love the concept of Bitten but am a bit disappointed by the execution? I skipped some diamond choices with ID 3 coming up so I prob missed some lore bbut like I mostly like the werewolves though! I like the approach of the fated mate thing in Bitten more than in Wolf Bride bc it never feels like it's being forced on mc or Skyler intends to force it on mc ig? I kinda wish they'd used the same wolf sprites as in Alpha though, bbut thts just bc I think they look bigger n better.

Umm Skyler is annoying but in a way that doesn't bother me much. In general I think they're a fun LI.

I rly like Alpha but at th same time I just don't have tht much to say about it regarding th werewolf stuff ig? I rllyyyy like the mc and I like Channing and I like the side characters a lot. The werewolf lore doesnt rly make me go like wooooow I love this or whatever. I did love the like whole struggle with rage that mc goes thru after turning though. And like the concept of like turning being a risk and some people opting out of that because u might lose urself.

I mostly disliked Wolf Bride like a lot of it I've just kinda forgotten about atp, but I'm not a fan of like the kidnapping and generally how Bastien treats the mc lol 💀. And like the stuff with abandoning disabled babies and stuff ughh.. And Bastien and Morgan turning out to be siblings hahahaha 😭😭 I also rlyyyy didn't like the bipedal wolf sprites which is FUNNY bc bipedal werewolves r my faves but like they looked rly silly 2 me and like they had 2 make it rly clear which wolves were GIRLS!!

I did like the powers u could collect n stuff tho, I didn't buy any bc I was diamond mining bbut I do always love collectibles like that lol.

Yeah this is exactly how I feel about it. It's just derivative and not uniquely bad. Bastien is incredibly predatory to MC moreso than most predatory LIs, sure, but like... pick up any erotic YA werewolf romance book, I'm 10000% sure the love interest will be identical to Bastien. Plus the story doesn't just brush it off IIRC so yeah.

Plus, I did think the non-romance storyline was decent and there was some interesting potential with it, as well as Morgan and her character.

It's by no means good, but it doesn't really stand out as uniquely awful either. It just kinda exists lol.

Worst Choices LI???

So I checked everyone’s least favorite LI on Reddit and with so many new VIP books out, I wanted to see who was everyone’s least favorite LI to deal with in any series and why? MC is also an option because lately, some of them are frustrating to play.

Bastien from Wolf Bride for hopefully obvious reasons. Dude gave me the ICK and couldn’t finish the book; books with one male and one female LI are questionable to me because the diamond choices often force us on the LIs we don’t want but we pick it to progress the story, which is so stupid to be honest. I can’t do Unbridled either because i don’t want Ryder but the diamond options contain a crumb for a better chapter outcome vs ignoring the diamond option for the worst outcome. I just want a werewolf book that isn’t Alpha because I’m currently unsure of how I feel about the writing and plot at the moment. I will restart so I can get better feels for it.

Worst LI award goes to Justin from Save the Date. Also not getting the option to tell the main brides of the story that you don’t want to be friends outside your MC’s job was a huge bummer for me. That whole ordeal was tedious and for mc to go above and beyond especially with an asshole cosplaying a love interest hounding you from the get go really disappointed me. I loved Lindsay but man, I wanted to tell the main clients to fuck off so badly lol 😂

I could write a novel on STD because I liked the story but the choices involving Justin pissed me off.

Ms Match or whatever it’s called threw me off immediately because of the competitiveness and I hated that Jackie from Open Heart was so competitive that she was letting it affect the relationship between MC & her. Open Heart was good though, I ended up picking Bryce and the character development was great. Just hate competitiveness between mc and LIs usually cause it can get ugly y’all. Hot Shot is getting me so riled up at MC and not Jordan that I do kinda want to see an ending where you choose not to be with them. I like that kind of dynamic with characters cause it feels real. I like what they’re doing there.

there are some other books with terrible LIs but I’d like to see where everyone else stands.

Passport to Romance was baaaad cause it felt like I was reading a book about nothing lol

Finished Wolf Bride this morning and… it was fine. I actually didn’t like Bastien for most of the book until my perspective on him changed and I ended up finding him a little more sympathetic.

Zane was… hrm. Idk. Okay.

Morgan was a pretty strong character consistently and she is one of my favorite characters <33

Isobel was fine. I really do wish we got to learn more/dig into her relationship with her mom cuz it was genuinely a fun spin on the pretty tired jealous girl trope.

Jett was also fine. Idk, his character felt a little muddled to me throughout the book and I’m honestly not sure how I feel about him.

Layla + Callum were cute!

I wanted so badly to bomb that conduct hearing, you know? I might have to replay Wolf Bride, just to enjoy doing terribly at being Bastien’s soul mate or whatever. I love consequences. I bet Bloodbound had consequences. I wonder if I should replay that and bomb everything.

On the subject of Bloodbound, given that we’ve had Bloodbound and we’ve had the high school vampires, I think we deserve a Carmilla story. We deserve it. I think Pixelberry owes the lesbians a Carmilla.

I hope pixelberry isn’t like Netflix and thinking I’m wrapping up Roommates with Benefits before other stories because I like it…reader, it is NOT good. I am diamond mining so I can enjoy BOLAS 2 and Guinevere later. Like I might not even open the ones I want to read but haven’t yet just to save diamonds for the good stuff.

(also fun fact: the word lunatic came from ppl believing people went crazy from love or something bc of the moonlight so thats why mc’s symbol is the moon :))

Welcome to the twenty-ninth official Cadybear's Reviews Brief Thoughts! Today I'll be talking about Wolf Bride, which I have ranked on the "Bronze Tier" at 5 stars out of a possible 10. My last and only playthrough of this was during October 2021-January 2022.

I actually have mixed feelings on this one. 

I did like the supernatural themes of the book, and even though “har har we must save the native peoples and the environment from the evil white businessmen” is such a done trope, it was mostly handled alright here. 

But I also just couldn’t get past the generic AF werewolf alpha romance themes here. I don’t even hate Bastien for his creepy possessiveness and “OMG we have le magical bond we must make babies” because… I swear you could pick up any werewolf themed YA romance novel and the werewolf LI would be practically identical to Bastien. Like, he’s less so infuriating, and moreso derivative in that regard. 

I also have very mixed feelings on how they handled the pack’s ableism. Like… I don’t know, there’s just something kind of wrong about the default name for Layla’s newborn blind baby being after a pack leader who enforced an ableist pack protocol that almost got Morgan killed. I know we can choose the baby’s name but still. 

It has some enjoyable qualities, and it’s not quite uniquely terrible. But it’s still painfully derivative and overall just below average.

The wolf LIs in Nightbound and Wolf Bride are worlds apart. It’s like Cal is a human who turns into a wolf and Bastien is a wolf who turn into a human. How anyone can even say they’re the same is baffling to me.
