Name: Artemis "Arte" Ryan Occupation: Mechanic at Palmer & Sons / Alpha of the Eventide Pack Age: 28 Sexuality: Lesbian Pronouns: They/them Species: (Born) Werewolf Clan/Pack/Coven: Eventide Pack Hometown: Chicago, Illinois Relationship Status: They're Confused Personality Traits: Protective, determined, feral, anxious, observant
Biography (tw: pack massacre, torture, dehumanization)
Their life begins and ends when they are fourteen. Finally old enough to participate in the carefully regulated hunts that their father sets up each month as the Alpha of the pack, to ensure that they never lose their edge as wolves. That was the purpose of these activities. To have the trained show the young how to hunt, how to survive in a world that could be hostile. The prey this time? Just some moose that have been herded nearby, animals that could still be dangerous to an inexperienced wolf, but nothing like a hunter or a vampire. The Pack has hunted them too in the past, as the occasional reminder that they are not to be underestimated. The balance of nature was maintained, but in the modern age, they had grown complacent.
Hunters take their camp while they are away, massacring the elderly and the pups who are too young to join (where Arte would have been one month prior), and the few warriors left to guard them, corpses cooling in the darkness. The message is evident: total annihilation.
They realize something is wrong when they don't revert to human form at dawn. When the Pack returns to the camp, the scent of blood rises in the air, and they realize too late that it's an ambush. A spell circle keeps them all trapped in a clearing, and a hunter steps forward. Arte can see his gun glinting at his hip and they let out a nervous whine that is swallowed up by the rest of the Pack. Arte sees their father step forward, his wolf regal and majestic in the moonlight, and they watch as he is shot dead. It's the only signal given before gunshots ring out from every direction. Muzzle flashes decorate the trees, and the dying yelps of wolves fill the air.
A bullet grazes along their muzzle, and their voice is added to the cacophony as silver burns them, and they stumble. Before they can get to their feet once more, the body of one of their pack members collapses on top of them, pinning them to the ground under his corpse. They whine, fighting to be freed, which only attracts the attention of the hunters. However, instead of putting a bullet through their head and freeing them of their misery, they take them as a prize. The last thing they see as they are dragged away are the dead bodies of their pack, some thirty or forty wolves cut down gruesomely.
The initial curse that kept them trapped in their wolf form still lingers. Even with night turns to day and back to night again, Arte remains four-legged and at the mercy of Brotherhood hunters, who use them as a way to develop new weapons to use against others of their kind.
For 12 years, they live as a wolf, only turning back to a human once a month for the short hours when a full moon has risen, a perverse twisting of the original curse. Almost three of those years are spent under the hands of Lucian Goodwin, a scientist who is sadistic than even the fiercest wolves in their pack. He pulls Arte apart and puts them back together, largely for his own amusement and also to test new weaknesses on their body. They are part-prisoner and part-pet, and he would not let them die.
Arte escapes under cover of darkness, slipping out through an unlocked door out of sheer desperation. If they were caught, they would be punished, but it couldn’t be worse than what they had already been through. After their escape, they mostly wander about North America, though they make a few trips further south in hopes of finding answers for their curse. They stay in an area for as long as they are tolerated, but eventually, inevitably, they are chased away, either by humans or hunters or other supernatural creatures who want nothing to do with a lone, scarred wolf who is not the same as the others.
Port Leiry is just one more stop on an endless list of them, except when Arte crosses the town line, their bones twist and snap, and they are reverted back to human form. They feel the sunlight on their bare skin for the first time in twelve years and manage to find their way to the city. They can sense the magic and supernatural draw from its inhabitants, though they've never experienced a world that coexists quite like this.
The Eventide Pack takes them in, a few of them taking pity on the clearly lost and bewildered wolf. They learn that the story of the Ryan Pack has been used as something of a boogeyman for wolf packs over the last decade. The pack helps them adjust, born and turned wolves alike, helps them find a job at Palmer & Sons, first as a receptionist but eventually as an assistant mechanic. Engines and motors made more sense to them than other people did and they found a solace in fixing cars and motorcycles.
The Game So Far
Seven months after they arrived in the city, Arte was slowly beginning to accept that this may be something of a permanent home for them. No one seemed intent on chasing them away, and they can live somewhat of a normal life within Port Leiry. For now, it's all they've ever dreamed of, but they are also coming to realize that living among society also comes with way more complications than being alone in the woods.
For starters, the Eventide Pack had been a shaky foundation, with multiple wolves trying their hand at Alpha, and not working out for one reason or another. Their numbers dwindled, with people seeking out stability in one of the other packs instead. Petrified at the thought of losing yet another community, Arte stepped forward, hoping to keep the remnants of their ragtag group together long enough for someone more qualified to step in.
However, as months passed, no one seemed inclined to want to take challenge that from them, and Arte slowly began to fall into the role of a leader whether they wanted it or not. They still have much to learn, and are caught between the politics of existing packs while trying to maintain a safe community for the wolves under their care, which now includes a new wolf that they had accidentally turned while trying to save her life.
Plot Ideas
Lone Wolves / Packless Wolves - When it comes to Eventide, Arte hopes to create a place free of traditional hierarchies. Wolves who seek out a more traditional experience are welcome to join any of the other packs, but those who tend not to fit in elsewhere can still always find a peanut butter granola bar or a spare mattress in the Alley. Arte’s philosophy when it comes to Eventide is described in further detail here.
Other Supernatural Leaders - So far in the game, Arte has deliberately kept themself and Eventide outside of the wider politics, but that is an untapped source of influence for anyone who has the patience to work with them. They may be naive to social cues, but their instincts are primed for survival.
Clients at Palmers - For as much trouble Arte has with people, they have a natural affinity for engines. Don’t ask them to explain what exactly they did, but Arte has a knack for making things run again.
Making the Rounds - Arte makes frequent visits to the Cliffsides and New Moonlight to see if they can meet anyone who is new to town who may need a helping hand. They find it’s a good way to keep on top of what people are talking about, and hearing about people who generally fall through the cracks of society.
Connections
The Witch (Chamomile Greensmith) - The Ironwood Coven is responsible for a temporary alliance with the Brotherhood that led to the eradication of the Ryan Pack and Cham helped originate the curse that still afflicts Arte to this day.
The Nightmare (Cam McCormick) - Cam was involved in the massacre and wielded the gun that killed their father. Arte frequently has nightmares about him.
The Captor (Lucian Goodwin) - When Arte was taken captive by the Brotherhood, they were handed over to Lucian. With Arte still under the effects of the curse, Lucian used their wolf form to his advantage, and is the reason for almost all of the scars that cover Arte’s body, including the ones on their face and the lack of vision in their right eye.
The Wolf Son (Autumn Howell) - While caught in the throes of paranoia during the full moon, Arte causes an accident when they dart out into the middle of the road. They pull the driver out, effectively saving her life, but marking her as a monster all the same.
The Warmth (Skylar Park) - One of the first wolves that Arte approached about joining Eventide, even if it has been slow going. They couldn’t tell you what made them keep walking back into that cat cafe despite Skylar’s rebuffs, but they can tell you they don’t regret it.
The Childhood Friend (Flick Van Brunt) - As heirs to local packs, Arte and Flick had been betrothed, though this arrangement fell through after the Ryan Pack was attacked. Reuniting in Port Leiry was a happy coincidence, and Arte would be devastated to lose her fire again.

Skoll "One Who Mocks" and Hati "One Who Hates" are two wolves in the sky, chasing Sol and Mani (sun and the moon) in an endless cycle. As dawn breaks, Skoll begins his pursuit with a terrifying howl. As dusk begins, Hati chases the moon with blinding speed across the celestial body. And so, the cycle is complete and resets. Until the end of days, Ragnarök, this dance continues, until finally the wolves would catch their prey and bring darkness to the world.
Skoll, with eyes as bright as fire, and fur as white as snow Heralded the coming of dawn, and the start of a new day's flow Hati, with eyes as dark as night, and fur as black as coal Heralded the Coming of dusk, and the end of the day's toll
Skoll, the embodiment of hope, and Hati, the embodiment of fate Together they chase the celestial orbs, that define the cyclical state Of the world, in a never-ending cycle, that has been set in motion By the gods, in a cosmic dance, that has been their devotion
They are the embodiment of fate, the bringers of the end, The ones who will devour the very stars, when the world shall bend. And though we may fear their approach, and tremble at their might, We cannot help but be in awe of Skoll and Hati's endless flight.

A confusing clusterfuck of thoughts re: Jonsa
Or: why the fuck are Jon and Sansa so compatible if they're not canon, huh?
He saw the Wall shining like blue crystal, and his bastard brother Jon sleeping alone in a cold bed, his skin growing pale and hard as the memory of all warmth fled from him. - Bran III AGOT
So....Jon is going to lose memory of all warmth? I'm going to separate the changes brought about in post-resurrection!Jon here as changes caused by death and changes caused by Ghost. This post is only speculating about the changes caused by death i.e. loss of memory of all warmth.
More foreshadowing for that-
Chunks of coal burned in iron braziers at either end of the long room, but Jon found himself shivering. The chill was always with him here. In a few years he would forget what it felt like to be warm. - Jon III AGOT
"It was. The fort is in a sorry state, admittedly. You will restore it as best you can..." ... You'll sleep on stone, too exhausted to complain or plot, and soon you'll forget what it was like to be warm, but you might remember what it was to be a man. - Jon II ADWD
So, I did a word search for warm and memory and I found some interesting stuff. Read under the cut.
1. Home
Jon- warmth and memory of home
The memory of her laughter warmed him on the long ride north. - Jon II AGOT (thinking about Arya)
The weariness came on him suddenly... So cold, he thought, remembering the warm halls of Winterfell, where the hot waters ran through the walls like blood through a man's body. There was scant warmth to be found in Castle Black... - Jon III AGOT
...Iron Emmett was still urging on his charges in the yard. The song of steel on steel woke a hunger in Jon. It reminded him of warmer, simpler days, when he had been a boy at Winterfell matching blades with Robb under the watchful eye of Ser Rodrik Cassel. Ser Rodrik too had fallen, slain by Theon Turncloak... All my memories are poisoned. - Jon VI ADWD
The warmth took some of the ache from his muscles and made him think of Winterfell's muddy pools, steaming and bubbling in the godswood. Winterfell, he thought. Theon left it burned and broken, but I could restore it.-Jon XII ASOS
So, these are the memories of warmth he'll lose? This warmth, that he associates with Winterfell (and the Starks), is the first memory of warmth Jon has.
Dany- memory of home
The door loomed before her, the red door, so close, so close, the hall was a blur around her, the cold receding behind... and all that lived and breathed fled in terror from the shadow of her wings. She could smell home, she could see it, there, just beyond that door, green fields and great stone houses and arms to keep her warm, there. She threw open the door.
"… the dragon …" - Daenerys IX AGOT
Home? The word made her feel sad. Ser Jorah had his Bear Island, but what was home to her? A few tales, names recited as solemnly as the words of a prayer, the fading memory of a red door … was Vaes Dothrak to be her home forever? - Daenerys VI AGOT
..."What shall we talk of?"
"Home," said Dany. "Naath. Butterflies and brothers. Tell me of the things that make you happy, the things that make you giggle, all your sweetest memories. Remind me that there is still good in the world."
Missandei did her best. She was still talking when Dany finally fell to sleep, to dream queer, half-formed dreams of smoke and fire. - Daenerys VIII ADWD
Dany's idea of 'home' changes over the course of the books. In the beginning she uses home for Illyrio's house, or the house with the red door. She very clearly doesn't think of Westeros as her home. After Viserys's death however, there's a sudden shift. Now, Westeros is her long lost home that she must return to someday. It's jarring. Interestingly enough, she pretty clearly rejects the idea of Dothraki khalasars as home, and the only time she calls Meereen home is in her last chapter of ADWD where she's trying to convince herself to return there. But we know that she ultimately rejects that too, in the same chapter.
Sansa- memory of home
Snow was falling on the Eyrie.
Outside the flakes drifted down as soft and silent as memory. Was this what woke me? Already the snowfall lay thick... The sight took Sansa back to cold nights long ago, in the long summer of her childhood. - Sansa VII ASOS
Last of all came the Royces, Lord Nestor and Bronze Yohn... Though his hair was grey and his face lined, Lord Yohn still looked as though he could break most younger men like twigs in those huge gnarled hands. His seamed and solemn face brought back all of Sansa's memories of his time at Winterfell. - Alayne I AFFC
She missed Septa Mordane, and even more Jeyne Poole, her truest friend... She tried not to think of them too often, yet sometimes the memories came unbidden, and then it was hard to hold back the tears. Once in a while, Sansa even missed her sister. By now Arya was safe back in Winterfell... - Sansa II ACOK
Arya coz why not
"Let me tell you something about wolves, child. When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives. Summer is the time for squabbles. In winter, we must protect one another, keep each other warm, share our strengths.… Sansa is your sister. You may be as different as the sun and the moon, but the same blood flows through both your hearts. You need her, as she needs you …" - Arya II AGOT
Needle was Robb and Bran and Rickon, her mother and her father, even Sansa. Needle was Winterfell's grey walls, and the laughter of its people. Needle was the summer snows, Old Nan's stories, the heart tree with its red leaves and scary face, the warm earthy smell of the glass gardens, the sound of the north wind rattling the shutters of her room. Needle was Jon Snow's smile. He used to mess my hair and call me "little sister," she remembered, and suddenly there were tears in her eyes. - Arya II AFFC
Again, all this (and much more) is stuff that reminds Sansa (and Arya) of home. This is, presumably, shit that Jon is gonna forget. Or maybe he'll retain the memories and only lose the emotions (warmth) associated with it?
2. Suitors or romantic/sexual partners (+Ben Plumm)
Jon
Many a night he lay with Ygritte warm beside him,... - Jon V ASOS
So, Ygritte becomes his second memory of warmth.
When he turned he saw Ygritte.
...cloaked in darkness and in memory. The light of the moon was in her hair, her red hair kissed by fire. When he saw that, Jon's heart leapt into his mouth. "Ygritte," he said.
"Lord Snow." The voice was Melisandre's.
Surprise made him recoil from her. "Lady Melisandre." He took a step backwards. "I mistook you for someone else." At night all robes are grey. - Jon VI ADWD
AT NIGHT ALL ROBES ARE GREY...yea I know, this is a well established connection between the Girl in Grey and Ygritte. Since Jon associates Ygritte with warmth so strongly, I think it's safe to assume that the Girl in Grey might play a role in warming him too (hehe).
… one hears queer talk of dragons."
"Would that we had one here. A dragon might warm things up a bit."
"My lord jests. You will forgive me if I do not laugh. We Braavosi are descended from those who fled Valyria and the wroth of its dragonlords. We do not jape of dragons." - Jon IX ADWD
Yikes.
Dany
"If my queen commands," he (Jorah) said, curt and cold.
Dany was warm enough for both of them. "She does," she said. "She commands...
When he was gone, Dany threw herself down on her pillows beside her dragons. She had not meant to be so sharp with Ser Jorah, but his endless suspicion had finally woken her dragon. - Daenerys IV ASOS
So, here the warmth is because of anger (woken the dragon).
Dany could feel the warmth of his fingers. He was warm in Qarth as well, she recalled, until the day he had no more use for me. She rose to her feet. "Come," she said, and Xaro followed her through the pillars... - Daenerys III ADWD
She remembered Ben's face the last time she had seen it. It was a warm face, a face I trusted... Even the dragons had been fond of old Brown Ben, who liked to boast that he had a drop of dragon blood himself. Three treasons will you know. Once for gold and once for blood and once for love. Was Plumm the third treason, or the second? And what did that make Ser Jorah, her gruff old bear? Would she never have a friend that she could trust?- Daenerys VI ADWD
This is twice that Dany associates warmth with people who use/betray her.
"You're hurt," she gasped.
"This?" Daario touched his temple. "A crossbowman tried to put a quarrel through my eye, but I outrode it. I was hurrying home to my queen, to bask in the warmth of her smile." He shook his sleeve, spattering red droplets. - Daenerys VI ADWD
Dawn always came too soon.
...If only she had the power, she would have made their nights go on forever, but the best that she could do was stay awake to try and savor every last sweet moment before daybreak turned them into no more than fading memories....
Dany wrapped her arms around her captain and pressed herself against his back. She drank in the scent of him, savoring the warmth of his flesh, the feel of his skin against her own. Remember, she told herself. Remember how he felt. - Daenerys VII ADWD
Ok, I forgot how smitten Dany was with Daario. It would be cute if Daario wasn't so horrifying. Girl has some seriously questionable taste.
Interestingly, the phrase 'fading memory' is used four times in the text (as far as I can find) and three of those times are in Daenerys's POV. One is in the above quote, where she's commanding herself to remember her time with Daario before her marriage to Hizdahr, and the other time is while thinking about the red door. Both these are memories that are important to her, that connect her to the hopeful/little/not-dark girl she once was.
Sansa
Gently, he spoke of Braavos, and met a wall of sullen courtesy as icy and unyielding as the Wall he had walked once in the north. - Tyrion VIII ASOS
"I am composing a new song, you should know. A song so sweet and sad it will melt even your frozen heart. 'The Roadside Rose,' I mean to call it. About a baseborn girl so beautiful she bewitched every man who laid eyes upon her." - Sansa VII ASOS
"Alayne." Her aunt's singer stood over her. "Sweet Alayne. I am Marillion. I saw you come in from the rain. The night is chill and wet. Let me warm you." - Sansa VI ASOS
You must be very cold. Let me warm you, Sansa. Take off those gloves, give me your hands." - Sansa VII ASOS
Yea no. Sansa has not had a good experience with people offering to warm her (unfreeze her? melt her?)
Looks like in TWOW there's going to be two people in desperate need of some warming.
It's pretty neat actually. Jon associates memories of warmth with two things primarily: Winterfell/the Starks, and Ygritte. Sansa is both a Stark, and a much (much) improved Ygritte.
Sansa's iciness-wall-armour is a form of protection that she employs against predatory men. The only person who can melt her frozen heart...is someone who is not predatory. Someone who cares for her. Jon.
It fits perfectly. They fit perfectly.

Hi everyone! I've been compiling a list of songs for @shepherds-of-haven , an awesome creation that belongs to Lena Nguyen. I picked the songs either thanks to the lyrics or just the overall vibe.
I've seen at least two other SoH playlists. One was a Blade List by Aersidhe on Spotify. If Aersidhe or the other person who made the Blade/Halek playlist had it on theirs when I saw them, I put an asterisk. I can't take credit for those!
Please, give me a shout out if you made the Blade/Halek playlist or know who did and I'll credit you/them, too! I can't find it now...
Many of the songs are general ShoH, but I start off with a Chapter 7 playlist. I don't talk spoilers, but the songs could clue you in a bit.
Some of them might have a bit of inappropriate language or content.
Feel free to comment and also to suggest more!

Alcide hugged you as soon as the door was opened. “Alcide! It’s nice to see you too.” You said. Your voice was muffled against his shoulder as he squeezed you. Eventually letting you down.
“It’s been so long! You said you had an emergency.” He explained and smiled when you nodded.
“It’s a werewolf problem.” You said as you glanced around and pulled him inside. The last thing you needed was the nosy old bag from next door overhearing.
“Like, you’re a werewolf now or…?”
“Oh! No, not me. My nephews. They’re real little but apparently. One the last full moon. They turned into wolves and my sister is sending them here. I don’t know if they’re werewolves or shifters or… oh gee they could be anything I guess. I would ask Sam but he’s away and, well, Sookie has all those vamps around her. I suppose. Well I just thought maybe you could help for a while, just a few days. Until they settle in.” You explained and Alcide smiled.
“I don’t mind helping you pup sit. It’ll make a nice change to the usual favours people ask me to do.” He said cheerfully.
“Oh Alcide you are a lifesaver. They’ve already eaten me out of house and home, they were running rings around Arlene. You know how my sister is. She just turned up at the crack of dawn, unloaded them, no shoes still in their pajamas and started hollering about werewolves. I don’t have a phone number for her or an address or anything. The last time I saw the youngest he was newborn.” You started blabbering on until you paused and your eyes went wide. “They’ve gone quiet!”
Alcide hurried after you as you rushed to your yard. Jason Stackhouse had built a fence all around the yard one summer way back when you were in school with Sookie. Your sister had tried to run off with him that same summer and Sookie had told you that she was surprised to find anyone more of a flake than Jason.
“They couldn't have got out! The yards fence in!” You said quickly as you started looking for them.
“They probably squeezed through here.” Alcide said. He pointed to a small hole he’d crouched next to. “If they’re turning into wolves like your sister said they couldn’t be very big, they’re young.”
“What’re the chances that all three with different fathers are all werewolves?” You asked uncertainly.
“Maybe it’s on your side?” Alcide offered as he started stripping. You turned away, catching the clothes he tossed at you as he shifted.
Tumblr media
“I know we have two witches and a psychic. No wolves or shifters though. Unless my sister has a type.” You said to the wolf that was now looking up at you. He sniffled softly before heading to the back gate. You unlocked it so he could squeeze through. “I’ll wait here in case they come back and I’ll leave the back gate open for you.” You called after him.
****************
“(Y/N)!” Sookie said as she let herself into the house.
“Sook! I need your help for a second.” You called from upstairs. You heard her running up the carpeted stairs and she reached up to grab some of the blankets that had been in your arms.
“You said your sister abandoned the boys again!” Sookie said as you climbed down from the airing cupboards top shelf with a few pillows.
“Well Mom and Pop aren’t around anymore so they’re stuck with me. Apparently they started turning into wolves and she couldn’t cope.” You explained. “All three. Did you call Sam?”
“Yup, all three. I tried but he won't be back until the end of the week, which totally sucks but, luckily Alcide came. He’s out looking for the boys, he’s been gone a while. I’m sure they’re all fine but I’m starting to worry.” You admitted. Sookie sighed as she followed you, letting out a low whistle letting you know she didn’t envy you one bit.
“I’ll call Sam later and see if he has any advice for you. Arlene said the boys were wild earlier.”
You hummed in agreement as she helped you set up the spare room for Alcide. Your sister’s old room would have to squeeze in all three of the boys for now. “I don’t mind looking after them. I don’t. I’m sure we’ll all figure out how to deal with whatever this wolf thing is, which, i might add you. I have yet to see with my own eyes. I just hate to let them down. I’m gonna have to juggle working and then tracking down their mom. Poor Alcide came down here and I’m sure he was hoping for a quick punch up and a scenic trip home.” You said to Sookie who gave you a sympathetic hug.
“Me and Jason will help out, Bill too, once the wolf thing is under control you just know Tara will be happy to help too, she just loves the oldest two and she’ll be dying to meet the little one. He hasn’t been round here since your momma made your sister come home to have him.” Sookie said as she pulled away.
You both hurried to the window when you heard a ruckus outside. Jason was walking up the drive, Alcide chasing two smaller pups that were darting all over the place. The youngest sat on one of Jason’s shoulders, wearing his shirt like which fell long past his feet. “There see, they found them. One less thing to worry about.” Sookie said encouragingly.
“Oh my stars! You were all gone for so long I was worried.” You said as you rushed down the stairs, taking your youngest nephew from Jason who was promptly tackled by a pup. Alcide sloped off to excuse himself, dragging his pile of clothes with him.
“Yeah, this one ran in front of my car starkers. Had the fight of my life. Then I saw these two chasing him. Then I recognised the big dog that followed. Sookie said something about them being shifters or whatever. What’d your sister get into?” Jason said as he ruffled the fur of the largest wolf who was sniffing at him.
“Who knows.” You sighed and thanked Sookie who had hurried into the hall to fetch a bag of kids clothes Arlene had gathered for you from people around town.
“The oldest is definitely a were.” Alcide said as he came back, now dressed. “The younger two could just be shifters that imprinted and seem like werewolves because they’re mimicking their brother.”
“How do we figure out… what they are?” You asked nervously.
“We wait until they’re older and ask Sam.” Alcide said quickly. He started wrestling with the small wolf pup as he took a seat on the sofa.
“Well, how do we turn them back? We can’t just have a bunch of wolves running around in broad daylight.” Jason pointed out.
“You’ll have to wait for them to want to turn back.” Alcide explained and you nodded.
“I have just the thing.” You said decisively. You hurried out of sight and came back with three chocolate bars. Immediately the boys changed back and Sookie helped you wrangle them into the new clothes.
****************
“Thanks for your help today.” You said to Alcide. He paused, having been washing up the dinner plates. Sookie had insisted on take out, when Laffayette and Tara heard the boys were back they wanted to see the rascals for themselves. It had ended in a family style dinner, with take out from all the places that were open.
It took two and a half hours and a phone call from Arlene to get the boys to sleep. By the time that was over everyone was ready to get home and rest up for work the next day. “It’s no problem… but I do have to run back home for some things.” Alcide said quickly.
“Oh! You don’t… don’t have to stay if you… There’s a room made up but…” You started saying and he shook his head.
“I’ll be back, I just packed for… Well I didn’t pack. I figured I’d be running an unwanted wolf out of town. I um. I figured I’d stick around for as long as you’ll have me. It’s hard enough for a pack to deal with lots of pups. Never mind one human. Not that you couldn't handle it alone. I just.. What kind of friend would I be if I abandoned you now.” He laughed a little and smiled at you as you started helping him clear the dining room.
“Thanks Alcide.” You said and hugged him quickly.
“I shouldn’t be long, I’ll just need a few tools and clothes, it should only take an hour or so.”
“You should take these. House keys, Sookie left hers. She said she’d share Tara’s copy so we don’t have to cut any extras.” You explained quickly as you held out a set of keys on a keychain with a sparkly pink heart.
Once Alcide was gone you finished tidying up, setting things in piles that you could deal with the next day, you finally decided you had done enough and flopped down onto the sofa. You knew you should trudge up to bed but now you’d sat down you couldn’t be bothered to move. “A few minutes with my eyes closed won't hurt.” You mumbled to yourself.
Alcide had taken longer to pack up than he’d meant to. He was overthinking and he knew it. He’d met you through your sister. More specifically. He had met you when you turned up in a werewolf bar when you were all younger and had dragged her out. He’d dropped her home a few times after that. Your father hated him and decided he was the reason for your sister running away for days on end and dropping out of school. Your mother was more than happy that someone was willing to run her back home every time your sister passed out in a bar she’d managed to sneak into.
When you were all younger he’d daydream about what it’d be like to end up with you. When you’d invited him to a party and introduced Jason as your best friend’s brother, he assumed that you’d end up dating Jason. He felt nervous. More nervous than he had the night he’d almost kissed you for the first time after you snuck him into your house to celebrate your graduation.
Tumblr media
By the time he’d pulled himself out of his head Alcide had realised he’d packed up everything in his apartment into his truck. He repeated to himself that he was helping you because he was a good were, no human could handle three growing pups alone and Sookie meant well but you needed his help. It didn’t mean anything more. He would be a good friend, no feelings mixing things up.
He would help you handle the mess your sister had dumped on you and when Sam Merlotte got back into town you wouldn’t need him anymore and he would step aside. Because he was your friend, he’d been your best friend at one point, you’d told him everything. He let himself into the house as quietly as he could and paused in the hallway, setting down the few bags he’d need in the morning. He smiled as he saw you, asleep, uncomfortably sprawled upright on the sofa. After looking at you for a moment he sighed. Crossing the room he lifted you into his arms and carried you up to bed. He set you down gently and kissed your forehead as he pulled the blankets around you.
“Only as long as she needs me, nothing more, no feelings just helping your friend.” Alcide whispered to himself under his breath as he pulled away from you and shuffled out of the room, closing the door as gently as he could.
He looked up to see three curious faces starting at him from round the doorway down the hall. “Alright, let's get you back to bed.” He said with a fond smile.

painful | leona/diana fic
Sometimes, you run away because something is frightening. It makes your heart beat like a drum roll, eyes widen and legs start moving before you can process the ghastly sight before you.
Sometimes, you run away because something is a lost cause. It’s impossible to save, best left to the wolves and devoured in moments.
Sometimes, you run away because something is simply too much to handle, and you need help. In the face of this newfound threat, perhaps the original problem may flee just as you did.
Sometimes, you run away because something is painful.
She couldn’t bear it. The look in her eyes- of hope, of the stars, of the moon reflecting down into the yellow; all she could see is love. And it was painful, as she kissed her behind some drapery, to know that this is a woman who could never understand her truly. She could not see, for all the warmth in her eyes, the value in the pale kiss of the moon’s light.
“It suits you, I must admit.” She said that, while they were dancing. “The moon cherishes you like you are its child, more than I have ever seen the sun embrace you.”
It hurt to know she was right. It hurt to know that she could see that- the gentle moonlight’s caress, feeling more empowering than any blazing bright sky- but she was so, so blind to the indoctrination and zealotry turned militarism of the other guests. Of their parents, who were in disarray trying to get their perfect daughter to stop consorting such a troublemaker; of the instructors, who looked at Diana with disdain and Leona with concern and pity for having been entrapped into the siren’s song.
The adults are always correct, she thinks, just as they are now. But not in the way they think. She is no serpent tempting someone with the fruit of knowledge, but a mermaid truly looking for companionship who never realized she would have to depart back into the sea and forever leave the lover she had so deeply grown to love. In that way she is truly a siren who shall tempt this poor girl into a love that cannot last.
Was, anyway.
Leona stands at the edge of the cliff, looking outward. Her armor is stripped but Diana would recognize her anywhere, anyplace, anytime. Her signature resolve has turned into melancholy, now, some kind of sorrow painting the highlights of her eyes and the shadows cast by her hair. Fuzzier than in the day, because the moon is kind even to her detractors.
“Diana.”
“Leona.”
Nothing is said for a while longer. This, too, is painful, in another way; in knowing this cannot be fate, that whatever happens one blade will be at the other’s throat and someone will say it is for their patron celestial body and the other will die, knowing, remembering that they were the weaker of the two to their own desires.
Why shouldn’t she have something? She’s an Aspect, the kind of person who should be able to fulfill her own desires. And perhaps the earthly she does, good food and water provided to her in spades she could not possibly indulge in proper; Leona stands at the cliff, seemingly remorseful, and thinks before speaking.
It reminds her of Debate.
“Two of our kind once stood here. One of the sun, and of the moon.”
“I am aware.”
“The two ascended and became stars.”
“I watched.”
“I know.”
She turns to Diana. “What says we have to fight?”
“Your people. Mine, now, though perhaps they could be calmed. Yours will never tire.”
“They could be convinced.”
“You could not be convinced.”
Leona whirls around, eyes wide. “Diana.”
She moves forward. This, too, is painful, in the sense that she has to stand there and consider what the dawn is going to do. Perhaps she’ll move forward, stop, continue speaking; embrace her, hug, love her as she did that night so long ago; stab her, claim the quarry of the sun under the light of the moon. She thinks maybe she’d let her, and that would be painful, too.
“Have you not realized?”
The hand against her cheek is warm, so warm, in a way that Diana is usually running a bit cold even when it’s rather temperate outside. Leona has always been a hearth made of warmth and love and something more, even in the moment where she tried to start proselytize to her about the Sun and her light or whatever nonsense. Even then Diana had understood: this is not a lashing out because she is terrible or an agent of hate or a mere sheep; this is a lashing out because I cannot endure the pain of knowing.
That, too, was painful. The lashing out, the punishment. This, too, is painful. The knowledge of the moon and the sun and all the things cosmically significant in the sky.
“I- ever since I saw you under the moonlight I knew. I knew there must be some merit to the moon, no matter what I thought, because no one so perfect could be so perfectly embraced by it so.”
She hugs Diana. This, too, is painful, because she never wants to let go.
“I could be convinced. It took a woman perfect and a hole in my heart but I finally understood- maybe not empathized, but understood.”
“You kill Lunari by the hundreds. If there are that many of us left.”
“I kill because I have no choice, you know that. If I were to waver the sunlight would become too harsh, I think.”
“So much for a kind Sun.”
“Did you not always argue such?”
“Don’t-”
And she looks her in the eyes, sees desperation for closeness and an earnestness that never went away and a love that has always flourished despite the barren wasteland it was given and she sighs. She wants to argue more, get her to understand; but no matter.
This, too, is painful.

Methods of Control
ok so I know this isn’t one of the prompts I have aging in my ask box like fine wine, but I couldn’t get this out of my head and frankly I’m just ecstatic that I finished anything before the new year. Thanks to those who have been hangin in there! It’s been rough, so I hope this brings some enjoyment -
“I’m gonna head out with Skye,” Jayde told me after arming up with a hidden pistol in the waistband of her jeans. Even after years of encountering various threats, I thought it was a little overkill to be packing heat for a simple errand run into town. “I shouldn’t be gone for more than a couple hours, but if you need me, don’t hesitate to call, okay?”
“I want to go with you,” I pleaded once more. I haven’t set foot off the Lodge’s property since before I was bitten. The outside world called to me.
Jayde tenderly cupped my face and stroked my cheeks, soothing some of my wild spirit. “Soon, my love. We gotta get a handle on your control first.”
Eager to make my case, I pulled her hands away. “I’ve been making progress. I’m getting better at shifting on command and my emotions haven’t gotten away from me since the full moon.”
She nodded, though still looked troubled. “You’ve been doing great, but you don’t know what it’s like to be surrounded by humans. It’s different than wolves, Nadya. All it takes is one moment of feeling overwhelmed or trapped. I don’t want you to have to go through that, especially after everything you’ve been through.”
“You don’t think I can handle it.”
“Come on, you know it’s not that simple.”
“Then explain it to me.”
Jayde sighed. Then after a beat, she reached down and took both of my hands in hers. Our eyes locked as she placed my palms against her cheeks. We shared a quiet moment holding each other’s gazes in anticipation, her thumbs caressing the curves of my wrists. Just as I was about to lose patience and open my mouth, her irises ignited with the familiar golden fire of her wolf. As soon as I saw those eyes flash, her body temperature spiked against my palms to the intense heat of a shift. A brief tremor shook her whole form, bringing forth the strong scent of the animal awakening just underneath the surface of her skin.
She held us there for a full minute, patiently allowing me to sense everything that happened in her body. Then the invisible presence retreated. Her eyes returned to their usual midnight blue. Her temperature lowered a few degrees. Her twitching muscles relaxed. An exhale of release escaped her lips and it finally dawned on me that summoning her wolf took effort. All these years I thought it was a skill that came as naturally to her as any other that she was born with.
“See?” she asked with a knowing smile.
My brows furrowed in thought and I reluctantly dropped my hands. “Kind of.”
“I think you should learn how to do that before we take you out there.”
“My eyes already glow all the time.”
“But is it ever intentional apart from when you shift on command?”
I pursed my lips. “No.”
“Exactly,” Jayde said. “When you feel a little too much of something and your eyes glow, it’s involuntary. Your wolf has the control there. What I did just now was bring the wolf out on my terms. It’s the same as triggering a shift. You get that power surge, you feel your senses heighten. Only difference is I don’t let it take over. Keeping that balance is the challenge. That’s the kind of discipline you need to learn.”
As disappointed as it made me, I knew she was right. “Okay, I understand.”
Her finger tapped under my chin and she placed a warm peck to my lips. The fact that I could kiss her now without having my whole world shift from desire should be the real testament to my control. “Don’t worry, you’ll get there in no time. How about we work on it when I get home?”
I managed to smile. “Don’t take too long.”
“I won’t unless there’s a long line for the bed frames.”
A part of me wanted to tell her not to bother. I didn’t think a new one would last very long, if the previous full moon taught me anything. “Do they make werewolf proof bed frames, you think?”
Jayde’s grin became crooked. “Can’t hurt to ask.”
“Be safe, Jay.”
“I will.”
My hand went to the back of her neck to pull her in for a goodbye kiss. This time, our lips lingered. I seized every opportunity to indulge in all the things my heightened senses could soak up. It didn’t require much. A simple stroke of her mouth against mine brought enough sensations to get consumed by. I felt her so acutely. The warmth of a delicate breath. A taste of sweetness. Skipped beats of her heart that reflected my own pulse. Lips so soft I could forget they belonged to a formidable fighter.
My wolf stirred with a light growl at the back of my throat.
“Now I definitely won’t take long,” she hummed, giving in and parting my lips with hers.
After I became a werewolf, Jayde’s kisses grew passionate in a brand new way. Desperation became prevalent in the familiar push and pull, but not all of her desire was born from a need to satisfy a primal urge. These kisses felt like a necessity, as if they were the only way for her to breathe. It took me too long to understand. She kissed me this intensely to remind herself that I survived.
I always felt happy to offer reassurance.
We pulled back from each other and Jayde planted one last kiss right between my eyebrows before reluctantly letting go. “I love you, Nadya.”
“I love you, too,” I replied with a grin that made my face hot. “If you’re gonna go for another wooden bed frame, make sure it’s solid wood.”
Her expression became both exasperated and amused. “Any more input than that?”
I thought about it for a moment. “Platform frame. No headboard.”
“No headboard?”
“I broke the last one in half.”
“Well, yeah, but we could…” Jayde motioned to where our mattress sat on old pallets that we repurposed as a temporary fix, “attach it to the wall or something, I don’t know.”
“I’ll tell you what, if you see something that can survive me, then get it and we’ll figure it out.”
The way the curved line at the corner of her mouth became more pronounced made my heart flutter. “Oh, I don’t think anything can survive you. Not even me.”
I scoffed. “Stop that.”
“You love it,” she quipped and kissed my cheek before finally backing away towards the door. “See you soon.”
I waved. “See you.”
As soon as she left, I attempted to busy myself with mundane tasks. Finding a new routine proved to be just as much of a challenge as everything else I had to get used to, but I felt the most determined with this goal. I needed normalcy. However, I gradually came to the realization that this was the first time I had been truly separated from Jayde since before I turned.
A steady feeling of unease grew in my gut with that understanding, like a black mass that wanted to devour me from the inside out. It didn’t matter that she only went into town. It didn’t matter that she would only be gone for a couple of hours. The presence within became so anxious at her absence that I could picture my wolf pacing back and forth in a cage. Locked away from our mate. Locked away from freedom. It felt like I would never escape.
The feeling became so encompassing that I couldn’t shake it no matter how hard I pretended it wasn’t there.
The panicked impulse to call Jayde and ask her to come home felt ridiculous, embarrassing, and a waste of everyone’s time. I knew she wouldn’t hesitate to return to me, but if I couldn’t work through something so simple on my own, then I really wasn’t ready to go back out into the world.
I have it in me to control this. For all the times Jayde said I was a fast learner, it had to mean something.
With resolve in my chest, I went back to our room and headed straight for the bathroom. My unsteady hands gripped the edge of the counter as I stared into my reflection. I took slow, deep breaths in preparation, willing my erratic heart to calm.
“How hard could it really be?” I asked, taking one final moment to remove my ring and set it in the dish by the sink. Just a precaution.
After another long exhale, I reached inwards to coax the other half of my being out. A rush of white-hot adrenaline burned through my veins, and the brown eyes I saw reflected in the mirror flashed to a bright silvery color. My breath got caught in my throat as I attempted to keep my wolf there. The presence pushed back hard, wanting to break through, and the strain made every muscle in my body go as rigid as stone.
It felt like a game of chicken. One of us would yield to the other soon. I just needed to stand my ground for a little bit longer. Unfortunately every second could have been a century for all I knew.
Finally, I couldn’t hold it anymore. Each broken gasp that escaped my lungs came out ragged. That momentary relinquishment was all the wolf needed to gain ground. I felt a bone in my spine dislocate with an audible pop. My grunt echoed off the tiles.
No, no, no! I almost had it!
Utter panic seized my heart as I frantically tried to shove the wolf back into the recess of my mind. It did not like that. The primal instincts I had became just as frightened as my human ones. My desperate grasp for control only met an even more intense force, something far stronger. It was too late to rein it in.
Another bone-breaking crack—this time in my hip—echoed in the bathroom, causing me to cry out and sink to my knees. I gripped the counter like a lifeline, feebly fighting against the cascading effect in my changing form, and worried that I would crack the marble with my untamed strength.
It’s useless, a voice that sounded like Jayde’s whispered in my mind. Just let it happen.
I needed to get outdoors. It wasn’t safe to have an uncontrolled shift inside the Lodge.
I quickly hauled myself to my feet, groaning pathetically in pain, and stumbled out of the bathroom. My unsteady legs were the only thing carrying me forward through the aches and delirium of my sudden transformation. Black spots danced in my vision. The whole room swayed. There wasn’t a lot of time to act, so I hastily pulled my shirt over my head in hopes that I wouldn’t get tangled in my own clothes at the very least.
Just as my hand reached for the doorknob, my world went dark.
“I’m bored,” Skye whined as she trailed behind me in the furniture store.
I barely paid any attention to her complaints, just examined all of the bed frames they had available. A catalog rested on a table and I picked it up to skim through the options not on display. “You can suck it up for a little bit longer.”
“The craft store closes at six.”
I threw her a look. “We’ve been here for fifteen minutes.”
She shrugged. “I’m just saying.” When I shook my head dismissively, she continued to be a pest. “At least read aloud. Or is that too difficult for you?”
My teeth grinded so that I would avoid smacking her upside the head with the catalog. “Here’s a thought, how about you help?”
That perked her up. “Sure!” Skye hopped over and stood on the tips of her toes to peek over my shoulder. “What are we lookin’ for?”
“Nadya wants a platform bed frame. Solid wood.” I answered.
“Why do you need a new one?” she asked as she reached around me to flip through the pages.
“Ours is old.”
“I thought there was extra furniture in storage.”
I tried not to get impatient with all the questions. “We want something new to freshen up the room.”
Skye leaned back to squint suspiciously at me. “Since when have you ever wanted to ‘freshen up a room’?”
“Nadya does.”
“Hang on,” she said, a slow grin coming across her face. Skye snatched the catalog out of my hand before I could react and danced away from me when I tried to get it back. “A platform bed frame, huh? That’s pretty low to the ground. Solid wood? That’s sturdy. Pretty specific preferences if you ask me. Two plus two equals—”
“Skye—”
“You broke the bed, didn’t you?”
I sighed. “No, I didn’t.”
She cracked up like that was the funniest thing I could have said. “The look on your face! You totally did!”
“Not that it’s any of your business, but I didn’t.”
“Well, if it wasn’t you, then that means…” I could tell that my expression gave me away again by the look of utter delight on my little sister. “Nadya broke it! Oh, this is priceless. I bet it was after the full moon, huh? All that pent up emotion and everything being heightened. I knew you were a pillow princess, Jayde, but this is a whole new level of hilarious.”
“I am not a–” I huffed in annoyance. Then I realized that Skye enjoyed my embarrassment more than anything else, so I decided to return the favor. I waited until there was a break in her giggles to say, “You know what? Yeah, she broke the headboard. Snapped it right in half while she was riding my–”
“Okay!” Skye cut me off with a suddenly horrified expression. “Alright, okay, okay, truce! Please do not finish that sentence.”
“That’s what I thought,” I said, satisfied that I turned the tables on her for a change. “Now, are you gonna help me or not?”
One more disturbed shiver went through her and she shook it off to show me a page in the catalog she had been holding. “Here, what about this one?”
I grabbed it to inspect. The picture I saw advertised a reasonably priced bed frame that looked like one solid block of wood about a foot high. It came with a thick headboard that appeared just as sturdy as the rest of the frame. Several different types of wood were available for this specific piece of furniture as well. All in all, it turned out to be exactly what I was looking for.
“Perfect.” I announced, giving Skye an encouraging pat with the catalog. “Let’s go see what we can do about getting this ordered. Then we can go to your stupid craft store.”
“Thank god,” she groaned. “You know, I was gonna get Nadya some new pens, but now I’m not so sure after learning about how she violated you.”
I chuckled. “And she’s gonna violate me a whole lot more on this thing.”
Skye looked like she wanted to throw up. “Ugh, gross! I’m gonna leave you here, you can walk home.”
“We drove in my car, so you better not. I’ll make peace with being an only child.”
“Please, you wouldn’t know what to do with yourself.”
On the drive back, Skye kept flipping through radio stations trying to find something to listen to. A song would play for three seconds tops and she’d make a face and flip to the next one. That went on for several long minutes. At this rate, we wouldn’t be able to listen to anything before we got home.
I spoke up after she skipped yet another song. “Come on, you didn’t even let that one play at all.”
“It was the Christian Rock station, so unless you’re feeling righteous,” she remarked with a rock on gesture.
“Oh.”
Skye gave up on the radio and started rummaging through the compartments in the car. “Don’t you and Nadya have music in here? I know she’s into indie crap, but you gotta have something decent, right?”
I rolled my eyes, but nodded downwards. “Under the seat.”
“Jackpot,” she gleefully announced as she pulled out the CD case. It took little more than a minute for her to find something that would satisfy her ears. “Here we go.”
“Yeah, we have time for one whole song,” I deadpanned.
“Not true. It’ll be a song and a half at least.”
“You’re always about technicalities.”
Skye settled back into her seat. Through some hesitation, I sensed she wanted to say more. She’s never been one to hold her tongue, so she ended up asking, “How’s our happy camper doing, by the way?”
“Good. She has a lot to learn, but she’s eager.”
“And how are you?”
I glanced over at my younger sister quizzically. She raised her eyebrows at me and I gave a nonchalant shrug. “I’m not the new werewolf.”
“No, but you’re in charge of one full time.”
“It’s only right that I’m the one to get her through this.”
“The entire pack guides a newly made wolf.” Skye sounded more formal than I’d ever heard her, reciting a tradition our dad taught us.
Through my momentary confusion, and surprise at her recalling something she heard when we were really young, her motive became clear. “She’s my mate, Skye. I’m more than happy to do all the heavy lifting. Really.”
“Oh, I know you are,” my sister mumbled in a sing-song voice.
We returned to the Lodge within the timeframe I promised Nadya, though I had to practically drag Skye out of that damn craft store to avoid being late. I knew my absence made Nadya anxious. Her anxiety rubbed off on me. I couldn’t wait to be home, but I knew I couldn’t be with her for every single moment. Nadya had to learn how to function as a werewolf without me, and I hoped that easing her into independence was the right call. Of course, I still despised leaving her for any reason.
After saying goodbye to Skye, I made my way through the Lodge. I felt excited to teach Nadya more methods of control. It would continue to be an uphill battle for a while, but she’s always been strong. Nadya will master any skill thrown at her. All she needed was a patient hand to guide her, and I was content to offer that.
Not only did the past few weeks make me feel closer to her, but I also felt closer to the family I lost a long time ago. A lot of responsibilities came with the title of Alpha. Miranda Kincade’s approach has always been about being a powerful leader that no one can stand against. I suppose a show of force was an important part of it, but I felt myself gravitate towards the gentler parts. The parts of being a leader that meant you took care of your pack. Where you stepped up to be there for them in any way they needed. I learned a lot about myself during Nadya’s experience of being turned. She might have been the one to change, but I felt different, too. I thought that maybe I would have made my family proud if they could see me now.
My phone rang before I made it to our room. I glanced at the caller ID and saw the number belonged to one of the wolves I patrolled with. It was a bit odd to hear from him on my day off, but I answered anyway. “What is it?”
“Thought you might wanna know,” Lee started hesitantly. “We just saw Nadya. She was in her wolf form.”
A deep, confused frown twisted my features. “Did she try to join patrol?”
“No, um, she left.”
I stopped dead in my tracks. “What do you mean she left, Lee?”
He sighed audibly through the phone. “I mean she came racing by out of nowhere like someone lit a fire under her tail. She’s not on the property anymore, she’s gone.”
I growled a curse and hurried towards our room. Anger boiled up in my chest, causing me to snap furiously at my associate. “You didn’t try to stop her?”
“She broke through our line, Jayde,” he replied. “By the time we realized what happened, it was too late to catch up to her. You know we can’t abandon our routes for something like this, that's why I’m calling you.”
When I rounded the corner, I saw articles of clothing strewn across the hallway floor. Some of them were ripped. They all smelled of Nadya. Even more worrying, the scent of fear lingered in the air. Oh, Nadya, what happened? I quickly picked the remnants of clothing up as I continued to our door, which had been left wide open. “Where did you see her and what direction was she heading?”
“South side of the property, she was going southwest.”
My stomach dropped. “That’s towards town.”
“It is.”
“Thank you for calling me, Lee.” I hung up before he said anything else and discarded Nadya’s ruined clothes.
Two emergency kits sat in the back of our closet. The duffel bags were military grade, outfitted for all sorts of weather and use. I made sure they were packed with everything we might need in a rush. All of the available pockets and compartments contained fresh clothes, first aid, water, rations, even spare cash. Originally, I intended for them to be travel items, but they turned out to be wonderfully convenient for a situation like this.
Without wasting any more time, I slung Nadya’s bag over my shoulder and hurried out to the parking lot. The off-road jeep tempted me, but speed would be my greatest ally. Nadya’s talent for running in her wolf form worked against me today, she could be miles and miles ahead. Maybe she even made it to town already. I had some catching up to do. My motorcycle would get me to the property line faster than anything else.
A lot of things raced through my mind as I weaved in between the trees. I didn’t think it was a coincidence that Nadya was heading towards town. That’s where she expected me to be. She wouldn’t do this consciously and I tried to put the missing pieces together to figure out what happened. Something made her feel unsafe, I was sure of that much. Her wolf must have taken over to protect her and went looking for me.
I failed her again. I never should have left.
I arrived at the border of the property where Lee mentioned. The patrol had moved on, but their strong scents remained. I hopped off my bike and wandered around until I caught Nadya’s scent, too. It lingered faintly and her pawprints barely muddled the soft earth, confirming that she really flew right through here. I came to the quick conclusion that it would be too difficult to follow her trail on the bike.
“Goddammit,” I growled and took off on foot in the direction she went.
If I had more time, I might’ve shifted myself. Four legs were certainly faster than two, and my senses would be better, but I didn’t want to risk wasting a single second. The thought of her being spotted in town, of her potentially being cornered and lashing out to protect herself, added a new fear to the collection already brewing in my chest.
Nadya’s path turned strange. Her trail would be a straight shot for a hundred yards and then become erratic. I almost thought that she was trying to throw off any pursuers, but the areas where she had veered off her course smelled of anxiety. The signs told me she kept fighting for control, which is possibly the worst thing she could do. Her wolf would only get more frightened the longer she resisted, possibly even aggressive. My pace picked up to a sprint.
I must have ran for miles, but I only slowed whenever I lost Nadya’s scent. Never have I been more grateful for my stamina. Though I had to admit that my mate was giving me a run for my money in a very literal sense. Surely she couldn’t go on forever. There’s got to be a place where she takes a break, I just prayed it wouldn’t be close to town.
A swell of relief hit me at the scent trail becoming stronger. I had to be getting close.
I relaxed enough to move at a swift walk. The last thing I needed was to come bursting through the trees and spook her away. I also appreciated the chance to catch my breath. My hand reached up to adjust the strap digging into my neck, and I searched the area for any sign of Nadya.
“Nadya?” I called out softly. Silence filled the forest. Not even a single bird made a peep. Werewolves always made the wildlife go quiet, she was definitely somewhere near. “Nadya, it’s me. I’m here.”
Something low to the ground caught my eye off in the distance. I held my breath, then called to her again to see if I had imagined it. The slightest movement between the breaks in the trees confirmed my desperate hope. Without any hesitation, I desperately rushed towards it.
It’s her, it has to be her.
As I got closer, I noted that her wolf hadn’t been what I spotted. Nadya rested on the forest floor, bare human body steaming from a fresh shift, and curled in on herself. My heart slammed in my chest and I was unsure if relief or fear caused it to skyrocket.
“Nadya,” I skidded to a stop and kneeled beside her. She appeared to be unconscious. I quickly pulled out a blanket out of the bag. As soon as I had her covered, I carefully urged her onto her back and took her face in my hands. The heat of her skin warmed the ice that filled my veins. “Nadya, can you hear me? Can you look at me?”
Her eyes blinked open sluggishly like I disturbed a nap. Our gazes met, fascinating me for a brief moment as the remnants of her bright wolfish eyes were consumed by her normal brown. Not half a second later, she shot upright in alarm. “What–what’s going on? Where are we?”
I gently hushed her as she looked around in desperate confusion. “Just take a breath, you’re okay. Shit,” the curse hissed out through my teeth when I looked up and saw familiar buildings barely a quarter mile away. We were at the edge of town. “Nadya, listen to me, this is very important. Did anyone see you? Did you run into anyone at all?”
An expression of pure horror caused her eyes to shimmer with tears. “I–I don’t know.”
Realizing I just threw her into a deeper panic caused my gut to twist. “That’s okay. It’s okay,” I tried to say in a soothing voice. My thumb brushed her tears away, and I picked out leaves and twigs from her hair. “You’re fine.”
“Oh, god, I’m so sorry, Jay.”
“Hey, none of that. It’s okay, just tell me what happened.” I allowed myself a few moments to inspect her for wounds. When I confirmed that she came out of this incident unscathed, I pressed a kiss of both relief and reassurance to her forehead.
Nadya shook her head and spent a few minutes crying into my shoulder. I patiently held her. Losing control rarely happened to me, but every time it did, it left a new scar across my soul. I never wanted Nadya to feel anything like that. Pieces of my heart broke off with each one of her sobs.
Enough of her composure came back to allow her to form coherent sentences. “I panicked when you were gone.”
“Why didn’t you call?”
“Because it was stupid, Jayde.” She shook her head again, this time at herself. “I wanted to prove to myself that I could work through it. I tried to do that thing you showed me.”
“Oh, Nadya,” I sighed. Many thoughts went through my head and I tried to put them together in the gentlest way possible. “Feeling that wasn’t stupid, but please don’t push yourself like that again. There’s no reason for it. Just call me next time, okay? That’s what I’m here for.”
The look she gave me hurt just as much as the sound of her cries did. “I hate that I disappointed you.”
“You didn’t disappoint me. You scared the hell out of me, but I’m not disappointed. I’m not even angry.”
“Then I hate that I scared you,” she said hopelessly. “I hate that I scared myself.”
“You’re okay, that’s all that matters.”
Nadya took a deep breath. As she released it, her head fell into her hand and she wrapped the blanket tighter around herself. I sat beside her as more quiet sobs shook her shoulders and rocked her body.
Something didn’t work, as if I couldn’t see a vital piece of the equation I have been trying to help her solve. Watching her go through this—understanding what had actually brought her here—I began to comprehend the issue. A huge part of me hated the conclusion I came to, it went against all of my instincts, but I knew it to be true deep down. It’s always been true. If I really wanted to help her, I needed to speak it aloud.
“The pack guides a newly made wolf,” my father told us. “Being a werewolf is a curse if you’re alone, but a gift when there are others to share the burden. Learn from your family, just like they learn from you.”
I waited until there was a break in the storm wracking through her. “Can I say something?”
Nadya sniffled and wiped her face with the blanket before meeting my gaze. “Sure.”
“I’ve been missing the mark.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re my partner. You’re my wife. You’re my mate. I will always be by your side no matter what, nothing's gonna change that.” I pulled out a wet napkin from the duffel bag and used it to help clean her face. “But I don’t think you can rely on me for everything anymore. We can’t be attached at the hip, because then things like this happen when we’re apart, and that isn’t good for either of us.”
Nadya looked dejected, but she nodded. “I know.”
I smiled sadly. “Trust me, if I had it my way, I’d never let you out of my sight. Thing is, I haven’t been able to help you in all the ways you need it.”
Those gorgeous brown eyes were full of heartbreak and acceptance. My chest tightened so painfully that the ache traveled up into my throat. It never occurred to me that there was more than one way to let a person go. Nadya wasn’t going anywhere, and neither was I, but releasing her from being my full time responsibility felt like one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.
“How am I going to figure this out on my own?” she asked.
I placed my hand on the side of her face. “You are never going to be alone. We have a pack, remember? You have an entire Lodge full of admirers. Try talking to the others and I’m certain you’ll find out what works for you.”
“And you?”
“I’m still here,” I promised.
Nadya leaned in until our foreheads rested against each other. “Why does this feel like a goodbye?”
I let out an amused breath. “It’s a hello.”
“You’re right,” she said, leaning back from me and dragging her hands over her face. “I need to get over myself.”
“My sister is the one that needs to get over herself.” The sound of her laugh was music to my ears. “She figured out you broke the bed, by the way.”
“Oh, god,” Nadya moaned, but continued to laugh.
“Why don’t you get dressed so we can go home?” I suggested and handed her the emergency bag. “You can make Skye just as uncomfortable as she makes you. Turns out it’s not even that hard.”
“Finally got her number, huh?”
“You know it.”
Nadya continued to dwell on her thoughts. I saw it in the way she took her time sifting through the bag. Her eyes remained unfocused for several minutes, not really seeing the clothes she pulled out. I encouraged her to drink some water after she absentmindedly set the bottle aside. A few generous swigs seemed to bring more life into her.
“I don’t really remember getting here,” she explained. “I mean, there’s flashes. I was afraid and frustrated. But I don’t think I ran into anyone.”
“Let’s see.” I grabbed her hands to inspect her nails. Only dirt caked underneath them. No skin. No blood. No foreign scents anywhere on her. “I think that’s a safe bet.”
“You were right about the humans.” Nadya’s gaze drifted towards the buildings in the distance. “I can smell them all from here. It’s strange.”
I nodded. “I know. It’s like they’re like animals, but not.”
She continued to stare in the direction of town. “I got this instinct, that much I remember. As soon as I sensed them I knew not to get too close.”
That instinct was familiar to me. It’s why purebreds are usually introduced to the human world at a young age. “You’ll get used to being around them.”
A half grin came across her features and she looked back at me. “Well, I’m actually not so sure I want to now.”
“You will. It’s just about getting accustomed to it, is all.”
“I guess I’ll have to take your word for it.”
Nadya managed to get dressed and I helped her to her feet. As soon as I saw her standing steady, I pulled her into a tight embrace. She eagerly returned it, letting all of the stress seep out of her muscles with a heavy sigh against my neck. I released my own sigh and melted against her, feeling our bodies sway together like a calm breeze. A bird chirped in a tree looming above us, followed by another, and another, until the forest came back to life.
When we pulled back, I passionately pressed my mouth to hers. I made sure my lips scared away all that haunted her. I used our kisses to breathe reassurance into her lungs. Nadya accepted it, gifting me with a fervor that made me weak in the most intoxicating way possible. I loved feeling her strength like this. Even when she had been human, she felt like a pillar. There was such power in her gentleness. I never really understood it, but god, was it a sensation to behold after a lifetime of violence.
“You’ll always be my love,” Nadya spoke softly against my lips.
My hands clutched her hips to pull her closer to me as I deepened the kiss. Her warmth was everything I needed, yet not nearly enough. I knew I would always be chasing the thrill of experiencing her so completely. An especially intense beat of my heart caused my chest to bloom with the knowledge that this remained something I never had to let go of.

With a cold breeze skittering down your spine, you place the last box inside your home to look around, figuring out where to place the new Halloween decorations you’d just bought that day.
Moving away from a big city, to follow the feeling of Wanderlust- as your mother would’ve put it, to end up moving to a much smaller town in a more remote, forest area. It wasn’t even a quarter of the size that your previous town was, but you like it. The neighbors were kind, the community was tight-knit.
  It felt like home.
And with the feeling of home and wanting to fit in in mind, you decided what better way to fit in than to join the town’s celebration by decorating your house to match the others.
Normally, for Halloween, you would’ve left a candy bowl out by your door for anyone in your apartment floor to get, along with hand delivering small bags of candy to your apartment’s security guard - Seokmin - for him and his kids to have, as well as to the elderly couple who lived right down the hall. But, besides that, you weren’t the one to really go out that night, preferring to stay in and watch movies like ‘Halloween Town’ or some other movie that wasn’t deemed as scary.
But much to your findings, people here didn’t celebrate Halloween, instead they celebrated something they called ‘The Dance of the Moon’ - where they essentially partied all night at home and at the town square. From what your town mayor , Mr. Song, explained to you, was that hundreds of years ago, the small town had been plagued by wolves. They would go after children, elderly, anyone who couldn’t readily fight back from being eaten. Every time someone was found missing, the townspeople would send a group to kill some wolves; how many people were taken and eaten- that was the amount of wolves that would be killed in return.
“An eye for an eye,” as the older gentleman had explained, with a hardened look on his face.
Supposedly, the resolution was found as the town had experimented with what would please the wolves- since back then, the closest town with a decent hunter was days away, and there weren’t enough people to both send out and watch over the rest of the town. The wolves would stop going after a lot of townspeople if there were sacrifices made.
The Mayor was quick to assure that the legends hadn’t specified human sacrifices- they never exactly said what was sacrificed, really, but for the past thirty years or so, they had been using pigs, goats, or cows that were due to pass on soon. They would drop them off at a specific place in the forest, and knowing that the residents would be safe from any wolves, they would celebrate in the town festival until early dawn.
The last piece of information that Mayor Song had dropped on you before he handed you your house key- new residents had to participate in the festival. Seeing that you were the only resident to come in this year- it really is a small town with not a lot of travelers- he asked you to accompany the animals to the post; with his son, Mingi, of course. When you had agreed, Mayor Song had sent you on your way, notifying you that his son would pick you up with his animal hauler at around five, the evening of.

To prepare yourself for the festival- that did make you a little unsettled, but you were sure it was just a stretched out rumor- you spent the week finding whatever Halloween knick-knacks for around the house that you could.
You had no plans of dressing up at all for the festival, until one of the ladies- Theresa- working the cash register, had asked if you had your outfit ready yet. With a glace to your face, she had explained that for the festival, people usually wear red, purple, white, and black. It didn’t have to be a full outfit or anything, but you would look like an outsider, since most of the town residents liked their outfits to look from back then. With that in mind, you quickly used up your last days trying to piece together an outfit with the corresponding colors.
A white, knee-length, lace dress accompanied by a black headband, and purple nail polish. The red garment, however, left you slightly baffled. The only red clothing that you could find was a deep red cloak that you had bought on one of your ‘spurge days’, after getting your first job at seventeen. You didn’t need the item for anything, it just looked so cool that you had to have it. And now, so many years later, you contemplated wearing it- quickly deciding that you’d ask Mingi his opinion when he picked you up, but just in case, you’d wear a lipstick the same shade of red.
⇛                                                                                                                  ⇚
The day of the festival had left a pit of excitement in your gut. You hadn’t had work today- town’s rules that no work was permitted on holidays, and that included town holidays- and the same goes for tomorrow as well, although, it is asked of residents to come to the festival grounds to help clean up.
As the day dwindled to late afternoon, you decided to head back home to get into your costume for later tonight, and then wait for the mayor’s son. This would be your first time meeting the boy, the only things you know is that you are the same age as him, and he’s got a deep voice- from what your coworker has told you.
A loud knock on your front door snaps you out of your thoughts, checking yourself over one last time in the foyer mirror, before opening the door to see a tall man with brown hair- styled in a gelled undercut.
“Hi, I’m Mingi, it’s nice to meet you”, the mayor’s son reaches his hand out for a handshake, feeling your fingertips and palm tingle from the contact. Feeling thankful that he can’t notice the blush on your face, you shake his hand and return the greeting.
You both take a moment to look each other over, and you have to admit, he looks good. He’s dressed in a flowy, long sleeve white shirt that has two untied strings in the front of the collar- showing off the black velvet choker with subtle deep purple moons embellished in the fabric - and a pair of cropped black pants. Looking up to meet his eyes properly, you gasp under your breath.
Hearing a cow moo in the trailer behind him, he suggests that you guys leave now, before quickly turning to walk to his truck. Walking after him, you thank him as he opens your door for you, before he enters on his own side.
Throughout the drive, you both make small conversation about your likes and dislikes, finding out that you both had quite a bit in common. You were both shocked to find that you enjoyed things like Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream, and neither one of you really like cake. You found out that he was a nature photographer who used to live a few hours away with some friends; he moved back a couple years prior after he had gotten attacked by some people who were illegally hunting who had mistaken him for an animal. He had plans to move back with his friends, he just felt like he should be back in his home roots for such a big injury.
Looking out the window, you try to make out any shapes of the passing by trees- the darkness of the early night made the forest a lot darker, being unable to see anything if it weren’t for Mingi’s headlights. For the next thirty minutes, the only view you could see was the dirt path with the occasional flying creature - probably bat - flying above the truck, before flying into the darkness.
“We are almost where we need to be, there’s a small cabin that this road leads to. From there we can stop and walk the animals a mile out to the post”, Mingi says, his unnaturally bright, honey-colored eyes flashing over to you- being so bright that you can’t decide if they’re real or not. You’d been wanting to ask him since you had first noticed them, but you didn’t want to be nosy, or feel like you were asking a really obvious question.
Soon enough, the trees break away to show a meadow, a cabin and a shed in the middle of the clearing. Pulling the truck to a stop in the make-shift dirt driveway, you both get out and walk to the back end, where Mingi opens the back trailer revealing a single cow and two goats. Mingi hands you the leads for the goats as he takes the cow, and you both start walking down a pathway- stopping frequently when the animals decide to graze at the long grass.
Neither you or Mingi made conversation, besides the occasional comment towards the animals. Eventually, you both had made it to a pen of sorts, seeing other animals in the pen as well.
Giving Mingi a questioning glance, he ignores you, taking the leads from you to walk the animals into the pen, before disappearing to the sheltered building, before coming out with handfuls of hay to give to the animals.
“There’s no wolves out here, you know?” The tall man finally says, “ No actual wolves. Just me,” he finishes giving you a smile,” I know my father meant well, but I was hoping for this to be more natural.” Confused, you start walking backwards, your heart beating so hard you think it might go through your chest.
Not waiting for you to say anything, he continues, "I know you must be confused, but I can explain. You should probably stop walking back though; it is a full moon tonight, and my wolf isn’t in the playful mood tonight- especially not with how you smell.” As his last sentence rings through your ears, you quickly decide to ignore his warning, and run down the path back to the cabin.
As you pump your legs faster you hear a forced laugh from the man, ”So this is the type of mate I have,” the pen gate rustles behind you, and as much as you want to look back, Mingi’s words make you feel the opposite. With the now red colored moon shining your path, you reach the cabin, not being able to decide what to do next.
Apparently, you wouldn’t have any time to decide anyways, seeing that as you started to go to the cabin’s door, a large hand grabs your shoulder, halting you from moving. Being forced to turn around, Mingi stares down at your form breathing heavily. Eyes widening, you start to squirm as you see his eyes now a deep red color, before freezing at the deep rumble that comes from his chest.
  ⇛                                                                                                                  ⇚
“You're not too good at following directions, huh? C’mon, let’s get inside, I’ll make some tea and properly explain since you wouldn’t let me earlier. I won’t hurt you- if I had wanted to do that, I could've done that on the trip here,” He tells you with an unimpressed look, before walking you in front of him, to the cabin.
Minutes later, you were sitting down on a couch facing the fireplace with tea in hand, as Mingi sat on the recliner angled to the couch, tea in his hand as well. Taking a sip of his beverage, he clears his throat “ So, I’m sure my dad and some people have been talking about tonight’s festival,” you nod “Okay, well pretty much, my dad told you a different version of the town’s legend. We did try sending animals, but they hadn’t worked, it wasn’t until the town herbalist had offered to go out as a sacrifice instead. Seeing that nothing had worked, previously, and she was a recent widow, everyone let her,” Mingi stopped as he heard your soft gasp,” Apparently, she went out, and she did get attacked.”
He paused, tilting his head as he asks” Did you know that wolves can tell when a human is pregnant?” You nod your head- you’d seen plenty of videos of how wolves in safe havens had reacted towards pregnant guests. Mingi smiles at your knowledge and continues on,” Well unfortunately, they noticed that she was pregnant after attacking her. As she was dying one of the she-wolves approached her, and somehow gave the human her life force- their spirits joining together. The lady survived, but she was the town’s first werewolf- her son being the first born werewolf. Seeing the power she had, the rest of the pack listened to her. As she went back to the town- the villagers considered it a blessing. It isn’t clear how it happened, but she was able to get the villagers to join their spirits with the pack. Of course there were people who rejected- and they left the village,” Mingi stops again sipping his drink.
“How does that work though? Would that mean the entire town is full of werewolves? Isn’t that unsafe?” You ask, setting your now empty mug, on your lap.
“This has never been a town to get a lot of visitors. After a while of the town learning how to be wolves and humans, there were quite a few attempts to kill the pack from the people who’d left. The first woman, at that point she was what we call a Luna, had heard about a witch a few towns over who might be able to help- so they sought her out. After agreeing to help the witch with a small problem, the witch put a circle around the town. Other supernaturals can find the town- but to humans, this entire place is just forest. The only humans who can come here are like you, they’re mated. Destined to be with someone from here. And that person happens to be with me,” Pausing to gauge your reaction, he continues explaining,” Werewolves have mates, and they’re pretty much soulmates. I can tell because your scent is intoxicating for my wolf, it’s a very homey scent. You will be able to feel the pull the more we are around each other- for now, you’d probably get a ticklish feeling if I were to touch you,” You think back to when you’d shook his hands, and the feeling you got when you brushed against his arm- it makes sense, but earlier you had thought it was just your nerves from being around a handsome guy,” But eventually, you will develop a better sense of smell, and probably better hearing and sight- although it won’t be the same as being an actual werewolf. Unless, that is, you choose to reject me?” He questions with his facing down to look at the unlit fireplace.
Taking a moment to think, you make up your mind before answering,” What do I have to lose?” You get up to place yourself on Mingi’s lap- something that you wouldn’t have done if it were anyone else, but you knew that you were comfortable with him.
“I’m in a new town that although it might be new and strange, it still feels right. I definitely don’t understand the whole wolf thing, but there’s plenty of time to learn,” You finish, leaning into the large hand that was placed on your face. Feeling his breath on your face, you close your eyes as he gets closer.
“I’m glad, now shall we go back to town? Everyone was really excited to be around a new face, you know,” Mingi says, placing a kiss on your nose.

Weeks turning into months, and months turning into years; two years precisely, you’d never imagined the day that you’d leave this cozy town that you had considered home.
You and Mingi had officially started dating two weeks after first meeting- although, typically werewolves never really bothered with the whole dating thing, unless they weren’t mates- and you two were still going strong.
With an influx of new packmates from a neighboring pack alliance, and Mingi’s need for joining back with his friends- which you had found out were actually his formed pack- you two decided to move away, to the plot of land that they owned.
When you two had first pulled up to the place, you couldn’t help but scoff at your boyfriend’s words. “Only a small plot of land he says. And Disney World is just a small fair, right?” His only response had been a bashful grin.
The place still felt very homey, and very similar to your previous town; being located in the middle of nowhere, it was twenty acres of land, fenced off to show the property lines. It was pretty clever- seeing that when you first pulled into the main road in, it honestly looked pretty inconspicuous, if it weren’t for the big fence surrounding the place.
Meeting the pack members had made you a bit nervous, but you soon realized that they reminded you of brothers- very teasing, a little annoying at times, but you cared for them, and they cared for you.
Thankfully, you guys didn’t share a house together. It was bad enough that most times, you would wake up to find Wooyoung, Hongjoong, or hell- sometimes the entire pack in your house, eating your food and lounging about. Every pack member had their own individual houses- each spread out, and separated by a lot of trees.
This was extremely helpful when it came to your boyfriend’s mating season.
Usually, for his rutts, you guys had been fine for the most part. He hadn’t marked you yet, so of course, he would be a bit more aggressive and testy with the other males. But, unfortunately, his heat this time had definitely taken a toll on you both.
With him being, essentially, part wolf, he can keep track of your cycles pretty well. If he’d noticed that you were bleeding, he’d be more attentive than usual. Early in your relationship, it had embarrassed you that he could literally smell you, but now - although it does cause some embarrassment - it doesn’t make you feel as weirded out, especially since he only tries to help you.
But, a big downside of this has been him knowing when you’re ovulating. When this starts, you aren’t really allowed to go anywhere; Mingi’s wolf sees this time as your heat, even though humans don’t actually have one. It’s even worse when your ovulation is timed up with his rutt.
⇛                                                                                                                  ⇚
Laying on your stomach with your arms crossed under your head, you blink your eyes open, shutting them as the late afternoon sun works its way through your window. As you decide to fall back asleep before your boyfriend awakens, the hand that is wrapped around your waist, tightens; your naked body shifts under the loose sheet as you get moved to your side.
You attempt to even out your breath to trick your needy boyfriend into thinking you were still asleep. You loved the attention he gave you during this time, but with how long you two were going at it earlier today - hence why you had taken the nap in the first place - you did have a small worry in the back of your head of you both getting over exhausted.
Your plan quickly got thrown out the door; a growl emitting from the chest behind you, as Mingi rutts his bare length into your lower back.
Spotting kisses around your neck and shoulder, your boyfriend speaks.
“You know, I think it’s so cute,” placing a kiss on your shoulder “That you think I can’t tell when you’re awake,” placing a kiss where your shoulder meets your neck “When I can still smell your sweet cunt beg for attention when I barely graze you,” he finishes with a light bite below your ear; a place that makes you breathe out a whine.
  “Mingi, please,” “Please what?”
Pouting at his teasing, you pull his hand that’s wrapped around your waist, and place it in between your legs- sure that he can feel the accumulated arousal.
“Please fuck me, I really need it. I really need you,” You beg, tilting your head to the side as much as you can to tantalize him.
In an instant, you are shoved onto your stomach, Mingi’s thick thighs straddling yours, his long length resting on your butt. Feeling his precum dripping onto you, you grind your ass up to feel some type of friction- being stopped by Mingi grabbing your hair and pulling you back enough for him to whisper in your ear.
“Little mate, I suggest you not tease me. I would love to make you properly mine- but if you keep acting up, my wolf will take over, and you will be marked and knotted,” His raspy voice makes your eyes flutter back. Inhaling a deep breath, his hand in your hair tightens, as he undoubtedly smells the new wave of arousal gushing out from his words.
“Please Mingi. Mark me, knot me, I don’t care. I just need you in -!” Your begging gets cut off as you feel your boyfriend crawl down you- him lifting your hips up, and sliding his tongue through your slit.
Rolling your eyes back as his talented tongue does wonders on you, he grabs your ass cheeks for more leverage. After sliding his tongue into you a few times, mocking what’s next to come, he travels up, licking at the pink hole between your cheeks. Reaching your arms out behind you, you attempt to hold him in place to continue eating you out. Much to your disappointment, he gets back up to his previous position, holding your hands behind you.
“Baby, hold yourself open for me,” You quickly obey, grabbing your cheeks to present yourself to him.
His groan fills your ears, before feeling his cock enter you, him only stopping when his lower stomach is fully resting on you. Being left breathless from the sudden intrusion, you let out a loud moan when he pulls out, only to thrust back in- the power of the thrust shaking your form.
After a few more slower thrusts, his resolve finally breaks, as he starts snapping his hips into yours at a faster pace; the room filling with the sounds of moans, and slapping skin.
Hands having fallen, you grasp the bed sheet, as you raise your hips back to meet Mingi’s thrusts.
Feeling his cock throb inside you, you moan out, letting him know you’re close. He bends down closer to you, hips pistoning even faster. If it weren’t for the pillow between the wall and the headboard, you knew that there would for sure be a dent in the wall.
Placing kisses on your shoulder, to sweeten the blow that was prepared to come, he finally finds your sweet spot; biting down on it as he feels you come around his length. Whining at the intensity of the strong orgasm, you don’t notice the trail of blood running down your collarbone, from where your boyfriend was latched onto you.
Mingi finally pulls back, slowing down his thrusts as he comes, his cock swelling in size and pumping his seed into you directly.
Gasping out at the slightly uncomfortable feeling, your attempts to wiggle around are thwarted by Mingi laying his upper body on you- turning your face to kiss it.
“So this is what knotting is?” you question, as the uncomfortable feeling subsides, having adjusted to his large size “Yes it is. The knot should go down in around twenty minutes- there was a lot that went in, so it’s going to take a little longer than usual,” He replies with a tired yawn.
Turning over to your sides, you press your upper body against his before falling asleep feeling content.

Challenge Part 1 [Preparation for Battle, Raine & Mariela] [~2530 Words]
Tumblr media
It was well after dark at Sunlight’s Canopy. Oil lamps scattered around the room cast an eerie orange glow across the walls. Raine had called in a favor. She sat at a table alone, staring out onto the streets of Golden while she waited for the owner of the shop to enter the room. The half elf was listless. She was feeling so many things at the moment that her emotions sort of just…shut down on her. Clouds overtook the city that night, and rain thrummed on the window as her coffee grew cold on the table in front of her. A storm again, huh? Raine was transported back to that night when the full moon rose above stone plinths, changing her life forever. She could feel a chill run up her spine.
It started on the Spirale University campus. She overheard a group of students whispering rumors about two people trapped out in The Mistwood trying to leave the city. At first she thought it was just another newcomer to the city who got lost on their way exploring. It happened often enough. It wasn’t that strange. They would learn soon enough that in walking past the edge of the barrier that there was no escape. But… the rumors didn’t stop there.
As she was making her way across campus later that day she overheard more chatter. One of the two people was supposedly an elven woman with long silver hair, wearing a coat of green cloth. The other was a human man with light-brown hair. They had been seen traveling the solitary stretch of road between Cotes and The Mistwood, then turning into the woods together. There were too many coincidences there to make her feel comfortable. If it was them… they would never make it out alive. Her mother couldn’t fight. Her father was only one man, and while he knew useful medical skills and his way around a sword,  in the past he always had a company with him in the Knights.
After Grimm had told her that the Stars had his son, it wasn’t unthinkable that they had Raine’s parents as well. Just like when she had to protect a younger version of herself and Genis, it was almost as if the Stars had set that up as a practice for this main event. They were toying with her again. She had gotten too comfortable here. She had to be reminded never to let down her guard. How could she catch herself slipping like that? That’s right…no place was ever safe for very long for the Sages. Trouble followed them wherever they went. As they could always count on the dawn, they could also anticipate dusk. For Raine, she never knew what dangers lurked there, but she always knew that it was inevitable that in time some monster would rear its head.
“Heeey. Sorry it took so long. I wish I could do more for you but…this is all I’ve got to spare right now.” Mariela walked in from the back of the apothecary, lugging a box filled with potion vials and round capsules.
“No, it’s fine. I know we’ve all been weakened here. Any help is appreciated but…I don’t mean to be a bother. You can’t find them, can you? With your attachment to the ley line?” The shopkeeper frowns and sits down across from the professor.
“I’ve never met them, so I’ve never come across their spiritual energy. I could probably find you like that if you were ever in danger but…not a stranger. On a night like this, I went out into the rain and with all the magical energy I could muster I followed my friend Caroline. It took everything I had. Even if I had met these travelers everyone’s talking about, the last time I tried to find someone like that, my soul almost got taken into the ley line for good.”
“Ah…r-right. I apologize. I didn’t wish to ask too much of you.” So, because Mariela was attuned with this ley line she could also distinguish one person’s presence from another. She’d have to ask her more about this in the future. It wasn’t exactly like a mana signature, but something similar at least.
“Naw, it’s alright. I get it. When Carol was missing I…I felt so scared. I can’t fight, so all I could do was lead other people to the place she was to protect them.”
Raine sighed, taking a moment to sip at her coffee so she had time to collect herself and think. Honestly... Raine could relate to what she was saying.
“Well. Your skills are impressive, and more than useful to others. Thank you again for meeting me here tonight. So, tell me a little more about these.”
The alchemist picks a potion vial out of the box, shaking it gently so that the foggy white particulate swirled in the liquid. Raine recognized this one. It was some sort of Monster Warding potion. Mariela had mentioned before that this kept monsters away, but she had yet to explain exactly how it worked. She asked now for some clarification.
“Alright, so you remember this one. It’s made from the same herbs that grow around the gutters on the roof. I can’t guarantee that they’ll work on every monster. After a certain level monsters become too strong to be affected by them. In my world, monsters all had a ranking system. D-ranked monsters were usually the weakest of them and they were found on the first levels of the Labyrinth. C ranks were stronger than those, then B, then A, and the strongest of all monsters would be classified as S rank. The same went for people. Anywho, the monster warding potions usually work for monsters up to B rank, but it depends. Dog monsters like wolves are especially sensitive to it. The smell it gives off will make them turn and run. If they’re too high of a level, you can at least throw it at a certain spot to guide them into groups so they’re easier to hit. That’s what we did with the orc raids every year.”
“So these potions won’t normally hurt a monster?”
“Nah. Not usually. It makes them really uncomfortable and might give some minor burns, but usually it’s just a deterrent.”
“Good to know. So then…these bombs.”
“Oh yup yup. This stays between you and me though. My shop has a strict policy that I don’t like selling anything that could be used to hurt other people. I trust you, but in the wrong hands…”
“I promise I won’t tell a soul.”
“Pheeeew. Thought so. I don’t sell poisons either for the same reason, even if I can make them. It’s just not moral to do it. So, you know about these flash bombs.” The shopkeep pulls out a bright yellow sphere. “They emit a bright light. Some monsters might be scared of light so it’s worth a try, but you’re gonna want to warn anyone else that you’re about to use one so you don’t get disoriented.”
“Then…the red ones.”
“Right-o. Those are actually bombs that cause explosions. Not big ones, when we were fighting the Labyrinth even kids used those, but they’ll definitely cause an injury. Be reeeeally careful with those. I’d suggest throwing them at the feet of a monster to demobilize them. Have you ever handled explosives before?”
“My light magic acts in a similar way and as for explosives…well. I know the dangers of them. I have never had handheld ones, but I have used them before.” At the professor’s answer, the alchemist had a concerned look on her face. Raine quickly followed up with, “Don’t worry Mariela. I’m not reckless. I like to make tactical plans before walking into danger if I can help it.”
Mariela nods. “These ones are made from incendiary plants. Less chance for collateral damage because there’s no shrapnel. And here.” The girl removes a leather belt with a number of pouches around it from around her waist, handing it over to Raine. “Carry it all with this. I really hope you find what you’re looking for out there. Be safe.”
“Thanks Mariela. I will certainly try to be.”
The alchemist put the lid back on the box and handed them over to the half elf. Raine scowled as she drew closer to the doorway, looking out to see that the rain had only started pelting the pavement with even more fury. The alchemist hopped up from her seat and peered out into the city streets herself. They both lived in this ward. She couldn’t just let her customer walk back home without at least a hood on.
“Wait up Raine! Let me just clean up and I’ll walk you right on home. I’m positive I’ve got a big umbrella here somewhere. We’re going the same direction anyway.”
“That would be wonderful, thank you.”
Mariela would throw the remains of the professor’s coffee in the sink and toss the container in the garbage. It was unlike Raine to clean up, but looking at her now, she was definitely out of it. She just stood under the awning in front of the shop and kept on staring out into the night, lost in her thoughts. Mariela looked around and finally found her umbrella, tucked into a corner in the living room. Then she locked up the door into the house and walked out the front door of the shop to lock that one as well. Then she began opening up the umbrella for both her and the half elf. It was a quiet walk home. Only the sounds of cars sloshing through puddles and their shoes smacking the pavement would be heard between them. It was scary, almost, to see a time when the professor was not excitedly chattering about her newest discovery.
After walking Raine to her doorstep, Mariela pulled a healing potion out of her pocket and handed it to the professor. She had already paid for the box in her hands, but being a healer herself she had figured that she could handle any injuries herself. Mariela told her that this one was on the house, and that you could never be too safe. The professor nodded and took the potion from her, unable to speak for a moment. She bowed her head slightly and thanked the girl again for her generosity, placing the potion in her own pocket. Mariela wished her luck and began walking down the street to her own building. Raine unlocked the door behind her and walked across the threshold, making her way upstairs to get to her apartment.
The room was quiet except for the usual sounds of the city that got filtered to the back of her mind. After taking off her shoes and hanging up her coat, Raine immediately headed for her room. She knew that she couldn’t do this alone. She wished she was more certain whether or not she was actually chasing phantoms but…she had made up her mind. She needed to know. If it was her parents after all, her father was there. That meant her parents were taken from a time before Kloitz had passed. That meant in turn that her mother had yet to lose her faculties. She could actually speak to them and get the answers that she desperately wanted to hear after so many years.
Above all…they didn’t regret having her, did they? Even though she was a half-elf, born to be scorned and despised. She was the reason they were on the run for so long. If the Imperial Research Academy hadn’t heard of her existence they would not have had to give up everything. It was her fault, wasn’t it? Surely, Virginia and Kloitz would have always been ostracized for finding love with one another, but if the siblings were never born perhaps they could have lived in Heimdall forever. Her father would still be alive if they were never chased out.
No. She would no longer think like that. If her Journey taught her anything, it was that she had the right to live regardless of her race. She would make her own place in the world...and here in Spirale...she didn’t even have to steal that place by pretending she was something she was not. People looked up to her. They accepted her, and cared for her, as hard as it was to believe most of the time. Her life was important.
What would happen, exactly, if those two people in the woods were her parents after all?  After so many years of feeling abandoned and rejected, did she want an apology from them? Did she just want to be left alone so that she might move on—scars buried deep but never quite healed? Did...any of it even matter anymore? She no longer had to hide who she was. For the first time in so long she could see happier days ahead. Logically she knew it was time to stop living in the past. Whatever she chose, it seems that she would have to make the decision quickly upon seeing them.
…If it really was them.
She wasn’t strong. Especially here in Spirale. She was a healer and a mage. Then again Virginia’s words ran circles in her mind. “Please forgive your powerless mother”. Even if Raine had some magical ability she felt she was nearly powerless, just like her mother had felt. But wait…that wasn’t entirely true was it? Raine had been through hell and back. Even when it felt like there was no hope, and life had kicked her down she changed her plans and found a way to survive on her own. Even if her magic wasn’t powerful, she was strong. She was tenacious. She would never give up fighting to find safety and belonging for her family. Above all she was crafty. She had to believe if there were monsters out in those woods, she would do as she always did and claw her way out of danger by the skin of her teeth.
Raine lay on her bed and took out her phone, staring at the list of contacts. In the past Raine had been too stubborn to ask for help. She believed that she had to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders because the only person she could rely on was herself. But now…things were different weren’t they? People she held dear knew who she was. They knew of her struggles to find a place where she belonged, and they began to welcome her with open arms. So…would it not cause undue worry to march into the woods by herself, just like when she went off on her own to find the Otherworldly Gate? Genis would be so upset if she did. Raine needed to ask for help, just this once. So… she opened her messages, hoping it was not too late to be bothering others, and called in a few favors to her friends and loved ones.

The Pokemon Timeline theories
Generation 1 takes place at the same time as Generation 3, then three years passes; in Johto, a boy or girl is starting their Pokemon Journey; halfway on their journey, they capture the Red Gyrados. The report on the Red Gyrados appears on TV Screens in Sinnoh, thus kicking off Lucas/Dawn’s journey. Meanwhile, the Trainer who started their journey in Johto have travelled to Kanto, where some things have changed in three years: Koga has taken a spot in the Elite Four, so his daughter Janine is now in charge of the Gym; Blue, the Rival of Red three years earlier is now a Gym Leader. Eventually, after beating the Kanto Gym Leaders the Johto Trainer battles Red atop Mt. Silver. The Battle Frontier is opened in Johto and Sinnoh, and a teenage girl named Caitlin is one of the Heads. However, she leaves the battling duties to her butler. Many years later, Caitlin leaves the Battle Frontier to take up a spot in Unova’s Elite Four. Sometime after that, Hilbert/Hilda, Cheren and Bianca is starting out on their journeys across Unova; on the way, they encounter N and Team Plasma. Alder, the Unova Champion, becomes a mentor to Hilbert/Hilda and Cheren. So anyway, after Team Plasma is defeated, N decides to leave Unova; Hilbert/Hilda meets Looker, who is investigating the Seven Sages. After the Seven Sages are taken into Looker’s custody, Looker tells Hilbert/Hilda to look for N, and so they leave Unova. Two years later, Cheren becomes a Gym Leader while Bianca decides to become an assistant to Professor Juniper. A boy named Hugh is determined to find his sister’s Purrloin; at the same time Bianca is giving one of the Starters to a boy or girl in Aspertia City. A series of events which ends with N’s return and the Battle against Champion Iris is what follows; The Pokemon World Tournament is opened, against the then-known Pokemon World’s top Trainers. At the same time, a new discovery is made; The Fairy Type, in the Kalos region. A group of friends start their journeys through Kalos, fighting the Gym Leaders and Team Flare befre Calem/Serena fights against the League. After their victory, a parade is held and Calem/Serena meets the mysterious AZ, the ancient King of the region. After a battle, AZ is reunited with his Florette and they vanish. Soon after, Sina and Dexio leaves for Alola; at the same time, a boy named Gladion has stolen a Pokemon from The Aether Foundation and joins Team Skull. Twenty-one months later, a girl named Lillie steals a Cosmog from the Aether Foundation, and escapes via Teleport; she is taken in by Professor Kukui. Three months later, a Trainer from Kanto has moved to Alola with their family; the mother is half-Alolan, so she wants her kid to experience the Trials. The Trainer meets Hau, and they meet Lillie and Nebby. They then takes part in the Trials; during the Trials, Kukui reveals to the player that he is setting up a “Pokemon League for those who passes the Trials”. The player and Hau travels to the Aether Foundation where Lusamine, President of the Foundation, reveals an Ultra Beast; Nilhego. She then vanishes with Nilhego and the Trials resume. Lillie gains confidence, and after the player beats the Trials, decides to go and retrieve her mother. Nebby evolves into the Legendary, Solgaleo or Lunala, and the Player and Lillie goes into the Ultra World. They see Guzma there, and manages to retrieve both Lusamine and Guzma. Ater the Player becomes Champion, a party is held and the Player and Lillie sneaks off to find Tapu Koko; the Player battles and catches it, and return to the party. The next day, Lillie decides to travel to Kanto to try and find a way to remove Nilhego’s venom from Lusamine, and at the same time, become a Trainer. Soon after, Looker recruits the Player to help retrieve the Ultra Beasts with Annabel, who came from a different Universe. Sometime after the Ultra Beasts, the Aether Foundation is raided by an unknown third-party. The unknown person stole the blueprints for Type:Null and a Beast Ball and flee to Galar. The Beast Ball is hidden in Stow-On-Side while a fourth Type:Null is created by Marcos Cosmos. Several years later, Victor/Gloria and Hop are Endorsed by Leon, to take on the Gym Challenge; on the journey, the Player meets Marnie, a girl from a decaying town who is hoping to become the next Champion, and Bede, a boy who has been endorsed by Chairman Rose. During the course of the story Bede loses his endorsement after destroying a landmark, and ends up being taken in by Opal. By the time the player reaches the Semi Finals there are very few people left. After beating Marnie and Hop the player then faces the Gym Leaders before facing Leon. Before the battle Chairman Rose announces that he has started “The Darkest Day” in order to avert an energy crisis in a thousand years. After going to the Energy Plant the Player and Hop arrive just in time to see Leon attempting to catch Eternatus, only for the Champion to fail. With Leon out, it’s up to the Player and Hop to stop Eternatus; aided by the Wolves, the Player and Hop successfully managed to stop Eternatus. A few days later, the Player manages to defeat Leon. Sometime later, the new Champion has to deal with a crisis in the region. After resolving the crisis Hop announces that he is going to study under Professor Sonia. The player then travels to the Isle of Armor and then Crown Tundra. Months later and the Galarian Star Tournament is set up.
My theory: Red/Green/Ruby/Sapphire-3 years-Gold/Silver/Diamond/Pearl-13 years-Black/White-2 years-Black2/White2/X/Y-3 years-Sun/Moon-5 years-Sword/Shield.
We do know that Generations 1 and 3 games takes place at the same time
Generations 2 and 4 takes place three years after (Due to the mention of the Red Gyrados in Johto and the hope that the cameraman can get a glimpse of it)
Black and White takes place around 13 years after the events of Generations 2 and 4 (Caitlin is now older, Darach my have either retired or died as in the Unova games, Caitlin refers to him in past tense, Cynthia mentions Lucas/Dawn)
Black and White 2 takes place two years after that (Cheren is now a Gym Leader, Bianca is now an assistant to Professor Juniper, Hilbert/Hilda has been gone for two years; Brycen, Leonra and the Stiration Triplets have stood down as Gym Leaders, Alder is retired and Iris is now the Champion)
X and Y takes place at the same time as Black2/White2 (One person in Courmaine City mentions Team Plasma, someone on Route 10 mentions Colress; the only older character to appear is Looker, however the latter is justified due to the other characters that could have appeared taking part in the Pokemon World Tournament)
Sun and Moon take place two years after that (Sina and Dexio mentions the “Five Heroes who saved Kalos”, Grimsley have a different design while Red and Blue appear a lot older; Cynthia and Wally are also older)
Sword and Shield takes place some five years after that (The Aether Foundation is mentioned while Rotom can inhabit PC’s; another theory is the time it takes between Marcos Cosmos’ raid on the Aether Foundation and the creation of a fourth Type:Null. As seen in the files on the Beast Killer Project in Sun and Moon, it took a long time between the budget for the project and the time it took to create the three Type:Null in Alola. We do know Type:Null was created before Pokemon X and Y as Gladion stealing his Type:Null at the same time the events of Black2/White2/X/Y takes place. In real life, it can take between 5-10 years for advanced projects to reach fruitition. Plus the fact none of the older characters are seen or even mentioned bar Kurt makes me believe that some of the characters from Gens 1 to 7 may have either passed away or retired from Pokemon battling.)

I love your Leah/twilight spite fic. Do you have any recs to recommend that fall under the twilight spite category.
Thank you!
I have quite a few creations on my AO3 account.
There’s a live journal that hosts links to a number of really good fanfics here. But some of the stories that stick out. I’m going to list more below the cut for those who are interested.
Tough Love - a well-earned albeit admittedly severe response to Bella’s “ultimatum” to Charlie in New Moon. It’s harsh, certainly. But given this is taking place at the part in the actual book where she just got back from galavanting off to Europe without a word to her dad to let him know what was happening, came back only to blow off him and his valid concern to whine about wanting to take a shower, talked down to him like he was a child, patronized him in every way possible, and tried to force an ultimatum that he HAS to accept Edward if he wants to remain a part of her life despite the fact that she was fully intending at this point to fake her death and shut Charlie out entirely ANYWAY.....yeah, I’m hard pressed to say it isn’t warranted.
Misery Loves Company - Sam and Emily are served a heaping dose of the truth at the hands of Sheila Uley, Sam's mother. More of Kei's Sam/Emily angst.
Hospital Rules - Real nurses don't hand out sedatives on the say-so of a stranger. Not even when the stranger is Edward Cullen.
Blindsight - A take on what kind of “monsters” the Cullens are in a more spiritual and personal sense.
Born of a Vampire and Human - where Renesmee isn’t born pretty like Bella expects
The Truth - Emily finally learns the truth behind every rolled eye and uninterested look on her wedding night.
Discipline - Charlie finds out about Bella’s stunt in Port Angeles with Jessica and decides to get her the help she needs.
It’s Mine Now - where Bella comes back to her “old” life and sees what she gave up
That’s All - Emily wants to ask Leah to be her maid of honor. It doesn't go well.
Unfair - Bella wants to have her cake and eat it too. Jacob won’t let her.
Down the Rabbit Hole - this one is...really dark. There are consequences to jumping off a cliff.
Supernatural Backup - where Charlie is more aware than the books let him be when it comes to the Cullens and the treaty with the wolves, and Alice gets a firm order to vacate.
Exclusion Zone - when Bella tries to return to her normal human friends after Edward leaves her, she doesn’t get a warm welcome
Unanimity - In New Moon, Edward refused to turn Bella so she tried to demand a vote on it from the rest of the family. They don’t respond the way she’d hoped.
The Cold Hard Truth - Similar to the previous in that Bella demands a vote and it doesn’t go as she’d like.
Operation Twilight - when the vampire aspect is taken out, the Cullens are more like a cult. This story plays it pretty straight, except for Bella being an undercover agent.
Influence - where the Volturi don’t just give up and go home.
Requiem for Charlie Swan - a hot take on Charlie and his reaction to some of Bella’s stunts in New Moon.
The Wise Man and the Fool - The resolution with the Volturi in Breaking Dawn was less of a matter of them giving up and more a matter of them simply making a tactical retreat.
One particularly good story is a crossover with Supernatural called The Wedding Crashers which can also be found on ffnet. Along with various additions and aftermath. Leah is forced to go to the wedding of Jacob and Renesmee, and she’s bringing the Winchesters and Castiel with her.
Hope you enjoy!

Aurora - movie review
Movie: Sleeping Beauty (1959)
Would I recommend: No - the movie has some good moments, but overall it didn’t keep my interest. If I can’t relate to or don’t care about the main protagonist/antagonist in your movie you’ve got a problem.
Had seen before: Yes (but couldn’t remember it)
Main movie, prequel, sequel, or midquel: Main movie
Theater or straight to video: Theater
Keep reading below for fun facts, my thoughts, and origin details (contains spoilers)!
Thoughts:
They’re so rude to the blue fairy!
I feel like the fairies should be running an orphanage, they’re so sad they’re going to have to give Aurora back, and it seems like they loved raising her so much
Yikes, not a good sign that by the time we see the prince and his horse the horse is the most interesting character so far
Okay, the prince is more than a little creepy - he overhears Aurora singing and uses details from her song to get her to trust him and like him (a complete stranger). Also, this is Phillip, he was at least 8 (possibly older) when he met her as a baby, and she’s almost 16, he must be 24 (or older)!
Aurora is a bit of an idiot… she thinks she’s in love with someone she met once (she didn’t even give her name or get his!)
King Hubert is a butt! King Stefan is just excited to finally see his daughter after all these years, and Hubert is already pushing Aurora and Phillip to move away together
The music when Maleficent is luring Aurora away is so jarring, it fits the mood of the scene very well
The prince being ambushed at the cottage is the most interesting thing to happen in the movie (it’s the only bit that surprised me at all)
The fairies tell Phillip he will have to face the rest of the dangers himself (once they free him from the dungeon), then save him from the next four or five dangers with their magic - c’mon ladies, consistency!
Maleficent needs to get a hobby, she devoted almost two decades to revenge over an insult, and takes most of it out on people not even responsible for the original insult! (I prefer in the original tales where the “evil” fairy gives her curse and moves on with her life)
CHILDREN EXPLAIN TO YOUR PARENTS - Phillip’s dad is so confused and Phillip just ignores him, explaining nothing when he shows up with Aurora after having run off earlier
Why is no one questioning the dress repeatedly changing color?
Fun facts:
Aurora is the only one of the official 12 that is a true blonde - Cinderella is a strawberry blonde, and Rapunzel is a natural brunette
Aurora is the only of the official 12 to have an abnormal eye color (her eyes are violet)
Once again a tale that has a Grimm and Perrault version! Disney draws from Perrault’s tale, but in my research I found not only Perrault’s tale of a sleeping beauty (“The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood”), but two others as well, an earlier tale (“Sun, Moon, and Talia” by Giambattista Basile), and a later tale (“Little Briar-Rose”, by the Grimm brothers). Imagine my surprise when reading them and realizing the Grimm version is the least dark of the three!
Origin: (Charles Perrault tale) In this tale a king and queen who desperately wanted children were overjoyed to finally have a baby girl. To celebrate a grand christening was held, and every fairy that could be found (seven in all) were invited to be godmothers. Beautiful settings were prepared for them, each was to be given a gold casket holding a spoon, fork, and knife, each made with gold and set with diamonds and rubies. Right as everyone was sitting down an old fairy arrived, one that had not been seen in so long most presumed her dead or bewitched.
The king immediately ordered another setting for her, but only seven golden caskets had been made, so she could not be given one. The old fairy, thinking she had been intentionally ignored, began to mutter threats to herself. One of the young fairies sitting near her heard her, and went to hide, so she could speak last and try to counteract anything the old fairy may do.
The fairies all gave beautiful gifts of talent and beauty to the princess, until the old fairy's turn. She declared that the young princess would prick her hand on a spindle and die. The last fairy, the one who had hidden, now came out to give her gift. She did not have the power to remove the curse, but was able to amend it, saying the princess would not die, but fall into a deep sleep, which would last 100 years, and at the end she would be awoken by a prince.
The king, hoping to avoid the horrible event, declared it was now forbidden, under threat of death, to use or keep a spinning wheel or spindle. Despite these efforts, when the princess was fifteen or sixteen and her parents were away she came upon an old woman in the castle spinning. Having never seen a spinning wheel she had no reason to fear it, and as soon as she went to touch it she pricked her finger and fell. Every effort was made to wake her, but it was no use. She was laid to rest in the finest room, upon a bed embroidered with gold and silver.
The fairy who had changed her curse soon arrived, and touched her wand to all in the castle except the king and queen, so that they were all frozen in time, only to awaken when their princess did, and all would be ready for her when she awoke. Shortly after the king and queen left the castle the fairy grew a forest thick with trees, brambles, and thorns around the castle, so that the princess would be safe and away from prying eyes.
A hundred years later the throne had been passed to a different family. One day while out hunting the king's son found the castle, and asked his attendants about it. Most told stories of evil magic, hauntings, or monsters, but one elderly attendant said her father told her that inside the castle lay a princess, who was waiting for a prince. This story emboldened the prince, and he decided to enter.
As soon as the prince approached the castle the thorns and brambles fell away. He made his way through the castle until he found the beautiful princess. Trembling he moved near her, and, the prince having come for her and the hundred years over, she awoke. Supper was soon prepared, and shortly after the meal was finished the prince and princess were married.
The next morning the prince returned to the city, and told his parents he had simply become lost in the forest for a time. His father believed him, but his mother was not fooled. She had noticed he was more often going hunting, and often spent nights away from home.
In the two years since their marriage the prince and princess had two children - the first a daughter, named "Dawn", the second a son, named "Day". All this time the queen was urging the prince to settle down or confide in her, but he was hesitant, as she came from a race of ogres (the king married her for her wealth), and was said to have a hard time resisting pouncing upon children.
By the end of two years the king had died, and the prince found himself on the throne, at which time he publicly announced his marriage, and had his wife and children brought from the forest. Not long after the king declared war on his neighbor, and appointed his mother to rule and care for his family in his absence.
Not even a week had passed when the queen regent summoned her chief steward, telling him for supper the next day she would eat Dawn, with a piquant sauce. When the steward went to slaughter her (she was four by now) she ran to him, and he could not do it, and instead had her hidden. He served the queen regent a lamb instead, and she declared she had never eaten anything so good.
Eight days later the queen regent summoned the steward again, this time declaring she would eat Day (who was three by now). Day was hidden away, and the queen regent was served a young goat. She again said it was delicious, but her desires arose again soon, and she told the steward she wished to eat the princess, with the same sauce as her children.
The steward, not knowing what animal could substitute for her, made up his mind that to save his own life he must take hers. He faltered when he arrived in her chamber, and told her of the command he had been given. The princess (not knowing her children had been hidden) told him to do it, so that she may be reunited with her children. The poor steward, feeling compassion for her, told her she would be reunited with them, that they had simply been hidden away. He instead served the queen regent deer.
The queen regent, planning to tell the king wolves had eaten his family, felt quite satisfied. However, as she wandered the castle one evening she heard the cries of Day, and knew she had been lied to. She ordered a huge vat be brought to the courtyard and filled with snakes and serpents of all kinds so the princess, her children, and those who had lied to her could be thrown into it the next day.
As her servants were preparing to throw them in however the king returned (much sooner than expected). Surprised, he demanded to be told what was going on. No one dared tell him, and the queen regent, instead of confronting him, threw herself into the vat and was devoured instantly. The king was saddened, but soon found comfort and consolation in his beautiful wife and children.

End of the Decade Favourite Book Tag
omg @bookcub this is such a cool idea! let’s see how well I remember reads pre-2015 😅
1. High fantasy books that are obsession-worthy idk if it’s all the way to obsession-worthy but y’all have gotta have a go at the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks. it’s complete now with 5 incredibly long books but the characters are dynamic and the worldbuilding is awesome and I can’t wait to finally finish it in 2020!
2. Urban fantasy books filled with people you want as friends  I mean, I’ve always called them rural fantasy because the story takes place in a small town but the Wolves of Mercy Falls series is so lovely and I’d love Sam and Grace as friends :3
3. Portal fantasy you fall in love with multiple times  The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis - I didn’t read these as a kid even though I owned them and loved the movies. I read them all my first semester of uni in 2013 and absolutely loved them and I’ve revisited my favourites (The Magician’s Nephew, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) several times.
4. Novella that just makes you sigh cause it’s so lovely  I just reread This Winter by Alice Oseman and it is so sweet even though it shows the characters at a very difficult time in their lives. It ties in with Heartstopper and Solitaire and just got a beautiful new cover too
5. Historically inaccurate but laugh out loud  [skipped]
6. Satire that makes you reconsider your whole world view  The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness - It’s got great commentary on the “chosen one” tropes we see so often in YA, has wonderful diversity and is just a really lovely story
7. Happy, happy, happy and sad, sad, sad A Note of Madness by Tabitha Suzuma - I reread this duology in February and I was amazed at how well she balances the happy moments with the sad ones in these two novels
8. No, I’m not too old for kids’ books, what are you talking about??? The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer - I bought the first one because I loved Glee but I got totally sucked into the fairy tale universe he created. I can’t wait to dive in again with the sequel series A Tale of Magic...
9. I’m also not too old for picture books either and never will be  I’ve been loving the Books to Drive Kids Crazy series by Beck & Matt Stanton. They’re loads of fun!
10. Whoa, never expected that ending and to have that much fun!!! I’m gonna go with Inheritance by Christopher Paolini, the last of the Eragon books, even though I remember only one scene from it 😅 I definitely need to reread the series but I remember being really surprised by the ending and so sad that the series that made me want to be a writer was over.
11. Like I’m scared, but I’m happy about it All of Christina Henry’s fairy tale retellings. Lost Boy freaked me the heck out because I wasn’t expecting the horror elements lol but The Girl In Red is my favourite because disabled leading lady of colour 👍
12. Classically favourite  The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien - the movies really cemented this as my favourite of Tolkien’s books but I just love Bilbo so much and this book always cheers me up.
13. Party in your ears  If I Stay by Gayle Forman - for the movie more than the book. the songs they wrote for Adam’s band in the movie are awesome and I listen to them all the time
14. Boom!!! Pow!!! Wham!!!  The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater - ^^^ the sounds of this book destroying my heart
15. Oh wow, that’s me!! A Scandal By Any Other Name by Kimberly Bell - the first time I ever read a book about someone with spina bifida, like me. It absolutely blew my mind and was the final sign I needed to start writing about characters like me because the feeling of being represented and understood absolutely blew me away <3
16. I can’t stop thinking about this book The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson - it’s just a wonderful exploration of how victims cope with emotional abuse and I will forever be mad that the Netflix series made it Scary™ instead of exploring its actual themes and characters. I just want a faithful adaptation okay!
17. A book you got from Tumblr that made it to your fave both of CG Drews’ books - A Thousand Perfects Notes and The Boy Who Steals Houses. two beautiful novels about teenagers dealing with abuse and poverty and finding ways to save themselves. I absolutely love them and I hope to the great publishing gods that she gets to keep writing forever <3
18. A book you had high expectations for and then the author OVER delivered Amelia Westlake (Was Never Here) by Erin Gough - I tend to be pretty tough on Australian YA because I’m always looking for it to capture my experience as an Australian teenager and this novel is one of the closest I’ve found. the struggles Will and Harriet face with their teachers and parents and friends felt so true and I just loved that. I’ll sing this book’s praises to the moon and back 💫

Just send me “BTS Member - Story name” and I’ll work on it this week! I hope you all are looking forward to it just as much as I am. Have a great week!

𝐁𝐓𝐒 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐱 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫 | angst, romance, mature oneshot   ― 𝘐𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴. 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬.  XENIA: ❛ Greek: ξενία, romanized: xenía, meaning "guest-friendship" or 𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮. ❜  ―𝐓ake cover, whoever dares go to sea. Take cover for she is not inviting and does not caress with a gentle hand. She is a force to be reckoned and will toss and turn and throw you to shore. She'll remind you why the waters are dark and cold till you wander no more. But the sea wasn't always this rageful. She was once peaceful and steady and calm. She'd push sailors and their ships and made sure they'd return to their loved ones that have waited too long. Because back then, the sea 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘯 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵. No one truly knew where the heart of the sea was kept. Protected and bound in the depths of the ocean where no man could touch, see or reach. A place where even light couldn't creep in, take a peek, see what the sea's heart looked like, felt like. 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘰𝘯𝘦. The story goes that a man tossed overbored a trading ship, slowly sunk and gave up his air. She, even if not one to interfere, could still feel his slowly withering heartbeat reverberate along the waters. So slow, calm, and gentle, almost like her own. And she pushed him ashore, watched from afar within the rocks, pitch-black hair flowing with the ocean breeze, dancing in the air like the algae in the ocean. She watched his almost lifeless body so still, like her waters when she slept. And she got closer, close enough to touch dry land, close enough to lean over him and take in the handsome man. She got close enough to take the water right out of his lungs just as he took the breath out of her own. She took a step back as he coughed and sat up, his lungs filling with something other than her. But the sea was a curious one and this man was so close, and even when his dark eyes met hers and when he asked who she was. She couldn't deny him an answer. "I am the sea, of course." And the man furrowed his brows, slowly standing, slowly approaching, she left one foot in the water, the other on sand, watching with a glinting wonder as he came closer. 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦𝘳. "The sea is a woman?" He questioned. And she smiled, laughed, crashed her waves in wonder. "There is nothing else the sea would be if not a woman, if not a natural mother, a natural destroyer." He lifted a brow as she lifted her nose, her pride swimming along her bare chest. "𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥." He whispered. 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘥. The see suddenly fell quiet, calm, 𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭. A reaching hand searched curiously for hers and she allowed him to. And all at once, as they touched, the sea furiously shook. Crashing waves along the rocks, shaky waters far off land. The fish swimming aimlessly and the sea's heart shining, screaming: 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙜𝙤! Indigo blue! deep within the darkness. And she asked, "𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶?" shaky voice like her waters. And with a smile maybe too sweet, he answered. "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐧." And that is a tale for another time at most, for the moon was cursed to live amongst the men until he were gifted light to shine down upon. Realizing the man was indeed no man at all, the sea pulled away and he pulled her back. "𝘿𝙤𝙣'𝙩 𝙜𝙤," he whispered. And she stayed, slowly rehearsing what would become their usual dance, day after day as they met when the sun took its rest. And the tail goes that the sea fell in love with the moon and the moon loved her back. They touched, kissed, made love to one another, giving sailors a swift sale and people a view. The sea showed it's hospitality, the deep blue waters turning turquoise when it giggled. The villages were teeming with fish and food and sales as the sea found her home in the moon's arms. Until one day. Chest rich with unsparing love, the sea swam down, and down and lower. Retrieving her one true precious possession to gift to her lover. The light could finally see her Safire blue heart as she reached out her hand and placed it upon his palm. And her smile shone like the sun against the coral reef, but it never reached his lips. Because the moon knew what this meant as he held the light with all his might. And he cried as leaned in to reach her lips one last time, touch her one last time, love her one last time. Because it was indeed the last. In a blink of an eye, he was no longer there, the blinding light above shining in her indigo blue. That was 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩. "𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚!" But he never spoke back, and he never returned. Yet he pulled while she pushed and she screamed. "𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦, 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘨𝘰!" She broke his curse while he broke her heart. And they danced every day, not a waltz, but a tango. Indigo blue turning red as she wrecked ships and sunk men. So take cover, whoever dares go to sea. Take cover for she is not inviting and does not caress with a gentle hand. For the sea has a broken heart and she shows no mercy to no men. Take cover and beware of the lady in blue, with her deep-sea dark locks and her 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘯.

Juggernaut by warschach  ( E | 19,357+ | 4/? )
What had four legs, a tail, fur all over, and went 'woof woof' in the dead of night?
Katsuki's soulmate, Izuku Midoriya, the werewolf.
Which is funny-if you're fucked up in the head and you're going to get real fast why Katsuki was a special Frosted Flakes brand of 'fucked'- because Katsuki's profession clocked out monsters' time card early.
It should be fine.
Narrator: It was, in fact, not fine.
(or Katsuki meets his soulmate at the worst time and under the worst circumstances, tries to deny his feelings while battling monsters, attending class-yea,no-, and trying to piece together the giant gaps in his past. so adulthood except everything does want to kill him.)

Friction by warschach  ( M | 20,057 | 3/5 )
Izuku's getting married today.
To an alpha he hasn't met and doesn't know beyond his name and the kind of strain he was born with; lion if anyone was curious. And it wouldn't be that bad of a situation but Izuku's an alpha too with a tiger strain, and you know the spiel about alpha-alpha unions more fighting than loving in those bedsheets.
So there's a high probability this whole sham marriage might go up in flames if they're not careful; and when was the last you heard about alphas being careful, huh?
(or Izuku makes the right dumb decision to marry the right alpha under the wrong conditions)
Through Lies and Deceit by Shadowolven ( E | 15,351+ | 2/? )

They've spent many years together in training and off, and tonight, on an evening full of celebration, they were given one last opportunity to relax and be the youth the town expected them to be.
But, things go terribly wrong when the truth becomes discovered: Katsuki Bakugou is not a human.

Fantasy/Werewolf AU Izuku only survived the winter of his fourth year because a tribe of werewolves took him in. He became one of theirs, a son of wolves. Guilt made his wolven mother return him to humans once the seasonal melt arrived, but that didn't stop him from making a promise with someone... a someone who, however precious, he forgot in order to live.
Call of the Moon by SurelyHeavenWaits ( E | 44,662 | 11/11 )
Bakugou is a werewolf and his wolf hungers for one thing- well, one person. His childhood best friend. And he refuses to let his wolf hurt him.

Mine by bkdkwritingsdump ( M | 2,505 | 1/1 )
Izuku’s just a humble alchemist who lives in a cottage in the woods… with his werewolf boyfriend, Katsuki. Every month, when he can no longer control his wolf instincts, he gets particularly possessive, maybe even too possessive. (He’s still a sweet little sap under it all, though.)
Let Me In, Let Me In by osakakitty ( E | 3,131 | 1/1 )
Izuku finally has a day off from vampire hunting, and decides to spend it binging candy and television. His werewolf boyfriend has other ideas.
Halloween Exchange gift for Bubblyn!
Wolf’s Bane by tenneiah ( E | 24,041+ | 5/? )
It’s a world ruled by the humans.
It’s been 30 years of wolves getting hunted and killed by them. 30 years of prejudice, taboos and discrimination between both species. 30 years since the leader of the werewolves was murdered, trying to achieve peace.
Still after 30 years, a nerd named Izuku finds himself assisting an injured wolf in the middle of the night, in the heart of Tokyo.
[ Genocide References | Graphic Depictions Of Violence ]
The Hunting Party by MarionetteFtHJM ( E | 50,488+ | 12/? )
Izuku had gotten himself into many messes over the years. He’d once got stuck in the back of a restaurant after hours because he’d been too shy to ask someone to let him out of the staff bathroom he’d locked himself into. Or that time he got stuck on a roof of a house saving a random cat for some little girl’s sake. Or when his mom left him home alone for the first time and he invited four neighborhood stray dogs into the house and they’d made a mess out of everything. Come to think of it, most of his messes involved animals. Comically he thinks, this is no different.
(Alternatively: Izuku and Katsuki get caught in the crossfire, fake date and then solve some problems for some dangerous beings)
The Reason It's Wrong by Merrywetherweather ( T | 10,247+ | 4/? )
Izuku Midoriya is a Were species, a type of creature that has the ability to shift into a specific animal. As a rabbit Were, his mother had always taught him that
1) Weres had to keep themselves hidden, even from other Were species
2) He had to keep his identity a secret to protect himself from humans
and
3) He would most assuredly be hunted and killed if a predator Were found him out.
Bakugou Katsuki is such a predator Were. But his head's a mess, his primal wolf instincts conflicted about the newest hunt he's taken up.
An animal Wereau.
Vampires
red like wine by wbtrashking (fan_nerd) ( M | 12,593 | 1/1 )
Katsuki stops, startled by something crashing through the bushes. He hopes it's just an animal knocking into a tree, but his instincts have prepared him for the worst. He comes face to face with a deeply-wounded man, his eyes feral and dark. Blood drips from his clothes when the man falls to his knees.

For most, the zombie apocalypse was something they had started out with. For others, they were born in it. Izuku Midoriya was the unlucky one out of many to be born inside of one.

Walking in the night sky by Daiako (Achrya) ( M | 5,414+ | 3/? )
Bakugou is your typical mildmannered dragon shifter and biker, turned out from his own world and forced to live in the human one. Nothing special about him at all. He's content to move from backwater town to backwater town, keeping to himself, and making no attachments. At least, he was until he met Izuku, a waiter too cute for his own good, in a strange town that refuses to let him leave...

Hard to Say by halcyonwhispers ( T | 8,390+ | 2/? )
Izuku is a Halfling, born after his faerie father spirited away his mom and then left her behind. Never quite fitting in with the humans or any of the supernatural beings in his small town, Izuku hoped that going to a diverse college in the big city will help him finally make friends.
Katsuki’s family has been powerful witches for generations, and he’s no different. Talented and a proclaimed genius to boot, he knew he shouldn’t waste his time on this dumbass (disgustingly cute) half-blood.
Or,
two idiots fall in love and don’t get that the other’s awkward cues are just a result of romantic tension.

Katsuki is a summoner, a damn good one. Which makes accidently calling forth a timid Incubus and ending up bonded to him all the more infuriating. It only gets worse when he realizes he can feel the demons emotions and that it's is very very hungry. The only way to quiet the bond is satisfy the demon’s needs and complete the spell.

The Bonds that Bind Us by DMMegsie ( E | 44,568+ | 7/? )
Travelling with his trading caravan, Izuku is on his way home when they stumble across an already heated battle in the middle of an open field in the dead of night. Being mistaken as part of attacking party, Izuku finds himself fighting off the fabled Demon King of the Mountains of Fire.
However, during the battle, Izuku breaks a necklace on the Demon King that held an unspoken promise from his mother from long ago, which changes everything.
Nothing ever as it seems, nor is it simple. As an omega of elven descent, Izuku has a lot to learn about the greater world and himself. The same could be said of the half dragon lord of the mountain.

all gifted by fitzefitcher ( T | 9,129+ |  4/?)
The thing about gifts is that they're meant to be given, they're meant to be shared; so Izuku will take his gifts, so freely given to him, and share them with all he holds dear.
Izuku is born without any gifts, as his kind often are, to a witch mother and salamander father, on one sweltering night in July.

The Arsonist vs The Tree by Annoying_Tourist ( M | 2,979+ | 1/? )
The great dragon Katsuki had spent the past few centuries cultivating his reputation as the fearless ‘Beast of the Western Lands’. Everywhere he goes, he leaves a trail of fire and ash in his wake. But soon his life of treasure hoarding and raiding villages doesn’t seem as fulfilling as it used to be. Was it time for him to settle down, make himself a permanent home and start living a more peaceful and humble life?
Naturally, Katsuki decided that the ‘next step’ in his life was to build himself a grand temple next to Musutafu, the biggest village in the Western Lands. The humans would learn to worship him eventually.
The tree spirit Izuku- an actual deity and self-proclaimed protector of Musutafu- takes issue with this.
Reparations by Merrywetherweather ( M | 37,459+ | 15/? )
When Izuku was a child, he was told to never enter the woods. But being in possession of the shortest attention span a four year old is capable of, he ignores his mother's warnings and stumbles after a very pretty butterfly. What he finds, instead, is a friend. His first and only friend.
Izuku is in his twenties now and he no longer runs to meet with the childhood friend who pushed him away so long ago. His mother and their village are on edge because he's way past his presenting years and he still hasn't had his first heat. He's defective. An omega who can't present can't find a mate or have kids, not like he's ever been inclined to find someone or have children. After leaving the confines of his small minded human village and wandering out into the woods once again, in search of a better life, that all changes when he runs into the one person he hoped to meet but never thought he'd see again.

You, who didn't listen by Preintice  ( E | 7,601+ | 1/4 )
Time always was a blurry conception made by humans. It implied a race against time. It implied choices and pressure. However for those whose Time had no impact on, it felt like languorous torture. Where you try to find an objective of your own, either be it dying or playing, but grow quickly bored from it.
Katsuki (to become Bakugo) was in search for recognition, power and chaos.
Deku (to become Izuku Midoriya) was in search for redemption, acceptance and comprehension.
And together, they fell.

An Old Church Ground by KingHugin ( Not rated | 6,526 | 1/1)
Ever heard the legend of the Grim?
They say it’s a large black dog, an omen of death. That if you’re unfortunate enough to ever catch a glimpse of one. Then well… you never really live to tell the tale.
That’s only one of the legends and not the one of this story, though I guess it still ends in death.
Or a story where Katsuki is the Grim of an old church ground, and Izuku is… well he’s something else.
