However, from 2023, Ukraine celebrates Europe Day together with the EU member states. The relevant decree was signed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In the European Union, Europe Day is celebrated on May 9 as a symbol of unity and peace on the continent. This date was approved in 1985 at the European Council summit in Milan, since May 9, 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman proposed to create a new organization in Europe in the form of a “supranational community.”

“Our Europe is a voluntary union of nations, communities and millions of very different people, a unity of values. And this is the true European strength,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in his remarks on the occasion of Europe Day.
