Thank you for crediting the works you post. I follow the wolf tag and it's starting to get flooded (by that I mean more than usual) by not only unsourced theft and misinformed folks but also by very tricksy AI pieces so I really appreciate you!
Of course! As an artist and creator, I understand the importance of giving proper credit (thought really, you don't need to be a creator yourself to get that, just a decent human being 🙄)
And as someone running an informative blog, I take the responsibility of sharing accurate information seriously.
I've been away from Tumblr for a while, but just the other day I came across my first piece of AI-generated wolf content, and it was such a strange moment to realise, "Oh, even in this topic now".
Misinformation can have deadly consequences, wolves’ lives are literally at stake. The thought that AI could fuel even more misinformation about these endangered animals was quite an unsettling realisation.
Anyway, thank you for your kind message and thanks for sticking around, I appreciate you! 💖

did you know that they (colossal biosciences, the same guys that made the woolly mouse) made dire wolves? also some more red wolves! :3
Thank you for writing me about this! ❤️ I have lots of questions and remarks about this, but I don't have the time right now to get into that, so for now I'll just share your message along with this video, so that people can look into this themselves!

EDIT: Read the comments on this message, helpful starting points! Thank you community 🙏

Hi! Thanks for your wonderful job, you have helped me a lot learning more about wolves, please, can you tell us more about wolves skeleton and anatomy? And any drawing tips you learned about wolves? Thank you very much!
Hi, these tags might be useful:

Regarding drawing wolves, I think one of the most valuable advices is one that could be applied to anything, which is to actually lóók and then draw, instead of to assume and then draw. If that makes any sense?
Even when doing life drawing, we often subconsciously tend to think/assume "oh the ears are probably shaped something like thiiiiis" instead of actually looking and observing.
Look and observe and look and look and then look some more. Train your eyes to observe how things actually look. I don't know how to better explain it like this, but I hope it makes any sense, lol. Good luck!

Hi, I'm writing a book About wolves. I have been able to find great information about behaviors. It's regions and all sorts of stuff. But I just cannot find any information about how Wolf genetics work if you have any informatio (Such as: What the genes are called, How they work ect.) I'd love to hear it, In the meantime I'll keep doing my research and see what I can find.
Hmmm, I wouldn't know either. Have you checked the book "Wolves: Behavior, Ecology and Conservation" by Mech and Boitani? I don't have it here with me at the moment so I can't check, but it's an extremely elaborate book so you might want to check that out. Best of luck to you!
Also, I'll post this publicly so that if people do know something, they can comment on this post!

i have a bit of an unusual question for you,
but first let me say thank you so much for your blog! i love wolves so much and learning even more about them is something i value very much!
onto my question, i see talk about rare “blue” coated grey wolves (apologies in advance for the taxidermy photos)
is this just elderly black colored wolves who have lost some of their pigment and greyed?
is it a coat only seen when wolves are molting?
what is this special and rare blue coat color??

Hello, what a nice message and question, thank you!
Just like humans, wolves their fur grays as they age. This is particularly noticeable in the development of a gray or silver mask on their faces, like you can clearly see on the two photos below.
Some wolves may have naturally had a silver or grayish coat colour or hue, making it a bit more challenging to tell if the colour is caused by ageing.

EDIT: have a look at @eregyrn-falls's comments on this post, they're doing a much better job at explaining

when I first saw your url I thought about the chant the werewolf guy from soul eater does to turn into a werewolf 😭 his werewolf form doesn’t even look close to a wolf
He chants "wolves wolves"? 😂 The reason my username is wolveswolves is because I suddenly had the inspiration to create a blog about wolves and I wanted it NOW and the username 'wolves' was already taken so in my enthousiasm/hurry the first thing I thought of was to just add another 'wolves' lol

That wolf with the pink on its nose that you recently reblogged, could it be caused from scarring? Like the pink is healed skin from a recent injury?
Good morning! Yes it could be, but since the discolouration also appears on the skin around the eyes and on the lower lip, it's more likely to be a skin discolouration
(Referring to this post)

Anonymous submitted:
Wolf babies are referred to as pups NOT cubs. If you are giving answers to people you should at least know the correct name or you look like an idiot. I won’t listen to anyone who calls them “cubs”….. they aren’t bears.
Hello! I don’t have to explain myself, but I think this might be a good reminder in general:
English isn’t my mother tongue, and I speak four languages. I don’t mind people pointing out my language errors - in fact, I’ve always invited people to point them out so that I can learn from them.
This way, I actually learned a lot about the English language. I always appreciated that people on here were so gentle with me, and that they were willing to dedicate some of their time and enegry to help me.
I used to study a lot of Dutch papers on wolves. Translating to English, it could sometimes get a little confusing. Also, sometimes in English papers wolf pups would be referred to as wolf cubs. So you’re broaching an interesting topic, since I still don’t know for sure whether ‘wolf cubs’ is linguistically incorrect or not.
But I think even more importantly to me;
If I may be so free to offer you a suggestion, I think it could be helpful to you to check in with yourself and see why you react so harshly and strongly to this. Are you maybe handling yourself in a very harsh way, or maybe subconsciously don’t allow yourself to make mistakes and therefore project the same harsh judgement on others.
I wish for you to be able to treat yourself and others with patience and acceptance. I believe it will make your own life and the lives of others easier and nicer. I really wish that for everybody! And I hope you’ll have a good weekend, anon!
Also to make up for this evangelic ramble, have a smiling wolf

And now I’m going to turn off anon. I know messages with a tone like this say nothing about me and everything about internal conflicts of the sender, but I don’t have the space for it right now.
Thank you though for all the wonderful interactions with all you beautiful people I get to participate in!
(Also, I bet a lot of people are now super curious too whether or not ‘wolf cub’ is linguistically correct 🤭 So if anybody knows, I’d love to hear!)

Excuse me. Infant wolves are referred to as snufflywuzzyfluffs. Not, as some have said, cuddlycutiecues. If you persist in this error, I shall destroy Spain.
Thank you
Also this made me laugh 🤭

Hello! Why do wolves/dogs have dew claws & how do they not get overgrown on wild wolves? it doesn't seem like they touch the ground very much to get worn down...
(Edited; original reply contained some false/misleading information)
Hi! Typically, wolves only have front dew claws but no rear dew claws. Some do, which most likely is due to cross breeding with dogs ("dewclaws in wolves have been generally regarded as a clue of hybridization with dogs").
About the overgrown part and why they have them in the first place; good question that I don't know the answer to, I've never read anything about that. If anyone knows, please share!
@trustthapo added this information on the topic: “The front claws will get worn from running. Watch some slow motion videos of wolves running and you can see them making contact with the ground. They also use them to grip and hold objects, which will also wear them down.“
