The Beautiful Pine Warbler is Apparently on His Own
Envined The shy little pine warbler (Setophaga pinus) that showed up here a few weeks ago has now become a regular at my feeding station. At first I just got glimpses of yellow from time to time up high in the oaks. Eventually, he began coming down closer and once in a while grabbing a seed or a mealworm. Now I see him almost every day both in the trees and at the station. Interestingly, I have…

So many warblers! I carved most of the top two today and just finished the drawing for the bottom left. Hoping to get them done and printed on tote bags for a birding festival this weekend

Pine Warblers are Energetic and Colorful Winter Visitors
Pining for You Every winter I get a few pine warblers (Setophaga pinus) that show up in the woods around my house. Most of the time they are pretty shy and not easy to photograph. They usually stay either in the underbrush or up in one of the oak trees in my yard. They seem to prefer areas that are thick and well covered. This little male was like that too when he first showed up, but I guess he…

It is springtime. Many insect-eating birds have already come back north. But the snow sometimes strikes quite late. Many birds seen here eat insects and other small creatures, exclusively.
At least the duck can find some left over water vegetation and the bluebird can eat some rotten berries.
But what does the swallow do in times like these? Or the warbler and the phoebe?
I watch then frantically looking for food, that probably is not there.
The species seen in this post are as follows:
Wood Duck
Eastern Bluebird
Yellow-rumped Warber
Eastern Phoebe
Barn Swallow
Tree Swallow
