New follower here, and new Ghost fan in general, hasn't yet been a year since I became a fan, anyway, with all of the Ghoul Kit content you have made it has me wondering,
Who was the first couple to become parents, and what was Sister Imperator's reaction?
Tumblr media
MIST/DELTA/PEBBLE/ZEPHYR WERE. I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL AND EVERYONE CAN FIGHT ME ABOUT IT!!!!!!!
In my personal interpretation, it's hard for ghouls to conceive as their bodies are not adapted to the topside as much as they'd like for them to be. They haven't evolved to include that possibility, so their body still takes the environment as unknown and unsafe. But it's not impossible!
Mist was the carrier and as a water ghoul, she was able to have a clutch. It was kind of planned, also not kind of planned. All four of them had agreed that if they had children, it's something everyone wants but if it doesn't happen, then it simply doesn't happen. Then not even a month later, tadddaaa! Triplets!
Alpha joined the poly later on in Mist's pregnancy but was still super excited and happy about it. They honestly all were.
Buuuutttt. On the dark side, it opened the higher-ups eyes to the possibility it could happen. They could potentially breed their own ghouls in the ministry if they had the volunteers, or even surrogates. Obviously for a "better cause." Higher-ups started poking and prodding at Mist and keeping up-to-date with her pregnancy and it pissed him off bad. Sister Imperator was the first non-ghoul to see Mist, without her consent, just a day after giving birth.
She made some undertones in her comments about how "fulfilling" the kits will be "for future use." How Mist has opened the Clergy's eyes.
It made... All of them nauseous... She eventually left but definitely started keeping track of certain things in private. Nothing cruel ever happened to the triplets or any of the parents besides them be gawked at or fawned over by fellow ghouls. Papa Terzo was obviously super fucking happy!! Spoiled them all rotten and loved being a grandpa, just showing off the kits and pictures on his phone like; "LOOK AT MY GRANDKITS!!!!!"
But TLDR; It made Sister's mind start thinking about expansion and change. And when she's thinking about expansion and change, it's never had a good outcome now has it?

11, 17, 24, and 30 for that oc ask game!!! Your choice👀✨ I’m finally able to ask you wahhhh
Hi Stitches!!!!!!
Ohhhhhhhhhh GREAT questions!!!!!!! Hmmmmm lemme see ;D
11) What was your inspiration for your OC?
Weeeeeellll hahaha very interesting one to answer XD Because the stupidest, randomest stuff can inspire me XD Sooooo
Ryn-Well, in a way, she started off as a way more badass and cool self insert and the story kinda took off on it's own. Now it is this full, epoch and I can't wait to share it with people.
Seraphina-was inspired by my haircut XD I really wanted to dye my hair red and cut it short kinda like Sabine's is in S 4 of Rebels and I fell in love with it. Then I got to thinking, what if Crosshair had a girlfriend and I just kinda started playing with the idea of a redhead because I could see him with someone spunky and fun and it just sort of took off from my obsession with the color red :D
Valia-was born when I read a reader insert story that was actually a Crosshair x reader but the way it started was saving Echo from the Techno union and I thought, well if the character was in love with Tech, this is how I'd tell the story (I loved the original so much. It's on Ao3 but I think the owner deactivated their account :'( )
Leyla-she sort of was born when I was playing with the idea of a Hunter x jedi fic idea that just sort of evolved to be more OC than a one-shot thing and it just evolved. Also, I was playing with the idea of someone the complete oposite of Ryn and how Hunter would react to her.
Zephyr-was born when I was reading an AMAZING fic by @ladysongmaster called Call of the Sea which is flipping amazing with Rex as a merman. Of course Hunter is my favorite so I started wondering what Hunter would be like as a merman and the story sort of evolved from there :D
17) If your OC has kids, are they a good parent? Do they ever feel guilty if they have to leave them?
Seraphina will eventually have kids (she also looks after her little brother who is kinda like her kid. He has a huge crush on Omega eventually :D She is a great parent and definitely feels guilty any time she feels like they have to part. Right now, I'd love for Hunter and Ryn to have kids but I don't have an idea for that quiet yet. I think they'd all make great mothers honestly.
24) Can they play any instruments? If so, what do they play?
Ryn and Zephyr are the only musical ones. Ryn sings like a nightingale and is nicknamed "the Siren of Kamino" She has a necklace which is a small music box that she can change up the songs of lullabies. It was one of the few things she took with her when she left home. Zephyr can play the flute and the violin.
30) My OC and your OC are friends. This isn't a question. I'm not asking. (How do they respond?)
Ryn: Hi! *waves aggressively* I love making new friends. I'm delighted to meet you!
Seraphina: *grins mischievously wondering what sort of trouble they'd be game for* *holds out hand to shake agressively* Want to hit up the rang? Great bonding time!
Valia: *shyly waves* uh, hello *smiles brightly* So what do you think about the chemical balances in the brain and how do they affect people? Do you think friendship is more than just a feeling?
Leyla: *maybe breaks a small smile and bows* Delighted to meet your acquaintance. If there is anyway I may serve or help you, do please instruct me how. Shall we meditate a while together?
Zephyr: *smiles sweetly with an adoptive look in her eye* Hello dear, so glad to meet you. You need anything? Food, blankets, comforts? Be sure to come to me if there's anything you need. I'll stop by later with some cookies and how about dinner tomorrow?
Thanks for the chance to talk about my OCs Stitch!!!!!!

They Knew She'd Still Exist At The End Of The World; There With The Crows And Cockroaches
{Ambrose A. Asher; Quartermaster & First Mate of "The Zephyr"}
Tumblr media
Name: Ambrose Agrippina Asher
Ambrose - Greek Origin; "Immortal," "Divine"; Derived From "Ambrosia," The Food Of The Gods Agrippina - Latin Origin; "Born Feet First" Asher - Hebrew Origin; "Fortuned," "Blessed," "Happy One."
Age: 17
Pronouns: She/Her 🏳️‍⚧️
Sexuality: Unknown
Ambrose thinks she would have known, in another lifetime, one where she was perhaps less damaged, but for now... she couldn't even start to tell you. She couldn't even tell herself.
Tumblr media
Ambrose A. Asher was born the second heir to the Great Asher Family. Conceived 18 years after her brother, Ambrose grew up in a time where her parents had no true need for children. Their lives were underway, their schedules finally cleared to "do the important stuff" they always put on hold for Ash. It wasn't as if Ambrose wasn't loved or cared for... but she always knew she was the reluctant first. Her parents always had to find childcare when they were called for an emergency Senate meeting or when they went out with friends. Ambrose ended up talking to more people 5-10x her age in the Senate than she will ever spend with those her age in her lifetime. It was fine, everything was fine. They had pretty good tips, and they liked to help out with her homework, but she could never truly stop herself from looking at her parents across the room with each year that passed. It was fine, everything was fine. She was more mature for her age! She never goofed off like the other boys her age, was interested in staying quiet and out of the spotlight instead of begging her parents for more of their attention for games or awards, and she got some of the best grades in her entire age. She didn't accept their awards or offers, though, because she had duties to attend to. Earn her right through combat, go to college, work with the Senate. Marry. Have children. Be a good spare. Let everything happen, it doesn't need to be commented on. Their unhappiness doesn't need to be commented on.
Tumblr media
Godly Parentage: Legacy of Primordial Chaos
Mortal Parentage: Lucian and Alexandra Asher, the current Heads of the Asher Family
While the Asher Family's connection to Primordial Chaos can never be officially proven nor confirmed, many suspected to just have naturally evolved over the centuries into being true. Just as the Greek Demigods slowly started to gain powers as the interpretations of Greek Myths started to evolve. While one could trace their actual heritage, the Asher Family and their Patron are just so mixed now that it's pointless to make those decisions.
Weapons: Hand-to-Hand Combat
Ever since she was young, Ambrose had always gravitated more towards strength-based weapons. Swords, Nunchucks, Knives, anything that cracked instead of sailed, and when nothing of that capacity was available during Martial Arts training, she opted to go in with her bare knuckles, earning her a lot of reprimands and weariness among her teachers and peers for the way she bared her bloodied fists triumphantly, dutifully keeping them clean afterwards for another spar. They tried to teach her the finer crafts of weaponry and combat, of stealth and efficiency, but Ambrose always returned back where she came. When she finally graduated into the Fourth Cohort, her peers hailed her for her brutal efficiency and stamina, placing her among their heavy-hitters to hold down the fort anywhere their centurions placed them. Ambrose was always one of the last to fall, if she ever failed.
Powers: Chronokinesis
At the tender, confusing age of 13, Ambrose was given the ability to manipulate time's relation to space. Within the week, she could minutely slow down the time it took for objects to fall down, taking the path (space) it will take and slowing the rate of time down. Within the month, she could start to increase the area she had control over at any given time. Within two years, she could displace her entire bedroom whenever she needed a break or forgot to do something. And by the time she entered the legion, she was refining her spatial awareness enough to use during combat. Not often, though. Rarely, even. Honestly, the more you displace time, the more... fake reality comes to seem. You start to forget your own priorities, your own deadlines, the reason for basically everything. You have all the time in the world until you remember you've forgotten what human touch feels like or why you want to be alive. Ambrose wants to experience. She wants to be laugh, be awkward, learn history. She wants to explore the world. And anyone who says otherwise just hasn't been deprived of it often enough. She already feels disassociated enough every time she uses it for accidents or stray debris. She already feels enough like an outsider.
(The worst moment of her life comes during her first Guard Duty. She's out at one of the entrances with her self-proclaimed best friend when a group of monsters being led by a black-haired boy with an eyepatch try to force their way through the borders. Callie's the first to engage, lightheartedly joking that they'd taken the wrong route and that she's done that too, so it's all good. Ambrose isn't fast enough. Ambrose can displace the space-time continuum and she wasn't fast enough. One of the monsters cuts straight through Callie while another slams his fists straight to the ground at the boy's upheld hand. The ground shatters beneath them and starts to shake as a backup group of legionnaires come to the entrance, too caught up trying to coordinate and take in everything after the darkened, unused tunnel to truly see it coming. Ambrose wants to tear the boy's smirk straight off his face, but as the world already started to slow around her, she knew she couldn't and instead used the valuable seconds turning to minutes, turning to hours if she could help it to grab her comrades and get them to higher, more stable ground. Earthquakes aren't measured in the moment, just by the damage after, so she doesn't know what this "higher, more stable ground" is, but she channels her inner Matriarch and forces her choices to be the right one anyway. It's more power than she's ever used before, more concentration than archery and cramming combined, but she gets it done anyway and moves toward her city. There are playing school children, loud festivals, and Camp Jupiter laughing between training or battle-strategy and, honestly? She still doesn't know how she got all of them out. It was pure luck.
But she didn't save Callie. She saved everyone but Callie. H- how did she not save Callie? T-this was the worst moment of her life, right? Aren't her powers supposed to save her? Callie's parents sue for her death, for the lack of someone to protect their third daughter when she was right there. That was her job, to protect. But she didn't. She was there to, and yet their daughter is dead. Ambrose A. Asher is charged with treason and the death of Callie P. Berkshire. She is given life in prison with the later chance of a death penalty. No chance of parole. An innocent legionnaire is dead because of her. Like most things these days, she doesn't know how to feel about it.
Abilities: 11+ Years of Martial Arts Training
As soon as the Asher Parents could, Alexandra and Lucian Asher enrolled Ambrose in as many martial arts classes as they could with the coming years, determined to get ahead of that "teenaged boy energy" while they could. Within those classes, Ambrose learned a variety of disciplines, including the gender envy of watching the flexibility of the girls, of how their instructors used different language for their "fluidity" and "strength." It was always above expectations while, among the boys, they were just glad they didn't "use their strength again." Perhaps there was something there in gender inequality, but that wasn't her focus at the time. She wanted to be more like the girls. Work just as hard as them. Be just as flexible, just as surprising, just as empowering as they were. At the ripe age of 10, Ambrose declared she wanted to be a girl and her parents, simply just trying to get budgeting and deal with riots, signed it off without checking it twice. As long as she didn't continue to get in their way or grab more of their attention, she could have whatever she wanted. Ambrose ended up switching names with her brother Ash, who had been trying out names that never quite fit but hers did. It was the first and probably only real time they truly, tangibly bonded with their age difference. Ambrose was never going to compete in general, but she still pursued the sport among her peers, teaching the boys respect and learning from the girls on how to be one. The world was filled with a lot of hate at the time, yes, but, in their little corner of the earth, nobody truly cared.

philia 1 2 and 4 for rowen
1. Does your OC have a Best Friend? If they do then how long have they known each other and how did they meet? If they don't then do they have a close group of friends they love equally? Or are they more of a loner?
i’m such a fucking sucker for siblings as best friends ok. rowen has never had a friend she loved and understood better than evander. a lot of that stems from their childhood where rowen did not get along particularly well with any of her peers (overdeveloped sense of justice etc etc) and evander was willing to sacrifice his admittedly pretty shallow childhood friends to make sure his sister didn’t end up alone. their partnership is flawless and now they make some money killing people about it. not exactly evander’s preferred profession, but i digress. him and rowen are absolutely unstoppable and wouldn’t trade each other for the world.
2. Does your OC find it easy to make friends? Or are there barriers to them doing so? If so then are these due to issues of inclination, communication, or something else entirely?
it’s much easier for rowen to make friends now than it was when she was younger. she knows how to find her people. rowen’s connections are primarily made through experience and shared ideas, so when she finds someone with a similar kind of fire as her, no matter how subdued it may be in them, she has an easy time bringing it out and cultivating that friendship. it’s the kind of thing that really transcends age and personal history, which is why people like zephyr and alya aren’t intimidated by her. she’s definitely not someone you immediately think of as especially socially adept, but she has her moments.
4. Do they believe in love at first sight? Have they ever developed a crush or romantic (or erotic) fixation upon a stranger based on their appearance alone?
believing in love at first sight is a no. she certainly believes in attraction at first sight, but not love. that’s pretty easily seen with grace. it’s not her fault that grace looked so strikingly gorgeous in comparison to the shitty quality newspaper photos she’s gathered for intel. so that was a pretty immediate crush. …which wasn’t great considering that the two were not exactly allies yet when they first met. rowen and grace’s relationship evolved pretty gradually, but has also always been founded on their mutual attraction to each other. the love part in terms of emotional bonding gets a little messy, but it’s there and it’s important.

If you're interested here's my thoughts on how Laila would view the rest of the gang
Zephyr - Would definitely admire how kind and self-sacrificing he is. I can actually imagine these two being good friends because they have a lot of the same core values. They both love people and want to make them happy at their own expense. The difference is Laila lacks a Badger model and often knows when to pull back to keep from stretching herself too thin and she would probably want to encourage Zephyr to do the same. Also if she ever found out about his injury and his worries about how Skye would react she would tell him he's really silly for thinking Skye would leave him over it and she's lucky to have him 🤣
Leander - Ngl she'd probably have a crush on this dude. He's just her type. Arrogant, snarky, charismatic, a risk-taker? Yeah, she'd definitely crush on him LMAO. I can see her casually flirting with him for fun if they ever crossed paths. She wouldn't be off-put by his bluntness but would probably return with her own snarky comments. I can see her playing it cool with Skye like "hey you seen Leander around lately?" and Skye being really confused at what she sees in him. 🤣
Hal - She'd find him fascinating and would probably want to try and get to know him better. She'd be SO curious about his immortality and his opinions on the world and things he's seen and been through. I can see Hal probably being very resistant to how nosy she is LOL but she would be perfectly polite about it.
Kieran - These two have similar desires as Lion primaries who want to make a mark on the world and be powerful and famous and special. With how angry he is I can imagine he would probably appeal to Laila's empathy since she's often drawn to wounded individuals and wants to show them kindness and understanding. How the relationship evolves would depend on how Kieran responded to it I guess 🤣
This is such a cool summary of their dynamics I wanted to keep it in my ask box longer😂 so cute to read.
I didn't realize Zephyr and Laila were so similar. But they totally are and I love that haha. Also looks like you have read my sorting for him, cause this is very accurate with Zephyr not knowing when he is stretching himself too thin (or why that is a mistake or why that shouldn't be an obligation for him).
Someone tell him how silly that fear is lol.
Haha okay that is very cute and exciting she would have a crush on Leander 🤣. I didn't know I was allowed to say that haha, cause Skye would tototally have crash on Darius (though he is very Laila's in my eyes) for that cultured intillegent driven researcher attitude + excited how kinda scary he is (even in my verse with the dragon dissection lmao).
Hal followed by both of them lol. He would be annoyed, but if she was patient she would get to him. He is shy and awkward with people, but intimidates most, so if she could stand that...🤣
Haha Laila being drawn to wounded individuals, that's the same thing that draws Zephyr to Kieran as well. Kieran would be resistant and angry on the outside, but the boy yearns to be taken care off lol. Plus he is younger than the rest of the cast and he subconsciously looks for role models and mentors around himself (since he doesn't get along with his parents much).
Thank you for sending this 😍❤ this was so cool and fitting and fun to read and I love Laila for being so nice to them all.💖

*Allison is walking to her dorm through the Penderghast quad when someone calls out behind her*
Beckett: Allison! Wait up!
*She stops when she sees her boyfriend, Beckett Harrington, racing to catch up with her. He’s breathless and flushed*
Allison: No worries. I was just going back to my dorm. What’s up?
Beckett: Well, a lot, actually. My parents host this big party every year, and, well, it’s my birthday party tonight, and I wanted to invite you as my plus-one. It’ll be the perfect opportunity to announce our relationship publicly to my family.
Allison: Wait, what? Not that I don’t want to meet your family; I do, really. It’s just...are you sure you’re ready for that? We’ve barely started dating.
Beckett: I’m very sure. I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. *his cheeks turn red* I love you, Allison McQueen. More than anyone I’ve ever met. I want to announce it openly. I want my parents to meet the amazing, beautiful, intelligent woman who caught my eye freshman year and never strayed from it. I want them to KNOW you, Allison, the way I do. You’re my girlfriend. Will you come to my birthday party? It would mean the world to me.
Allison: Of course I’ll come! Miss my boyfriend’s birthday? Not for anything! I just didn’t think you were ready.
Beckett: I might not have been, at first, but the more I see you, the more confident I feel. I need to do this, Allison. Since we became official at Penderghast, it’s now time we become official for my family. I want to announce it at the party. My parents are very traditional when it comes to parties. They go all out, and I mean literally all out. Most of their guests are elite top-of-the-line socialites, and having you there with me will make it ten times more tolerable. I don’t think I could take schmoozing with high society for hours on end without wanting to puke.
Allison: Well, then, consider me your high-society-schmoozing escape plan of a girlfriend. I’ll rescue you from any big bad socialites that try to chat you up. No fancy schmancy girls are gonna be kissing MY man. Although I’m afraid I don’t have anything fancy enough to wear in my closet. I’ve never been to a high society event before.
Beckett: That’s actually why I was hoping to run into you. I told Katrina that I wanted to invite you as my date, and she was extremely excited. She can’t wait to see you. I have an outfit custom-ordered that is just your size, if you’d like to wear it.
Allison: Why, Beckett Harrington; did you actually get me a dress???
Beckett: *flushes again and clears his throat nervously* Actually, it was both me and Katrina. She and I went shopping in Penn Square yesterday and I saw this dress in the window of the clothing store. I think it would really bring out your Sun-Att side. You’ll literally shine in it.
Allison: A Sun-Att dress that’ll turn heads at a classy rich people birthday party? I’m totally sold. Where is it? *Beckett pulls out a garment bag from behind his back and hands it to her, and she unzips it to find a shimmering gold dress inside, along with a matching mask with sparkling beads and sequins*
Beckett: I instantly thought of you when I pointed it out to Katrina. We both agree that this is the equivalent to satin sunlight, and can only see you wearing it.
Allison: There’s a mask here. Am I going in secret identity mode?
Beckett: I forgot to tell you; it’s a masquerade ball. Only my parents would think of something so top-notch. They want what’s best for their number one student at Penderghast University. *he tries to keep his voice level, but Allison can see the irritation in his eyes* To be honest, they’ve always gone out of their way every year to give me and Katrina these huge, elaborate birthday parties. I never wanted any of it, but talking back to my dad was like talking to a wall. The Harrington family is not easily swayed. When they make up their minds, they’re made up.
Allison: So I have to make sure I impress them. I’ll try to make sure my newly-found magick doesn’t get out of control. Maybe the mask WILL help with the secret identity.
Beckett: *taking her hands and squeezing them gently* Allison, no matter what, you’ll always be impressive. Don’t worry too much about that. I’ll do the talking. You just have to be yourself. Be that bright, gorgeous Sun-Att I fell for last year. If you wear the dress we got you, everything will speak for itself. I’m impressed by you. Katrina’s impressed by you. Our parents HAVE to be impressed with that fact in play. *gazes into her eyes with desire* Now go try on the dress. We have a party to attend.
Allison: Okay, okay. I’m going, I’m going. *laughs and kisses him softly, walking back to her dorm*
Beckett: I’ll come by and get you at 7. I’ll be wearing a suit with a black and gold mask.
*Allison waves and heads inside*
*An hour before Beckett is supposed to pick her up, Allison strolls into the common room with the gold dress and mask on, and her friends instantly go into stunned silence as they stop what they’re doing to stare at her*
Allison: Oh, don’t mind me. I’m just getting ready for my date.
Shreya: Did you just say ‘date?’ *she jumps off the couch and makes a beeline for Allison* I figured that was why you looked so radiant. Allison, you’re practically glowing!
Zeph: I agree. That’s a great look on you, Allison. Who’s the lucky guy?
Allison: Seriously? Beckett’s parents are hosting a big huge masquerade ball for his birthday tonight, and he invited me as his plus-one. Katrina’s going to be there, and Beckett’s going to make an official announcement that we’re boyfriend and girlfriend.
Shreya: *clapping her hands excitedly* Oh, my god, girl, you’ve GOT to give me the deets! My Instattuned followers are going to LOVE the gossip! I was wondering why you were wearing a mask. Here; let me take a picture before Beckett shows up to snatch you away! *Allison makes several poses as Shreya clicks her compact* Yassss, girl! SLAY!
Griffin: So wait. Beckett’s parents are hosting a birthday party for him? With masks and fancy clothes? Sounds big.
Zeph: Yeah. The Harrington name does have a reputation in the Attuned community. I’ve heard rumors that their family has connections with some very powerful and wealthy people in our world, but I never believed them to be true. If you ask me, getting tangled in with high society usually doesn’t end well, especially for the lower class.
Atlas: Lower class my ass. Allison’s a SUN-ATT. She’s got magick attuned with all the elements. If anyone can outsmart a bunch of stuffy rich kids, it’s my ever-loving ass-kicking twin sister. *she slings an arm over Allison’s shoulders and grins* You got this, sis. If Harrington or any of his socialite cronies give you trouble, you call on us and we’ll be there. Knights don’t go down without a fight!
Zeph: Hell, yeah! We’ll be your backup, Allison. Not to mention your recently-evolved familiar, Tim! I’m sure he’s just waiting to turn up the heat!
Allison: Awww, thanks, guys. You’re all the best friends a girl could ask for. It’s not true friendship unless it’s the power of Knights!
Griffin: Knights rock!
*A half-hour later, there’s a knock at the door*
Shreya: Sounds like someone’s DATE is here! I’ll get it! *she rushes to the door before Allison can say anything* Well, well, look at YOU all dressed up! You’re looking FINE! Hey, McQueen! There’s a suavely-dressed masked man at the door asking for you!
Allison: I’m coming! *she holds up the end of her dress as she walks, and through her mask she can just make out Beckett, wearing his classy blue suit and the black and gold mask he’d mentioned* Whoa! My boyfriend is turning up the HEAT!
Beckett: *staring with amazement at her, his jaw dropping* Allison! You look...I mean...you...wow. You look...breathtaking!
Allison: Has my outward appearance stolen all the air from your lungs, Mr. Harrington? You usually have a lot more to say. *smirking*
Beckett: *flushing and coughing nervously* Yes. Usually. Under normal circumstances. But seeing you, in that dress, I can’t even speak in complete sentences! *flustered* You’ve put a spell on me, Allison, and it’s not from your magick.
Allison: So I’ve reduced the great Beckett Harrington to stunned silence and scattered words. Consider me impressed. And by the way, the dress fits perfectly. I don’t know how you and Katrina managed.
Beckett: Well. Shall we then? *holds out his arm to her and she takes it willingly*
Zeph: Hey, Beckett! Make sure she has the time of her life and don’t let any snobby rich people take advantage of her! We want all the details when you two get back! We’re not letting our friends get taken down!
Beckett: I already know that, Zephyr. My intention was to take care of her the entire time. It’s my birthday, and my parents are going to meet my girlfriend. Believe me; if ANYONE says or does anything to her, I’ll be there.
*The trip to the party happens so quickly that Allison doesn’t have a chance to ask questions. Before she knows it, she’s stumbling back on to solid ground after hanging on to Beckett tightly*
Allison: What just happened? Did you use ward magick?
Beckett: *catches her quickly before she falls* It was a simple act of teleportation. I’m sorry it couldn’t be smoother; I’m afraid I’m rather rusty at conjuring the spell. It’s been awhile. Are you all right? *looks concerned*
Allison: I’m fine. Just a bit wobbly. My air-legs haven’t settled yet. *she looks around in awe at all the well-dressed people walking into the equally-awe-inspiring venue* This is your birthday party? It looks more like a royal ball. With the masquerade theme, of course.
Beckett: As I said before, my parents go all out for our parties. They want to make sure we get the best of the best. Our family name has huge importance out here. *he laces his fingers with hers and gazes at her adoringly, and she squeezes his hand* Ready?
Allison: As I’ll ever be. Let’s meet the fam.
*Classical music is playing inside, and important-looking Attuned are milling about. Even in the dress and mask, Allison starts to feel out of place. She scans the room with a nervous look. Beckett seems to sense her discomfort and grasps her hand tighter to silently remind her that he’s right there with her*
Woman: Ah! Beckett! Darling, you made it! Come on over and say hello to our friends! *a woman who can only be Mrs. Harrington takes Beckett’s arm and practically pulls him across the floor, not even acknowledging Allison*
Beckett: Mom! A warning would be nice...!?
Mrs. Harrington: Come on, birthday boy! You must meet the Meyer family! They just offered your father an excellent deal!
Beckett: Mom! I’m here with someone! *he manages to look apologetically back at Allison as he’s dragged away, and Allison loses the rest of the conversation*
Allison: I’ll just wait here. *she slowly moves away from the crowd along the back wall, observing the guests in their finest, masks disguising their faces. Her magick stirs within her, sending out uneasy auras around the room. Even with the coverings over their eyes, Allison gets bad vibes from many of the attendees, almost as if their cold gazes are judging her* I guess it’s good I wore this dress. At least I don’t feel like a complete standout. But why did Beckett’s mom totally ignore me? It’s like I didn’t even exist.
*She moves closer to where Beckett is standing with his mother, and even with a mask on, she can recognize Katrina, the older Harrington sibling and her current professor at Penderghast. The two are talking with an older gentleman, an unrecognizable red headed girl, and another man who is suspected to be Mr. Harrington*
Mr. Harrington: That is definitely a great offer, Milton. I’ll keep in touch. Have you met my son, Beckett? He’s the guest of honor tonight.
Mystery Man: Ah, yes, the young Harrington Junior. I hear it’s your birthday. How do you do?
Allison: [How do you do? Just when I thought this party couldn’t be any fancier; the formalities are too much!] *she can see that Beckett is fidgeting, clearly looking very uncomfortable*
Beckett: Yes, how do you do? It’s a pleasure to meet you. Now if you’ll excuse me, there’s someone I need to get back to.
Mrs. Harrington: Beckett, don’t be rude.
Beckett: I’m not... *Katrina quickly hisses at him*
Katrina: Is Allison here?
Beckett: Yes, she is. I brought her in and Mom completely ignored her! You should see her. She looks stunning in the dress we picked out. *his eyes start roving the room, looking around for her, and Katrina also appears to take notice* I left her standing near the entrance, alone. That’s why I need to get back to her.
Katrina: I can’t wait for your announcement! So you two are officially an item now?
Beckett: We are. I’ve been thinking about how to approach this, and I figured that my birthday party was the perfect place to break the news. I only hope Mom and Dad can see her the way I do.
Katrina: She has obviously changed you for the better, Bean. I’ve never seen you this happy like ever.
Beckett: She makes me happy. She has this effect on me; I don’t know exactly what it is, but whenever I’m in her presence, I just want to stare at her all day. Besides, she’s an amazing kisser.
Katrina: You two are adorable together. I’m secretly hoping that one day she’ll be my sister-in-law.
Mr. Harrington: What are you two discussing here?
Katrina: Oh, nothing. Just Beckett’s upcoming announcement. *she winks at her brother and he blushes*
Mr. Harrington: Oh, really? Well. I can’t wait to hear what my boy has to say. This is your night to shine, son.
Beckett: Yeah. No pressure, right? *Mr. Harrington glances over at his friend Milton, who gives him an affirming nod*
Mrs. Harrington: Everyone, may I have your attention, please? *her voice suddenly projects across the room, clearly a conjured spell, and the conversation dies down as all eyes center on her. She grips Beckett’s shoulder and pulls him close* Since this is my son Beckett’s birthday, we wish to thank all of you for being here to celebrate with us tonight!
Allison: Woohoo! Happy birthday, Beckett!
Mrs. Harrington: The guest of honor will take the floor momentarily to give his birthday speech, but first, his father and I have a special surprise. *excited murmurs break out, and Mrs. Harrington turns to the family* Miss Meyer, would you come over here?
*The unknown red headed girl steps over to Mrs. Harrington’s other side and looks out at the crowd*
Beckett: Mom? What’s going on? *he stares at his mother with utter confusion, and then his eyes fall on the girl*
Mrs. Harrington: *her hand not leaving his shoulder* For his birthday this year, we have decided to give Beckett an extra special gift, and it’s one that cannot be wrapped up in any magickal paper. On behalf of our family and by special permission from Milton Meyer of the Meyer-Freed fortune, we present Miss Ashley Meyer...Beckett’s new fiancée!
*For a second, there’s silence, and then the whole room breaks out in applause and cheers. The noise is so loud that it practically drowns out the gasps of horror and shock from the three people reeling from the news*
Beckett: What?!
Allison: What?!
Katrina: What?!
*Mrs. Harrington has just dropped an unexpected bombshell! Beckett’s birthday party has just become his engagement party...to a girl he doesn’t even know! What will this mean for his upcoming announcement...and Allison and Beckett’s relationship? Keep playing to find out!*

On the Wild.
In the beginning, there was nothing. Then a single creative spark made something out of nothing, borrowing the best of many worlds, and before long came the Wild. First a whole world, conventional in rules and mundane in contents, it had at some mysterious and indistinct point suffered a calamity so profound it shattered the world into teeny-tiny pieces, and tossed them left and right, up and down, across time and space. Now, it is a world divided; split into a thousand island and one, and maybe even more, where creatures of all kinds make a do, yourself among them.
Enter the Wild. Befriend it, respect its law, and it will in return be kind and favourable to all your ventures. To go against the Wild, and disrespect the law, is to play a game of chess with powers great and unpredictable. Or so say the soothsayers and prophets and far-seers, and other outspoken folk. But the problem still stands: The Wild allures adventurers and explorers from anywhere and of every disposition. They board the airships and aim to cross the gaping chasms between the isles in search for parts unknown, and in so doing challenge the Wild to a battle of luck.
Why do we hear the call of the Wild? Why it beckons us, when it is the Wild that employs mysterious ways to consume much-too-curious travellers? Perhaps you will be the first to find out. Your airship, *The Unyielding*, awaits only the order to embark. Until it does, however, I’d advise any aspiring explorer, even so eager as yourself, to educate themselves on the Wild matters.
Matter 1: The Cosmology
A world without rules is a world much too arbitrary. The Wild, thank goodness, rests on a foundation solid in structure and clear in law (though not devoid of Lovecraftian instability, something we will touch on in due time). Binding all that exists within the Wild is an omnipresent gas -- the zephyr. Scentless and weightless, zephyr is what our earthly person would call the air, save for a few un-oxygenic properties it has that the air we breathe on Earth does not.
Zephyr is safe to breathe in reasonable quantities, which themselves are relative to the species in question. Some may breathe more of it than others, but what stays true for all is that, sooner or later (most often sooner), the creature gobbling up too much zephyr will experience what is called the Wild-headedness. The foul gas will cloud their judgement, and warp their mind over the course of days so much as to drive them bonkers. Indeed, it is not uncommon to see explorers return disturbed, whispering to themselves some cryptic nonsense, and it is then said of them that they’re Wild-touched, and as one would presume, no Wild-touched traveller has to date ever recovered from the mind-twisting touch.
But, there are lands safe from the zephyr; pieces of land large enough to have developed an “atmosphere,” and ousted the lion’s share of that cosmic poison. Such lands are quick to nurture prosperous civilisations as more and more nomads are drawn to zephyrless refuge. It is as such unfortunate that few floatlands may brag about their atmosphere; in fact one is twice as likely to encounter a land engulfed in the zephyrous miasma. At times even, unbeknownst to the unsuspecting traveller, what might strike them as an airful land, is in truth a land with an atmosphere too thin to banish all of zephyr, and so there it flies unrestricted, sucking in quiet at the unaware guest’s sanity, until they too find themselves forever Wild-touched.
Zephyr also appears to attract, or even conjure, especially horrid weather. Whereas upon the floatlands it tends to be stable of mood -- one day mildly temperate and on another temperately harsh -- Mother Nature likes to throw a temper tantrum whenever her children attempt to sail the zephyrous space. Thunders strike aplenty from within the clouds, and wherever they can reach; powerful currents toss the feeble airships caught within them around like feathers, and the dreaded whirlwinds (although rare) may send even the strongest of vessels flying leagues away from where they were headed.
This area of the Wild, by far the most abundant, and sandwiched between land and other celestial bodies, came to be known as the Betwixt. One can not leave for a different isle without also crossing the Betwixt along the way. The act itself earned a colloquialism, “to fly betwixt.” Whenever one flies betwixt, they embark on a journey across this chasm to a neighbouring isle, taking on a tremendous risk to their life and sanity.
If we were to project the Wild on to a map; to look at the world from a bird’s perspective, we would see a clear pattern emerge to the way celestial bodies are situated. Between them are the poisonous clouds, always there and slow to madden (but sure to do so), that the Wild folks termed Betwixt:
Tumblr media
Notice how zephyrous clouds have engulfed the smaller lands, whereas the bigger catch remains predominantly unscathed.
The Betwixt may be your best friend, or the worst enemy. It is never clear what your relationship is to be whenever you take off into the Wild, but the Betwixt is kind enough to make it apparent when comes the right moment, either with a smooth sail to your destination, or a spontaneous whirlwind until the last moment hidden inside a zephyrous nebula. On that note: pirates, marauders, and lawbreakers may find the thick shroud of a nebula, rich in zephyr, to be a wonderful hideout few orderlies would have the courage to investigate.
Zephyred isles often provide a secluded base of operations for many mages, mancers of various schools, and physicians dabbling in unorthodox fields of study. Remote, fraught with traitorous weather and poisonous amounts of zephyr, they are often left well alone, and probably for good reasons, too.
To call upon the Betwixt to deliver you from misfortune, or challenge it to a battle of luck whilst flying, is a decision you will have to make as a player. The Betwixt is as much a tool in your arsenal as it is space for you to traverse. Still, I’d advise all sailors to keep their wits about them, never you may know when your favour with the Betwixt will run out.
2nd Matter: The Semantics
People of the Wild have never known the fluctuous oceans and salted seas, as there no longer exists land big enough to hold them. This fact of life ensured that languages and cultures of the Wild never developed words to describe outspread bodies of water, the size of oceans and seas, and neither did they arrive at the words derived in part or in full from their relation to the high seas and azure mains, be they islands or archipelagos or other.
The vocabulary we earthlings turn to talking about islands and archipelagos makes little sense to wildlings. They would understand what the “land“ of an island means, but the rest would leave them befuddled. Islands and archipelagos, in particular, are terms one has to rule out for a floating world for etymological reasons. Both words, if you were to trace them all the way back to their forefathers in PIE, happen to be portmanteaus of Indo-European for “river” (proposedly) -- that which is swift -- and Indo-European for “land.“ Therefore "island” describes a piece of land rested on a body of water, which would in theory be a possible but unlikely semantic development in an environment washed at most by small rivers and lakes. Many (if not most) of Wild-born peoples would simply never come across an island anywhere in their homeland, and thus never coin the relevant term; land surrounded by water would stay the stuff of contemporary science fiction.
Since the concept of islands and the relevant word have never been coined, peoples transcending the boundaries of their homeland do not think of the land they discover flying betwixt as islands. Anything but! Instead, they would size up the newfound land (wink-wink Canadians) and term it according to scale:
Lands comparable to or greater than their own, vast and bountiful, would be judged as Greatlands.
Lands smaller, only a little or downright minute, would be recorded as Minorlands.
Most peoples distinguish between great- and minor-lands. While these are not the words they would speak in their native tongues, translated into English they best convey the semantic and conceptual process that went into and evolved the words they use to describe the lands encountered on travels across the Betwixt. To them, it would not make sense to classify the lands as islands, for “island“ as a word implies land upon water -- literally speaking -- something wildlings wouldn’t think possible.
This same line of thinking I try to apply to all the other terms native to our world yet unfounded in the Wild, and supplant them with terms both clear to us and grounded in the semantic development one would expect from a floating world, and “floating” cultures. The choice of words they make reflects the world around them, and the traits unique to its cosmology. I have to stress, though, that I’m by no means a wise-headed scholar of all humanitarian and applied disciplines alike; I’m just a hobbyist, and the neologisms I invent for the Wild are altogether speculative, and nothing more.
3rd Matter: The Floating Lands
Second in number to zephyrous clouds are the floatlands, stretching as far as the eye can see, maybe even till the very edge of the observable world. Strip the Wild of the lands, and you would render it somewhat of a desolace, sparsely dotted with an occasional nebula, shining star, or the dreaded whirlwind, stashed away someplace on the outskirts to catch oblivious explorers off guard. It is upon these pieces of land torn away from long lost planets (or the great supercontinent, or the Primordial Star, depending on what you take to be the authentic Creation Myth, for there are plenty), that the Wild’s vast majority of earth-like features unfold.
Greatlands, true to their name, happen to be the greatest in extent. They stand as the most diverse in nature and features, owing to their scale; it is not out of character for a greatland to offer a dozen different habitats for the inquisitive traveller to discover. They hoard flora and fauna that would be a curiosity to stumble upon travelling a minorland, and the magnificent mountain ranges are but an ordinary fact of life, originating from the time that there were not great lands, but one too many minorlands drifting too close to one another.
The clash, in time, erected mountains recognised in the modern age as the peaky landmarks of a great many greatlands. Rivers and lakes wash them, and many species one is to encounter throughout the Wild claim descent from one such land or the other, cementing the popular opinion among wildling scholars of greatlands as the undisputed cradle of civilisation.
Minorlands, by contrast, are the smallest of lands, and as such very homogeneous in nature and terrain. Many a time they host temperate uplands, whether defined by scorching dunes or grassy hills or bone-chilling piles of snow, and seldom have another biome. Guesting adventurers are forced to walk the same plain time and again, hoping for a path somewhere that is not a desert with no end or an ever-stretching meadow.
Yet, minorlands are famed as the best places of seclusion: farmsteads have since time immemorial bonded with these flattened blobs of dirt and thickets, their predictable weather and absence of unwarranted surprises be praised; shady sorts, too, find the safety of a remote minorland to their liking, and so do polities on the rise, erecting watchtowers upon them to spot unwanted intruders from afar. Rural and tame, predictably temperate and never at all hiding dangerous surprises, they for certain hold a slew of advantages over their great towering counterparts.
Chainlands are less so a shape or form of a land in the Wild, and more so a cluster of the two varieties aforementioned. Ages ago, the first peoples would without question have entitled them minor- and great-lands alike, but the passage of time led them to invent and construct bridges and passes to connect these lands together, in an effort to make travel much less of a burden.
Of stone, of wood, or spectral essence (born of powerful spells), bridges to a chainland are as veins to a human -- cut them down, and the chainland will be sure to suffer a fatal blow to the economy and infrastructure. This reliance on bridge-making, and bridge-keeping, had implored the Wild folk to derive a neologism to describe this network of land and bridge. The Chainlands, the lands chained one to another.
Greatlands among chainlands are few and far between, but when they are, they only ever bind the neighbouring minorlands to drift around them, like moons round a planet in our world. The pull at times is so strong that the bound minorlands break apart, forming together a ring of shredded land, themselves at times entitled the shredlands.
Minorlands, on the other hand, stand unbeaten as the most usual finds in any given chainland, and more often than not the only land there is to be seen. When it is so, and there is no greatland to project authority upon the minorlands, they tend to revolve around each other, their pull so weak that the revolution appears paused to all but the most perceptive and patient of eyes.
The rarest of all is a chainland wherein two greatlands do battle. Under that circumstance, the two colossi fight for dominance over the chainland, and in due time (lasting millennia, and longer still) the pull they exert upon one another will tear them to pieces that the future wildlings will take for minorlands. It is believed all chainlands had in the forgotten days been greatlands dueling to death, and the minorlands as a phenomenon had only emerged from the rubble the duel had left. This is however in the view of many a contradiction to the theory of minorlands as the forefathers of greatlands. Sweet, one more thing to argue about...
Tumblr media
4th Matter: The Phenomena
Rarer even than two greatlands locked in an ageless stalemate are the naturally occurring phenomena a keen explorer is sure to come upon at some point in their chasm-crossing career. They range in scale, and use, and animosity to the beings caught in their vicinity, but all are united in the danger they pose to every living thing, sentient or otherwise. They toss, and poison, and twist the minds of their unlucky victims, and beware they who dare venture someplace never charted.
Luckily for the Wild folk, all but one known phenomena are stationary; it would take a great deal of law-breaking and space-bending power to set them in motion -- more still to make a weapon out of them -- and the very idea has become the subject of Deluge Myths among many Wild-born faiths and traditions.
Note that the list I offer down below is incomplete; it would take me too much time, too many letters, and even more brainpower to scribble all of the wild ideas I’ve come to cooking up a host of obstacles for the Player to overcome on their journey across the Betwixt. I will instead list the ones I’ve thought about the longest, ordered least to most interesting, and leave the rest for another time:
Nebulas
Native to the far corners of the Betwixt, miles upon miles away from the closest floatland, nebulae take shape when the zephyrous currents, flowing of their own accord through the Betwixt, or given a violent push from a whirlwind, come to a halt in one place, and condense into clouds. The clouds then clash and thicken, and before long turn so dense one would struggle to make out the loosest detail even ten metres ahead, and not one propeller in the Wild would have the horsepower to blow the clouds away.
Naturally, it is as dangerous to sentient life (thanks in no small part to copious amounts of zephyr) as it is useful the mortals seeking refuge or a place to hide. The big problem for them is therefore to puzzle out a way to breathe, but also maintain their clarity of mind. Devices and gear exist to protect the daring pilots, but even they give in under so much stress. Oversaturated air notwithstanding, nebulae have been known to act as naturally fortified hideouts for criminal elements; whole syndicates were fabled to raise floating fortresses amid the nebula, and sometimes they would discover by pure chance “castaway“ minorlands inside.
Few have come back to tell the tale, and so it is to this day a wonder to many; one that raises a plethora of questions, most notably the question of what else could possibly be hiding in the nebula’s heart?
Currents
Driven now by cosmic forces and then by a raging whirlwind, zephyrous currents serve to experienced pilots as motorways serve seasoned drivers here on Earth -- they send even the heaviest merchantmen flying like a lightweight schooner, at the expected cost of abnormal levels of the gas in the air. Currents and lanes are cognate, and the words are used interchangeably to refer to the same phenomenon.
While impossible to influence, to slant or pick up the pace, almost like the current of a river, they always run their course like they did since the beginning of all things. Only whirlwinds may redirect some portion of a current away into the Wild, and the lost current soon stops deep in the Wild and turns to a nebula.
Even then, the main current will get to keep the direction it is flowing, making them a tempting choice of many traders and colonists, who by force of circumstance have to man ships so heavy that the cost of travel is immense. The current step in to help, and take some of the financial edge off.
Currents may every now and again branch out, and the individual branches may converge into another current at the very tip, forming networks vital to the circulation of trade and commerce and people throughout the Wild; about as essential as bridges are to a chainland. Maps charting the currents and the branches are worth their weight in gold, and it is only natural that many explorers make a living mapping the currents they chance upon in their travels.
Whirlwinds
The fear; the nightmare of every sailor seasoned and amateur alike, are the dreaded whirlwinds. Itself a smidgen tear (or hole, a better word) in the fabric of reality, a whirlwind bends the space and time around it with a pull a quintillion times that of the largest greatland conceivable; so strong it stretches all matter too close around the dark epicentre into a bright spiral of heated zephyr, and the chunks of land and other fallen material.
There’s a constant rotation of matter happening within the whirlwind’s ring, as old matter eventually reaches the point of no-return -- the whirlwind’s lightless and lifeless centre -- and new matter takes its place. What happens to the old from that point onwards is a subject shrouded in mystery, with only a handful of scholarly works, all pure speculation, as not one Wild person has ever managed to fly close to the whirlwind and stay whole, let alone fly so close as to observe the matter being absorbed into the black core.
Legend has it, and so does science, that should a whirlwind draw too close to a greatland, it will eat it whole, bones and all, and leave not one trace behind. Thankfully, there have never been cases observed and recorded of such calamities taking place, and gods help us that they do not befall us tomorrow.
Testament to the whirlwinds’ power is their ability to draw from the current a new one, and in so doing lay foundations for new currents for the network, or even the new nebulae. They are not, as such, entirely destructive when examined under creationist light.
There are moony captains out in the Wild who may, equipped the right things, ride on the very edge of a whirlwind’s ring to gain speed one would never reach in the strongest current. Nevertheless, I’d advise you, young captain, never to consider a means of travel with a potential so devastating.
Stars
They go by many names; of their own making and christened so by their mortal worshippers from the floating lands. They prefer to name their kin Celestials, but the noble intention this word carries could not be further from their nature. Aye, the Stars of the Wild are in every way as sentient as the Wild peoples, and just as numerous, but rarely if ever benevolent. Quite the polar opposite.
Stars are power incarnate; their blinding light may scorch and turn the lesser life to smoke and ash, but it may also plant the seeds of life upon a lifeless greatland, should the Star be in the mood to curb the sunlight. The taste of this godlike privilege has driven many of them arrogant of character; reluctant to hear the plights of land-dwelling “insects” they warm, whether by choice or circumstance, and eager instead to bind them to their will.
Lands orbiting a Star, while far more bountiful than the lands lit only by the bleak natural light of the Wild, bask in the Star’s life-giving rays, and enjoy a life of everlasting overindulgence, with a sinister catch. Not so much a catch even, as a figurative leash that the Star has put them on, holding entire civilisations hostage forced to appease it, and many Stars are infamously whimsical.
All too often Star-lit lands resort to Star-worshipping zealotry, too small both in stature and in will to rise against their blinding overlord. Some did, though, and gallivanting bards sing of their ashes gliding through the Wild along the currents, the last traces of a civilisation wiped out in the flash of light...
To approach a Star is, too, an experience thrice as maddening and sickening as spending a minute too long in a nebula. The closer you drift towards them, the louder their diabolical whispers grow in your head, incessant and urging you to turn right around, or perish from your own madness. Spend long enough near a Star, and upon your unlikely return to the mainland, people will speak of you as as the Stargazer; the Star-touched. Needless to say it is an ailment every bit as chronic as the Wild-headedness.
Given this way of things, little is known to scholars from outside the Star-lit lands of the Stars’ origins, or the properties they possess besides the incomprehensible language they speak, and their obvious lust for power. It is only known of their kind that some of it is not as malevolent; the Stars aligned to do good have only been seen once or twice in known history, and few endured the pressure from their less-ethical peers so long as to live into our age. Regardless, maybe the fate will bring you together, young captain, and then you would be the one to teach me of the things you’d learnt from the meeting.
Tumblr media
Finita La Commedia
That is all you need to know, for now, young captain, and I hope this minute handbook taught you a concept or two. Now-now, “The Unyielding” is ready, and so are you. Bewildering adventures await deep within the Wild; distant shores, bizarre creatures, and life-threatening phenomena itching to be discovered. Take notes of the things encountered and events witnessed, and maybe your findings will fetch a pretty penny. Don’t you dare approach the Stars, though, I wouldn’t wish upon my apprentice the Star’s pestilent touch. Come back to us safe and sound, friend, and pardon my sentimentality.
We all bid you a very fond farewell.

I've been drawing for as long as I can remember and can't seem to stop, though I take long breaks sometimes I always seem to come back to it again. I try not to have anything in mind when I draw, but to start sketching and let the drawing happen. Sometimes I find that what I'm trying to draw is not what my drawing wants to be (if that makes any sense) and change what I'm making halfway through. It makes drawing a really relaxing and carefree therapeutic experience! Writing is different. I've always enjoyed writing, but I didn't write much and never shared my writing with anyone because I thought it was super pretentious. It wasn't until entering High School and joining the literature club and making a deal with a friend that we'd share our writing with each other that I actually gained any sort of confidence in my ability and sought to improve it. Being in that club and sharing my pieces at the open mics was a really encouraging experience! I invite everyone to share their writing, even if it's with some random internet stranger (I'm open anytime!) if they're unsure of their abilities. A little encouragement goes a long way! Now that I'm on Discord, ao3, and tumblr, I receive so much more feedback than I ever have before! It's been super encouraging! What inspires me most is definitely nature. Even if my ideas aren't directly related to the outdoors, I get my best ideas there. Fandoms are also a great idea generator. The sheer volume of headcanons and prompts is enough to make me dizzy with ideas!
What's your creative process like?
I love sketching. My favorite thing about drawing digitally is that I can sketch as much as I like and never worry about wasting materials! Often times my sketches turn themselves into drawings without permission and other times they stubbornly remain sketches for all eternity. I always dive right in because I have no patience and the idea I started out with generally isn't that great but in the process of pursuing it, it spirals out of control and sometimes the idea gets better and sometimes it gets worse but I just kinda roll with it. Creating is a really chill process for me and while I regularly scream stuff like "I'M DRAWING ON THE WRONG LAYER NONONONONONO" or "NO HECK FRICK SHOOT IT SMUDGED HECK HECK GET THE ERASER QUICK," the creative process is a great way for me to unwind. I'm the same way about writing. I never plan or outline and just kind of roll with things. I mean I generally have the basic jist in mind, but I try to not have a plan so I can keep the story driven by the characters and not force them into acting the way I wanted them to in the outline I made hours or even days ago. Creating is my opportunity to break free so I don't really see what good a plan or outline does me. I'm a pretty spontaneous person!
What kind of mediums do you like to use?
I like to take pictures, but it's not really my main focus. I've been mostly digitally drawing—I use my iPad Pro and Procreate—but lately I've been pencil sketching with just your average everyday mechanical pencil (I'd forgotten how nice the texture of paper was! Clearly I spent too much time drawing on my iPad!). I have these Stabilio chalk pastels I love to pieces, but have also spent a great deal of time with watercolors. Digital is my primary medium currently, though.
Tumblr media
Is there a specific scene wrote that you are particularly proud of?
"Sky’s golden scales are glowing with reflected light from the sun while beneath them, the same pulsing blue in her mane runs like a river as her very skin is alive with electricity. The sun’s beginning to dip, fading through the color wheel from yellow to deep orange to scarlet and the world is bathed in watercolor and hue shifted through the rainbow until all that was blue becomes red. This new alien world begins to darken as red fades to deep purple-pink, the clouds catching last vestiges of gold in their pillowy folds, yet Sky continues rippling with lighting, the bright blue flowing like blood through her veins and the gold shimmering in the eerie azure glow. We weave through the winds and zephyrs and I close my eyes and let the breeze caress my hair and when I reopen them, I’m standing back on the ground again in a world long since darkened by night. I place my hand over my beating heart where Sky is still laughing with joy and smile because once you’ve awakened your dragon, you don’t need wings to fly anymore."
Is there someone who inspires you and your writing or art?
Every fanartist and fanfic writer that posts their stuff online is an inspiration to me. Even if their stuff isn't very good—especially if it isn't very good—it's a huge testament to the courage of the creator and their bravery in expressing themself! I sat on fanfic and fanart for years and never shared it and here were kids half my age putting out art that was their first experiment in a new medium and a little shaky but it was still out there and they were still being supported by the community and that really inspired me to reach out and stop lurking in fandom and actually get involved!
is there something that you struggled with that made you grow as a creator?
I feel like everyone has these periods where they were just gaining confidence in their artistic ability but suddenly everything they make is trash and they're not happy with any of it and they feel so down and worthless and "where did all of my hard-earned ability go? Will I ever get it back?" I think this is a pretty common experience and when I find myself there, I find it most helpful to share what I make anyway, even if I hate it, with someone who I know will give it to me straight because they'll point out the deeper problems—the root of the issue—that I hadn't even noticed and I can use that information to grow as an artist. Bad pieces are just as valuable as good ones. There was also a time where I had a lot of trouble developing a style. I did a lot of experimenting and never found anything I liked. What happened is I just kept drawing and whatever popped out eventually evolved into my style. I used to get frustrated that I couldn't draw anything without a reference, but after years and years of using references and drawing some of the same things over and over again, you won't need the references anymore. I mean, they're great and you should always feel free to use them, but over time, you won't need to look up a picture of every little thing you try to doodle.
What got you into writing or art?
My silly twitchy fingers can't ever seem to stop drawing! Same with writing. Words and ideas follow me around, little plot bunnies pestering me until they get written down somewhere. I was greatly inspired by the works of C.S. Lewis in my writing, especially his Cosmic Trilogy. My art style was aided by Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist, which was a valuable stepping stone in developing my own style. Other than that, it was my own insatiable desire to MAKE THINGS that spurred me onwards. I don't think I could stop if I tried!
What's your favorite part of the creative process?
After you've got that first paragraph and you've found a flow and you've got a topic and you just GO. I get into the zone and the story starts happening on its own and I'm not an author anymore, I'm just a channel between the world of the piece and the page. That's my favorite. I love watching things take shape. I love shading a sketch for these same reasons. The whole drawing comes together and becomes A Thing and it's the most exciting time to be a creator. Something else inside you has taken over and you're just along for the ride. I have no idea if my experiences are common at all but this is what it's like for me!
What's your least favorite part of the creative process?
EDITING. I HAVE ZERO PATIENCE. THE THING IS DONE. WHY DO I HAVE TO KEEP LOOKING AT IT. CAN I POST IT YET. This leaves me with a lot of holes in what I make and I can't do a very clean, super detailed drawing unless it's for an art class and I'm forced to keep working on it. I have a terrible habit of never proofreading my things!
What's your favorite type of scene to write?
AAH hard question! I love writing description and places where I can really let my inner 19th century romantic be unleashed but I also love a good emotional moment between two characters. Something tense. I like fight scenes, but I try to keep them brief and interesting. Sometimes I find scenes where I have no idea what's going on and I try to avoid that, but it's really hard sometimes.
What's the hardest for you to create?
I have so much trouble with endings. I can generally figure something out, but there's always a moment of panic before the end like "heck I wrote everything I wanted how do I wrap this up????" That's probably a byproduct of me planning nothing XD I sometimes have trouble with characterization and making sure everyone acts the way they actually would. The hardest part is continuing after you have an "oh heck what do I do now" moment that breaks you out of your zone and all of your ideas and plot threads turn invisible or evaporate or go wherever it is they go when you're looking for them.
Tumblr media
What's your favorite genre to write?
ANGST ANGST ANGST ANGST. Wellll... scratch that. I love something adventure-y and plot driven with a lot of really meaningful character interactions. I've always had trouble putting my writing into genres, but I guess that kind of speaks for itself in a way.
What fandoms do you enjoy creating for?
Linked Universe is the fandom I have created and posted the most for by a LONG SHOT. I found LU shortly after making my tumblr and I joined the Discord shortly thereafter. Since then, it has been nonstop inspiration and creativity for me! I tend to get sucked into one fandom and it consumes me for a few months before I silently drift out of it and never think about it again. LU is the fandom I've been the most active in EVER though—and it's still going—so there's a good chance I'm never getting off this ride.
What's the work you are most proud of?
AAAAAAAAAAH MY BABIES. okay um here's the first and only fanfic I've ever posted anywhere but I'm really happy with: https://sky-squido.tumblr.com/post/618964544219463680/turn-back-time-a-linked-universe-fanfic I have a lot of other pieces kicking about, but they're not fandom so I haven't shared them yet. I probably will after I touch them up a bit.
Do you have any fics inspired by real life stories?
Not really? I don't really know where my ideas come from to be honest!
Where do you post your finished works?
my tumblr. I tag stuff #squido writes and #squido draws so you can find them easily. I also put them on the discord but they get lost in the stream of other works pretty quickly so stick to my tumblr. I also have an ao3 now! https://archiveofourown.org/users/sky_squido
If you have any fun stories about the pieces you made, please do share!
Turn Back Time was actually live written in the Discord, but entirely unplanned and in the #angst channel! It was just a headcanon but then I started describing it and like 2 hours and 5k words later I'm sitting in the Discord like "what just happened??"

Speaking of the League, how is Alliair's challenge constructed? Are there playoffs and numbered contestants like in Galar, or is it looser like Hoenn's? Who (and where) are your gym leaders, and what are their specialties? Are there any official "gimmicks" like Triple, Rotation, or Battle Royals?
Tumblr media
Steven: Oho, now this is exciting! I never get to talk about sports. What, I don't look like the sports type to you? Battling is the only good one! You won’t catch me tuning into baseball, or some shit!
Here in Alliair, the League works by letting people take on the gyms at about their own pace, and then the Championship is in the Fall with teams being entered in playoff-style competition against each other, then the Champion. Let's see if I can remember the order of the Gym Leaders... I think I got it.
Rosetta leads the rock-type gym in Pyren Town. She's a human, and she used to be a glam-rock artist years and years ago. When she retired from that, she took on battling, and she's been a solid start for teams ever since.
In Mosaic City, we've got Zephyr, an altaria who is... kiiiind of airheaded, if you'll excuse the pun. That's our flying- gym, and they lead their gym in a pretty lax way. They have a big emphasis on creativity.
Chloria City's built in and around this huge ancient forest, and the grass-type gym is led by Holly, a venusaur. She won't let anyone push her around, and to her, grass-types are deep-rooted and immovable. Even fire-types are scared of that gym!
The fourth gym is water-, and it's... here in Dynamene! The leader, Brooke, is a human, and she's this tiny little thing. But don't let that fuckin' deceive you, 'cause she'll knock you on your ass with a harsh wave before you can blink.
Amphic City's kinda nearby, and it has the poison-type gym. It's led by Ethyl, a toxicroak who owns probably the most prestigious bar in Alliair. Seriously, I sound crazy right now, but it's a nice bar, and the gym is there. And no, no underaged drinking is encouraged.
Out up north is the resort town of Frostridge. Oh yeah, try 'n guess what the gym's type is there. No points for correct guesses. The ice-type gym is led by Cole, an ice-type darmanitan snowboarder who's really got the whole chilling out thing down pat. Oh my god, I sound like Roxanne...
In the wealthy crystal mining town of Hollowfaire is Kelly, a fairy-type rapidash. Girls go crazy for him, and he themed his gym in a blind-dating style. The "dates" are just battles against gym staff, though, thankfully. I think if I went into a gym match and the leader started hitting on me, I'd have to burn something down.
And the eighth gym is in Altair City, one of, if not the oldest formal city in Alliair. The gym is psychic-type, and the leader, Arcelia is thought to have been there since the city was built. They're a solrock, and they certainly seem to give off that vibe from what I've seen.
As for gimmicks, or whatever, you could say the region's big thing is Fusion Battles. Your team has two members on the field at a time, and they use Fusion to become a single, more powerful fighter. If you can work together like that, a lot of them have the raw power to take on Mega Evolved competitors head-on.

A Twist of Fate ch.30 -True Love's Despair
The Elementalist au
Beckett x MC (Oriana)
words: 2299
Series Master List
Complete Master List
This AU is set after everyone graduates Penderghast, and Beckett and Oriana were never friends. Fate, however, may have a different plan for them.
Tumblr media
Beckett was able to avoid his friend’s questions Thursday, but when Friday arrived, they both jumped on him almost as soon as he walked in the door. Late. Again.
“Happy hour!!” Tom cried. “I have permission to stay out until 8pm!! But then I have to put the kids to bed so Jesse can have a break…”
Beckett rolled his eyes. “I don’t think we’ll be out that late, guys. It doesn’t take three hours to drink two pitchers.”
“What I’m saying is, there’s no rush. Jesse and Melissa are both worried about you. They can’t believe Oriana just up and disappeared.”
“There were a few uh…select words Melissa used about the situation.” Dave grimaced.
“She’s coming back.” Beckett replied. “Don’t talk bad about her.”
“She was actually wondering who you’ll be spending Christmas with?”
Beckett blinked. He hadn’t even thought of the holidays that were fast approaching. “I haven’t thought about it. I’ve never been big on celebrating holidays, it was never a big thing in my family. So…I’m probably doing nothing.”
He frowned thinking of his last encounter with his parents. If they knew Oriana was gone, they’d probably be thrilled. Katrina had called him a couple of times, but he ignored the calls and didn’t return them. He didn’t know what to say.
“I’ll…see you later.” He mumbled, turning on his computer and getting settled. Overall, he was feeling better. He was no longer nauseous; his friends were making sure he was eating. He was still barely sleeping, but it was better than nothing. All the same, he was broken, and only Oriana could put him back together. He knew neither Dave nor Tom would be as forgiving when she showed up again. Or their wives, apparently.
At this point…I wonder if it’s even possible to forgive her. She’s been gone five days without a trace.
He tapped his pen against the wooden desk. He’d called all the area hospitals and police stations. He had managed to get through to Shreya, and she seemed genuinely surprised that she hadn’t heard a thing. It was the same with Zephyr.
There was only one person left he could think of to get in touch with, and he really didn’t want to find his phone number. Is it worth it? What will he do if he finds out she’s missing?
He pondered the question. But he needs to face facts. It’s possible Oriana went back to Chase, and as soon as he’s done doing god knows what to her as punishment, he’ll send for her things. Shaking that from his thoughts, he searched the internet for his phone number. Once he found it, he took a deep breath…and dialed from his work phone. It rang twice.
“Hello?” The voice sounded through the speaker.
“H-hi, Chase, this is Beckett. Harrington.”
The was a pause on the other end of the line. “The fuck you want? How’d you get this number?”
Beckett cleared his throat nervously. “I was wondering…uh...if you’ve seen…”
Suddenly loud laughter crackled through before Chase spoke again. “She left you, didn’t she? It was only a matter of time, loser.”
“But…”
“Look, I don’t know where she is, but she’s not here. And if she shows up, her ass will be on the street anyway. I know she’s been fucking you, but I didn’t give her permission to, like I did with…”
Beckett hung up, anger coursing through him. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to call that guy. But at least Oriana isn’t there.
He felt a mixture of relief and disappointment. Relief that she wasn’t with Chase, but disappointed because he had nothing else to go on. But as long as her things were still in his house…there was hope she’d return.
Turning back to his computer, he opened file after file, inputting notes and adding instructions, going through the motions as though he was on auto-pilot. At lunch, Dave dropped a sandwich off at his desk that Melissa had made him. I can’t believe someone else’s wife is taking care of me…making sure I eat. This is ridiculous, I have to pull myself together. I can use the locator spell later, to hell with telling her I wouldn’t use it. This is my life and I’m going to put it back together. I have plenty of her things, it’ll be easy enough. She’s had enough space. No more.
Nodding to himself about his plan, he attempted to focus the rest of the day, and when 5pm rolled around, the three men went to their usual bar.
Beckett hadn’t been planning on drinking a lot as he was going to search for Oriana right after, but his glass kept filling up with fresh beer. Since he didn’t drink all that much, by his third glass he already felt a bit tipsy. The guys were talking about anything and everything that didn’t evolve around relationships. Beckett was half-heartedly chiming in every now and then. He knows they mean well but…
“I’m going to find her tonight.” He suddenly announced. “I have a lead and I’m going to use it. I’m finishing this drink and I’m going.”
“What’s the lead?” Tom asked uncertainly.
Beckett just shrugged. “Let’s just say I have access to some excellent resources.”
“Then why did you just drive around looking? Why not use those resources before?”
“She told me not to.”
Dave spoke quietly. “Look, Beckett…it’s been five days. I hate to say it but…I don’t think she’s coming back or she would have by now. I hate seeing you so distraught every day and now that it’s the weekend…”
“We won’t be around you all day to make sure you’re taking care of yourself.” Tom finished. “And honestly…we’re all pretty pissed at her for doing this to you. It’s not right.”
Beckett slammed his glass down on the table. “You guys just don’t understand. You don’t know the full story. The things she said to my parents? She defended me so fiercely and with so much passion. You didn’t see it. You didn’t hear it. You weren’t around her on a daily basis, you have no idea what she’s truly like. Something bad happened after dinner and it triggered a flight response in her. She thinks she’s protecting me. She literally thinks that leaving me was the best thing she could do to protect me. It’s not that she doesn’t love me because she does. It was the last thing she said to me. So I would appreciate it if you would all lay off her, because I will get her back. And then you will accept her again as though she never left. Nothing is her fault. It’s not my fault. It just happened.”
He picked up his beer again and downed it before noticing his two friends were still staring at him, surprised by his outburst.
“What?” He asked angrily.
Tom finally managed to speak. “I’ve never seen you be this vocal before. In fact…you’ve never been this assertive. It’s just surprising.”
“Do you need help? Whatever you need, we’ll be there.” Dave added. “I’m sorry for what I said, I didn’t realize…you didn’t tell us exactly what happened. I shouldn’t have assumed to know anything. Seriously, Beckett, let us help you. That’s what friends do.”
Beckett blew out a breath. “And I told you before, I don’t need help. I can do this on my own.”
“Of course, you can. But you don’t have to.”
Beckett looked back and forth between his friends faces and found himself nodding. “Okay. If what I have planned doesn’t work…then you can help figure out my next move. But let me try this first.”
For the first time in a week, he had hope that he was going to find her. He’d go home, get one of her bracelets, perform the spell, and have her back within the hour. He was completely positive.
  Meanwhile….
“Have a good weekend, Oriana. See you Tuesday. Let me know if you want us to still screen your calls.”
Oriana looked up from her desk and gave her colleague a half-smile. “Thanks Linda. Enjoy your weekend.”
“Are you doing anything fun?” Linda asked
Oriana thought about the plan she had for the evening. “No. Not even close. See you Tuesday.”
It was 5:05 on Friday night and she was leaving the Aquarium along with everyone else. She’s been doing this every day since she ran away from Beckett. She couldn’t believe she hurt him. The guilt was eating her alive. She’d shut off her cell phone, so she wouldn’t be tempted to answer his calls or call him herself. She knew he was worried sick, literally, she was nauseated and throwing up on a regular basis, and she knew he wasn’t okay by any means. She wasn’t either. In fact, leaving him took the last amount of strength she had, and she’s been miserable ever since. She was starting to question whether she’d made the right decision or not.
She knew he’d called looking for her, but she was having the secretary screen the calls for anyone not business related. She’d given Linda several names specifically, and if it were one of them, she was to inform that Oriana had not shown up all week.
She felt terrible for lying, terrible for making her colleagues lie, and terrible knowing how Beckett felt when Linda told him she wasn’t around. That’s what was making everything so much worse. The fact that she could still feel him. She’s been searching for ways to block it, but so far has come up blank. Just like magick is innate…so are these types of connections.
There was a cab waiting to take her to Beckett’s house. She’d told everyone that her car was in the shop getting fixed after being rear-ended, but now that it was the weekend, she needed it. She was hoping that Beckett’s friends persuaded him to go to the bar that night. They hadn’t been out just the guys in a while, and she had a feeling they would drag him there even if he refused. She was counting on it.
Normally at this time of day, she just made a lap around the block a couple times before returning to the Aquarium. She’d unlock the door, slip back in unnoticed, locking it behind her. It was a well-equipped building with tons of supplies. There was a couch in the employee lounge that she slept on, there were extra blankets, laundry machines, microwave, refrigerators, and extremely large showers. Monday after work she’d gone to get several new outfits and toiletries, since all of hers were at Beckett’s and also picked up food for the week. It wasn’t exactly ideal, but she managed, and no one knew what she was doing. But now she needed to do something different. She’d found a nearby hotel that gives discounted rates for long-term stays. She was only booking by the night, but had an agreement with the manager to not be forced to switch rooms if she stayed. Each room was equipped with a small kitchenette, a television, fridge. She’d stay there until she found an apartment, which she’d already found a couple online she’d tour this weekend. Another reason she needs her car. She’d even taken the coming Monday off in case she needed it, in case, miraculously, she found somewhere she could move in right away, or needed to continue her search.
Driving across town in the backseat of the cab, she let her tears silently fall as she kept thinking of Beckett’s face when she’d physically harmed him. It was the exact thing she was terrified of the entire time she’s known him. He should have listened to her when she said she wasn’t good for him, that she was dangerous.
She let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding as the car approached her house. Only Beckett’s house now. She thought miserably. She was right, there was no sign of him. His car wasn’t there. Paying the cabbie, she stepped out, inhaling the fresh air, letting the cold wind dry her tears. She knew what to do. She went inside.
  Several Hours Later…
Beckett finally arrived home, glad his friends let him go after he’d sobered up a bit. As he approached his house, his heart basically stopped beating. His driveway was empty, Oriana had come while he was out. Cursing under his breath, he dashed inside, calling her name and running up the stairs into the spare bedroom, stopping short when he saw the empty dresser drawers and empty hangers in the closet. There was nothing in the room. He went into the bedroom they shared, already knowing what he’d find, but needing to see it. Sure enough, everything of hers was gone, including any dirty clothes that hadn’t been washed yet. He tore through the upstairs rooms, not even noticing that several of his shirts were missing as she’d taken them with her.
Numbly he went back down the stairs. There’s nothing left. I have nothing to use to find her.
Walking into the kitchen he immediately noticed something left on the counter. He picked up her key and stared at it, wondering if he could use it to locate her, quickly muttering the spell…but nothing happened. He felt nothing. There was no pull, no sense of direction.
That’s because technically it’s not her key…it’s my spare key. We never made one just for her.
Realization hit him like a freight train. She’s really gone. She came here, she was waiting until she thought I would definitely not be home. And she knows me well enough that she was right.
He collapsed against the wall, sobbing. There was no way to find her now.

M20 Pre-Release
Had my M20 Pre-Release today. Flying is confirmed to be OP. At my LGS The Top 3 Decks All ran Blue and all had flying as the main theme, the top 2 both had Mu Yanling in their decks. #1 was Blue/Black #2 Was Blue//White/Black #3 White/Blue/Red (Colours ordered by most prominent in each deck).
Tumblr media
Click keep reading for details of my pre-release.
My pool was pretty nuts, easily better than both pools I had on Arena. My Promo was Leyline of Sanctity, great for constructed but useless for sealed. I sleeved it and stuck it in a deck box. The Rares I opened in my packs were really good though. The only one I didn’t play was Scheming Symmetry the others were: Temple of Mystery, Drawn From Dreams, Sephara Sky’s Blade, Ajani Strength of the Pride and Chandra Awakened Inferno. It was pretty easy to decide what deck to make. My white was really strong, so I decided I’d use that and see which of the colors was the best support for my white. While Red did have a strong bomb and piece of removal the rest of it was not great (could be good for elemental aggro but I wasn’t playing that), when I looked at my land though I saw I did have enough fixing to splash red so I went white/blue splashing red. You may have guessed by now that I was the one who came 3rd. Here is my Decklist:
Soulmender Daybreak Chaplain Pacifism Aerial Assault Angel of Vitality Griffin Protector Ajani, Strength of the Pride Dawning Angel Herald of the Sun Sephara, Sky’s Blade Zephyr Charge Anticipate Brineborn Cutthroat Frost Lynx Fortress Crab Sleep Paralysis Drawn From Dreams Boreal Elemental Air Elemental Empyrean Eagle Reduce to Ashes Chandra, Awakened Inferno Temple of Mystery Swiftwater Cliffs Tranquil Cove Wind-Scarred Crag Evolving Wilds Plains x7 Island x5 Mountain
So the way the Deck worked most of the time was stall the game until I get my bombs, which I got almost every game thanks to both Anticipate and Drawn from Dreams. It worked really well.
Round 1 Vs Esper Fliers 0-2 This was my only defeat of the day against the person who ended up coming 2nd in the tournament. Both games he played Mu Yanling on turn 3 and protecting it with big flying creatures and removal. Without being able to ever get board control his planeswalker stayed alive all game. Game 1 had a board stall for a long time, normally board stalls are broken with flying but this board stall was with flying creatures, it felt bad. Game 2 went worse for me as I could not keep enough flying creatures in play to ever cause a board stall let alone have board control myself. Mu Yanling used its ult and I quickly lost after that. Round 2 Vs Orzhov 2-0 My opponent had also opened Ajani but both games I got mine down first and closed out the game pretty quickly with Pridemates. They revealed they had their own Ajani in hand but didn’t play it because it would have just died to my board. Round 3 Vs Dimir Control 2-0 In game 1 my opponent surprised me with an early Duress getting rid of My Ajani and both games they played a Dread Presence which picked off my smaller creatures.  Apart from that though the games went pretty smoothly for me, I got down some fliers and proceded to win with some flying beat down. I drew and hard cast Sephara in both games (fun fact: I never cast her for her alternate cost), she got murdered immediately in both but my opponents lack of flying creatures meant I still won. Round 4 Vs Mardu Aggro 2-0 Game 1 I got some early creatures and removal to stall out the early game, I eventually cast a Sephara and my opponent lacked removal for it. A few hits from Sephara and my opponent was dead and I was on 52 Life, most life I gained all day. Game 2 I mana flooded pretty badly, my opponent’s aggro plan was working. Thankfully I drew into Drawn From Dreams which got me both my walkers. My opponent stopped my only creature (frost lynx) from blocking and got me down to 11. I played Chandra and used her -3 to kill all of my opponents creatures, none of them were elementals or above 3 toughness. I proceded to play Ajani, make a pridemate and then for the rest of the game just used my planeswalkers + abilities. At the end of the game my opponent had 5 emblems from Chandra. So the planeswalkers are really good in this set (the Jeskai ones at least, I never saw a Sorin or Vivien) but nothing beats the Flying deck. So when I draft this set I think I’ll either go for flying or draft every spider and plummet I see. This is the first set I’ve ever played where I’d recommend main decking plummet.

mistletoe
(no one sent this prompt I just wrote it bc I’m igyts trash. Also, I’m not a writer so this is probably bad asfflkajskl)
Jude Age 14
I hate mistletoe.
Given my trademark infatuation with the superstitious, most assume mistletoe is one of my good omens. In fact, Grandma Sweetwine’s Bible makes no mention of the spiky sprig, so I am left to turn to traditional ancient lore to find meaning in it.
The Druids believed mistletoe was a magical cure for every ailment. On the eve of their new year, they gathered it from oak trees, careful to not let it touch the ground. Then they hung it over their doorways and made it into drinks to take advantage of its fortuitous properties.
Mistletoe is actually poisonous. What’s more, it’s parasitic. It invades the soil around another plant’s roots and seeps the life out of it in order to live. The Druids were trying to cure one poison with another.
The more well-known connotation seems ridiculous to me. It’s as if we ignore the obvious danger of the plant for its seemingly harmless and beautiful appearance. (Better not walk under the mistletoe unless you want to smooch someone! What a joke.) Even if I did, the boycott is under full effect. They say if a woman is not kissed under the mistletoe at all during the season, she is destined to stay single for a year. That’s absolutely fine with me.
Some well-intentioned (or possibly mischievously-intentioned) CSA students thought it was a great idea to line the halls with the offending parasite. I’ve managed to mostly avoid it, but I have to check before I walk through doorways. (This isn’t too much extra effort: doorways are an auspicious liminal space anyway, so I’ve always been careful. Depending on who you ask, walking through an entryway backwards can be good or bad luck. Though, most things are either good luck or bad luck depending on who you ask.)
Once, though, I was in a rush to get to Anatomy (the science requirement for CSA students - it’s meant to be more tailored towards aspiring artists. I like it better than traditional science classes, but they still haven’t taught me what I really want to know. How can your twin brother’s beautiful brain suddenly stop communicating with his body? Why does my heart still feel pain when I’m hurt if emotions are controlled by the mind? What happens to the human body when it’s run through with a car?) In my haste, I didn’t look up before entering, and ended up nearly colliding with Caleb Cartwright (art-is-truth, I-have-no-filter Caleb Cartwright). I only dropped my pencil, but when I bent down to pick it up, there was snickering from within the classroom.
“Mistletoe,” one boy with purple hair pointed out. He looked immensely pleased with himself, despite the fact that he had spinach stuck in his teeth. “Wouldn’t want to defy tradition, would you, CJ?”
I gritted my teeth. In fact, I did not subscribe to every superstition out there, I wanted to say. I borrowed from what I saw fit, but Grandma Sweetwine’s Bible was my only obligation. Instead of saying anything, however, I pushed past Caleb, who looked like he couldn’t care less, honestly.
“No offense,” started Randy Brown. “But you look red as a tomato, CJ.”
I probably did. I willed my body to cease its vasodilation (a word I learned in Anatomy. See, education is not wasted on me.) The CSA kids aren’t nearly as malicious as those at my old school, but they often don’t have the tact (or the desire, maybe) to keep themselves from saying whatever came to mind. I wondered how Noah was surviving at the normal high school.
The bell rang, and I took my usual seat next to Fish. (Most CSA teachers changed the seating arrangements regularly to “promote evolving artistic collaboration,” but Anatomy was different because it involved lab partners.) Fish was staring intently at a Rubik’s cube she was holding in her hand. I wondered when she had gotten it, as I’d never seen her with it before.
I snap out of the memory. The mistletoe has started disappearing over the past few weeks, but I keep up my constant vigilance. I spot a sprig laying on the door frame leading to the art wing.
They say if mistletoe is allowed to touch the ground, disaster is sure to follow.
I flick the mistletoe off the door frame. I’m Calamity Jude, after all. Disaster seems to follow me anyway.
Jude Age 16
Maybe the Druids were right.
I keep finding bits of mistletoe in the hood of my jacket. Maybe it’s the work of my fellow CSA students, but I can’t imagine what reasons they would have for that and I doubt they would keep up the prank for five days in a row. More likely, it’s one (or both) of my matriarchal specters who is responsible. If it was meant to frustrate me, it’s probably Mom. If it’s supposed to...encourage me, or get me in the “holiday spirit,” it’s probably Grandma.
The French called mistletoe the “specter’s wand” and thought that its holder would have the power to see and communicate with ghosts. (I’ve never needed help with that.)
Regardless of the planter’s intention, the mistletoe has brought me good luck for once. Or that’s the way it appears.
Guillermo has agreed to mentor me, and English Guy (whose name is OSCORE!) is...certainly something. I keep having to remind myself of the boycott. Yesterday he tried to return the orange to me, telling me that “satsumas” are traditionally given as gifts around Christmastime in his home country.
My mind keeps drifting back to my last class before break: Thematic and Symbolic Art History. The lesson of the day was about, of all things, mistletoe. Or, at least, it was mistletoe-inspired. We learned the history and controversy surrounding works depicting the act of kissing. As in, The Kiss. All three versions: Klimt, Brancusi, Rodin. I wish Guillermo’s works had been included, now.
Guillermo is introducing me to his methods of teaching. I thought Oscar’s modeling would be a one-time thing, but apparently I need a lot of practice in portraiture if I’m going to ever sculpt my mother. I’ve drawn Oscar a lot now. His face is practically seared into the back of my mind. (Does it violate the boycott if I’m thankful his face is so nice to look at?)
Some ancient peoples believed that mistletoe had the power to open all locks. (Do hearts count as locks?)
Am I stupid to dream?
Jude Age 18
I’ve warmed to the mistletoe idea over the years.
It might have something to do with the fact that Noah is currently enthusiastically hanging mistletoe around the houseboat. Like the boat’s name, his sudden interest in the superstition, statistically my area of expertise, is a mystery. (Or maybe not: he only started decorating after Dad and I extracted a promise from him that the kissing rule would not be under effect. I doubt he’ll tell that to Brian, however, when he comes back from vacation tomorrow.) The anniversary of Mom’s death seems to loom less ominously than in previous years.
My wary appreciation, however, doesn’t entirely stem from my brother’s antics.
Christmas isn’t really a big thing in the Sweetwine family. When we were little, Noah and I made sandmen instead of snowmen, and our gingerbread houses were definitely not indicators of our level of artistic potential (at least, I hope not). But now the only tradition we have is ordering pizza and staying inside to watch movies, which happens year-round (especially the pizza part when Noah has anything to say about it).
I can appreciate the sentiment of the holiday, though. Renewal. Gratitude. Family.
Love.
I’m sick of losing soulmates. I’ve lost too many, especially in winter. Grandma. Mom (and Dad, for a while, around the same time). Zephyr.
At first, I thought the best way to heal was to cut out all possibility of love in my life. It seemed to be working for Noah. Hence, the boycott.
That went out the window as soon as I met Oscar and Guillermo. “I’m not okay,” Guillermo had said. “I’m not okay either,” I wanted to reply.
When I became Guillermo’s student, I felt like I was healing, through art and through Oscar. But over time, I realized Oscar had his own problems and we tended to amplify one another’s issues rather than resolve them. Being reciprocally “not okay” wasn’t an automatic path to a relationship. The inevitable breakup was mutual (if we were ever even in a relationship). It was nowhere close to being as messy as it could have been.
The whole Oscar thing should have made me more bitter about love. But it was more of a learning experience, really. A person can’t fix you. You can’t fix someone else. And too much of anything can kill you, as my toxicologist father often points out.
Mistletoe is the same way. It’s a parasitic species, yeah, and that shouldn’t be overlooked. Too much, and it seeps the life out of the forest. But in the right amounts, it has its place.
There was Zephyr. There was Oscar. There will be other chances. But for now, I’m content to have all ten fingers to draw and paint and sculpt with, a father and a brother to depend on in this rocking boat of a family, and the resolution to stop avoiding mistletoe as I walk through doorways.
When I think of mistletoe (and when I think of many things), Grandma Sweetwine’s words come to me:
Quick, make a wish. Take a (second or third or fourth) chance. Remake the world.
(Not confident I got the timeline right but just go with it. I know NoahandJude’s birthday is a bit before winter break, Jude met Oscar and Guillermo during winter break, and Diana died during a winter break....merry christmas/happy holidays!!)

Baby Boy Names: Exploring Meaningful, Modern, and Timeless Choices
Naming your child is one of the most personal decisions you will make as a parent. Baby boy names carry emotional, cultural, and even aspirational significance. Whether you're looking for a name that is classic, trendy, or rare, the journey of finding the right one can be both joyful and overwhelming. In this guide, we’ll take a comprehensive look at the best ways to discover meaningful baby boy names that suit your style and values.
Tumblr media
Why Names Matter More Than Ever
A name isn’t just a word — it’s the first gift you give your child. In today’s increasingly global world, baby boy names are being chosen not just for tradition, but for uniqueness, cultural resonance, and future adaptability. Studies show that names can even influence how a child is perceived in social and academic settings.
With rising interest in both trendy baby names and unique baby boy names, many parents are blending traditional roots with contemporary flair.
Top Baby Boy Names for 2025
As naming trends evolve, some names continue to dominate because of their strong phonetics, positive meanings, and global appeal. Here are a few top baby boy names that are expected to trend in 2025:
Leo – Short and powerful, it means “lion” in Latin.
Arlo – A vintage name making a big comeback.
Jasper – A stylish choice with Persian origins meaning “treasurer.”
Silas – Rooted in Latin, meaning “wood” or “forest.”
Rowan – Gender-neutral and associated with nature and strength.
These names reflect a growing preference for names that are simple, modern, and meaningful — ideal traits when searching for baby boy names.
Unique and Rare Baby Boy Names to Stand Out
Some parents prefer rare baby names that ensure individuality. Choosing a unique name sets your child apart and can spark curiosity and admiration.
Here are some fresh picks:
Evren – A Turkish name meaning “cosmos” or “universe.”
Osian – A Welsh name pronounced “O-shan,” meaning “little deer.”
Zephyr – Greek in origin, meaning “west wind.”
Indigo – A bold, color-inspired name gaining popularity.
Caius – A Roman name meaning “rejoice.”
These rare baby boy names aren’t overused, and each carries a rich background, making them special for modern parents.
The Influence of Culture: Hindu Baby Boy Names and Beyond
Culture often plays a central role in the naming process. In many families, it’s essential to choose names that honor spiritual or ancestral heritage.
Here are a few Hindu baby boy names gaining global popularity:
Aarav – Peaceful and calm.
Vivaan – Full of life.
Ishaan – Associated with Lord Shiva.
Rudra – Fierce and strong, another name for Lord Shiva.
Aditya – A traditional name meaning “sun.”
These names are deeply spiritual and rooted in Sanskrit, offering timeless choices for families who value tradition and meaning in baby boy names.
Short and Sweet: Names with One or Two Syllables
Short names are memorable, easy to pronounce, and often cross cultural barriers with ease. They're also high on the list of modern baby names.
Examples include:
Zeke
Taj
Nico
Axel
Eli
These are strong, crisp, and adaptable — perfect if you're seeking baby boy names that are both modern and practical.
Celebrity-Inspired Baby Boy Names
Celebrities often set naming trends, either by choosing vintage revivals or bold new names. Some current inspirations include:
Saint – Used by Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
Apollo – Chosen by Gwen Stefani for her son.

Tumblr media
Factors to Consider When Choosing Baby Boy Names
When deciding among dozens or even hundreds of potential baby boy names, consider these essential factors:
Pronunciation & Spelling: Easy to spell names are more likely to avoid confusion in school and in official documents.
Initials & Nicknames: Make sure initials don’t spell anything awkward. Consider potential nicknames as well.
Future-Proofing: Imagine your son using the name as a child and an adult.
Meaning & Symbolism: Choose a name that aligns with your values, hopes, or cultural identity.
Uniqueness vs. Familiarity: Find a balance between standing out and being easy to accept socially.
A well-chosen name can open doors and build confidence — which is why the search for the right baby boy names deserves careful thought.
Unique Fact: Names Affect Online Visibility
Here’s an intriguing fact you might not know: Unique names can influence your child’s digital footprint. A name like “Aarav Malik” will generate fewer search results than “John Smith,” making it easier for your child to establish a distinct online presence in the future. In today’s digital age, this could benefit career-building, networking, and personal branding.
This means that when selecting baby boy names, some tech-savvy parents are already thinking long-term — beyond preschool and into the professional world.
Nature-Inspired Baby Boy Names
Nature continues to be a rich source of inspiration, especially as eco-conscious parenting rises. Names inspired by natural elements convey strength, beauty, and originality.
Some popular picks include:
River
Ash
Stone
Cedar
Ocean
These baby boy names are deeply connected to the earth and often appeal to parents who value sustainability and harmony with nature.
Biblical and Traditional Baby Boy Names
Classic names never go out of style. If you’re looking for traditional baby boy names with strong moral or religious significance, biblical names remain a solid choice:
David
Daniel
Ezekiel
Joseph
Benjamin
These names have stood the test of time and continue to rank high in lists of top baby boy names year after year.
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts
Naming your son is a profound and joyful responsibility. Whether you’re leaning toward trendy baby names, culturally rooted options, or something entirely new, the right choice lies in what feels meaningful to your family. In a world filled with evolving tastes and diverse identities, the search for perfect baby boy names continues to be both exciting and deeply personal.
By exploring different name origins, meanings, and trends, you empower yourself to choose a name that your child will carry proudly — one that reflects identity, values, and the love with which it was given.

Evolve Monsters for Monster Hunter
Although unlikely to happen anytime ever, I think Evolve’s Monsters could fit in the Monster Hunter series.
Goliath and Behemoth would be quite menacing Brute Wyverns, Wraith and Kraken would most likely be Elder Dragons if not Flying Wyverns/Leviathans, and the Gorgon would be a Neopteron/Temnoceran. Their movesets would be the same as they are in Evolve, just adjusted for better AI control and to fit into Monster Hunter. Even my own Monster ideas could be in Monster Hunter, that would be cool (Not going to happen, but still).
Goliath, a Monster that could rival Deviljho as most feared Brute Wyvern, would be an aggressive creature with tremendous strength and speed. Inflicting fire blight with its fire breath and possibly leap smash, Goliath will not mess around. Meteor Goliath would be the subspecies/variant, and as in Evolve will inflict fire blight with every move it does.
Kraken, possibly the Monster that might receive the most intense overhaul of all the Monsters, would be turned into a Flying Wyvern if not a Leviathan. With having to fuse its forearms and wings together, unless made an Elder Dragon of lightning and wind, would change how the beast was fought in one game for the other. Vortex, aftershock, banshee mine, and lightning strike will all inflict thunder blight to all that are struck, and the Elder Kraken variant would inflict dragon blight with its red lightning. Fear the flying squid wyvern/dragon.
Wraith, oh boy. She’ll be similar to how she was in Legacy Evolve, as well as some of her changes in Evolve 2. Recommended to bring Brightmoss to tag her if she goes invisible (Also a way to bring Chameleos to the New World). She’ll be the phantom on the map, leaving behind minimal footprints due to levitation, the only tell that she’s on the map would be desiccated corpses and claw marks. Abduction will rarely be used, except to grab a Hunter. Warp blast will be the same, might inflict blast blight. Supernova will be the same as Evolve 2 where she shrouds herself in energy and attacks much faster. Decoy will be the same as Legacy’s where she can turn invisible to either flee or reposition as a shade fights for her. The male, Specter, will be the same except he will inflict a movement speed debuff to Hunters during his supernova. Both are immune to flash pods, but screamer pods will do the trick.
Behemoth, a monster that could rival Akantor in strength, is the master of lava and earth. Rolling rapidly in a ball like Uragaan, this stone plated brute is no pushover. Tongue grab will ensnare a Hunter and pull them close to Behemoth. Lava bomb will inflict fire blight and create a large environmental hazard to avoid. Fissure will cause knockback and blast blight to anyone caught in it, and tremors to anyone near it. Not sure if rock wall will be a thing, but if it is, it will help and hinder both Monster and Hunters. Glacial Behemoth will be similar to Evolve 2′s, just inflicting ice blight with all of its moves.
Gorgon, the spider Monster reliant on whittling down her opponents, might receive a visual overhaul to make her more spider and less alien. Inflicting poison with most, if not all, of her moves. Acid spit would inflict poison and defense down, similar to Jho saliva (Without the poison, that is). Web snare would root a Hunter and drain health until freed. Spider trap would be more of an additional enemy to focus instead of an actual trap. Mimic might not make it to Monster Hunter.
Now time for my creations.
Basilisk, the Snake Wyvern who’s vision is as lethal as its venom. Basilisk’s eyes are closed until it unleashes its death stare, ranging from blinding light to dragon blight and doing damage in the process. Basilisk can either breath clouds of poison, spray streams of venom, or hurl globs of toxic mucus. When enraged, its hide toughens to where only the sharpest of weapons can penetrate its stone-like skin. This four armed Snake Wyvern is immune to flash pods, except at the right moment, and even then timing has to be perfect or else.
Zephyr, a Flying Wyvern or Fanged Beast (It is a bat after all). On the ground Zephyr will move around like a giant bat, but much more agile than one. It will attack with wind and punches from its wing arms. Once it takes flight, the battle gets a touch more difficult, where it will have an acidic aura around it and splash its acid in an area when it dive bombs the ground.
Thanatos, an Elder Dragon with necromatic abilities like Vaal Hazak, except built like Wraith. Thanatos can spread darkness, impeding vision, raise the dead, and create portals to travel through (Through the ground and out a wall and vise versa).
Charybdis, a Carapaceon that can do the neck think like Khezu and Gigginox. A cross between a lobster and an anemone, Charybdis has venomous tentacles surrounding its cavernous maw. Dealing paralysis and water blight, it’ll make sure its prey never escapes.
Grendel, a Brute Plant Wyvern, is an aggressive Monster that will hunt anything, if it isn’t sunbathing. It’s saliva is similar to plant sap that it will hinder/immobilize victims. Coating its body are several blooms that produce spores with different effects, making it difficult for melee users without the right protection.
Broodmother, a Neopteron/Temnoceran with spawning abilities. She’d look like a cross between a Zerg Queen and Atlal Ka. She has a symbiotic relationship with the smaller creatures that live in/on her, and she has control over them as the Hunters do with the Kinsect.
