Reading your Bookstore AU and immediately lol’d at the idea of Tom thinking for a substantial amount of time that Harry is super broke and being infuriated that someone (he likes) could be that bad at managing money and what would it be like when he finally discovers that Harry actually has a LOT of money, he just constantly forgets 😂
For the longest time he's just scratching his head at how this store is still functioning when Harry is clearly dirt poor (I mean, just look at how he dresses normally), and then Tom finds out that oh no it's not a case of not having money, it's a case of forgetting the money exists and he's just pressing his face into his hands because HOW?

So I was reading your No One Suspects the Butterfly AU posts again and I have to ask? What would Tom do if someone else hurt Harry? How would he react? Gleefully? Disappointed? Realize how huge a part of his life was devoted to Evans? Angry? Possessive? This is my annoying life ruining hufflepuff and you can’t have him?
Well, Tom is, at his core, a possessive person. I think that he has wrapped himself up in a layer of delusion for a majority of his time knowing Harry, linking several of his stronger emotions to something weak like ‘rivalry’ or simply a desire to beat Harry.
But if someone else did harm Harry, if someone dared to attack - to touchbreakdamage - the man Tom had declared his? He would rain hellfire down on the one responsible. Harry belongs to Tom, and anyone that encroaches on his territory would have to suffer the consequences. He might not be a Dark Lord in this AU, he might be a member of the DMLE, but he is not a good person.

So I went and read Gold Dust. It was really good but BOY was it heavy. I think I’ll refrain from reading any new chapters until the story reaches the point where things start getting better. I have to have something better to look forward to or I just drown in the sads. Curse my sensitive soul.
Buuuuuuut, while I was reading I had a sudden moment of realization of how freaking similar Narutos childhood was to Harry Potters. Both sent to people who were supposed to take care of them but were resentful and terrified of them and instead mistreated them. Both were abused mentally, emotionally, and possibly physically. Both are orphans. Both don’t know shit about their parents growing up. Both are surrounded by people who are not like them and don’t understand them and their differences. Both have godfathers who don’t take care of them and aren’t in the picture until their preteens. Both have a great power they know nothing of. Both are constantly being attacked and singled out from their peers. Both don’t have friends until they hit 11/12. Both are betrayed/mistreated by their world/village. Like damnnnnn. I’m even sure I missed some. They could be childhood trauma buddies.
All this made me think... Have you ever thought about writing a Harry Potter/Naruto crossover? I find the idea of teen/adult Harry Potter raising little or not so little Naruto absolutely fascinating. You could make it absolute crack or have Harry be super traumatized from his own shit, or anything in between. I am now mesmerized by the idea and am going to go search to see if this type of fic exists anywhere, so wish me luck!
Yeah, Gold Dust is a bit dark in the first bit, and will get worse before it gets better. I’m doing a more gritty, realistic take, so we getting to see aallllll the trauma before I give people some happiness 😂
And the stark similarities between Harry and Naruto are probably why they’re some of my favourite characters to play with. While I don’t normally go for crossovers, I could see a ‘Harry raises Naruto’ scenario working pretty well - particularly if it’s a traumatised but takes-no-shit Harry that gets one look at the ninja world and goes:
and proceeds to block any and all bullshit Konoha tries to throw his and Naruto’s way. Everything would be so much smoother. Madara wouldn’t last two seconds.

How are we so in similar!? Pretty much every fandom I share with you, I ship the same characters and like the same characters as you. You’re like my angsty darker fandom mirror twin! It’s awesome because I know whatever you write or read is also something I’m gonna enjoy! This is prompted because I saw you ship ShikaNaru which is my newest shiny. I literally stumbled over the Naruto fandom a couple months back and dove in headfirst. Shikamaru is one of the most underrated characters in that show and I love him and all his possibilities. Female Naruto is also always very fun. I find the inherent shift in perceptions, expectations, and actions from being female instead of male especially fun and interesting to delve into and explore in Naruto because of his complicated situation and the sexism/misogyny that runs through the shinobi system and that universe in general. If you ever write anything in that fandom I will be SO excited!
Oh boy oh boy, darling - you’re in for a treat. Have you read my Gold Dust story yet then? Female Naruto, platonic soulmates Sasuke and Naruto, high potential for Shikanaru, Good-Friends-Team 7 - I’m going all in from Naruto’s childhood. If you haven’t then I’d encourage a read. It might be something you like 😉

Sorry, it’s me again. Hope I’m not bugging you. I just saw that ask about your first fanfic and saw that you started out on fanfiction . net Did you start writing on there too as well as reading? And how did you handle the lawlessness of the fanfic equivalent of the Wild West?
I also started out there and it was the most crazy, chaotic, dumpster fire of a website. Pretty much Tumblr before the NSFW purge, and all without tags. I know you’ve said before you NEED tags and they def didn’t have them. The things I saw 👀... I found both some of my favorite tropes and characters as well as my biggest triggers and squicks. Always by accident, because trigger warnings were rare, tagging was pretty much nonexistent, and the little tagging that appeared in the summary or A/N varied wildly across fics and fandoms and had no consistency for the terms used. Those were Dark times.
When I discovered Ao3 for the first time it was like I saw the light at the end of a dark tunnel. I was so blown away by the tags and filtering and OMG it had built in warnings you could filter out!!! And people could tag tropes and ideas and you could find more fics with a similar idea!!! It was so exciting. One of the best things that’s ever happened to me.
You’re not bugging me at all, darling!
I did start writing on Fanfiction.Net! I posted my first story when I was eleven, it was a Naruto one, and it...didn’t go well. I think I was generally just too young to really be affected by or understand the brutality of that site for a long while. I mainly stayed in my own little bubble, and stopped writing when I was about fourteen/fifteen, so I didn’t see a lot of the bad shit. When I came back at seventeen, I went straight to AO3 to post CS, and only started cross-posting on FF.Net after quite a few chapters. So I don’t actually remember much of the toxicity - and thank god for that!
Generally, I much prefer AO3 over FF.Net because of the tagging system. It’s so much more comprehensive and really gets rid of a lot of the stress when trying to avoid stuff I don’t like. Now, if I click on a story that has stuff I don’t like, it’s usually my fault for not reading the tags correctly. It’s nice as an author as well, since if you tag appropriately, no one really has the right to complain to you about your story content :D
