Writing Prompt for 2nd photo:
Under the harsh glare of the sun, a cluster of benches sits scattered and half-buried in sand, their quiet arrangement creating an almost eerie stillness. They seem to face one another, as though frozen in the middle of an interrupted conversation. Their weathered surfaces and the emptiness around them evoke a sense of abandonment, as if they were once a gathering place for life and connection but are now forgotten. In the background, the outline of a docked ship and industrial cranes contrasts with the stillness of the benches, hinting at movement and progress far away from this quiet scene. Together, these elements create a feeling of isolation and loss, a reminder of how time erases even the most communal spaces.

Title: Beyond the Shadows
Through the interplay of light and shadow, Beyond the Shadows explores the layers of identity shaped by stereotypes and self-expression. These photographs juxtapose the assumptions cast upon me—rooted in religion, culture, and education—against the reality of who I am.
A burkha in shadows contrasts with the warm glow of meditation, revealing my journey from expectation to spirituality. The cold blue light of a hoodie-clad coder dissolves into the warmth of my art and code coexisting. Traditional dance forms emerge from the past, only to meet the fluidity of ballroom under golden light. A saree draped in tradition transforms into modern attire, illuminated by the vibrancy of the present.
This series captures the delicate balance between what is seen and what is hidden, what is assumed and what is true. It invites viewers to step beyond the confines of light and shadow, stereotype and reality, and see identity as a dynamic, evolving spectrum.

Proposal for Final Project
Title: Through the eyes of others: Revealing Layers of Personality
I am planning on taking 6-7 pictures. All of the pictures will be portraying the stereotypes people think of mostly when they hear different words about a person and my personal duality.
Typical CS student assumption:
Image 1: I plan on setting up my computer science related coder background for the coder personality
Image 2: Set up the background with some of my art work and me working on one of my pieces
In burkha in meditative pose: It shows what people assumes how would a muslim women dress and then myself who does not fit that stereotype
Image 1: Dressing up in burkha and covering face with Afgani jewelry
Image 2: Dressing up in a saree and be in meditative pose
Addresses skin color : As a apsara in my traditional dance outfit, mostly they are shown for light skinned women. So I wanted to address that essence.
Image 1: Dressed in a traditional dance outfit in a dance pose
Image 2: Dressed in my ballroom dance outfit(little unsure about this)
Female body stereotype: Taking a picture of flaws Image 1: Dress in a normal outfit and show myself without flaws, planning on using Photoshop Image 2: Dress to show my scar
I am planning on using the golden hour light for the pictures to have obvious effect of light and shadow. I am using an artificial lamp that have golden hour effect. I will decide after taking the pictures if I want to have colorful pictures or black and white.

Title: Through the Lace: Pre-Wedding Reverie
Inspired by Cindy Sherman
In these images, I portray a Christian bride. The series begins with a shy, newlywed bride preparing to walk down the aisle. As the sequence unfolds, the veil lifts to reveal the complex emotions she experiences. She feels trapped by the weight of marital responsibilities, fearful of losing her identity, and anxious about what lies ahead. The images delve into her deeper reflections on the choices she’s made. Gradually, she embraces her role, begins to envision a hopeful future, and in the final frame, finds happiness and acceptance in her new journey.

Title: Finding a new family and rediscovering myself.
Sunsets at Port Jefferson Beach capture more than just the beauty of the fading light—they reflect the warmth of friendship. These photos, featuring my two closest friends, Mingrong Hou and Anjali Jadeja, symbolize the bond we’ve built over the past two years. I met Anjali at work, and through her, Mingrong. What started as studying together after classes grew into a deep friendship. As an international student without family nearby, Anjali and Mingrong became my support system. They took care of me during tough times, motivated me to push through challenges, and have always been a source of strength.
These sunset moments hold more meaning than just their aesthetic beauty. They remind me of how we’ve lifted each other up, embraced each other’s flaws, and found comfort in simply being ourselves together. The images are a reflection of our shared experiences, a visual representation of the family I’ve found in my friends. With every sunset we witness, I’m reminded of the bond that keeps us together, no matter what life throws our way.

Photographer: Joe Cornish(British photographer) I watched his documentary about how he takes pictures in nature. He worked for National Geography. In his photos, he tries to convey the feeling of being in nature. He looks for depth, and color contrast and tries to create a balance between them. I love looking at and capturing nature and the natural components of my surroundings. I love to see the extraordinary. For example: I have a favorite tree in the south P field on campus. It has depth and a relation with me on a mindful level. So I feel connected to Joe Cornish as I perceive him to have such relation with nature.
