i love souyo a lot because I really love their dynamic. The Yu-Yosuke friendship is so fun to write and depict. Their romance is appealing to me because their friendship and love and loyalty to each other is appealing.

Souyo is so easy because their friendship is easy and layered. Is Yosuke jealous of Yu? Yes. But is he also his hypeman and thinks hes so cool? also yes. In return, Yu thinks the world of Yosuke. he's his first thought when things are out of his capability.

I firmly believe that- if you fail to show how much they love each other-- through a shipping lens or otherwise? you've failed them both as characters.

But... yeah I get, like- the frustration that follows when it feels like a lot of Yosuke content is Yu-centric and yeah it's gonna be.

But, on the other hand. You see a lot of Yosuke stuff either mischaracterizing him and his relationship with the others for (Kanji) (shonen pervert anime trope) (aspect failed to acknowledge because of avoiding his social link or easily missed interaction) (social link variant based on season/time of year that you missed) (content in a spinoff thats annoying to play/get hands on) reasons or for easy gay angst.

because there is a lot to say about him and his relationship with the IT and with others/his community. I think his relationship with Chie is a really fun mix of abrasive and caring. He and Kanji are good friends and thats so fu n. I like how he jumps to offer help to Yukiko when she even hints at struggling. He bends over backwards for Teddie for no reason other than because he knows he needs him and because he cares. Rise and him clearly hang out and have fun together, even though he's a big fan of Risette. He works hard for less than he deserves and saves money for things he wants but still shells out to help Teddie and Chie and Yu. Don't even get me started on Saki (and naoki) and his survivor's guilt. But that only goes so far when all that is wiped away when people go "yeah but the camping scene" or the like.

There are so many fun, wonderful layers to him and I find that most people really like him once they are able to break through that barrier... and it's a really hard barrier to crack, because people will look at you funny when you say he's a favorite character... (superseded only by Teddie.)

I love Souyo, and it's fortunate for me that it's one of the most popular ships. But like.. it's not the only thing barring ppl from being able to talk about Yosuke (and even then- ppl love to depreciate them to 'gay longing' tropes and other Fujo nonsense).

Idk. just some thoughts, is all. Disjointed.

Cool nightmare brain disease where I can't ever truly believe that people are genuinely interested in the things that I say or like and that they're just being polite/ placating me so I'll shut up faster. Put in the added layer that in the small chance that they do it's just because we happen to share a similar interest and they want things from me.
