This week I went back to a previous section in my essay and added my research about Inanna. Above is a photo of Inanna from The Wicked + The Divine. The other picture is of Prince. McKelvie based the design of Inanna on Prince.
This is an article I found about Prince and his iconic trench coat: https://www.dismantlemag.com/2018/09/10/purple-trench-coat-prince-style/
Here is the Wiki on Inanna: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inanna

Week 10
Research
I wrote the last section of my essay this week. I wrote about 500 words on the character Tara from The Wicked + The Divine and and the negative effects that social media had on her in the story.
Tara is one of the gods and has become a famous singer. Unlike most of the other gods she wanted to make music before she became a god. But now she is a god she is unable to pursue her own music career. Instead she must use her new godly powers to make heavenly music, and whenever she tries to perform her own songs she is ridiculed and abused by fans. Gillen shows the dark side to social media when Tara is greatly criticised and bullied by hundreds of people online for just trying to be herself. This is shown by McKelvie in images of horrible tweets that Tara gets sent. These eventually cause her to get Ananke to kill her.
This is an image of some of the tweets.
Here is an article I used for research: https://www.cbr.com/the-wicked-the-divine-13/

Week 9
Research
I’ve been writing about the media and journalism side of The Wicked + The Divine.
The character in the images above is Cassandra. She is a journalist who becomes one of the gods.
I find this interesting as Gillen used to be a journalist himself.
Gillen obviously has some quite strong opinions on the media and the way celebrities are portrayed by them.
Kieron Gillen’s Wikipedia has information on his journalist career.

Week 8
I was unable to include this in the essay, but Lucifer is seen to be listening to Play With Fire by The Rolling Stones in one scene in The Wicked + The Divine.
Perhaps this is an insight to the sort of music Lucifer likes, but it also is used to echo the scene, as Lucifer just broke out of prison and is setting everything in her path on fire.
Here I have included part of the scene in mentioned, and above is the song.

Week 8
Many of Gillen and McKelvie’s characters in The Wicked + The Divine take a lot of inspiration from existing celebrities when it comes to their character design.
Above is a comparison between David Bowie and the character Lucifer from The Wicked + The Divine. You can see the stylistic similarities and influences from Bowie that have inspired Lucifer’s design.
I have included this in may essay.

Week 8
This week I wrote the next section of my essay. Again it will need editing down as it was around 800 words.
In this section I looked at the social aspects of The Wicked + The Divine. Specifically I wanted to focus of the wide range of sexuality and gender identity that is displayed within the series, and its inclusivity.
I have found an article that talks about the sexual politics in The Wicked + The Divine, and used quotes from it in my essay.

The Wicked + The Divine is filled with music and pop culture references. I have used a scene where a xylophone version Welcome to The Black Parade by My Chemical Romance plays as a ringtone as an example of this in my essay. Above you can listen to the original song, and bellow is the panel In The Wicked + The Divine where this reference features.
