i tried to SCREAM, but my head was under water. they called me weak, like I’m not just

somebody’s daughter. could’ve been a nightmare, but it felt like they were right there. and it

feels like yesterday was a a year ago, but I don’t wanna let anybody know. ‘cause

         “yes, they’re very common here, in these woods.” Melanie lifted her head, her feet stopping so she could look up at the branch in the moonlight, where a spotted owl was perched, watching them. they were just a few yards from the courtyard at Summerland, in the grass just beyond where the pavement ended. “beautiful creatures. harmless to humans,” her smile warmed, eyes glistening a moment before she looked at him again. “just like you, and other mutants.”

“What are you doing out this late?”

“This part of town isn’t a good place to be at this time of night.”

“Now what’s a pretty thing like you doing in a place like this?” 

“You do realize what time it is, right?”

“A bold move to show your face here in the shadows of night.”

“It isn’t safe here at this time of night.” 

“You’re being watched.” 

“What are you doing still up?” 

“Looking for something?” 

“I like walking when the streets are empty.”

“It’s dangerous to walk at night alone.” 

“I know where I’m going.” 

“The trees are kind of spooky…”

“Did you hear that howl?” 

“Was…was that an owl…?” 

“This path is scary at night…” 

“The woods is no place a __ after dusk.” 

“Oh you poor soul, wandering lost in the forest under the new moon…” 

“You can’t see the stars from here…” 

“This is the witching hour.” 

“Dark beasts lurk here. Be cautious.” 

“Stay on the road!” 

“Talking a midnight stroll along the beach?” 

“The ocean is so mysterious at night…” 

“What brings you to the pier at this hour?” 

“What dangers lurk in these dark waters, I wonder.”

☣🛏 hey what's up you wanna go on another nightmare with david haller or what

nightmare visitation with @telegion. Melanie’s nightmare.

empty laughter of children echoes down the halls of Summerland’s main building.

it was dark, and as Melanie got her bearings, she turns to look at David for a moment. age melted away, she was just as she was the day everything had happened. a stranger to him, and he to her. but she recognizes him nonetheless, and without a word, leads him down the halls as the lights flicker.

very little was different from the way SUMMERLAND was now. furniture, art. the abstract colors of her dream world. of her memories. as she steps delicately, she does so so that she’s just a pace or two ahead of him, shielding him despite knowing he cannot be hurt. instinct. this day plays out so vividly.

the day Walter came back home.

there’s a cry from the lower level and Melanie stifles a whimper, grabbing David’s hand, and pausing as they stood before and open doorway. “I sat here. For a moment, because I heard..” as she explains, the hushed voices of Oliver and Cary, stashing away as many of their charges into hiding places that were built into that particular room.

her head turns as she looks towards the stairs at the end of the hall. “and then I heard them coming, and I knew they needed time. and I could’t let them…” the scared whining of a child in the other room, she squeezes her eyes a moment. “they’re mine, David, all of them. I love them all as my own. I have to keep them safe.”

reaching into the back of her jeans, she produces a handgun and pulls the telepath behind a sculpture, about twice as big as it was in real life. and she fires three shots off towards the hallway to throw the agents approaching for a loop.

Oliver’s voice from the doorway, hushed, concerned. “Melanie!”

she responds as if he’s really there. “they aren’t here for ME, I have to get the others. Hide.” the door closes and she grabs David’s hand again, tugging him in the opposite direction of returned gunfire. “we have to go downstairs now. there’s a secret way, come on!”

Oh, this guy’s smooth and he knows it. That should be a bad combination, but Melanie can’t help but smile at him, especially seeing the quirk of his own lips. “Hello, Oliver.” Her voice chimes lightly, and she debates immediately telling him her name, but she decides to wait. Instead, she gifts him with this.

“This bridge will only take you halfway there To those mysterious lands you long to see: Through gypsy camps and swirling Arab fairs And moonlit woods where unicorns run free. So come and walk awhile with me and share The twisting trails and wondrous worlds I've known. But this bridge will only take you halfway there- The last few steps you'll have to take alone.”

There’s a small smile that comes across his lips at the other’s response. “Mm, what a shame,” he replies. “The name is Oliver,” he introduced, “it’s a pleasure to meet you. I was hoping to form a Barbershop Quartet— but perhaps we could work as a duo, or maybe… something else. What are your thoughts on poetry?”

Ah I guess I’ll address this now rather than later.

I chose my younger Melanie FC before seeing the one they cast for season 2 later on in the season. I’ve grown rather attached to using her so despite there being another in canon, I’ll continue to use Sarah and all canon events will be canon to this blog regardless of FC.

I hope you guys will all understand and love her nonetheless!

Oh man. Guys I start a new semester on Monday and I’m supposed to be getting a weekend job.

I have ever intention of being here between classes and such, hopefully this semester won’t just be me being the way I got last semester. (That was a dark ass time for me.)

But just in case, your friend Katie loves you all, will be here when she can, and probably will never be better about actually writing. But she does try. If you’re really keen your best bet is to add me on Disco and we can RP there without the fuss if you’re down. <3
