I haven't felt like writing or drawing in a while. I think being unemployed and the current social and political climate here in the US have sapped my inspiration and passion. Instead, I've been crocheting, partly to learn new patterns and stitches, and partly to help my daughter prepare some handmade items - headbands, purses, and such - to sell at the Route 66 festival in Kingman, AZ, in October.

Since it'll be close to Halloween, I decided to learn this cute little skull designed by @ComplicatedKnots. He's a hacky sack stuffed with popcorn kernels. I made him out of Caron Simply Soft acrylic yarn, medium weight (size 4) yarn in black and white and a size E (3.5mm) hook. I think the designer's original intent was to make decorations or keychains with him, but the first thing my daughter thought when she saw him was "HACKY SACK!" This guy is about 3" front to back and 2" side-to-side. I might try making him smaller with thread instead of yarn and make some keychains, too. Maybe even a little necklace of "the skulls of your enemies" - haha!

All the granny squares will eventually be stitched into either headbands or bags. The squares are 2", 2.5", and 3" (the blue & yellow sun is the only 3"). They were all made using a cotton thread of unknown size (definitely smaller than size 3!) I bought on Amazon, and a 0.8mm hook, except for the big spiral sun in yellow and blue. I used the same thread, but the hook was 1mm.

Only took about 2 1/2 hours. Pretty ridiculous that it takes me 10 or more hours to do a person and they still come out less than satisfactory.

Started him in February of LAST YEAR, lost interest, and picked at it slowly over a total of 21 hours. I'm finally calling him done. The fucking background was the worst part. I didn't bother finishing the stones. It's enough.

A couple of pictures of horses I drew in grade school. I thought I was good at drawing horses until a Vietnamese boy joined our class. Lololol

I used to do this thing where I'd draw a few random lines on a page and then try to make a picture out of it. Some were just plain ridiculous, and some came out pretty cool.

I think I want to reproduce "Caught in the Storm" with watercolor or something.

1982-ish? I was 12 or 13. Idk what happened to this, but it was my attempt at drawing or yard. There's a cable spool in the lower left corner, blocking part of the bike. No idea why it was there, but it made an OK table. Lol

2025-02-25 Luminous Beauty

I probably shouldn't show the reference picture (guess which one's the reference - haha!), because I failed to communicate her slender, delicate softness and expression of longing, and I couldn't get the slightly upward angle right, but overall, I think I didn't do a TERRIBLE job of recreating the picture. Probably best that it's not too exact a copy, anyway.
